How to apply for a PhD programme

PhD Programmes attendance at the University of Bologna is conditional upon passing an examination. The provisions governing the selection procedure are laid down in the Call for applications and its attachments.

Who can apply

• a graduate (second-cycle degree or single-cycle degree programme) of the University of Bologna or of another Italian or foreign university.
• an undergraduate (second-cycle degree or single-cycle degree programme) of the University of Bologna or of another Italian or foreign university and will graduate by the starting date of the PhD programme.

Call for Applications

The new Call for Applications for the admission in the PhD programmes [.pdf 758 KB]  - A.Y. 2024/2025 is now open . Applications may be submitted before June 17th, 2024 at midnight .

• Read carefully the Call for Applications [.pdf 758 KB] and the PhD programme table, that you can download from the webpage of the PhD programme you wish to apply for
• Find the list of the documents required for your application in the PhD programme table

The  Call for Applications for the admission in the PhD programmes in Economics, Management, Political and Social Sciences [.pdf 706 KB]  - A.Y. 2024/2025 has expired. It is not possible to submit your application anymore. Selection procedures are now in progress. If you have already submitted your application, you can follow the selection process on your Studenti Online personal page. The final ranking list will be published on the specific webpage of the PhD programme.

A new Call for applications for further PhD positions funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) will be published in July 2024. The new Call will only concern  PhD programmes for which further positions become available .

Before applying

The application must be submitted using the Studenti Online website only . If you are using it for the first time, you will be required to register submitting your personal data.

If you are registered in Studenti Online , you can use the credentials you are already in possession of. If the credentials have not been used for a long time, an account recovery procedure is available on the University website.

Keep in mind that who has participated even once to a selection procedure or has been enrolled in an academic programme at the University of Bologna, is already in possession of the credentials [email protected] . A new registration with the same anagraphic data will not be possible . In this case, the recovery procedure of the previous credentials is required. It is therefore advisable to start your application process well in advance of the deadline .

Submit the application

• Log in  Studenti Online
• Select "Admission application", then "PhD programme" and "Next"
• Select the PhD programme you intend to apply for
• Fill in the online application form and upload the documents
• Remember to pay the €5 admission fee, before the deadline, using the PagoPA system only ( check the Pago PA system user manual [.pdf 314 KB] ).
• Click on "Submit"

Applications that have been filled in but not submitted by the deadline of the call will be rejected.

Other opportunities

For the A.Y. 2024/2025 a new Call for Applications for the admission in the International PhD College will be published. The Call will be addressed to particularly motivated and deserving students successfully admitted to a PhD programme among those of the 40th cycle offered by the University of Bologna.

The International PhD College (I-PHD) is a community of Italian and international PhD students from different study areas and represents the third cycle degree programme of the Collegio Superiore – University of Bologna. PhD students joining the International PhD College may be assigned a contribution for accomodation and must integrate the research activity required by their PhD programmes with interdisciplinary and international training and “coworking” activities on crosscutting themes.

Extra-quota positions

If you’ve been awarded a scholarship funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation MAECI  or by other Institutions in your Country of origin, and you’ve successfully passed the selection procedure as an eligible applicant, you shall be entitled to an extra-quota position. In order to obtain this possibility, please, submit an official document attesting your scholarship awarding.

Gujarat University admission 2024 will begin soon.  Gujarat University offers Ph.D. degrees in 23 different streams associated with different study departments. The college offers three types of Ph.D. namely, full-time, part-time, and independent research. A full-time research program includes the student’s presence, the complete time towards the course. The applicants who are employed with some profession enroll for a part-time research program for Ph.D. completion.

• The applicant must hold a Master's degree in the relevant field for which he is applying for a Ph.D. with at least 55% of marks.
• Duration varies from 2-3 Years

Gujarat University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Ph.D from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad is:

• The masters’ degree should be from an equivalent and recognized University.
• Any applicant who doesn’t hold an Indian degree must also score at least 55% from any internationally recognized University.
• Admission to the Ph.D program is based on merits obtained from the entrance exam.

The total number of student’s intake for a Ph.D. should be decided by the University and will be notified to the applicants on the official website of Gujarat University.

• The application forms are available online from the first week of May on the official website of the university www.gujarat university.ac.in.
• Collect a 14-digit pin distributed by the university at their venue before filling out the admission form.
• You will have to submit this pin and personal details at the login window in order to register and fill out the admission form of Gujarat University.
• The entrance exam is based on the particulars of a subject, a candidate is applying for.
• The decided stipulated number of applicants will be confirmed as admitted according to the merit list of the exam.
• The merit lists will be declared online on the college’s website.
• After the name appears in the merit list, the applicant would be officially registered to the University.
• After the clearance mail by RDC, the applicant’s admission is finalized In Gujarat University for Ph.D.

Gujarat University Ph.D. Course Details

The Gujarat University includes a syllabus approved by UGC and Government board for the candidates. The different specializations include different syllabus accordingly. The record of the syllabus and subjects will be provided to the applicant during the time of registration.

• The decision on the subject and syllabus varies according to the Ph.D. ordinance. 
• The intake of a particular course, eligibility criteria and fee structure also varies according to the Ph.D. ordinance.

The Ph.D research exam at Gujarat University includes the Research paper presentation. The process of paper shall be submitted to the RDC and faculty every six months. RDC will have a complete overview of the paper during the final year of a course. After the process of research, the student needs to prepare a thesis regarding the same paper and submit it to RDC.

The fee structure varies according to the Ph.D ordinance.

Actually, when a student gets the admission to the PhD then, they will also have the option to give NETJRF examination to get schlorship. And government will provide a stipend of Rs. 20000-35000 (depending upon the course) every month. So, instead of giving the fee a student will get paid for doing the PhD.

Gujarat University B.Ed has been concluded for the academic year 2023-24.

No, B.Ed course is not free and the total fee is INR 60,000 for 2 years.

B.Ed course is available in the college but not in distance mode.

The total course fee for the MA Linguistics course is INR 60000. Students are required to pay an annual fee of INR 30000 for two years. If you have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks, you are elgiible to apply for admisison to this course.

GU offers M.Com General, M.Com Advanced Accountancy, and M.Com Financial Services. The total course fee for these courses is INR 36000. Students pursuing these courses must pay a sum of INR 18000 annually.

There is no exact information on when the university will release the admission notice for the Ph.D in Law course. The registration process is expected to start once the admission process for UG and PG courses has been completed.

The fees for the Master of Science [M.Sc.] (Information Technology) can be anywhere between INR 1,80,000 – INR 2,00,000 for the duration of 2 years which includes various charges such as examination fees, security deposit, college development fund, and other miscellaneous charges.

IGNOU PhD 2024: Highlights

It is to inform all candidates that both category students have to attend the classes at the allotted centre to accomplish their course work given by the university. The student must have 80% attendance in the course work to be eligible for the term-end examination.

How to Apply for IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2024?

• Students can easily apply for Ph.D. Entrance Examination through online mode. Interested candidates have to click on the given application link and then click on the “Online Application Form” link for Ph.D. July 2023. After the click, you will go to the registration section where you have to click on New Registration to begin your registration procedure.
• Candidates have to fill all sections including the Registration and Application Form without any spelling mistakes
• Once you fill in the above details, it is mandatory to upload your recent passport-size scanned photograph and digital signature. A scanned photograph must be less than 200 KB in size and Signature must be less than 30 KB. After uploading, you have to re-verify your application with all the details that you provided to the university before submitting it. You can also get a print of your Application form before proceeding with payment.
• After checking your application, candidates have to pay their application fee by online mode. After completion of payment, you will get a payment receipt so keep it safe with you for any future reference.
• After successful payment, you will receive a notification or confirmation via SMS or through your registered email ID. If you didn’t get any confirmation then, please contact the IGNOU Ph.D. support team as fast as possible.
• Candidates have to note down their Application Number to login into the Ph.D. entrance portal to download their Admit Card and Result in the future.

It is compulsory to register yourself to fill out your application form online. Once you have paid your fees for the entrance exam will not be refundable to the candidate in any circumstances. There are no documents to needed submit while filling out an application form for Ph.D.  All original documents will have to be produced at the time of the Interview taken by the university.

IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam Structure 2024

We can understand that many of the students are confused regarding the syllabus and structure of the Ph.D. Entrance Examination. IGNOU PhD Courses List 2024

IGNOU PhD means Doctor of Philosophy and is also called a Doctorate Degree. PhD is the highest level of academic degree which is awarded to students by the university at the time of IGNOU Convocation.

The eligibility for a PhD degree varies in each discipline. The candidate will be called a doctoral candidate or a PhD candidate during their studies and coursework. The project, dissertation, or other research work may be required to earn PhD degree. The time duration of a PhD depends on a program selected but generally, it falls between 3 to 6 years.

Generally, a master’s degree is required to apply for a PhD and professional experience is also required for some of the courses. Candidates have to appear in the IGNOU PhD entrance examination to take admission to their selected subject or field. A merit list of selected candidates will be prepared only after the performance of students in the entrance examination.

Online Application form for Ph.D. programme through JNU Entrance Examination for the Academic Session 2022-23 has started

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.

Instructions pertaining to Reservation of Seats, Fees, general eligibility criteria and Exam pattern for PhD Entrance Test – 2023

• Submission of application for PhD Programme will be online only. The candidate can only apply for one Programme as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
• Application Fee for  submission of online application is  Rs 1000.  
• Application fee is  non-refundable.
• The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes and DOPT,Govt of India .norms amended from time to time.  Appendix II of the Information Brochure  may be referred in this regard. 
• No request for   change in reservation category,   shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
• Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong (Ref.Annexure II of Information Brochure 2023).
• Candidates awarded with fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, as per the validity specified by the regulatory bodies, shall be exempted from Entrance Test and their selection will be based on interview. These candidates shall be considered as Category- A. Such candidates have to upload their valid fellowship award letter from the concerned implementing / awarding agency.
• For Category A Candidates , interview shall carry 100% weightage. All eligible candidates from Category A will be called for the interview.
• For Category B Candidates , the Entrance Test shall carry a weightage of 70% and 30% weightage shall be given to the interview. Those who secure at least 50% marks in the Entrance Test (45% marks in case of SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons and EWS) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats.

Stage II: Interview:

• Eligible candidates from Category A & Category B shall be called for interview before the Discipline Specific Admission committee. Information in this regard shall be uploaded on the University website. The respective disciplines/ schools will communicate regarding the requirement for the interview.
• The interview shall have three components comprising Research Methodology (40%) Subject domain (40%) and Communication Skills (20%).
• Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.
• A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, on the fulfillment of the following conditions :
• Candidates who have completed:
• A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

In case, a candidate does not meet these minimum eligibility criteria and appears in the written examination, it is at the candidate’s own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the minimum eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.

• a) The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022 comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on specific subject. The syllabus for each discipline is annexed at Appendix III of information brochure.
• b)  The question paper shall have questions consisting of  50% on research methodology and 50% on specific subject .

Financial Assistance

Full-time PhD students admitted into the PhD program are eligible to be considered for an Institute fellowship of Rs. 34,000 or Rs. 37,000 per month in the first year based on their qualifications at the time of admission. Students admitted with M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm./MBA/M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree are eligible to receive an Institute fellowship of Rs. 37,000/-. Students admitted with M.Sc./B.E./B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree are eligible to receive an Institute fellowship of Rs. 34,000/-. These students on successful completion of coursework will receive Rs. 37,000/- from the Semester following the one in which the course work was completed Higher fellowship may be made available in subsequent years. Consideration for Institute fellowship will be as per Institute norms. It will be obligatory on the part of every admitted full time student to undertake 8 hours (per week) of work as assigned to him/her by the institute.

Jamia Millia Islamia PhD Admission 2023-24 Eligibility Criteria

• A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. must have obtained a Master’s Degree with not less than 55% of marks in aggregate or its equivalent Grade ‘B’ in the UGC seven point scale (or equivalent CGPA wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a Foreign University/institute or a Degree recognized by the University as its equivalent in the subject/allied subject in which the candidate wishes to pursue a course of research or in a subject allied thereto.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade/CGPA, may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non- creamy layer)/Differently-abled or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
• Candidate possessing an M.Phil. degree with 55% marks from a recognized Indian University/Institute of minimum two semesters or its equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institute (for the direct Ph.D. programme). Provided the candidate has done M.Phil. degree in the same subject as per UGC norms.

Selection Procedure

• All Ph.D. applicants shall be admitted through an Entrance Test conducted at University level followed by Interview at the level of individual Department/Centre/Faculty concerned. The short listed applicants from entrance and exempted categories shall be called for interview.
• Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/AYUSH-NET/JRF examination (in the relevant area of research and it shall be examined by the concerned DRC/CRC) or any other equivalent examination conducted by the recognized Governmental Department/ Institute/ Agency/ SLET/ valid GATE score (with qualifying marks).
• The teacher fellowship holders such as QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) awardees of recognized colleges/ universities/ institutions, provided that the competent authority issues a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) to the candidate to join the Ph.D. Programme and applicant must pass any type of test to avail the exemption.
• ICCR- Sponsored candidates, DST-INSPIRE or any other equivalent fellowship holder.

Entrance Test Details

(Last Time entrance details)

• The entrance test for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall be in English, except in the language departments, which may set the question paper in the concerned language.
• The entrance test shall be based on two question papers: Paper ‘I’ and ‘II’ of equal weightage and each of two hours duration.
• The Paper ‘I’ shall include 100 multiple choice (objective type) questions of one mark each on research methodology and shall be common to all applicants for admission to the Ph.D. programme at the level of each Faculty and the associated centres.
• The Paper ‘II’ of the entrance test shall deal with the advanced knowledge of the subject concerned. It shall have a weightage of 100 marks out of which 50 marks shall be assigned to 50 multiple choice (objective type) questions of one mark each and a set of subjective type questions having a weightage of another 50 marks.
• Criterion to Qualify the Entrance Test: Only those candidates who obtain at least 50 per cent marks in aggregate shall qualify for the interview
• Shortlisted candidates: The list of qualified candidates to be called for interview shall be prepared by concerned Department/Centre/Faculty, which shall also include the candidates who have been exempted from entrance test.

Interview and Provisional Registration in PhD Programme

• The shortlisted candidates shall be called for interview by the concerned Department/Centre/Faculty. The candidates called for interview have to bring original documents for the verification at the time of interview. They will be required to discuss their broad research interest/area, through a presentation, before the concerned DRC/CRC.
• For selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in the interview/viva-voce shall be given.
