How to access experimental in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 has a multitude of game modes, but that one option on the menu is often greyed out. Experimental is maybe not quite what some people think it is, but it is a different way to play. Here is everything you need to know about Overwatch 2 experimental.

What is experimental mode?

When you open up the Play menu in Overwatch 2, you might notice an option at the end of the list, labeled experimental. More often than not, this option will be locked out and you won't be able to access it.

If it is available, you can use it to try out a totally different game mode. As the name suggests, this is how Blizzard tests new game modes openly with the community. It could be something as simple as small balance changes from the regular modes, or it could be something completely different.

You can think of the experimental playlist as a permanent beta test. The content within is subject to change, may not even be added to the full game, and is liable to have bugs and break altogether.

When is the experimental playlist available?

Unfortunately, there is no predicting when the next experimental mode will be added to Overwatch 2. The playlist does not have any kind of schedule, it isn't a monthly thing or anything like that.

There are no benefits or rewards for partaking in experimental modes, so don't worry about losing out if you miss them. Your best bet is to check the Play menu in Overwatch 2 every once in a while if you want to know when a new experimental mode is added.

Experimental modes tend to stick around for a week or two, so a weekly check-in would be more than enough to keep up to date.

Experimental

Experimental is a temporary game mode in Overwatch that allows the development team to experiment with changes outside of the monthly patch cycles. The changes are not necessarily related to hero balancing, and entire game modes may be reworked.

Experimental changes can be applied to Custom Games, under the "Lobby" settings.

Differences from the PTR [ | ]

Unlike the PTR , Experimental is available in the live version of the game, meaning players in all platforms can use it, and players can level up their accounts while playing it. Furthermore, the main purpose of the PTR is to test stability and bugs; any balance changes on the PTR are intended to go live and modification of the changes, while possible, are usually minor. On the other hand, Experimental tests more radical changes that the team is unsure of and allows players to offer direct feedback; the changes are not guaranteed to go live in any shape or form.

Some changes are impossible to implement on Experimental (i.e. it involves more than changing number values), so the PTR will still used for balance changes. Experimental does not replace the PTR.

While a new PTR patch is generally available within 1 or 2 weeks of a new live patch and lasts for roughly 3 or 4 weeks, the Experimental card comes abruptly and arbitrarily, usually without warning, and only lasts a few days. The Experimental mode rolls out changes server-side, removing the need for a patch to be downloaded. This also, in turn, allows changes to be released on console simultaneously and without affecting PC release scheduling, due to not needing to wait for certification from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. This makes it behave more like an Arcade mode, rather than a large update.

Current Experiment [ | ]

This experimental card became publicly available on March 22, 2021.

This experiment is intended for use during the Overwatch League Experimental Card Tournament and for you to try out these player-suggested changes yourselves – there are no plans to implement these changes outside of this experimental card.

How to Unlock Experimental in Overwatch 2

Let chaos ensue!

experimental game mode overwatch 2

The experimental mode in Overwatch 2 is a specific, time-limited experience that players globally can sometimes participate in order to break out of the usual, sometimes monotonous, and stale gameplay experience in all available game modes. Prima Games will let you know if and how you can unlock the Experimental mode in Overwatch 2 and how to play it when it is unlocked.

How to Play Experimental Mode in Overwatch 2

The experimental mode was made by Blizzard in an effort to test out some new stuff, which sometimes helps them to gauge the state of the game and guides them toward implementing changes on the live server.

When Experimental Mode is available to play in Overwatch 2, you will see it as an option in the Play Menu. As you can see in the screenshot above, it is locked at the moment of writing this article.

When Will Experimental Mode Be Available in Overwatch 2?

When you have a look at the Official Overwatch Experimental Patch Notes Page you can establish that the last experiment happened in February 2022. As of now, we do not see any announcement from Overwatch Team (or Blizzard) in regards to when the next Experimental Mode will be live. At any rate, it’s worth mentioning that it usually lasts about a week or two, so when you do notice it’s live and available, try to make the most of it.

Let’s test these hypotheses: Creator Experimental Card and Experimental Cup 2

Overwatch has teamed up with content creators to build the second Creator Experimental Card! This daring and wild experimental patch will feature updates, changes, and additions never seen in Overwatch before. We have given our creators complete freedom to turn the Experimental game mode into their sandbox and imagine their own versions of Overwatch. No hero will be left unchanged, and you may find some of their updates fresh and new... yet strangely familiar.

An unexpected, but not unwelcome, development.

Our group of content creators for this experimental card is as interesting and unique as their proposed changes. All Overwatch 2 Game Modes

This page of IGN’s Overwatch 2 wiki lists all the game modes you can play in Overwatch 2, including new game modes which premiere along with new seasons of Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass .

Control , Escort , Hybrid , and Push are game modes you can play in Unranked, Competitive, and some Arcade modes. Mystery Heroes and Deathmatch are two game modes that can also be played in Unranked.

Capture the Flag , Deathmatch , Elimination , Team Deathmatch , Bounty Hunter , CTF Blitz , Low Gravity , Limited Duel , and No Limits are all game modes you might find in the Overwatch 2 Arcade .

OW2 Game Modes.jpg

While the Assault game mode is no longer in rotation for Quick Play and Competitive in Overwatch 2, all Assault maps ( Hanamura , Horizon Lunar Colony , Paris , Temple of Anubis , and Volskaya Industries ) are still available to play in Custom Games with Assault game mode rules .

Capture the Flag

Elimination, team deathmatch, bounty hunter, low gravity, limited duel.

In the Control game mode, both teams fight to seize control over a single objective point. The team who can maintain control of the objective point the longest, reaching 100%, wins that round of Control.

OW2 Control.jpg

Each round of Control begins on a new map. The first team to win two out of three rounds of Control wins the entire game.

The attacking team in Escort moves a payload through the map, while the defending team fights to halt their progress. If the attacking team can escort their payload to the delivery point at the end of the map, they win. If the defending team can keep the attackers from regaining control of the payload before time runs out, then the defenders win the round.

OW2 Escort.jpg

Should the attacking team still be actively escorting the payload when time runs out, the match will go into “overtime”. The moment the attacking team steps away from the payload, however, they forfeit control of the payload, and within seconds will lose the round.

In Competitive, defending and attacking teams switch each round. The team who successfully delivers the payload, or the team who escorts it the farthest, is the winner of the whole match.

The Hybrid game mode is a combination of the Assault game mode (retired from the original Overwatch) and Escort game mode. The attacking team must first battle the defenders to win control of an objective point where a payload sits. Once the point is taken, the payload becomes activated, and attackers must escort it to the delivery point at the other end of the map.

OW2 Hybrid.jpg

Like Escort, in Competitive mode, the defending and attacking teams will switch each round. The team who successfully takes the objective point and delivers the payload, or escorts it the farthest is the winner of the whole match.

Push is a new game mode introduced in Overwatch 2 , in which two teams fight over control of a robot in an effort to escort it as it pushes your team’s barricade to the delivery point.

Thirty seconds into the Push match, the Robot becomes active, and either team can now capture it. Depending on which team won control, the Robot will begin pushing that team's Barricade in the direction of the enemy team's spawn.

OW2 Push.jpg

While pushing the Barricade, the Robot moves much slower. However, if at any point on the journey to the end of the route the Robot is retaken, it will walk at a much faster pace until it reaches the other Barricade. Whenever control of the Robot is swapped, the respective Barricade the Robot was pushing remains exactly where the Robot left it.

You have ten minutes to escort the Robot while it pushes your Barricade to the end of the route. If neither team succeeds in this, at the end of the ten minutes, whichever team pushed the Robot the farthest distance is declared the winner.

The game can go into Overtime if the Robot is currently being contested at the ten-minute mark, or if the team with control at the ten-minute mark has less distance traveled than their rival.

Mystery Heroes

Mystery Heroes is a game mode available in Unranked. The game mode operates just like Role Queue or Open Queue Unranked, placing you into a random game mode such as Escort, Hybrid, Control, or Push, operating under normal game mode rules.

The catch is that you are unable to choose which hero you play . At the start of the game, and every time you die, you are randomly given a "mystery" hero to play.

Capture the Flag is an Arcade mode in which two teams attempt to steal the enemy team’s flag and return it to their own base, all while defending their own flag from being taken.

OW2 Capture the Flag.jpg

The team that successfully delivers three enemy flags to their base, or the team to steal the most flags by the end of the timer is the winner.

Otherwise known as “free-for-all”, the Deathmatch game mode is available in Unranked and Arcade. This mode is an every-player-for-themselves bloodbath .

OW2 Deathmatch.jpg

Eight players compete to be the first to get twenty kills against enemy players, or otherwise to be the player with the most kills before the timer runs out.

Elimination is an Arcade game mode that pits you or your team against the enemy in a battle to the death.

OW2 Elimination.jpg

Played in teams of three, six, or solo, once a player goes down in Elimination, you do not respawn. The team or player to kill all the enemy players wins that round . You must win three rounds in total to win the match.

In the Arcade game mode Team Deathmatch , a team of four players works together to be the first to get thirty kills against the enemy team, or to be the team with the most kills overall before the timer runs out.

OW2 Team Deathmatch.jpg

In the Arcade mode Bounty Hunter , you and five other players face off to be the first to win 4000 points . You gain points by killing the current target or the "bounty". By claiming the target's "bounty, you become the target yourself, raising your health and ultimate meter to full.

OW2 Petra 3.jpg

You can also earn additional points by killing heroes who are not currently the target when you are the bounty.

In the Arcade mode CTF Blitz , or "Control the Flag Blitz", two teams of five players attempt to steal the enemy team’s flag and return it to their own base, all while defending their own flag from being taken.

OW2 Lijian Tower Garden 2.jpg

The team that successfully delivers six enemy flags to their base, or the team to steal the most flags by the end of the timer is the winner. Unlike traditional Capture the Flag, CTF Blitz is played at a much faster pace.

In the Low Gravity Arcade mode, two teams of five compete in familiar Unranked Quick Play game modes (Escort, Hybrid, Control, Push) on randomized maps, but with one small catch: you are playing in the same low-gravity environments .

In the No Limits Arcade mode, two teams of five compete in familiar Quick Play game modes (Escort, Hybrid, Control, Push) on randomized maps, but unlike Role Queue or Open Queue games, there are no limits to which heroes you can choose . Play on a team with three Tracers, two Roadhogs, and one Lucio if you like!

Similar in many aspects to the Elimination Arcade mode, in Limited Duel , you face off in a 1v1 duel against another player. Once you or your rival gets an elimination, you score a point. You must win three rounds in total to win the match. In Limited Duel, unlike 1v1 Elimination, you are given a limited selection of heroes to choose from.

Retired from the Quick Play and Competitive rotation, Assault is still available to play in Custom Games.

OW2 Assault.jpg

Often referred to as “2CP” (or “two control points”), in the Assault game mode, one team is tasked with capturing two objective points from the enemy team before time runs out. Only once the first objective (Objective A) is captured can the enemy team attempt to take the next objective (Objective B).

How to test Overwatch’s Experimental Mode changes in Practice Range

experimental game mode overwatch 2

Overwatch’s Experimental Mode is great for letting players try out some of the potential new balance changes in a match setting, but did you know it’s possible to test out the updates using the Practice Range/Training Room?

Sometimes there will be certain ability changes that are better to evaluate in the Practice Range, just to see how they will interact with certain heroes.

In a post on the official forums, even Overwatch’s Game Director Jeff Kaplan admitted he wasn’t aware that it was possible to load up the Practice Range with the Experimental Mode changes.

“We’ll try to figure something out,” Kaplan said, replying to a post by a user asking for the option to try out changes on bots.

Lo and behold, only ten minutes later, Kaplan confessed that his team was “laughing” at him for not knowing this was already possible.

“You can already do this in the game browser by creating a custom game, putting up the Practice Range and enabling Experimental,” he wrote .

  •   Read More: Overwatch streamer reveals true hitboxes for every hero

The way to do this is simple. First, go to the game browser and select “create game.” Next, select your preset – in this case, Practice Range. Next, go to the lobby and click “options.” From there, all you have to do is choose “enable” for “use experimental if available.”

Now, you’ll be able to try out all the new nerfs, buffs and reworks without having to load into a game to do so. This can be handy if you want to see how new damage numbers will apply on certain targets without the use of a calculator.

For instance, now, you can see for yourself how two headshots from Zenyatta on a discorded target will deal 249.6 damage – almost enough to two-tap a Reaper or Doomfist.

Being able to see if the damage will round up or not is something more practical to test out on bots than attempt to recreate in an actual game.

While the process of creating a custom game may be a bit time-consuming, Kapan did state that the team is looking to make it a bit more streamlined with a future update.

Everything we know about new Overwatch 2 Community Crafted mode

Season 11 of Overwatch 2 will introduce a brand-new game mode to the series called Community Crafted, which will feature balance changes to many of the game's hero pool that were hand-picked by four of the game's most popular creators. Some of these changes were previewed in a June 18 developer update video by game director Aaron Keller, who showed off some of what players can expect in the new mode.

Chief among what was mentioned is the return of Hanzo's Scatter Arrow ability, which hasn't been in Overwatch since May of 2018 when it was replaced by Storm Arrow. The section covering this new mode starts at 1:52.

Overwatch 2 season 11 tinkers with Push mode, celebrates return of Summer Games and Pink Mercy

Image of Scott Robertson

The next season of Overwatch 2 is right around the corner, and some changes to how players play the Push game mode are being pushed to the forefront alongside the returns of some popular content.

In season 11 , titled Super Mega Ultrawatch, a new map is finally being introduced. Runasapi, which was teased at BlizzCon 2023 and then confirmed in an Overwatch 2 developer update back in March, will join the Push map pool with the launch of the next season. The solar-powered Peruvian city Runasapi is just the fourth map in the Push pool.

The rework of Colosseo, one of the other maps in the small Push pool, will also launch in season 11. While the trailer that was released today only showed a small glimpse of the reworked Colosseo, it appears that some of the major chokepoints on the Roman map are getting substantial changes. The dev team has also confirmed that the glass on Colosseo has been removed.

Outside of the changes to Push, some beloved content is making its return with season 11, namely the Pink Mercy skin and the Summer Games event. Pink Mercy is back to celebrate 100 million players , and 100 percent of the purchases of Pink Mercy and the Rose Gold Mercy bundles made between June 25 and July 8 will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Gameplay-wise, season 11 will feature a number of buffs for heroes across all three roles. Cassidy will swap out his Magnetic Grenade for “a new and improved Flashbang.”

As with previous seasons, season 11 will launch with a plethora of new skins (including new Mythics) and cosmetics to earn between the battle pass and new store bundles. Players will also have a new playlist of community-crafted custom game modes to explore via the arcade mode. Season 11 goes live on June 20.

Overwatch 2's upcoming Power Rangers-inspired season and Transformers collaboration may convince me to jump back in

What you need to know.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced the launch date for Overwatch 2, Season 11 along with a trailer showcasing the wide range of new content it will bring.

The season titled "Super Mega Ultrawatch" will feature new cosmetic skins to grab, a new map, the return of the Pink Mercy skin, Hero Mastery missions for Kiriko and Soldier 76, new and returning game modes, and a collaboration event with the Transformers franchise.

Season 11 of Overwatch 2 is scheduled to begin on June 20, 2024.

On June 17, 2024, Blizzard Entertainment showed off a new trailer for Overwatch 2's 11th season titled "Super Mega Ultrawatch" along with the announcement that it will commence on June 20, 2024.

This season will be themed around reimaging various Overwatch heroes as villains and superheroes inspired by the iconic 1990s superhero show, Power Rangers, and will feature a plethora of new skins, game modes, balance changes for Heroes, and more throughout the season.

Here's everything you need to know in this upcoming season of Overwatch 2 .

New and returning cosmetic skins

To start things off, Ashe will be getting a new supervillainess Mythic skin called Calamity Ashe, complete with new visual effects for her abilities and Ultimate. You can unlock Calamity by collecting 50 Mythic Prisms (the game's new in-game currency introduced in Season 10), and use any remaining Prisms to customize the skin with three additional configurations.

Ashe isn't the only one to get a new skin as there will be several new Legendary skins for Reaper, Roadhog, Zenyatta, Genji, Ana, Wrecking Ball, Cassidy, Sojourn, and more.

There will also be a new type of weapon skin coming in Season 11 called Mythic Weapon Skins. These cosmetic weapons can be equipped with any matching hero and will give their attacks visual effects and sounds. You can unlock Mythic Weapon Skins by purchasing the base skin with 50 Mythic Prisms then unlock additional levels with 10 Mythic Prisms to upgrade it with a Weapon Flourish emote, elimination visual effects and reactive effects.

The first of the Mythic Weapon skins will be the Mythic Bound Demon Reinhardt weapon skin and it will be available on July 23, 2023.

Season 11 will a bring new Premium Battle Pass where players can unlock the Ultrawatch skins for Genji, Reaper, and Sojourn, an additional Lifeguard skin for Lucio, and other rewards like sprays and skins.

If players purchase the Ultimate Battle Pass bundle, they will be able to obtain the base battle pass' content along with 20 Tier skips, 2000 Overwatch Coins, and the new Kaiju Roadhog and Kaiju Zenyatta Legendary Skins.

To celebrate Overwatch 2 reaching 100 million concurrent players, Blizzard Entertainment is bringing the coveted Pink Mercy skin along with a new Rose Gold Mercy skin in a bundle. All proceeds made from purchasing these skins will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (do note these exclude applicable platform fees and taxes. The new Mercy skins will be available for purchase on June 25, 2024.

Event and weekly challenges

To aid players in their progress in completing the Season 11 Battle Pass, Season 11 will implement various event challenges that will reward players 40,000 Battle Pass XP. In addition, if players up to 40 games with these event challenges, they will be able to obtain the Aztec Sombra bundle which contains an Epic skin for Sombra, a name card, and a spray.

Season 11 will also rework weekly challenges so it will be easier for players to complete them. If a player misses a week, they can catch up on complete that week's challenges before moving to the current week's challenges. In addition, completing 3 weekly challenges will instantly net you 20,000 XP and each week will offer new milestone rewards.

Twitch Drops Campaign cosmetics

Starting on June 20, 2024, Overwatch 2 will host Twitch Drops campaigns where players can obtain fan-made cosmetics by watching various Overwatch 2-focused Twitch streamers.

From June 20, 2024, to June 24, 2024, players can grab the Letter on the Wind spray for Kiriko (which was hand-drawn by the community artist Angela Ziegler [@A2Ziegler]) by tuning in for three hours, and obtain the Nihan Hanzo Epic Skin by watching Twitch for 7 hours.

Then from June 20 to June 24, players can obtain the Cute Rose Gold Mercy icon (which was drawn by community artist Dani Ellis [@OWGrandma]) by watching Twitch for 3 hours and have a second chance to grab the Letter on the Wind spray and the Nihon Hanzo Epic Skin if they missed out on the previous campaign.

Do note that watch time and progress after the first campaign ends will be reset.

The new Runasapi map

Season 11 will introduce a new Push map called Runasapi set in a town secluded in the Peruvian Andes mountains. Players will need to keep a close eye out for enemy ambushes as they escort the TS-1 payload to the finish line as this map will contain many tight streets to navigate through and steep cliffs perfect for snipers to position themselves at.

This map will be available to play on June 20, 2024, and be featured in Quick and Competitive game modes.

In addition, the layout of the Colosseo map will be reworked in Season 11.

New and returning Game Modes

When Season 11 launches on June 20, 2024, it will bring back the Community Crafted mode in the arcade. In this mode, Overwatch 2 content creators will rebalance the Heroes of Overwatch with all kinds of hitscans tweaks, new tricks, and many more surprises that will completely alter their playstyles for a new experience.

On July 15, 2025, there will be a new game mode for Quickplay called Hacked. In this mode, players will be able to choose new passive abilities for their heroes based on their role and even upgrade them to gain an edge in battle.

New Hero Mastery missions

Season 11 will host new single-player Hero Mastery missions for Kiriko and Soldier 76. Players who complete the missions will earn a bunch of rewards including 22,500 Battle Pass XP.

These Hero Mastery Missions will last from June 20, 2024, to July 9, 2024.

Overwatch X Transformers & Summer Games 2024

By far the most shocking announcement is that on July 9, 2024, Overwatch 2 will be hosting a crossover event in collaboration with the Transformers franchise. Details on this crossover are currently a mystery but judging from Overwatch 2's previous collaborations with One Punch Man and Cowboy Bebop, it will likely involve giving the Overwatch characters Transformer-themed skins.

In addition, Overwatch 2's Summers Games 2024 seasonal event will be begin on July 9, 2024 where players can take part in sports-themed game modes to earn Lifeguard skins for various Overwatch heroes.

The nostalgia is too tempting for me to ignore in this season of Overwatch 2

Personally speaking, I decided to move on Blizzard's long-running hero shooter after many years of playing as I eventually got tired of it despite how fun it is slicing enemies with Genji or blasting them in the face as Reaper. However, this latest season of Overwatch 2 which is combining both Power Rangers and Transformers might just entice me to come out of retirement.

I loved watching Power Rangers growing up as a kid so seeing the heroes of Overwatch dress up in Power Rangers-inspired attire and Ashe donning a Mythic skin that's a direct homage to Power Rangers' iconic villain Rita Repulsa, is ticking my nostalgia funny bones. Not to mention this is oddly good timing considering the resurgence of Power Rangers in videogames with recent announcements of the Ark Survival x Power Rangers collaboration and the new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers game announced at Summer Game Fest .

As for the Transformers collaboration, I'm even more hyped for that because I spent almost my entire childhood watching every episode of the original 1980s Transformers cartoon, the 1990s sequel series Beast Wars, and convincing my parents to buy any Transformers we could find. I can just imagine what kind of skins they might come for this event – like an Optimus Prime skin for Reinhardt or a Starscream skin for Pharah.

Fortunately, we won't have to wait to find out as the next season for one of Blizzard Entertainment's best Xbox games begins on June 20, 2024.

Season 11 of Overwatch 2 starts this week and while there's no new hero to check out this time around, there's a lot to look forward to when the festivities get underway on June 20. You can expect a new map, a major overhaul of an existing map, balance changes, fresh skins galore, a brand-new Mythic cosmetic and much more.

There's quite a bit to go over, so let's jam through the headlines of what to expect from Season 11 of Overwatch 2:

Overwatch 2 Season 11 Battle Pass Theme

The theme of Overwatch 2 Season 11 is Super Mega Ultrawatch. It's basically like a Saturday morning kids show has been injected into the game. Many of the skins and cosmetics seem inspired by '90s shows like Power Rangers and VR Troopers. I'll be honest, this speaks to me more than a Cowboy Bebop or Porsche crossover.

To that end, Blizzard has all but confirmed that a Transformers crossover will be taking place later this season. The Season 11 roadmap noted that a new collaboration will start on July 9 and it included an Autobot logo. So yeah, Transformers skins, other cosmetics and possibly an event are coming to Overwatch 2 in a few weeks.

Meet the billionaire owner behind the nba champion boston celtics, wwe raw results winners and grades as bray wyatt stable debuts, battle pass cosmetics and other skins.

  • The Season 11 Mythic skin is Calamity Empress Ashe. She's effectively the villain of Super Mega Ultrawatch. The skin's special effects include a summoning circle and magic rune when she deploys B.O.B. You can unlock the base Mythic skin with 50 Mythic Prisms, and unlock three further stages of customization for 10 Prisms each.
  • There's a new type of Mythic cosmetic coming this season in the form of Mythic weapon skins. You can read more about that here:
  • There will be more fun lifeguard skins to add to existing ones for the likes of Cassidy, Pharah and Mercy. An Epic Lifeguard Lucio skin will be in the Battle Pass. Lifeguard skins for Junkrat, Kiriko, Lifeweaver and Roadhog will also be available.

Overwatch 2 Season 11 lifeguard Battle Pass skins.

  • Five Legendary skins will be available in the Premium Battle Pass, including Ultrawatch Legendary skins for Genji, Reaper and Sojourn.
  • The free Battle Pass will include 500 Credits and some cosmetics. The Premium Battle Pass adds two extra Epic skins, 600 Coins, 1,500 extra Credits, 80 Mythic Prisms, five Legendary skins, Lifeguard Lucio and much more.
  • Opt for the Ultimate Battle Pass and not only will you get the Premium Battle Pass and 20 tier skips, you'll receive 2,000 Overwatch Coins along with Legendary Kaiju Roadhog and Kaiju Zenyatta skins.
  • Free Sombra skin — when Season 11 starts, you can take part in a string of event challenges. These will earn you up to 40,000 Battle Pass XP. If you play 40 games (with wins counting as double), you'll get an Aztec Sombra bundle with an Epic skin, name card, and spray.
  • Transformers crossover — we don't know the details of this yet, but I wager there will be between two and five Transformer crossover skins for you to buy
  • Pink Mercy — at long, long last, Overwatch 2 fans will have another chance to buy the iconic Pink Mercy skin and help raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. There will be a new Rose Gold Mercy bundle to benefit the charity too. Read more about that here:

Overwatch 2 Season 11 Map Updates

Season 11 will bring a new Push map to Overwatch 2, as we learned from a Developer Update in March . It's called Runapasi and it should shed some light (so to speak) on Illari and her culture, since it's set in the Peruvian Andes.

"This map features tight streets and nods to the local culture, including the Inti Warrior Historical Museum and Monument," Blizzard says. The map will be available in both Quick Play and Competitive when Season 11 gets underway this week.

Meanwhile, there are some significant changes on the way for Colosseo, one of the original Push maps. The glass barriers next to the TS-1 Push bot's starting point are going away.

Team 4 has created more space around the first checkpoint on each side of the map too. That means it'll be much harder to score environmental kills, while there's a new mega health pack. In addition, there's a new ramp leading up to that little balcony in the room next to the checkpoint. Last but not least, Blizzard has added some extra cover to the final checkpoint.

Other Overwatch 2 Season 11 Updates

  • Hero Mastery — There will be Hero Mastery courses for two more heroes in Season 11: Kiriko and Soldier: 76. Complete Hero Mastery event challenges between June 20 and July 9 and you can snag up to 22,500 Battle Pass XP.
  • We'll need to wait for the Season 11 patch notes to get a full understanding of all the balance changes, but one thing we do know is that Cassidy is losing his Magnetic Grenade and getting a revamped Flashbang back.
  • Weekly Challenges — starting in season 11, you'll be able to catch up on a previous week's challenges if you miss them before starting to progress on the current week's challenges. If you complete three weekly challenges, you'll get 20,000 Battle Pass XP.
  • Community Crafted mode — this mode is coming back to the Arcade on June 20. Several Overwatch creators have come up with wild and wacky balance changes for all of the heroes.

Phew. I'm excited to dive into the new season when it starts this Thursday.

Supposed season 11 "leaks"

I saw on reddit that some supposed changes in season 11 were “leaked”. My opinion on:

  • Player lying, trying to pass himself off as a dev, inventing absurd things.
  • Mirrorwatch type game mode.

Even more so since season 11 has this superhero theme (I don’t know the original series that season 11 is from, these animes/series are not common in Brazil), but everything indicates that it is an arcade mode like Mirrorwatch, since , was quite successful and a lot of fun, as well as being an excellent way to promote the skins.

I’m OBVIOUSLY not going to post the changes here on the forum (because I don’t want to be banned), there are some profiles on Tiktok and Twitter reposting these changes.

From my own experience, I would say that if these changes came to quickplay/comp they would be absurdly good, they would be a very good balance. But it really is going to be an arcade mode.

All I can find on Reddit are the remnants of a now-deleted thread, and another thread leaking the latest leaver penalties. I’m not brave enough to risk my account and post the picture of the latter leak, but it involves flooding a leaver’s body with increasingly deadly levels of radiation. It’s plausible.

Yeah was this thread. Cool (unexpected?) changes to many heroes. (eg: mercy rez return to ult, and flying is now secondary ability)

I think these changes may are to an new arcade gamemode like mirrorwatch.

Fake unless it’s the person who also leaked the Mythic shop and Rose Gold Mercy.

I have googled for like 15 minutes now and still don’t know wtf this is about.

I saw on tiktok and tiktok pointed to post in reddit. I could see only mercy change. IDK if its real

You will not be banned and you can post the text, even link if available freely.

OMG i found another tiktok video that published this changes too.

:sob:

4 days ago. Same time in reddit post https://www.tiktok.com/@symmetrawatch/photo/7379191822314163488

Nah, these are 99% fake.

So that’s what I thought. It may even be real, but not in quickplay/comp. Maybe a new arcade mode

Under the Symmetra rework it says

Secondary fire damage reduced from 120 to 80

It’s not even at 120 right now, it’s at 100.

And are we sure they’d actually bring back Mass Rez?

A lot of these changes just don’t seem real at all.

Side note: It says Mass Rez revives up to 5 team members, which I found a bit odd.

Found post link by the way https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/1deenmz/alleged_leaked_patch_notes_for_s11/

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it’s not real. That was just a screenshot of the patch notes from the creators card a couple years back.

Check Feb 10, 2022 Mercy experimental. Is this what you saw?

Its weird i cannot see Feb 10, 2022. Last patch note in Experimental page, only show 18 Feb, 2022. (Nevermind i was searching for 20 Feb lmao)

OOHH YES, I SAW now 10 Feb, 2022.

Lol its literally same screenshots by the reddit author. Definitely S11 supposed leaks are fake.

While they’re certainly fake, the patch notes we get frequently show this level of care to details that suggest the devs don’t even know the game lol

Incentives to play Experimental mode

A lot of people seem to be upset at the fact that the game devs are implementing experimental game changes into Quickplay. And the devs stated from the beginning that they did this to get the most feedback since QP is the most played game mode, and not nearly enough people would play Experimental to get proper data

I agree that this is definitely the case, but I have a very simple fix. If you give people a reason to play experimental you’ll get plenty of people playing. And I don’t mean like play 10 games for XP or 1 purple skin. After completing each game in experimental award players with white ow coins, like comp points in comp. Say 5 per game, which I think is a reasonable number. And don’t add a cap to how much you earn, this would make sure people continue to play the game mode for the entire weekend.

Let’s say average match times are 10 minutes. 5 white coins per 10 minutes is 30 an hour. And if you grind for 12 hours you get 360. If you do that for 3 days (the duration of the event) you’ll have 1080 coins. This isn’t enough for a legendary skin so I feel it’s fair. And if you host these experimental events every few weeks people will play a ton to save up coins for skins. Even if they wanna reduce it to like 3 coins or something idc, people will play if you reward them with something worth their time.

I feel like this is the best fix, you’ve also gotta make sure the more casual players understand the game mode is there and what the rewards are. Advertise it on the main menu with a big ol neon sign or something

Patch Notes

Past experiments, overwatch experimental patch notes – march 23, 2021, experimental bug fix update.

These bug fixes are intended to address some issues in the current experiment. This will not affect other game modes.

  • Fixed a bug causing Genji to only gain one additional second of Dragonblade after killing multiple enemies in a single strike
  • Fixed a bug causing some heroes to become unable to move if Lúcio uses Crossfade to boost their speed, switches heroes, then switches back to Lúcio

This experiment is intended for use during the Overwatch League Experimental Card Tournament and for you to try out these player-suggested changes yourselves – there are no plans to implement these changes outside of this experimental card.

Overwatch Experimental Patch Notes – March 4, 2021

The next experiment begins! This time we're hoping to get your feedback on some balance changes. We're using the 2-2-2 Role Queue ruleset so that you can get a feel for how these balance changes might affect the live game.

We're increasing Genji's Shuriken fire rate to enable him to have more impact outside of his ultimate and increasing the cost of Dragonblade to account for the increased damage potential.

  • Recovery lowered from 0.75 to 0.68
  • Ultimate cost increased 15%

A while ago there was a change to make Mei's Cryo-Freeze collision consistent with her Ice Wall, meaning she could no longer be targeted by allies while inside the block of ice. We're increasing her Cryo-Freeze healing rate since she isn't able to be easily healed up by her allies during that time.

experimental game mode overwatch 2

  • Healing-per-second increased from 37.5 to 50

The intent for Pharah's Hover Jet fuel adjustments is to find a balance where it enables her to maintain an altitude reasonably well with careful fuel and cooldown management, but not so easily climb to the extreme heights some map ceilings allow for as it can lead to less interactive gameplay.

  • Hover Jets regeneration rate increased from 35 to 43

The recent adjustment to Reaper's shotguns ended up being less beneficial than intended so we're increasing the damage per projectile slightly.

experimental game mode overwatch 2

  • Damage per projectile increased from 5.5 to 6

experimental game mode overwatch 2

While the previous cooldown increase for Experimental Barrier had the intended effect of opening up more counterplay, there may be a tuning value that feels less restrictive for Sigma and still achieves those goals.

experimental game mode overwatch 2

  • Cooldown reduced from 2.5 to 2.0 seconds

Zarya has been overperforming in a variety of team compositions so the increased drain rate will bring her average energy level down slightly between engagements.

  • Energy drain rate increased from 1.6 to 1.8 per second

Experiments

The Experimental Mode allows players to try out potential new balance updates, game modes, and rule changes. The content within this mode is not guaranteed to be released and the mode may not always be available.

Overwatch 2 Season 11 overview: Pink Mercy, new Mythics and more

Josh broadwell | jun 17, 2024.

experimental game mode overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 Season 11 is just around the corner, and Blizzard gave a brief overview of what you can expect next in the multiplayer game . Ashe’s first Mythic-grade skin headlines the new season’s battle pass, along with legendary skins for Genji and Soujourn, and the game’s first Mythic weapon skin, set to debut later in the season. Overwatch 2’s Community Made mode is back, featuring several hero modifiers made by some of the game’s more recognizable streamers, and there’s a limited-time log-in campaign with a free Sombra bundle at the end of it.

Blizzard has a lot in store, and to help you keep up with it, we’ve broken down everything new in Overwatch 2 Season 11 below.

Overwatch 2 Season 11: New Mythic skins

The spotlight is on Ashe’s first Mythic this season, Mythic Calamity Empress Ashe, which sees the crack shot don an imposing golden mask and swap her traditional shotgun for something spikier, and she also removes most of her clothes… for reasons I guess? Bit weird, but anyway, Ashe’s Mythic skin comes with some flashy new effects when you cast her ultimate. You can unlock it with 50 Mythic Prisms – part of Overwatch 2’s recent skin unlock update – and then spend more Prisms on its different color options, if you want.

Ashe in her new Overwatch 2 Season 11 Mythic skin

The mid-season update will add the first Overwatch 2 Mythic weapon skin, and it’s a demon-inspired hammer for Reinhardt. And if none of these grab your interest, you can always spend those Mythic Prisms in the shop on skins from previous seasons.

Overwatch 2 Season 11: Log-in challenges and rewards

Blizzard is hosting a log-in event to encourage you to stay in the game, with a limited-time set of challenges. Playing 40 matches will earn up to 40,000 XP for the season’s battle pass, and you’ll get the Aztec Sombra bundle for free as well. Matches your team wins count as two matches, so if you want to clear it quickly, then, y’know, don’t lose.

Overwatch 2 Season 11: Battle pass rewards

Blizzard hasn’t outlined what to expect in the full premium battle pass just yet, but the team did give a short preview of what’s in store. You can get five legendary skins – including one for Reaper, Sojourn, and Genji – up to 80 Mythic Prisms, assuming you complete the pass, a free lifeguard skin for Lucio, and 500 store credits.

A selection of Overwatch 2 Season 11's battle pass skins

You also get all the stuff from the free track, including:

  • Two additional epic-grade skins
  • 1,500 credits
  • 600 Overwatch Coins

There’s also an Ultimate Bundle that gets you 20 tier skips, a Zenyatta skin, a Roadhog skin, and 2,000 Overwatch Coins. It’s not a terrible deal if you really like all those things, but it does cost a fair bit more than the premium battle pass.

Overwatch 2 Season 11: Community Crafted and Pink Mercy Skin

Blizzard is bringing back the Community Crafted event, an arcade mode featuring modifications to skills, hitboxes, and other definitely-never-going-to-be-permanent changes that some of Overwatch 2’s streamers came up with.  They're quirkier than Blizzard's quick-play tests , so have fun with them while you can.

Starting June 25, 2024, Blizzard is also bringing back the Pink Mercy skin and a Rose Gold Mercy variant, and the company promises to donate all proceeds – excluding taxes and platform fees – to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Porsche D.Va is fine, but Pink Mercy is the kind of collaboration we like to see.

Overwatch 2 Season 11: New Push map

Push mode is (finally!) getting a new map: Runapasi. It’s set in a packed marketplace town nestled high in the Andes Mountains, so expect plenty of narrow streets, obstacles, and even a few cliff edges to keep you on your toes.

Overwatch 2 Season 11 goes live on June 20, 2024, for PC and consoles.
