The movie is the brainchild of three writers, Howard Burd, Dante Yore, and Mark S. Allen, who tried to adapt a few real elements in the movie, such as the location. As per reports, the principal photography of the movie took place in and around Auburn, California, where the story originally unfolds.

The movie’s title, ‘616 Wilford Lane,’ is not an actual location in the city, but the ‘616’ is seemingly derived from a new revelation. In theology and other references, 666 is considered the number of the antichrist, beast, or devil. But purportedly , a discovery of a fragment from the New Testament shows that it is indeed the number, 616.

In the opening sequence of the movie, a similar message flashes on the screen, “In 2005, a missing piece of Papyrus 115 was discovered, proving earlier suggestions that 666, historically known to be the number of the beast, is incorrect. The sign of the beast is 616.” Many horror genre tropes have been utilized in this film, such as a family moving into a new house, inexplicable events out of the blue, strange neighbors, uncontrollable teenagers, and incompetent police officers. But the movie deviates from the norm during its 10-minute climax with an unforeseeable twist.

Although the ending answered most questions raised throughout the movie, it received mixed reviews from the audience. Nonetheless, the filmmakers carried an old trope and took the creative leap of altering the ending by bringing something refreshing to the genre instead of old and meandering twists. In the history of horror cinema, countless movies have a similar storyline of a family relocating to a haunted house. A few such films with a congruent premise to ‘616 Wilford Lane’ based on a true story, are ‘The Haunting in Connecticut,’ ‘The Conjuring,’ and ‘The Amityville Horror.’

Similar to the ‘ Paranormal Activity ’ franchise, the family sets up a CCTV camera after the events become stranger by the day. Most of the hauntings showcased in the movie parallel those in the long-running horror film franchise. In conclusion, ‘616 Wilford Lane’ is a thrilling cinematic experience but not based on a real-life story. That said, it borrows several elements from theology and movies with identical themes. We have a brand new trailer for Marvel's 616 . This new docuseries is coming to Disney+ later this year and will offer a deep dive into the Marvel universe. But not just what is hidden within the pages of the comics. Instead, this show will aim to show us how Marvel has made an impact in the real world over the years by exploring all sorts of stories involving the company's characters and fans.

The trailer kicks off by presenting us with a bit of philosophy from the late Stan Lee , which sets the stage for what the show is trying to accomplish. We are offered brief glimpses at the eight different stories that will be told, through the eyes of eight different filmmakers, across the show's first season. Cosplay. Art. History. Live theater. A lot of ground is covered.

Marvel's 616 sets out to explore Marvel's legacy of pioneering characters, creators, and storytelling. Each documentary, which is helmed by a unique filmmaker, showcases the intersections of storytelling, pop culture and fandom within the Marvel universe. Episodes in this anthology series will cover a wide range of topics including Marvel's artists, the women of Marvel Comics, the forgotten characters of Marvel and more.

David Gelb directed the first episode, titled The Japanese Spider-Man , which takes a look at the 1978 Japanese adaptation of Marvel's beloved webslinger, which has rarely been seen by American viewers. Gillian Jacobs directed the second episode of the series. It offers some perspective of what it means to be a woman in what's perceived to be a male-driven industry. Title Higher, Further, Faster , the episode will shine a light on the trailblazing women of Marvel Comics and explores how they found ways to tell stories of representation and inclusion. Amazing Artisans is the third episode, which is directed by Clay Jeter and shines a light on two Marvel artists, Javier Garron and Natacha Bustos, who live in Barcelona.

Paul Scheer directs the fourth episode titled Lost and Found , which explores obscure and forgotten characters of the Marvel universe. Suit Up! is the fifth episode which focuses on cosplay culture. It was directed by Andrew Rossi. Sarah Ramos is at the helm for Unboxed , the sixth episode, which takes a look at the relationship between toys and comics. Bryan Oakes directed The Marvel Method , episode seven, which explores what went into creating the new Iron Man 2020 comic. Lastly, Alison Brie directs the last episode of the season, Marvel Spotlight . It looks at a group of students at a Florida high school who are putting performances of new Marvel Spotlight plays.

Disney+ will also be getting a host of live-action MCU shows starting with WandaVision later this year. This scripted series, which also includes The Falcon and the Winter Soldier , Loki , She-Hulk and more, will be heavily tied to the movies, unlike Daredevil . Christian Jensen stitch together a number of Dion’s session takes to show the effort required for the singer to do what once came so naturally. Through moments like these the director builds an affecting project of contrasts: A portrait of Dion, past and present. 

When Taylor and Dion dig into the past, the results are edifying. A trip to the singer’s warehouse, stocked with costumes, shoes and other memorabilia from her decades-long career, is a chance to review her legacy. Dion, now 56, rummages through the items while highlighting key moments in her career. She talks about her relationship to fashion, remarking with a wink that her shoe size ranges from a 6 to a 10 because she doesn’t mind suffering for the perfect piece.

The “we” is critical. Throughout I Am: Celine Dion , the Canadian singer expresses profound gratitude for members of her team, from the people who helped stage her tours to the medical professionals, including Dr. Amanda Piquet, helping her manage SPS. There are no interviews with this supporting cast, however. I Am: Celine Dion doesn’t supplement its subject’s testimony with anyone. Instead, like that Instagram video from 2022, it functions as a direct communion between herself and her fans. 

Dion genuinely believes in the power of moving farther together. “I didn’t invent myself, I didn’t create myself,” the Québecoise singer says at one point in the documentary. One wonders if this commitment to teamwork stems from a childhood spent with a big family. Dion was born in Québec to a family of 14 children. According to the singer, her parents worked hard to make sure the kids would never be aware of any suffering. Her mother invented dishes when there was little food in the fridge and Dion counts her siblings as her first audience.

I Am: Celine Dion steadies itself when it returns to the intersection of Dion’s career with her medical condition. The film highlights just how much music means to the singer. She uses any opportunity — creating a get well video with her sons, doing physical therapy — to break into song.

In interviews, Dion works through her anxieties and concerns. She worries about not being able to control her voice in the same way or whether or not she has the energy to live life as she once knew it. There are moments in the doc when the singer, in the middle of an activity, will remark on her legs and other parts of her body feeling sore or tired.

The film is as much about the singer as it is about the realities of living with a chronic illness. Taylor does not shy away from sitting in on difficult points in Dion’s life, including one painful scene in which the singer seizes up after a busy and overstimulating afternoon. Her foot stiffens first and then her entire body locks in place. As her doctor moves Dion to lie on her side and urges her to take deep breaths, tears stream down the singer’s face.

This palpable and visceral glimpse into her pain is a jolting reminder of the toll this condition has taken on Dion not just as a star but as a person.

LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- The Bikeriders , in theaters Friday, is a lovingly crafted homage to outlaw culture in the '60s. However, it is not blinded by the legend and presents the devastatingly dangerous side of it, too.

In the film, a photojournalist interviews Kathy (Jodie Comer), the wife of Vandals Chicago motorcycle gang member Benny (Austin Butler) in the '60s. Kathy describes the Vandals' lifestyle under President Johnny (Tom Hardy). Advertisement

Early scenes use the camera, editing and music to capture the energy of motorcycle culture. It's infectious enough to overcome even the greatest disinterest in two-wheeled vehicles.

The Vandals quickly expand from Chicago to chapters around the country. But establishing a system of organizational rules amounts to fighting to settle disputes.

Other motorcycle clubs pick fights with the Vandals, so brawls erupt everywhere they go. The Vandals take extreme retribution on anyone who harms them. It's not an eye for an eye, so the price for harming a Vandal is exponentially higher. Advertisement

The culture is seen through Kathy's eyes. She's the articulate one who can answer the journalist's questions, but as soon as Benny's not around, this world is dangerous for Kathy.

Johnny realizes some truths, though he can't verbalize them. But he notices that no matter how hard he tries to live by a code, he can't convince the younger generation to adopt it.

What is beyond any of these men, but not beyond writer-director Jeff Nichols, is that whatever code they think they live by breeds violence. Their best friends commit violence against each other, but excluding a violent person can be even more dangerous because their resentment triggers even more violence.

By the '70s, the next generation was attracted to the most dangerous parts of motorcycle clubs. Johnny started the Vandals so people could ride in packs, but by the '70s, people saw it as an excuse to break the law in a hotbed of mutual abuse.

The Bikeriders is full of real vehicular stunts. Bike races and driving between cars are the most showy, but any time an actor sits on a moving vehicle, it's a stunt.

The Bikeriders take viewers into this volatile world from a safe distance. It shows how the threat of violence ultimately outweighs any appeal of freedom and community such gangs purport to offer. Advertisement

'The Bikeriders' is more about the violent ride and memorable characters than a destination

616 movie review

"The Bikeriders," Jeff Nichols' latest film, is based on a 1968 photo book by Danny Lyon in which the photographer chronicles the lives of a motorcycle club as they cruise through the Midwest.

With a photo book you're free to drop in and out, to browse at your leisure. There's a narrative there, but it's loose.

Movies are more of a start-to-finish proposition (though I suppose streaming offers some of the same flexibility). "The Bikeriders" — the film version, a star-studded affair with Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy — is more compelling (and it's plenty compelling) when thought of like the book. Individual scenes and characters draw you in and make you want to spend time in the world Nichols has painstakingly created. That makes it absolutely worth the price of admission. But the overall journey, about the rise and not-quite fall of a motorcycle club, is less interesting.

What club is 'The Bikeriders' about?

Mike Faist plays Danny, who, when we meet him, is basically embedded with the Vandals, a motorcycle club led by Johnny (Hardy), a married truck driver who was inspired when he saw Marlin Brando in "The Wild One." It takes a certain amount of chutzpah to show a scene from a classic, and what a scene it is: when Brando's Johnny is asked what he's rebelling against, he says, "Whaddya got?" Teen revolt in a single sentence.

At first, Johnny isn't really rebelling against anything. He just wants to hang out and ride with his friends. Sure, they drink and fight, though in such a matter-of-fact way that if you asked them why they'd probably say, "Who doesn't?"

One day, a friend drags Kathy (Jodie Comer) into a bar where the Vandals hang out. She's appalled until she spots Benny (Butler). The next thing you know she's on the back of his motorcycle, roaring away. The next thing you know after that, they're married. His devotion to his marriage and to his club provides a lot of the tension in the film. If Johnny thought that as leader of a motorcycle club he could strong-arm Benny's devotion, he finds out Kathy is as tough as any leather-clad biker on the road.

The film is told through flashbacks of Danny interviewing Kathy. Comer, an Emmy winner for "Killing Eve" and a Tony winner for "Prima Facie," is typically excellent as a woman who is at times bemused by her husband and his friends, sometimes frustrated, and occasionally endangered. She remains attracted to Benny throughout, sometimes to her own consternation.

And now, a word about the accents. Comer and Hardy are brilliant, committed actors. They're also British. "The Bikeriders" takes place outside of Chicago. To say they go all in on Midwestern accents is to understate the case considerably. They would be at home in one of the old "Da Bears" skits on "Saturday Night Live."

The club is littered with intriguing characters. The great Michael Shannon, a Nichols regular (he's so great in " Midnight Special " and "Take Shelter"), plays Zipco, whose rejection from the Army has left him disillusioned and mostly drunk. Cockroach (Emory Cohen) loves the club, probably too much. Norman Reedus' Funny Sunny shows up from California with the most disgusting set of teeth I think I've ever seen and a mission. My favorite performance of the bunch might be by Boyd Holbrook as the club's mechanic, who always seems like he's in on some kind of joke.

The club grows in popularity. Soon other cities and towns start their own chapters. It's not welcome competition, though one big fight scene is particularly entertaining. Violence is a way of life for these men, the way they solve problems. Kathy worries about Benny. He's an aimless sort, a rather blank kind of fellow. He just wants to ride. She wants to grow up and have a life, a life with Benny. But his life is roaring down the highway in Vandals colors.

The thing is, we don't care so much about the growth of the club. The performances, Comer as Kathy in particular, are what grab us. It's sort of like gathering a group of the world's best performers and having them act out an old biker movie.

The whole isn't quite as interesting as the sum of its parts, is another way to put it. The parts, though, are quite good on their own.

Was curious how the ending was going to play out there. And for a bit I thought I was watching a soft porn film. I mean you got the beautiful location with this gorgeous house. Then the wonky actors.

616 Wilford Lane is a movie that so successfully skirts past any narrative obligations for 79 minutes of its 85 minute runtime. There are nuggets of separate stories but little to no attempt to tie them all together. I’ll try:

The story is simple. Dad and his two daughters move into a McMansion after a devastating loss. However, their dream home proves to be something of a nightmare as they uncover a dark secret in the house’s history. 

Again, I had to tie quite a bit together there. What this movie really shows is some dude and two women, all of whom belong in the 26-45 age demographic. Through the movie, they witness THINGS and hear NOISES and…

This was pretty much your standard Ghost/haunted house story (with surveillance footage that really teeters on Paranormal Activity plagiarism) right up until that twist. And then they hit you with another twist. This was easily a 1.5-star for me until that first twist.

Also, Jasmine Waltz (Austyn, the realtor) is what you get when you order Megan Fox on Wish. But not all Wish products are bad.

For viewers of a certain age — or, perhaps more likely at this point, most ages — the term “Brat Pack” evokes nostalgia at its fondest. Movies like “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink” remain rites of passage for teenagers coming of age nearly 40 years later, and few would argue that the 1980s didn’t represent a high-water mark for teen movies. For actual members of that coterie of actors, it’s a little more complicated.

There’s a visceral impact to the word “brat” nevertheless — it’s a clever play on the original Rat Pack, of course, but doesn’t evoke youth so much as petulance and immaturity. As McCarthy says to Estevez, “Marty Scorsese, Steven Spielberg’s not going to call up somebody who’s in the Brat Pack.” Estevez, for his part, once passed on a project whose screenplay he called “one of the best I’d read in a long time” because McCarthy was also attached to it and he feared how yet another Brat Pack movie would be received. That script, “Young Men with Unlimited Capital,” was never produced.

A few would-be interviewees are missing in action. McCarthy fails to track down Judd Nelson despite repeated attempts (the phrase “undisclosed location” is used, somewhat ominously) and can’t convince Molly Ringwald to sit down for an interview either, though anyone curious for her thoughts on this phase of her life would do well to read her thoughtful New Yorker article about it in the wake of #MeToo. Also conspicuous in his absence is Ringwald’s “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles” co-star Anthony Michael Hall, a Brat Packer by any definition who’s never even mentioned by name here. Given that one portion of the film is literally devoted to asking interviewees which actors they consider to have been part of the club — including Brat Pack-adjacent performers like Jon Cryer and Lea Thompson — the fact that Hall receives nary a mention is odd indeed.

McCarthy does land one surprising interview subject, however: the writer who couldn’t have known the long-lasting impact his turn of phrase would end up having. Blum isn’t exactly apologetic, stressing that a journalist isn’t supposed to be his subject’s friend and he doesn’t have any regrets. Though the former New York contributor doesn’t acquit himself especially well despite largely being right, McCarthy seems to have gotten what he needed from the experience. Whether that’s true of viewers may depend on their fondness for him and his cohort, but there’s clearly no shortage of that all these years later.
