PRESENTATION IDEAS

The art of digital storytelling: Engage and thrill on screen.

Genially in a nutshell

How do I make a presentation interactive and how does Genially work? Find the answers to all of your slide-related questions here!

What’s an interactive presentation?

Interactive slides contain clickable hotspots, links, buttons, and animations that are activated at the touch of a button. Instead of reading or watching passively, your audience can actively interact with the content.

Genially’s interaction presentation software allows you to combine text, photos, video clips, audio and other content in one deck. It’s a great way to condense more information into fewer slides.

If you’re a teacher, you can share multiple materials in one single learning resource. Students can create their own projects using digital media and online maps. For business or training, try embedding spreadsheet data, PDFs, and online content directly in your slides.

An interactive slide deck is more user-friendly than a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or Google Slides document. That’s because you can break information down into chunks with pop-ups, labels, voiceovers and annotated infographics.

The other benefit of interactive content is increased engagement. It’s easier to keep your audience’s attention when they’re actively participating. Try Genially’s presentation software and free slideshow maker to see how it’s better than other presentation websites. You won’t go back to standard presentation apps!

How do you make a clickable slide?

The best way to make slides clickable is to use Genially’s free interactive presentation program. Design your slide then apply an interaction. In a couple of clicks, you can add popup windows, hyperlinks, close-up images, games, animations, multimedia and other content.

Choose from the library of hotspot buttons and icons to show people what to click on. Go to Presenter View to get a preview and see how your content will appear to your audience.

How do I create presentations that look professional?

You’ve got a deadline looming and you’re staring at the screen with a blank presentation. We’ve all been there! Starting a presentation design from scratch is tricky, especially if you’re short on time.

Genially’s free online presentation maker has over 2000 ready-to-use templates for professional slide presentations, photos slideshows, and more. Each slide design has been created by our team of top graphic designers. No need to worry about fonts, centering images, or designing a matching color scheme. It’s all done for you.

Start by browsing our layouts and themes for education, business and then customize with your own text and images.

How do I share or download my slides?

Because Genially is a cloud based presentation software, you can simply share the link to your slides. Like other online presentation tools, there are no files to download or store on your computer. Everything is saved online.

When you publish your slide deck, it gets its own unique url, just like a website. Share the link with others to let them explore the content in their own time. If you’re presenting live, just click the Present button.

You can also embed your presentation on your website, company wiki, or social media. Genially is compatible with WordPress, Moodle, Google Classroom, and other platforms. If you use an LMS, you can also download your interactive design slides in SCORM format.

For slideshow videos and slideshows with music, share online or download as an MP4 video. Check out our free slideshow templates for ideas.

Can I make a free presentation in Genially?

You bet! Genially is an easy-to-use slide maker, with a free version and paid plans. The free plan allows you to create unlimited slides with interactions and animations. Subscribe to one of our paid plans for more advanced features.

How to Create a Presentation with PowerPoint Online

An online version of PowerPoint was introduced in 2010, a few years after the Google Docs release, which came out as early as 2007. Over the years, the product, along with other Microsoft Office apps, underwent major changes, making it more user-friendly and feature-rich for end users.

Given the rise of inter-device connectivity and cloud support, tools like Microsoft 365, particularly its Word, Excel, and PowerPoint web-based counterparts, have considerably increased their capabilities, matching the performance of desktop versions. In this article, we will talk about PowerPoint Online, also called PowerPoint for Web, and how it can help presenters craft presentations and access them on the go wherever they log in.

PowerPoint for the Web, which was previously called PowerPoint Online, is a web-based version of PowerPoint that enables creating, viewing, editing, and sharing PowerPoint presentations online. Unlike Google Slides, PowerPoint for the Web provides better native support for PowerPoint files. It makes it possible to seamlessly work with PowerPoint files and features through a web-based browser, with OneDrive support to share and store your data. PowerPoint for the web is free to use but has limited features. However, if you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you can get better features when using the web-based version of PowerPoint.

PowerPoint for the web provides the same benefits as the desktop version of PowerPoint, with the added advantage of accessing these features anywhere using an Internet browser. Below is a list of advantages of using PowerPoint Online.

Easy Accessibility

You can access PowerPoint features anywhere using an Internet-connected browser without installing the PowerPoint app on your device. Furthermore, you can also upload and access files from your device anytime, anywhere, via the web.

Support for Native PowerPoint Features

Be it online collaboration, cloud storage, or access to version history, you can get native PowerPoint features via a web-based version of PowerPoint without the need to worry about compatibility issues. Furthermore, unlike Google Slides or other web-based variants of PowerPoint, PowerPoint for the web helps access native PowerPoint features without causing compatibility issues such as incorrect display of certain themes or support for various animations available in the offline version.

OneDrive Integration

The integration of PowerPoint for the web with OneDrive allows instantly storing, sharing, and accessing different versions of a file using the cloud storage support of OneDrive.

Easy Sharing

The OneDrive integration enables the online version of PowerPoint to be used for instantly sharing presentations online using a link with a specific access level (view only or editing privileges).

Online Collaboration

While PowerPoint’s offline version also provides collaboration features, using PowerPoint for the web can provide a smoother experience when looking for real-time changes to a PowerPoint file.

Version History

PowerPoint files saved with the web version come with a version history, where you can access older file versions to restore according to need. This feature is also available for the offline version, which you must turn on upload to OneDrive. In other words, version history is only supported for PowerPoint files that are saved online.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

Since you only need a web browser and a Microsoft account to access PowerPoint Online, there are no issues with having a compatible device to use the app. This means you can access PowerPoint Online using any device that can run a modern Internet browser.

You can consider the tips below to create visually appealing slides with PowerPoint Online.

Focus on Design Consistency

Use a consistent design with a color scheme, fonts, alignment, and graphics tailored to a specific format. Don’t use too many changes that might make the content appear muddled.

Avoid Heavy Multimedia

Since PowerPoint for the Web is an online platform, not everyone might have the required Internet bandwidth or hardware to run heavy presentations smoothly. Using multimedia content in moderation can help avoid such issues.

Uncluttered Slides

Cluttered slides on an online interface will likely cause compatibility issues for some viewers or the slides might not appear properly on some browsers and devices. To avoid this, try to create uncluttered slides. Using minimalist slides might just be the best way to go.

Even the Distribution of Slide Elements

By evenly distributing slide elements with proper alignment, you should be able to create online slides that are easy for the eyes to follow.

Choose Imagery Carefully

When selecting icons, graphical elements, and pictures, try not to use imagery that is too flashy and might cause issues when opened across different browsers and devices. You can use icons from the built-in icons library in PowerPoint and select pictures that don’t visually overpower the viewer.

Get Design Ideas

You can get design ideas using PowerPoint Designer to adjust your design for visual appeal and design consistency.

Productivity Shortcuts

PowerPoint for the web primarily provides most of the features in the desktop app. Below are some tips and tricks for productivity when using the web version of PowerPoint. For some shortcuts listed below, PC users must use CTRL, whereas Mac users will use Command.

  • Insert New Slide using CTRL+M hotkey (Command+M for Mac)
  • Use F5 to start the slideshow and Esc to end the slideshow
  • CTRL+D duplicates the slide (Command+D for Mac)
  • CTRL+Shift+D deletes the slide (Command+Shift+D for Mac)
  • Use CTRL+S to save slide (Command+S for Mac)
  • Use CTRL+W to close the presentation (Command+W for Mac)
  • To open printing options, use CTRL+P (Command+P for Mac)
  • Zoom in with CTRL+Plus button (Command+Plus button for Mac)
  • Zoom out with CTRL+Minus button (Command+Minus button for Mac)
  • Insert a table with CTRL+T (Command+T for Mac)
  • Insert a hyperlink with CTRL+K (Command+K for Mac)
  • Align text with CTRL+L for left, CTRL+E for center, and CTRL+R for right (Replace CTRL with Command for Mac)

Screen Freezes When Working with PowerPoint for the Web

If your screen freezes while you’re working, the web version of PowerPoint is likely encountering an issue when saving the file, showing elements, or inserting content. You can wait a while, and the issue should be resolved. Also, check your Internet connection to see that you are connected. You might want to close additional tabs and review your system usage to see if your hardware is overwhelmed due to resource-intensive apps or multiple browser tabs.

Slide Elements Don’t Appear Properly

If your browser isn’t compatible or uses a browser plugin that blocks slide elements, you might encounter issues viewing slides. Use a compatible browser and turn off any plugins that might interfere with PowerPoint’s online interface.

File Upload or Download Issues

When you are unable to upload or download files, it is likely that your Internet connection is unstable or disconnected. Check your connection to resolve the issue.

Unable to Login

This is likely caused by incorrect credentials or a recent change in credentials, such as a password. If you cannot log in despite no apparent issues, try to clear your browser’s cache or switch to another browser to see if you can log in.

PowerPoint for the web provides most features available for the desktop version and some sharing and collaboration features that require uploading the file online for use. You will notice that some of these features are smoother when used with the online version compared to the desktop version. Furthermore, the online version of PowerPoint provides access regardless of whether you have PowerPoint installed on your device. If you are someone who does not have a Microsoft 365 subscription and needs to access a PowerPoint file, you can log in for free with a Microsoft account with limited features. Alternatively, if the online version is not an option for you, you can still learn how to create a PowerPoint presentation in the installed version of Office.

That means having a lot of images and icons at your disposal!

how to create a presentation online

How does it work?

Think of your topic.

First things first, you’ll be talking about something in particular, right? A business meeting, a new medical breakthrough, the weather, your favorite songs, a basketball game, a pink elephant you saw last Sunday—you name it. Just type it out and let the AI know what the topic is.

Choose your preferred style and tone

They say that variety is the spice of life. That’s why we let you choose between different design styles, including doodle, simple, abstract, geometric, and elegant . What about the tone? Several of them: fun, creative, casual, professional, and formal. Each one will give you something unique, so which way of impressing your audience will it be this time? Mix and match!

What is an AI-generated presentation?

It’s exactly “what it says on the cover”. AIs, or artificial intelligences, are in constant evolution, and they are now able to generate presentations in a short time, based on inputs from the user. This technology allows you to get a satisfactory presentation much faster by doing a big chunk of the work.

Can I customize the presentation generated by the AI?

Of course! That’s the point! Slidesgo is all for customization since day one, so you’ll be able to make any changes to presentations generated by the AI. We humans are irreplaceable, after all! Colors, text, images, icons, placement, the final decision concerning all of the elements is up to you.

Can I add my own images?

Absolutely. That’s a basic function, and we made sure to have it available. Would it make sense to have a portfolio template generated by an AI without a single picture of your own work? In any case, we also offer the possibility of asking the AI to generate images for you via prompts. Additionally, you can also check out the integrated gallery of images from Freepik and use them. If making an impression is your goal, you’ll have an easy time!

Is this new functionality free? As in “free of charge”? Do you mean it?

Yes, it is, and we mean it. We even asked our buddies at Wepik, who are the ones hosting this AI presentation maker, and they told us “yup, it’s on the house”.

Are there more presentation designs available?

From time to time, we’ll be adding more designs. The cool thing is that you’ll have at your disposal a lot of content from Freepik and Flaticon when using the AI presentation maker. Oh, and just as a reminder, if you feel like you want to do things yourself and don’t want to rely on an AI, you’re on Slidesgo, the leading website when it comes to presentation templates. The easiest way is to click on “Download” to get your presentation in .pdf format. But there are other options! You can click on “Present” to enter the presenter view and start presenting right away! What Makes a PowerPoint Presentation Effective?

Knowing how to use PowerPoint and work within it quickly is helpful. But more important is making a good presentation that hits all your goals. A great PowerPoint presentation is:

  • Prepared to Win . Research, plan, and prepare your presentation professionally. It helps you deliver an effective message to your target audience.
  • Designed Correctly . Your visual points should stand out without overwhelming your audience. A good PowerPoint visual shouldn’t complicate your message.
  • Practiced to Perfection . Rehearse your timing and delivery so that your points land as practiced with a live audience.
  • Delivered With Poise . Present with a relaxed inner calm and confident outward projection. Give your audience warmth, excitement, and energy.
  • Free From Mistakes . Avoid typos, cheesy clip art, and mistakes like reading directly from your slides.

Consider this your all-inclusive guide to how to make a good presentation. We’ll look at preparing your presentation and explore how to design it in PowerPoint. Plus, we’ll cover how to practice and nail your delivery successfully come presentation time.

We’ll also address what not to do in these tips for PowerPoint presentations—so you can sidestep any big mistakes. Now let’s dig into these tips for effective PowerPoint presentations.

Killer Presentation Preparation Tips to Get Started Right

Before even opening PowerPoint, start by addressing these things. These Microsoft PowerPoint tips and tricks will ensure that you’re prepared for your presentation:

1. Know Your Stuff

Your presentation isn’t about your slides alone. It’s about the message you want to get across. Before filling in stats, facts and figures, think about the narrative that’ll be discussed, why, and in what order.

2. Write It Out

Start in a Word or Google doc, and storyboard or script the entire presentation. This will give you an idea of how the information presented will flow and how viewers will see it in sequence. Learn the complete writing process .

3. Highlight What’s Most Important

A presentation covers the most crucial pieces only. Whatever you’ve been working on that led to this—a paper, a work project, a new product design—doesn’t need to be shared in its entirety. Pick key points and put the rest in an “Appendix” to refer to during the Q&A session at the end.

4. Know Your Audience

How you talk to a room full of medical professionals should be different from the way you address a room full of young entrepreneurs. Everything, in fact, is different: your topic selection, the language you use, the examples you give to illustrate points. The little bits of humor you include should be tailored specifically with your target audience in mind.

Understand your audience’s needs to create a successful PowerPoint presentation. Customize your content to meet their specific requirements.

5. Rehearse! (Yes, Already)

It’s never too early to get used to the rhythm of your presentation and take note of points you want to emphasize. While saying it out loud, you’ll start to develop a “feel” for the material. You’ll notice that some things work well, while others don’t and might need to be worked around.

6. Rewrite After You Rehearse

As you’re rehearsing your presentation, you’re bound to stumble over sections that don’t quite flow naturally. Instead of reworking your delivery, it might be time to consider the content and rewrite the areas that served as stumbling blocks.

“Editing is hard. ‘It’s good enough,’ is a phrase wannabes use. Leaders take editing seriously.” – Anthony Trendl

The most important part of creating a great presentation is the writing stage. The second most important stage is rewriting.

7. Share With a Friend

If the stakes are high for your presentation, it’s never too early to get feedback from those that you trust. Here’s an article that helps you collaborate as a team on a PowerPoint presentation. Get PowerPoint design tips from those that you trust when you collaborate.

Simple Tips to Design Your PowerPoint Presentation Better

Second only to you (the information you bring and how you present it) is your PowerPoint slides. If not designed well, a PowerPoint can be disengaging or distracting (regardless of the content quality). Here are some presentation design tips to make sure this doesn’t happen to you:

8. Keep Your Slides Simple

This is one of the most important PowerPoint presentation tips to follow when designing your slides. Keep in mind that less is more (effective.) A cluttered slide is distracting. It causes confusion for an audience: Which part of the slide should I focus on? Should I read the slide or pay attention to the presenter?

A simple, visually appealing slide will engage your audience, keeping them on track with your main points. Here’s an example of a simple slide that serves its purpose perfectly:

Nook - Minimal Powerpoint Template

Minimalist slide templates like Nook can help you resist the urge to clutter your slides.

9. Limit Words on Your Slides

Piggybacking on the last point, less is more effective. If possible, avoid bullets altogether. Otherwise cut them to just a few simple words. The audience should be listening, not reading.

10. Use High-Quality Photos and Graphics

One of the most important tips for quality PowerPoint presentations is to use high-quality photos and graphics.

Earlier in this tutorial, you saw Envato Elements, an all-you-can-download service with PPT tips inside of templates. Those pre-built designs are a beginner’s best friend. They’re even better when paired with Elements’ unlimited library of stock photos .

People are more likely to take you seriously if your presentation is visually appealing. Users view attractive design as more usable. Similarly, they’ll view a more attractive PowerPoint as more effective.

11. Use Accurate and Relevant Charts and Graphs

Charts and graphs can also be distracting if they’re not used right. Make sure your information design is simple and clean so that the audience doesn’t spend the entire time trying to decipher what your X axis says. Learn more about PPT data presentation .

12. Use High-Quality, Fresh Templates

Have you seen the old PowerPoint template that looks like worn paper and uses ink splashes? Yeah, so has your audience. Templates can be distracting if they’re too basic or if the design feels dated. You need one with great design options.

Costs are always a concern. But when you use Envato Elements, you’ve got everything you need to create a great PowerPoint presentation . That’s thanks to the incredible all-you-can-download subscription package.

The best PowerPoint tips and tricks can hardly compare to the value of using a template while building your presentation.

On Envato Elements, there are thousands of PowerPoint design templates that are ready to use. Instead of designing a presentation from scratch, start with a template! Just add your specifics to the placeholders.

Galaxi Powerpoint Template

Templates like Galaxi are impressively designed and waiting for your slide specifics.

The best PowerPoint design tips save you time. And there’s no tip more powerful than this one: use a pre-built template . It helps you master how to present a PowerPoint without spending all your time in the app.

13. Choose Appropriate Fonts

Fonts are an important part of engaging your audience. Fonts and typography choices have a subconscious effect on viewers. They can characterize your company’s presentation and brand either positively or negatively. Make sure that you’re choosing fonts that are professional and modern.

14. Choose Color Well

Like font choice, colors cause specific subconscious reactions from viewers. Choosing an outdated color combination for your presentation will render it ineffective.

Below is an example of the Popsicle PowerPoint template , which has a modern presentation color choice:

Popsicle - Colorful Powerpoint Template

The Popsicle PowerPoint template highlights how harmonized color palettes can create beautiful slides.

15. Clean + Simple Formatting Makes All the Difference!

We’ve got a full tutorial on how to make a good presentation slide . Give it a read through and review the accompanying video. Just remember, less is more. The focus is you and your message , not your slides.

16. Make Sure All Objects Are Aligned

A simple way to create a well-designed presentation is to make sure all items on a slide are intentionally aligned. To do this, hold down Shift and select all the objects you want to include. Then choose Arrange in the options bar and apply Alignment Type .

17. Limit Punctuation

This isn’t the place for exclamation points. Emphasize your points (while speaking). Don’t enlist punctuation to do this for you. (Leave these at home!!!)

18. Avoid Over-Formatting Your Points

This PowerPoint presentation tip is simple. There’s no need to have every word of every bullet point capitalized, or to have all your bullet points in title case. If possible, drop bullets altogether. Again, the simpler, the better!

Limit your text formatting, including reducing the use of bullets, underline, and other effects. Compare the before example on the left to the revised version on the right.

over-formatted vs simple text

19. Combine Information With Graphics in PowerPoint

One of the most powerful presentation skills for PPT is using infographics. With the right type of visuals, slides come to life and reduce the text in favor of graphics.

Infographics help combine information with graphics. It’s easier to explain complex ideas when you use visual formats that are intuitive.

Practice Presentation Tips: Rehearse, Rehearse, Rehearse!

Delivery is probably more important than the actual content. Here’s how to become more aware of your own unique ticks, and how to present like a polished pro:

20. I’ll Say It Again, Rehearse!

Just do it. Again and again. Experiment with pauses, gestures, and body language. Practice around one hour for every minute of your speech.

21. Practice With a Timer

Consistency is key to an effective PowerPoint presentation. The timing should be similar (ideally the same) each time you rehearse. This one will especially pay off when it’s time to present in front of your audience.

22. Slow It Down

Many of the best speakers today intentionally speak slowly. You’ll have the chance to emphasize, appear more thoughtful, and make your information easier to digest.

23. Pause More Often

Like the prior tip, pausing more often allows your main points to be emphasized and gives time for information to sink in. You need to let key points breathe a little before rushing into the next section.

24. Record Yourself

Use your phone’s voice recorder. Assess and critique yourself. Consider:

  • Are your pauses too short or too long?
  • Are you speaking slowly enough? Too slow?
  • When you’re nervous, does your voice get high like the mice in Cinderella?

record yourself presenting

It’s always weird to hear your own voice recorded; don’t stress it. Use this as a time to adjust.

25. Choose Three Focal Points in the Room

If you stare at the same spot (or even creepier, the same person) the entire time, your presentation will be ineffective (and awkward.) People will be distracted by you, wondering what you’re staring at.

Try this: pick three points in the room (typically: left, center, right). Take time to direct your delivery toward each physical focal point in the room. Also, focus on the center when making your primary points.

26. Vary Your Sentence Length

This makes you sound more interesting, and it’s easier for your audience to follow. Think short and punchy. Or go long and complex for dramatic effect.

27. Modulate!

Don’t speak in monotone for your whole presentation. Be conscious of raising and lowering your voice tone. Otherwise, people will tune you out, and you’ll come across like the teacher in Charlie Brown.

28. Practice in Front of a Mirror

What you look like is as important as how you sound. Pretend you’re having a normal conversation, and allow your hands to move with your speech to emphasize your points. Just don’t get carried away! (I’m thinking Brene Brown or President Obama , not your Aunt Jamie after a few gin and tonics.)

29. Use “Present Mode” When Rehearsing

When you finally are ready to hit the Present button in PowerPoint, make sure you use the Present Mode option. This allows you (and only you) to view extra notes about each slide—just in case you forget something!

30. Practice With New Audiences

If possible, try doing a few real live test runs as a webinar or even at a local Toastmasters organization to get some feedback from a live audience.

31. Engage the Audience by Asking Questions

There’s no reason that a presentation should be one-sided. Why not invert the format and ask your audience a question?

To learn how to create a slide that kicks off a Q&A, use this article . These PowerPoint design tips help you create an engaging and exciting discussion.

Helpful Tips to Step Up and Deliver Come Presentation Time

When the actual day arrives, there are only a few last PowerPoint presentation tips and guidelines to keep in mind:

32. Take a Deep Breath

Deep breathing is proven to relieve stress. It’s simple, and it’ll help you remain calm and in the moment, even up to the last minute before starting.

33. Lighten Up Your Mood

Tell yourself a joke or watch a funny video clip. Do this before the presentation, of course. Research concludes that happy people are more productive. More productive is more focused and able to perform better.

34. Remind Yourself to Take It Slow

When we’re stressed or nervous (or both), we tend to speak faster. Consciously, take yet another deep breath and remind yourself to take it slow!

35. Read the Room

Every presentation room has a temperature. It’s your job as a speaker to gauge it and tailor your presentation to it.

Here’s a great example. Layoffs are coming at a company, and you’re asked to speak to an audience. Even if the audience isn’t personally affected by the actions, you’ve got to consider the morale of the workforce.

read the room

Skilled speakers have a knack for reading the energy of the room and adjusting their presentation on the fly.

The last thing that group will want to hear is how strong the economy is and why the company is the best place to work. That doesn’t mean that you’ve got to align to their uncertainty, but don’t go too far against the grain while presenting.

Robert Kennedy III is a master of bringing energy and aligning a speech to the audience. Here’s his advice for adjusting:

“It can be hard to wake up a “dead” crowd but go for it. Most of all, don’t take their energy personally. Focus on serving them with every bit of your fiber then leave empty.”

36. Fake It ‘Til You Make It!

Go forward with confidence. If you act confident, you’ll start to feel more confident. Move slowly with grace, speak clearly, smile, wear something nice. You’ll appear confident to all attendees (no matter how you feel internally).

PowerPoint Presentation Tips and Tricks to Help Avoid Mistakes (What Not to Do)

Most importantly, focus on what you can do to make your presentation better. There are a few important things not to do that we’ve got to address. Here are a handful of PowerPoint presentation tips and tricks to help you avoid missteps.

37. Stop With the Sound Effects

Sound effects are distracting and outdated. In most cases, avoid them. Add audio or music to your presentation to inject interest or highlight an important point, but it’s something to take extra care with. If you insert audio, then make sure your use really connects with your audience and has a fresh approach. Otherwise, it’s best to leave it out.

38. Don’t Use Flashy Slide Transitions

Again, this is distracting and outdated. Use transitions and subtle animations in your PowerPoint presentation. But you need to take care and do it right .

39. Beware of Clip Art

This PowerPoint presentation tip shouldn’t even have to be said. But please, please don’t use clip art. Use professional graphics instead.

40. Don’t Be Afraid to Be Afraid

The fear of public speaking is a real one. Many beginners think that if they’re feeling nervous that a presentation won’t go well or succeed. That might lead them to cancel the presentation.

Here’s a tip from expert Sandra Zimmer, who leads The Self-Expression Center on conquering your fears before you take the stage:

“Get out of your head and into your body. I do this through a grounding exercise that really works to calm nerves and bring you present in the moment.”

If you think that public speaking fears aren’t normal, you might never give your award-winning presentation. So don’t be afraid to be afraid, and acknowledge it’s part of the process!

41. Don’t Read Directly During Your PowerPoint Presentation

If you spend your entire presentation looking at the screen or your note cards, you’re sure to lose your audience’s attention. They’ll disengage from what you’re saying, and your presentation will fall flat.

Reading from your paper or screen also makes it look like you’re not prepared. Many people do it, but no one should. As a general rule, only present something you know well and have, at least mostly, memorized the main points of.

42. Don’t Miss Out on PowerPoint Customizations

Many new PowerPoint users often make significant mistakes when using Envato Elements designs.

The best way to see how to make a good presentation PPT is to start with designs from others. That means using a template, but that doesn’t mean you can’t customize them!

Don’t forget that PowerPoint templates are infinitely customizable. Think of them as guides with built-in presentation design tips.

Work in PowerPoint More Effectively (Tips & Tricks to Level Up Your PPT Skills)

These PowerPoint tips will help you get the most out of the application to level up your next presentation. Let’s dive in.

43. Use the Visual Guides

When you’re designing your next PowerPoint presentation, it helps to create a sense of visual rhythm. Slides that have objects aligned and centered are more likely to resonate with an audience.

44. Use a Few Animations (Tastefully)

Animations in effective PowerPoint presentations are a slippery slope. We’ve all sat through presentations where there were so many objects in motion that it was easy to lose focus on the key ideas in the presentation.

But that’s why animations get an unfairly bad reputation. Use animations to create motion and hold an audience’s attention. Use them sparingly and on key elements on your slide, and you’ll capture that attention properly.

45. Stage Key Content With Animations

You just learned that animations should avoid being distracting. But there’s an important principle to using animations properly. It’s called staging content.

Staging content means that the content appears step by step. There’s nothing worse than overwhelming an audience with all your content at once. But when you stage content, bring it on step by step.

Take it from presentation pro Suzannah Baum :

“If you’re sharing a slide with lots of different points on it, using the animation to reveal those points one at a time is a way to keep the presenter’s content flowing smoothly.”

For more animation presentation tips and tricks, follow our guide .

46. Add a Video to Your PowerPoint

When you’re sharing a big idea in your presentation, it helps to share your perspective from a few different angles. Adding a video to supplement your content can do just that. Luckily, it’s easy to add and embed a YouTube video in your next PowerPoint presentation.

47. Add Charts & Graphs

Charts and graphs can help you tell stories with data. It’s easy for an audience to zone out when you throw a big data table or set of statistics at them.

instead, convert those to charts and graphs. Try out our tutorial to learn how to edit those graphs.

48. Build Your Own Infographics With SmartArt

Earlier in this tutorial, we gave you one of my favorite PowerPoint design tips: use infographic templates.

Here’s another. One of my favorite PowerPoint features is SmartArt, which allows you to build infographics right inside the app.

You don’t have to use another graphic design app like Photoshop or Illustrator to add visuals. Instead, try out SmartArt to help you build graphics that are easy to update.

49. Use Presenter View

Remember that when you use the PowerPoint, you’ re the presentation. The slides are just there to reinforce what you’ve got to say and support your speaking points.

That’s why I always recommend using Presenter view. More often than not, you’re going to have several displays. Presenter view shows your content on your screen, while your presentation is displayed on another screen.

50. Track Your PowerPoint Changes

One of my favorite PowerPoint design tips is to collaborate. Those who know you best will suggest compelling changes that are sure to help you succeed.

As you start collaborating on your presentation, it helps to keep track of proposed and included PowerPoint changes. Use this article to track changes made by others.

  • Use clear, concise visuals.
  • Incorporate multimedia elements.
  • Engage with interactive tools.

  • Encourage questions.
  • Use live polls.
  • Address audience feedback directly.

6. Follow up after the webinar

The end of your webinar shouldn’t be the end of your engagement. Follow up with attendees via email with a thank you note, additional resources, or a survey to collect feedback. Here are some different ways you can follow up with your audience:

By following these guidelines, you can create a webinar presentation that not only delivers your message effectively but also keeps your audience engaged and responsive. Welcome To Madden NFL 25

June 14, 2024

Hey Madden Fans!

Welcome back to Gridiron Notes, your home for news and updates for Madden NFL 25. Our team will be here sharing information all summer long as we gear up for worldwide launch on August 16th. You can expect to see future Deep Dives about topics like Gameplay, Franchise and Presentation, Superstar, Ultimate Team, and more.

Today, we are covering the high-level features in Madden NFL 25. Before we get into specifics, our team wanted to share the vision for the game this year.

Bottom line, the goal for Madden NFL 25 is to “look, feel and sound different”. From the first time you fire it up at the “press start” screen, to the menus, to new commentary and inside the game from the NFL Draft all the way to the Super Bowl Trophy Presentation, this was the commitment from the team. We can’t wait to share more with you in future deep dives coming later this summer.

Here at our Tiburon studio, we know what’s most important to players, and that’s a deep, authentic experience delivering control on the sticks. With this year’s feature set, which includes Physics-Based Tackling powered by BOOM Tech, Signature styles, new mechanics with ball carriers, catching and pre-play, and a focus on football fundamentals within blocking, playbooks, and more, players will have more control than ever before in Madden NFL 25.

In Madden NFL 23, the team introduced the FieldSENSE animation-branching system to deliver on control, rather than outcomes that feel more scripted or pre-determined. This year in Madden NFL 25, that vision is being accelerated with the introduction of BOOM Tech, our next gameplay innovation that has been over two years in the making. (PS5®, XBOX Series X|S, and PC only)

The features that make up the BOOM Tech gameplay package are:

Physics-Based Tackling

Feel realistic control with every tackle, so you can cut loose and attack the ball with powerful Hit Sticks, Cut Sticks, trucks, dives, and stiff arms. The new data-driven physics system considers timing, momentum, weight, speed, strength, and player ratings to inform 1-on-1 ball carrier impact and determine the branching animation to a wider variety of explosive and authentic physical outcomes while keeping players in full control. (PS5®, XBOX Series X|S, and PC only)

null

Reloaded Hit Stick

The one. The only. The legendary Hit Stick has been refreshed, reloaded, and reimagined to celebrate 20 years as a Madden NFL feature. Bring power in every phase of the game with a timing-based mechanic that provides harder-hitting control determined by angle of impact, stick-skill, and accuracy for cut sticks, big hits, and trucks, with more realistic physical movements and results. Get immediate on-field feedback with visual indicators, new impactful tackle sound effects, and controller rumble haptics (where applicable). (PS5®, XBOX Series X|S, and PC only)

Ball Carrier Control

Run the rock with confidence and command. A new Ball Carrier Balance and Recovery System determines a specific BOOM Tech branching animation based on the quality of the hit and the ratings of the players involved. Get the control you need to counter the Hit Stick, break the tackle, and recover your balance. (PS5®, XBOX Series X|S, and PC only)

Foundational Football

Core gameplay is back with the newest iteration of FieldSENSE™; get increased control across key areas including innovated passing, catching, blocking, and coverages, along with advanced ball carrier mechanics for more dynamic and realistic playmaking. New playbooks capture the game’s most inventive and explosive plays to align with today’s NFL play styles for a wider variety of viable game plans and more strategy in all three phases. Authentic pre-snap and post-play animations deliver a whole new level of authenticity and immersion, while all-new intelligent ball carrier mechanics provide explosive movement and more control between downs. We can’t wait to dive deep into gameplay next to expand on all the new upgrades.

null

NFL Immersion

Earlier we mentioned the team’s focus on ensuring that Madden NFL 25 looks, feels, and sounds different. The delivery of these features comes down to one huge team focus: Immersion.

Dive deeper than ever into the NFL game day experience with an immersive feature set that brings players closer to NFL action than ever before across game modes; from realistic Franchise changes to two brand new commentary crews, you’ll feel so close to the gridiron you can almost smell the all-new 3D turf. (PS5®, XBOX Series X|S, and PC only)

  • Crossplay in Franchise will launch in Madden NFL 25 after a successful beta via a live service update at holiday last year.

One More Thing: Team Builder

From our Franchise fans, we heard the desire for more customization !

Introducing Team Builder: design your own team using the customization tools available on the Team Builder website*. Upload your own logos and personalize your team uniforms, helmets and field. Once created, import your team into your Franchise and dominate for Super Bowl glory. Share your creations or explore the download center for other teams created by the community. Stay tuned for more information about Team Builder coming later this summer.

*Team Builder content can be used in online Franchise modes. Internet connection & EA account required. Applicable platform account may be required. Age restrictions may apply.

(Updates to Franchise mode described here only available on PS5®, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.)

Presentation Overview

New broadcast teams and commentary add to the most immersive audio experience in years. We’ve added crowd audio sourced from the 2023 NFL season’s Monday Night Football games and NFL films, so it doesn’t just feel like realistic crowd noise–it is real crowd noise. On-field sound effects have been increased and refreshed (pad collisions, grunts, exertions, etc.) to now include over 500 samples.

New pregame montages in Superstar and Ultimate Team™ focus more on your players and their storylines. Reenergized environments and camera angles bring an upgraded perspective from kick off to Super Bowl celebrations. Did we mention a new scorebug at the bottom of the screen?

null

Commentary Teams

Play-by-play never sounded so good. Two new teams join the booth to accompany Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis for the first time in eight years. Mike Tirico and former NFL TE Greg Olsen are paired up, along with Kate Scott and former NFL QB Brock Huard. These new teams are here to refresh your Madden NFL experience and bring it to life with over 42,000 fresh recordings at launch, with multiple in-season updates to keep it fresh. (New commentary on PS5®, XBOX Series X|S, and PC only)

Live Game Modes

Whether you like to team up with friends, go solo, or take on the best competition, there is a Madden NFL mode for you. Last season, the addition of Crossplay made these modes even more accessible. How To Create an Online Course in 10 Steps (Using Automation to Drive Business)

Alexa Drake

Let’s face it, it’s become harder to capture people’s attention online, and most of us are looking for new ways to meaningfully engage our customers.

If you’ve got knowledge or expertise to share with the world,  you can meet this rising demand for valuable content by creating an online course. Well-crafted courses have the power to establish you and your brand as an authority in your industry and also help you drive revenue.

By creating an online course, you can engage knowledge-seeking students all over the world, help them master the fundamentals of a specific topic/niche, and drive repeat business through subscription tiers. Luckily, creating an online course has never been easier with hundreds of tools you can leverage that do a lot of the work for you. Before sharing your knowledge with the world, you’ll need to get a few things in order.

Let’s break down this sometimes daunting course creation process into ten steps you can follow to create online course content that’ll wow potential students who want access to your expertise. Follow along to learn the basics and why automating your course creation production can help you drive revenue and strengthen customer relationships.

And for those just getting started with content creation, we created an entire series with actionable tips and tricks to get you up and running.

Here are the ten steps beginners and experts can follow to create an online course: • Decide what you’ll teach in your course • Identify and get to know your target audience • Conduct extensive research on your course topic • Outline your course • Choose a format • Choose your online course platform • Create your course (writing, filming, editing) • Establish your pricing tiers • Launch! • Follow up and gather feedback

How to create an online course from the ground up

An online course is a structured program of study that can cover a wide range of subjects and is offered by various types of institutions, including universities, colleges, private companies, and independent content creators. Most modern courses incorporate a mix of videos, webinar recordings, PDFs, slideshows, podcasts, and quizzes, all of which can be uploaded directly into a learning management system (LMS) of your choosing.

Consider this: Creating an online course for the sake of it isn’t the answer to driving some quick revenue. To begin the process, you’ll have to decide what experience and skills you have to offer your peers and potential customers. Is it valuable? Will your audience learn something new? These are the important questions to ask yourself before you get started.

Bruno De Figueredo Co-founder and Head of Technology at Level Up Creators shared his advice for those just starting with course creation:

“There’s this misconception that a launch needs to make a big splash with tons of sales right off the bat, which often leads to neglecting long-term funnel strategies. Creators and online educators also tend to overlook lead magnets or other “taster” content that can draw users toward a purchase (including regular newsletters). Lead magnets should be used as a sign of interest from the user, which can then be followed up with a tailored email sequence to nudge them towards conversion and buying the course. When I say sequence, I mean a series of emails that offer value beyond just the lead magnet – not just selling but providing more value, social proof, etc. This approach is also crucial post-purchase to boost customer value.” — Bruno De Figueredo, Level Up Creators ( Check out the Level Up Creator School )

This set of ten steps will help you discover your unique perspective, understand the pain points you’re solving, and help you build a strong personal brand along the way. While it won’t cover every single step you may have to take, it’s a broad view of the major ones you’ll face as you create your own course.

Phase 1: Plan

The first three steps of the course creation process have to do with planning. Let’s take a look.

Decide what you’ll teach in your course

The topic you choose to structure an online course around will depend entirely on the knowledge you already possess and want to share with those willing to listen. Topics can range from Photoshop tips to baking how-tos. The possibilities are endless, but outlining and diving deep into relevant, timely topics will often give you a leg up.

How can you determine if the topic you’d like to create a course for is relevant? Conduct independent research by doing a few searches across social platforms like Reddit, Quora, or popular Facebook groups.

researching interest on twitter

Plus, you can search relevant terms on Twitter and see the current conversations around that topic. Take some time to see if people are searching for specific course topics, and keep that in mind when choosing what you’ll teach.

Choosing the perfect course topic for an online course is crucial for several reasons:

Market demand: Assessing demand ensures a genuine need and interest in the topic you plan to teach, directly impacting the course’s success. By understanding market demand, you can tailor your content to meet the needs and preferences of your target audience , increasing the likelihood of attracting and retaining students. It also helps identify gaps in the market where your course can stand out, leading to better enrollment rates and return on investment.
Expertise and credibility: Having expertise and credibility is key because it means your content will be solid, useful, and trustworthy, which helps attract and keep students. When you really know your stuff, you can share deep insights, practical tips, and solid advice that make the learning experience great. Plus, when people trust you, they’re more likely to sign up for your course and spread the word to others. It also helps you stand out from the crowd and positions you as a go-to expert in your field, opening doors to more opportunities. Competitive differentiation: Standing out from the competition helps catch people’s attention in a crowded market. If your course offers something unique or presents the material in a fresh way, it’s more likely to attract students looking for something different from the usual options. This uniqueness can be your teaching style, special insights, or even just a creative approach to the topic. Differentiating your content makes your course more appealing and helps you build a loyal following, as students will appreciate the distinct value you bring.
Long-term relevance: Choosing a topic that has long-term relevance ensures your content stays valuable and useful over time. If your course tackles evergreen topics or skills that aren’t going out of style anytime soon, you’ll keep attracting students well into the future. This means a steady stream of income and ongoing interest in what you’re teaching. Plus, it saves you from constantly having to update or completely redo your course as trends change.
Student outcomes: Choosing the right topic can majorly boost student success. When the topic matches the needs and expectations of potential students, they’re more likely to finish the course, use what they’ve learned, and hit their goals. This often leads to good reviews and word-of-mouth buzz, helping your course grow even more.

On top of this, creating a course on a topic that aligns with your personal or professional goals can lead to growth in your skills and knowledge. It can also open up opportunities for networking and collaboration within your field.

At the heart of it, people want to learn something from someone with real experience. You’ll know you’ve chosen the right topic if you’ve:

  • Worked in that field for a substantial amount of time
  • Have a high-level and granular view of the entire industry
  • Can predict the pain points of a beginner
  • Are already seen as a thought leader in the space and regularly share your knowledge with a sizable audience
  • And have extensive knowledge of the subject matter and are easily able to communicate this to others

People want real data, real help, real advice. Make sure you have something to say before you jump in.

Identify and get to know your target audience

Before you can create any course material, you need to get to know your target audience. Start by checking out who’s already interested in similar subject matter. Look at forums, social media groups, or even surveys to see what questions people are asking and what they want to learn.

Once you’ve got a sense of what they’re into, dive deeper into their needs and goals. Chat with them directly through comments or emails to understand their challenges and what they hope to achieve by taking your course.

By doing this customer research allows you to:

  • Understand their pain points: The course you create should aim to help solve a problem, provide the target audience with the knowledge they need to solve it on their own, and help them learn something in a consolidated manner (so they can get the information faster than they would by traditional means). To do this, you need to fully understand the potential pain points your learners are facing and how to lay the solution out simply.
  • Have an idea of what potential students want to achieve: Every learner will be different but in this case, when they opt into your course, every learner wants to gain knowledge and solve a specific problem. To discover what people are interested in achieving, go out and speak to them, asking questions that will help you structure your course.
  • Know how to sell to them and others: Every online course has a target audience. The truth is, you need to know how to market to that audience because everyone outside of that group probably won’t be interested. To create the right messaging for your audience, you can outline your “ ideal customer .” Consider their age, background, and why they’re interested in your topic. Use this understanding to shape your course content and how you present it. Being in tune with your audience helps you create a course that really hits the mark and makes students feel like you get them.

Going a step further, you can conduct user research on platforms like Reddit, Quora, and even Google Trends. Reddit and Quora are conversation-based sites where you can easily browse threads that may give you some inspiration for course content. Google Trends is useful for searching for topical keywords around the topic of your choice to understand if interest is on the rise with users all around the world.

Once you know your target audience, creating an online course will be ten times easier.

Conduct extensive research on your course topic

Now that you’ve identified who you’ll be creating this online course content for, you’re ready to begin researching the course topic. As a subject matter expert creating an online course, you probably already have all the course material floating around in your brain, but it’s good to brush up on the latest developments and trends.

If you need a kickstart, reference academic journals, industry reports, and reputable websites to gather solid info and data. Take notes on key findings and jot down any new insights that catch your eye. Remember that your course should offer insights beyond what people can find from a simple Google search. Go deeper and reach out to your network of fellow experts or colleagues. They can provide different perspectives or share their experiences, which can really enrich your course content.

Don’t forget about your own experiences and case studies you’ve worked on. These real-life examples can bring your course to life and show students how the theory applies in the real world. By blending all these sources together, you’ll create a course that’s not only packed with knowledge but also practical and engaging for your students.

Phase 2: Create

The next four steps of the course creation process have to do with creating your course. There’s a lot to cover so let’s get into it.

Outline your course

Writing an online course outline involves several key steps to ensure clarity, coherence, and effectiveness in delivering content to your students. The very first thing you should do once you’ve chosen your topic and done extensive research is outline the learning objectives. These are like value props and explain in simple terms what the student will gain from taking your course. They should be communicated upfront, at the start of the course, and especially in any promotional posts that go out on social platforms.

They usually look like this:

learning objectives

Learning objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). These objectives will guide the structure and content of your course. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have the overarching goals outlined, which will help you complete and structure the rest of your course.

While every online course outline will look a little different, here’s a straightforward approach that will help you begin to create one:

  • Divide into modules or sections: Break down the course content into logical modules or sections. Each module should cover a specific sub-topic or theme related to your overall learning objectives. Think about how the content naturally flows and how students will progress through the material.
  • Outline module content: For each module, outline the key topics, concepts, or skills that will be covered. Start with an introductory section to provide context and outline what students will learn. Then, list the main content sections or lessons within the module.
  • Organize lessons: Within each module, organize the lessons in a sequential order that makes sense for learning progression. Consider how each lesson builds upon previous ones and prepares students for upcoming content. Outline each lesson’s main points, examples, activities, or exercises.
  • Include assessments and activities: Integrate assessments or activities throughout the outline to check student understanding and reinforce learning. This could include quizzes, assignments, discussions, or practical exercises that apply the knowledge learned.
  • Add resources and materials: Identify any additional resources or materials students may need, such as readings, videos, case studies, or external links. Include these in the outline to supplement the main course content and provide further depth.
  • Finalize and structure: Finalize your outline by structuring it into a clear format that students can easily navigate. Use headings, subheadings, and bullet points to make it visually organized and accessible. This structured outline will serve as your roadmap for creating each lesson and assembling your course content.

Here’s a simple example of an online course outline if you’re just getting started. Online courses don’t always have to be super lengthy. You can always break up each course so they’re more bite-sized and easy to manage for the busy professional.

online course outline example

By following these steps, you can create a well-organized and effective online course outline that sets a solid foundation for designing and developing engaging content for your potential customers.

Choosing a course format

As we just mentioned, courses come in different shapes and sizes. Some will be longer and more extensive, while others are shorter and contain insights the student can quickly take action on. The format you choose will determine how you go about marketing it to potential customers, the amount of content you can pack into one lesson, and the prices you can set.

There are a few different types of online courses. These are:

  • Mini-course
  • Multi-day course
  • Masterclass

Each type of course will offer unique learnings and be formatted differently. Whether you teach through video content, online learning modules, lectures, quizzes, or articles, consider your audience and how they like to engage with content online.

“Provide choice. Offer a choice of materials or tools, such as videos, podcasts, interactive simulations, or articles on the same topic. This increases pride in accomplishments and connection to learning.” Roba Hrisseh, PhD — George Mason University

The mini-course

A mini-course is a short, focused course that covers a specific topic or skill. It’s designed to be quick and easy to complete, often taking just a few hours.

Mini-courses are perfect for learners who want to gain new knowledge or skills without committing to a longer, more intensive program. They’re usually very practical and to the point, making them great for busy people. Think of them as bite-sized learning experiences that fit into your schedule easily. Plus, learners may gravitate towards these since they’re usually offered at a low price point or even free.

Tip: A mini-course can be a great teaser for a larger course. Consider giving it away for free as an incentive for the student to continue with the multi-day or masterclass.

The multi-day course

A multi-day course is a longer, more in-depth program that spans several days or a full week. It dives deep into a subject, offering comprehensive coverage and detailed lessons through mediums like pre-recorded videos that break down each course component into modules.

These courses are perfect for learners who want a thorough understanding of a topic and are ready to invest more time. Each day or session builds on the previous one, ensuring a solid grasp of the material. It’s like a marathon of learning, giving you the full picture over an extended period. Usually, these courses are priced anywhere from $250 to $2,000 because they offer much more than a mini-course does.

Tip: While these courses tend to be priced at that range, it’s very common for instructors to offer discounts during holidays or to previous students, sometimes bringing the price down to even as little as $20.

The masterclass

A masterclass is a high-level course taught by an expert in the field, usually taking weeks or months to complete. It’s designed to provide in-depth insights and advanced techniques, often featuring tips and tricks from the pro’s personal experience.

These courses are ideal for learners who already have some knowledge of the subject and want to take their skills to the next level. Masterclasses are usually packed with rich content and practical advice you won’t find in basic courses. Because they’re usually taught by experts, they’re aimed at professionals and are typically priced from $300 to $5,000. Think of it as getting a front-row seat to learn from the best in the business.

Tip: If this is your first time creating an online course, we advise you not to start with a masterclass. Instead, opt for a mini-course or multi-day course.

When it comes to how you format all of this, there are endless ways to present the information you have to share. There are the most prominent mediums:

  • Screen recordings and walkthroughs: These are best when you need to go step-by-step on a particular process.
  • Video content: Video is the most accessible medium for presenting your course. You can easily explain ideas more quickly than you could with a text-based course. Plus, interactive elements like this are usually more engaging.
  • Text materials: Don’t disregard text, though! This is best for outlining detailed explanations of the more granular ideas and insights. You can also link to other resources on other sites.
  • Quizzes and assessments: Once you teach your students something, you can administer quizzes and assessments to review how well they retain the information. Some courses won’t need this, but it’ll depend on how you present your course to the world and whether it’s structured as a formal educational class.
  • Downloadable content: This is best for providing your students with information they’ll need to reference for future classes, like cheat sheets, glossaries, and detailed infographics.

Choose your online course platform

The platform you choose to host your online courses will be a big part of the entire experience your student has. Maybe you already know which platform or service you’ll use to distribute your course, but if not, there are a few questions you should ask while weighing your options.

• What metrics can I track with this platform? • Am I able to create course packages or bundles? • Does this platform allow marketing integrations? • Does this platform offer any email marketing features? • Can I build a landing page or website on this platform?

Keep in mind that there are other options outside of online learning-specific platforms that you can use to host your course. Here are your options:

Self-hosting

Many first-time course creators choose to self-host their course. Although it’s more time-consuming, you can use your WordPress site if you already have one. To do this, you’ll have to choose an LMS plugin and multiple add-ons for the full functionality of your course. This can be confusing for creators who are just getting familiar with CMS platforms like WordPress.

Click the button below to learn more about using WordPress to market yourself and sell anything from digital products to subscriptions to your new online course.

Online course marketplaces

If you choose to use a course marketplace like Skillshare or Udemy, you’ll enjoy the benefit of a wider reach, making your course much more visible to potential students. Not only this, but you won’t need any previous knowledge to use these platforms as you would with WordPress, so it’s easier to get your course up and running pretty quickly.

The one negative is that because course marketplaces are third-party, you’ll give up a large chunk of your profit. Plus, marketplaces don’t support white labeling or course customization, limiting how personal and unique you can make your course.

Online course platforms

Online course platforms (often called learning management systems) are the most popular option when creating and selling online courses. Notable platforms are Thinkific, Teachable, LearnWorld, Podia, Demio, and more.

These platforms are the simplest way to produce an online course. They offer everything from website building to course creation to e-commerce features in one place. You’ll need to pay a monthly subscription fee to use them!

g2 ,software comparison

As you assess your options for online learning platforms, you can use sites like G2 to read real customer reviews and compare one platform with another.

Create your course (writing, filming, editing)

Now that you’ve determined what you’ll teach, how you’ll structure your course, and the platform you’ll use to distribute it, you’ve finally reached the part where you create it! This means writing, filming, and editing the content.

Creating your online course content can seem daunting, but breaking it down into steps makes it manageable. First, outline your course content—decide what you want to teach and organize it into modules and lessons. When writing your script, keep it clear and engaging, making sure to explain concepts in a way that’s easy to follow.

For filming, you don’t need fancy equipment; a good smartphone camera and decent lighting can do the trick. Find a quiet, well-lit space to record, and try to keep your background simple. Practice speaking clearly and naturally, as if you’re talking to a friend.

Some popular recording styles include:

  • Screen recordings: If you’re on a budget, you can record your desktop screen while walking through class materials. Recordings like this are a great way to explain an idea or concept to your students.
  • Talking heads: The most engaging and personal recording style is a talking head. You’ll record your upper body as you talk to the camera while you teach the course. You can stand in front of a whiteboard or greenscreen that filters through slides, animations, videos, and diagrams. The bigger the course budget, the more angles and better lighting you can have while you shoot.
  • Presentations with voiceovers: Presentations with voiceovers are a half-step down from the talking head recording technique. You’ll record a voiceover as you progress through a slideshow or presentation. Typically, the speaker won’t be shown onscreen. Keep in mind that this method is more common for webinars than courses, but is still viable.

When it comes to editing, use beginner-friendly software like iMovie or Adobe Premiere Rush. Trim any mistakes, add slides or visuals to illustrate points, and include captions for accessibility. Take your time to ensure the final product is polished, but don’t stress about making it perfect—it’s more important that your content is valuable for your students.

The sooner you can get your course out into the world, the faster you’ll be able to collect feedback and make future courses even better.

Phase 3: Execute

The last two steps of the course creation process have to do with sharing your course with the world and what to do after the fact. We’re almost there!

Establish your pricing tiers

The pricing of your course will depend on a few different factors.

The level of marketing you plan on doing : How much are you planning to spend on getting your course in front of people who may be interested? Do you have software you need to pay for? Make sure the cost you’ll pay to spread the word is reflected in how you price your course.

Your course topic and who’s teaching it : Remember to consider who your audience is, what industry they’re in, and how much they’d be willing to pay for a course. Plus, people will usually be willing to pay more for a course created and taught by someone well-known in that industry. If you’ve got a huge audience with lots of engagement, you may have a reason to price your course more competitively.

Researching your competitors

Researching similar courses and competitors is crucial for pricing your online course.

Here’s how you can do it:

Search online course platforms: Start by exploring popular platforms like Udemy, Coursera, and Skillshare. Use keywords related to your course topic to find similar courses, and take note of their prices, course lengths, and content depth.

  • Analyze course content: Look at what these courses offer. Pay attention to the curriculum, number of modules, video lengths, additional resources, and any unique selling points. Compare this to what you plan to offer to see where your course stands in terms of value.
  • Read reviews and ratings: Check out student reviews and ratings for these courses. This can give you insights into what learners value most and what they feel is missing or could be improved. Use this feedback to refine your own course content and pricing strategy.
  • Evaluate instructors: Consider the qualifications and reputations of the instructors offering these courses. If you have similar or better credentials, you can justify a competitive price even if it’s higher than some others.
  • Consider your unique value proposition: Think about what makes your course unique. If you offer specialized knowledge, practical applications, or a unique teaching style, these can be leveraged to set a higher price point.
  • Test price points: Once you have an idea of the market range, consider testing different price points. You can offer promotional pricing to start, gather feedback, and adjust accordingly. Platforms like Teachable and Thinkific often provide tools to help with A/B testing pricing strategies.

By thoroughly researching and analyzing your competitors, you can set a price for your course that reflects its value while remaining competitive in the market. At the end of the day, when you put the effort into creating an online course, price it however you see fit for the value you’re providing.

Congrats, you’ve got a course to launch! Launching an online course successfully involves a mix of different techniques to reach your audience.

Here are some effective strategies:

  • Appear on podcasts: Get yourself interviewed on popular podcasts related to your course topic. It’s a great way to tap into an existing audience. Share your expertise, discuss what your course offers, and give listeners a special discount or offer.
  • Use social media marketing: Use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter to create buzz about your course. Post engaging content, teasers, behind-the-scenes looks, and countdowns to launch day. Use stories, live sessions, and posts to keep your audience excited.
  • Run paid ads: Invest in paid advertising on social media platforms and Google. Target your ads to specific demographics who would be interested in your course. Well-designed ads can drive a lot of traffic to your course landing page.
  • Enlist the help of search engine optimization (SEO): Optimize your course landing page and any related content for search engines. Use relevant keywords, create valuable content like blog posts or videos, and ensure your site loads quickly. Good SEO practices can help people find your course organically.
  • Rely on email marketing : Building an email list of potential buyers interested in your course is one of the best ways to send updates and even offer exclusive discounts. Send out a series of emails leading up to the launch with valuable content and sneak peeks. This will create a mini community of email subscribers excited about your course and ready to take it once it launches.
Note: It’s possible that someone won’t be immediately interested in your course when they first hear of it (online, through colleagues, or on your website). Asking for their email in exchange for valuable content like a newsletter or expert insights can build trust and convince them to take your course in the future.

Combining these techniques can create a powerful launch strategy that reaches your audience from multiple angles, building excitement and driving enrollments for your online course. It’ll take a bit of experimentation. Try a few of these strategies to see if they work, and if not, switch them up and double down on the ones that do.

Follow up and gather feedback

Asking for feedback from your students after launching your online course is super important because it helps you understand what’s working and what needs improvement. You should ask for feedback to improve your course, understand the needs of your students, build trust and engagement, and generate positive testimonials you can share on your social media platforms.

There are a few ways you can go about asking for this feedback:

  • Send out a survey: Send out a quick survey via email or through your course platform. Tools like Google Forms or SurveyMonkey make it easy to create and distribute surveys.
  • Ask in a follow-up email: After the course ends, send a follow-up email thanking students for participating and asking for their thoughts. Keep it short and sweet.
  • Strategically place prompts in the course: Include feedback prompts at the end of each module or lesson. This can be as simple as a one-question poll or a comment section.
  • One-on-one calls: Offer to have a short call with students who are willing to give detailed feedback. This can provide deeper insights and build personal connections. Typically this is a tactic more reserved for masterclass-level courses since you have to weigh getting feedback with the time you spend on calls with students.

By actively seeking feedback, you can continuously improve your online course creation, making it more effective and engaging for future students. And, life hack! Highlight the feedback from real customers who speak positively about your course. It’s great social proof to showcase your happy customers and potentially gain more customers.

If you receive negative feedback, don’t just brush it off. Take it to heart and use it to improve your course material. Your course is only as good as your most negative review!

Distributing your course with automation

Marketing automat i on tools are a lifesaver for promoting your online courses. They help you simplify your workflow, track the effectiveness of your campaigns, and create powerful, personalized emails in just a few clicks.

With the help of automation software like ActiveCampaign, you can set up workflows that automatically send targeted messages based on subscriber behavior, ensuring that the right people get the right information at the right time. This continuous promotion keeps your courses visible and top-of-mind, helping you attract and retain students effortlessly.

Plus, use ActiveCampaign sign-up forms on your website to get more people to join your list. You can customize your forms and use them to trigger automations that immediately send subscribers your content.

The importance of building your email list

Building your email list is essential in growing your brand. It lets you directly reach people interested in what you offer, keeping them in the loop with your latest content, updates, and courses. A solid email list helps you build a community around your brand, creating a loyal following that trusts and values your expertise.

Automating your email flows is like having a 24/7 marketing assistant. Setting up automated welcome emails makes a great first impression, introducing new subscribers to your brand and what they can expect. Follow-ups and reminders keep your audience engaged and informed about new content, upcoming courses, and special offers.

In ActiveCampaign, you can use customer preferences to craft emails that are a ‘must-open’ every time. This constant communication nurtures your relationship with subscribers, making them more likely to enroll in your courses and stick around for more.

Curious to see how a company found real results with ActiveCampaign?

Music school Groove Like a Pig needed a strategy and platform to sell learning content, grow its subscriber list, and generate more leads.

groove like a pig activecampaign

When they were introduced to ActiveCampaign, the Groove Like a Pig experience began to unfold in stages, priming people to commit to the bass community and take their playing to the next level. First, interested customers subscribed to their newsletter for regular content, which eventually led them to sign up for the community and lessons with Johan Berby, musician extraordinaire.

“I love the segmentation that’s possible in the pipeline with custom tags. I try to find their interest: Is it improv? Do they want to play blues? Do they mainly want to be a cover artist? Then when they click, it routes them to automations where they get more on that interest. If they’re still clicking and watching videos at the end of that journey, it’s time for them to sign up for a live video session so that I can coach them personally and help them achieve their dreams.”  — Johan Berby, Groove Like a Pig

Groove Like a Pig has seen some amazing wins with ActiveCampaign:

  • They’ve gone from 0 to over 13,000 active subscribers.
  • They’ve created a more personalized experience for subscribers and have increased community enrollment.
  • They’ve also been able to sell larger courses, going from €900 to €2,000.

Frequently asked questions

What is a video presentation.

Good question! A video presentation is a multimedia presentation that helps communicate an idea virtually. Prezi Video makes video presentations better by putting you and your content on screen together, making it a lot easier for you to engage and interact with your audience. You can then record a video or stream it live in a virtual meeting.

Can I share my video presentation outside my organization?

Yes, there are a few ways to share your video presentation. Share it live in a virtual meeting or record and share for others to watch on their own time. You can send a view link, embed it on a webpage, or export the video file to use without internet connection. Share it with whomever you want to – it doesn’t matter if your audience is inside or outside of your organization. To collaborate on a video presentation, the owner must give editing rights to collaborators and the collaborators must also have a Prezi license.

How do I reuse an existing Prezi presentation in Prezi Video?

Use the Prezi Video desktop app to import any Prezi presentation in your library into Prezi Video. Prezi Video will automatically delete the traditional background of your presentation, placing your content right next to you in the same screen so you can engage better with your audience.

Can I use existing slides from a non-Prezi presentation?

Definitely! Upload an existing presentation from PowerPoint or Google Slides to Prezi and convert it into a Prezi presentation. If you want to use a Keynote presentation, you’ll first need to export it as a PDF then import it into Prezi.

How do I connect my video presentation to my virtual meeting?

To connect your video presentation to your virtual meeting, you will need to download the Prezi Video desktop application. Once your content is ready, go to the camera settings of your video conferencing tool and select Prezi Camera. The desktop app will automatically connect to any supported tool.
