Jail Inmates - (Oct. 2019)

No Barriers in Education of Jail Inmates

Apart from affiliated schools, NIOS is presently having Study Centres (AAs, AIs, & AVIs ) in Jails of India also. It was observed that more number of jail inmates wanted to join NIOS courses but because of their poor financial condition, they were unable to do so. Accordingly, it was felt that if NIOS could offer the courses to jail inmates free of cost, it would enable them join NIOS courses for getting themselves educated. Also, if they are provided quality education during their stay in jails, it would certainly help them in earning their livelihood and bringing them into the mainstream of society after they are released from jails.

Transfer of Credit (TOC)

Ex-Secondary/Senior Secondary learners of the following Boards of School Education who have passed in at least one subject, but have not qualified in the course, may seek admission in the respective course at NIOS and avail facility of TOC.

A learner should seek Transfer of Credits (TOC) at the time of admission in the subjects which are included in NIOS scheme of studies.

The learners who had applied for Transfer of Credit (TOC) have to send original failed marksheet mentioning the Reference Number on the back of Mark Sheet to the concerned Regional Centre.

Dual Enrollment and Part Admission

Under this provision, if in case a learner is studying in a regular school, or has already passed Secondary/ Senior Secondary examination or any other higher course from any recognised Board/University, he/she may opt for upto four subjects of his/her choice, to update knowledge and educational qualifications. However, on passing, only the Marksheet will be issued and no other Certificate will be issued. The entry requirement for dual enrolment and part admission will be as per NIOS admission rules (Table-3 Entry Requirements).

• 1 After successful submission of Online Application Form for Admission to Stream 1 Block 1, you will get a confirmation on your email address and Mobile Number submitted during registration process.
• 2 You can make the Payment during the registration process or you can also make the payment later by login into Student Panel using the user name and password sent to you in your email.

On-line admission for learners who want to appear under the on demand examination system (odes) of nios for secondary level (stream-3)or sr. secondary level (stream-4).

Stream for On-line admission is open throughout the year for those learners who have already passed the Secondary Examination from the recognised Board and wish to take part admission in one subject or up to 4 subjects for updating their qualification, or learners who had appeared but could not clear, or who were eligible but could not appear in the Public Examination of the Secondary level from any recognised Board and want to appear through On Demand Examination System of NIOS for the Secondary level only and entry requirement of age, address proof as per table 3. The learners may upload the failed marksheet/Admit Card (Hall Ticket) alongwith relevant/supporting document and photograph on appropriate space available in the Online Admission Form for confirmation of the admission. The learners who had applied for Transfer of Credit (TOC) have to send original failed marksheet mentioning the Reference Number on the back of Mark Sheet to Online Cell, NIOS, Room No. 408, A-24-25, Institutional Area, Sector-62, NOIDA-201309, Uttar Pradesh. The Subjects available for appearing through ODES at Secondary level are Hindi (201), English (202), Sanskrit (209), Mathematics (211), Science & Technology (212), Social Science (213), Economics (214), Business Studies (215), Home Science (216), Psychology (222), Indian Culture & Heritage (223), Painting (225) and Data Entry Operations (229).

• 1 There is no Agencies/Cybercafe/any other institutions recognised by NIOS for Doing Online Admission.
• 2 You can take Admission yourself on the Internet without involving any middle man and without paying any extra amount to such middle man. You can take up help of your friends or family members in filling the online application form. You may visit your nearest Accredited Institution (AI) (Study Centre)/ CSC (Common Service Centre)/Facilitation centre or NIOS Regional Centre for Online Registration.
• 3 The Study Material will be delivered to you at your address provided by you during the Registration free of cost. Do not accept any VPP Parcel from anybody.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

NIOS has introduced 100% On-line admission at the Secondary and the Senior Secondary level in order to facilitate learners to register. Under this scheme, the learner have three options: (i)    He/She can register on-line directly by visiting the website of NIOS i.e., www.nios.ac.in (ii)    He/She may visit his/her nearest AI (Study Centre)/Facilitation Centre and take help for on-line registration. (iii)    He/She may visit the concerned Regional Centre of NIOS and take help for on line registration. (iv)    He/She can use the services of the Common Services Centres of the Govt. of India for Online registration throughout the Country.

A learner who has passed class VIII and has valid proof of attaining 14 years of age can apply for registration to the Secondary Course. The learner who gives a self certificate stating that "I have studied and able to pursue the secondary course" is also eligible for admission to the Secondary Course. The learner who had studied at the Secondary level can also seek admission in NIOS either to complete his course or to improve his performance. Residential proof of the learner.

The certificate of date of birth issued by a Municipal Corporation, a Municipal Body, a Village Panchayat or any other body authorised by the Registrar, Birth and Death, Government of India, and the Aadhaar Card issued by Govt. Agency is a valid proof of date of birth. However, in case of orphans, street children etc., a medical certificate in respect of age issued by a Government Hospital is also acceptable as a valid proof of date of birth.

When a draft of a blockbuster Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade leaked in 2022 , Vice President Kamala Harris met with Ron Klain, then the White House chief of staff, in her West Wing office. He had an idea: She should lead a new task force on abortion rights.

She seemed uncertain. “Why?” she asked.

“We need a real leader, and you’re the leader,” Mr. Klain responded.

Ms. Harris asked for time to think about it. She did not want to just give a speech without substance. And she had spent much of the previous year and a half trying to avoid being typecast as the first female vice president. But as the White House began mapping out executive actions to defend access to abortion, she began to see the possibilities and accepted the role.

It was a moment that captured the essence of the Harris vice presidency. Deliberate and disciplined, cautious and at times risk averse, she saw trapdoors around her and wanted to avoid them. She considered herself a team player, but could not always be sure the team had her best interests at heart. She gravitated to issues on which she thought she could make a difference without upstaging President Biden, but was rarely promoted as a critical player in the administration.

The court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision eliminating a constitutional right to abortion proved to be an issue on which Ms. Harris could take the lead, one that Mr. Biden, a churchgoing Catholic, did not feel as comfortable addressing. She found her voice as the administration’s champion of abortion rights , changing some minds among Democrats who had harbored doubts about her. And she paved the way to the moment when she will accept her party’s nomination for president this week.

Ms. Harris’s record as vice president is complex, as described in interviews with dozens of current and former administration officials and allies, some of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid alienating her or the president. She has done the dutiful things she has been asked to do. She led a labor task force and a gun safety office. She traveled to places the president had no time to visit. She has been sent to deliver private messages to the leaders of Poland and Germany and to break key tie votes in the Senate.
