மேலும் Instagram, Messenger, Viber, Whatsapp என பல்வகையான வலைத்தளங்கள் உருவாகி மனித சமூகத்தை வேறொரு பரிநாமத்துக்கு கொண்டு சென்றிருக்கின்றது.

அன்றாட வாழ்வில் நாம் உணவு தண்ணீரை தவிர்க்க முடியாததை போலவே சமூக வலைத்தளங்களது பாவனையும் தவிர்க்க முடியாத ஒன்றாக இருக்கிறது.

நண்பர்கள், உறவுகள் எவ்வளவு துரமாக இருந்தாலும் அவற்றினை மனதுக்கு நெருக்கமாக மாற்றுகின்றது சமூக வலைத்தளங்கள்.

கடல் கடந்து, தேசம் கடந்து, மனிதம் என்ற உணர்வில் பல நண்பர்களை இது உருவாக்கி இருக்கின்றது.

செல்ல முடியாத நாடுகளில் உள்ள மக்களின் வாழ்க்கை முறை, கலாச்சாரம், பண்பாடு போன்றவற்றை பார்க்க முடிகிறது.

நல்ல கலை வடிவங்கள், படைப்புக்கள், புத்தகங்களை இருந்த இடத்தில் இருந்தே பார்க்க முடிகிறது.

இணைய வழியில் வீட்டில் இருந்தபடியே விரும்பியவர்களிடம் கல்வி கற்கமுடிகிறது. தேவையான தகவல்களை தேடவும் முடிகிறது.

இந்த அசாதாரணமான காலகட்டங்களில் வீட்டில் இருந்தே வேலை பார்க்கவும் முடிகிறது.

The aim of the paper is to bring to light the possibility of spreading Tamil knowledge among the next generation using a medium that is more attractive and familiar to them.

This article focuses on the Tamil diaspora in the context of virtual networks. Contemporary linkages stem from decades of civil unrest within Sri Lanka. The Tamil community has found much unity in perceived injustices and marginalization following a violent mass exodus during the 1980s. Quests for political validation and statehood in North-East Sri Lanka have transferred to virtual platforms. Subsequent networks are both sophisticated and dynamic, proactively transcending borders, propelling transnational linkages forward. Between the virtual and physical, the article investigates how respective communities network and expand online. This includes mapping online activities, which characteristically focus on current affairs and ground realities. Indeed, the Web provides a platform of engagement, which in a quest for legitimacy has expanded the networked opportunities available for the greater Tamil diaspora. Technology has made considerable advancements over the last few decades. With over 70 million native speakers, Tamil could be classified as a world language. There have been researches specifically on the attitude of native Tamil speakers towards Tamil language and within the domain of Tamil computing. The predominantly native Tamil speaking regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry within the Indian Union, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia have had a colonial past. The history of Tamil language is of a pretty long period. This language was patronized by the three Sangams; it has been origin of many languages, and the most ancient language and among the living languages in the world; and now in the twenty first century, through delayed, it has been recognized as a classical language. It is quit nature, when people speak to the people of a different speech community they use code mix. The object of this research paper is to study and describe as to how change in language or code mix in the use of the people crop up from time to time, to identify with a historical basis the words of other languages that are prevalent in modern Tamil, and to find the opportunity to improve the vocabulary by coining new words for the scientific and social needs particularly for the new inventions. The Language in the Beginning The first treatise or book now available to us is only a grammar book. It treats the usages of words and prescribes the rules of the language. Tholkapiyam tells that people of our country were multilingual, and hence the lexis in Tamil were categorically given as iyarcol, tiricol, ticaicol, and vadacol. May foreign words have been borrowed to Tamil. Moreover, a language will have same changes from time to time, and after certain period, some words may be archaic, so the people of modern period have to depend on the commentary given by the commentators to read and learn the literature of Sangam period. The words used by the administrators The foreign invasions, aggrandizements, domination of other milers seriously affected the people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, their language, their culture, etc, during the region of the Mohals, the Portiguese, the French, the British, the language of people attained a mixed one. Even after years have passed, the vocabulary borrowed from urban, Portiguse, French and English have become the part of our fridian language in general and of Tamil in particular.

Taminglish is a reality now. English teachers in Tamil society are made to feel guilty about what they are being accused of doing as a profession—the teaching of English as " a neo-imperialistic language(!) " to Tamil learners of English at different levels. Politicians and Tamil activists alike raise a lot of hue and cry against the mixing of English in the daily Tamil discourses. They often fail to understand a linguistic fact that changes on account of language contact do not amount to corruption but enrichment of the languages involved and that change is natural and inevitable in the history and development of any language. Changes happen neither for worse nor for better. They come from inside and from outside the language. However, 'Tamil lovers' would like to artificially maintain the classical status of Tamil even now when Tamil society has irretrievably become a bilingual and bi-cultural community. One of the psychological impacts of such a political project of preserving the purity of Tamil on English teaching community is that they refuse to accept the bilingual method of teaching English without any professional basis. The process of language development has always been independent of human intervention and therefore, Tamil is firmly entering a new phase of its development, which in this article, is termed as " Taminglish. " Through a recent order, the government of India has instructed all its employees to follow 'Hinglish' in the Devanagiri script for official communication. Tamil has already permitted hundreds of English words and set expressions both in oral and written discourses. This paper interrogates diachronically and longitudinally the history behind the evolution of the phenomenon called 'Taminglish,' a process of code-mixing/switching in Tamil/English discourse, and establishes that English teachers need not feel guilty about this linguistic hybridity.

This paper is a contribution to an anthropology of aurality in Tamil Nādu. Using a sociolinguistic approach to performance, I shall argue that contemporary low caste performers in Tamil Nādu are part of a discursive tradition that dates back to Caṅkam times in order to show how this tradition, the dialogue between the art of writing and the practice of speech, is actually a feeling in Tamil that affects the concept of locality in Tamil. This feeling, or spoken Tamil, is a kind of aural competence. In performance, it is a way of speaking with writing in mind. In writing, it is that sentiment which demonstrates a kind of ethnographic authority. Caṅkam literature, Bhakti devotion, Tamil nationalism--indeed, the practice of spoken Tamil has been, and continues to be, a mode of organizing people in light of the state. Then and now, spoken Tamil has never been about how people really speak. Rather, it has always been a way of producing citizens by manufacturing aural competence.

“That means that we could position for a real third-party election in 2028, where we don’t have to go around and spend tens of millions of dollars on ballot access, which means that we can spend all of that time and money campaigning,” Shanahan said.

But there’s an entirely different outlook for the Kennedy campaign should they decide to pull out—and, according to Shanahan, it would all be for the benefit of one candidate.

“There’s two options that we’re looking at, and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris and Walz presidency because we draw votes from Trump,” she said. “Or, we walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump.”

That latter option would require explaining to all of Kennedy’s supporters why the alternative political pairing have, after all their efforts, ultimately bent the knee to the two-party system. And while that wouldn’t pave the way for more political representation for everyday Americans, it could translate into administration positions for Kennedy and Shanahan. In fact, Trump already floated the idea in July, pitching that Kennedy—a notorious vaccine skeptic—could lead the Health and Human Services Department should the Republican nominee win in November.

The Terrorgram collective is a network of neo-Nazis and fascists that produces and disseminates right-wing propaganda using Telegram, encouraging acts of far-right terror and sanctifying those who commit them.

The collective runs three main Telegram channels that mix mainstream news coverage with far-right content. The mainstream content gives the channels an air of legitimacy as administrators urge users to join group chats where more violent, extreme ideas are pushed, according to a report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue .

The group has reportedly taken over a channel that is linked to Steve Bannon’s podcast, and markets itself as the “official home of the War Room Posse.” In a corresponding group chat, the channel’s administrator claimed that Bannon himself was involved in running the channel, according to ISD. The administrator has garnered more than 63,000 subscribers, only a few hundred short of the official War Room channel, and the channel’s contents have been shared by white nationalist Charlie Kirk to his nearly 170,000 followers.

The Terrorgram collective disseminates its extremist propaganda to radicalize users and encourage racially charged violence. Nineteen-year-old Juraj Krajčík, who opened fire on people outside a popular LGBTQ bar in Bratislava, Slovakia, in 2022, killing two people and injuring a third, had published a lengthy creed thanking the Terrorgram for “building the future of the White revolution, one publication at a time.” The U.K. government declared the collective a terrorist group in April.

The collective is clearly hoping to tap into Bannon’s audience, pulling the already far-right MAGA movement even further into extremism, and Bannon’s platform represents one ripe for a neo-Nazi takeover.

Bannon, who remains an influential voice on the alt-right, once admitted that he admired Donald Trump because Trump reminded him of Adolf Hitler. In July, the campaign spent over $7 million while raising only $5.6 million, almost half of which came from RFK Jr.’s running mate Nicole Shanahan , a Silicon Valley lawyer and investor.

The campaign’s spending remained high despite a cutback on events, according to Politico. Kennedy has not appeared at any public events since the beginning of July, instead sporadically showing up on podcasts and at conferences. Much of the campaign’s funds have gone towards ballot access, Facebook and Google ads, and a security firm run by a longtime associate.

Even with the help of a partnership with the Libertarian Party, the campaign’s fundraising, despite a slight uptick, hasn’t kept up with spending. The fact that Kennedy seems to be relying on Shanahan’s money more than outside donations suggests that he’s not bringing in a lot of new fans, either.

Kennedy seems to be aware of his diminishing fortunes. Last month, the independent candidate spoke with Donald Trump about getting a White House job in exchange for dropping out of the race and endorsing the convicted felon. Kennedy also reached out to the Kamala Harris campaign with a similar proposition, only to be rebuffed , probably because he might actually help her by staying in the race.

RFK Jr.’s campaign was in trouble even before President Biden stepped aside, with Kennedy failing to qualify for the first presidential debate. There were also a series of damaging revelations, from reports of a worm in his brain to the news that he dumped a bear carcass in Central Park to allegations of sexual assault . With diminished polling, all of this begs the question of what the point of Kennedy’s campaign actually is.

Several Republicans are slated to speak at the Democratic National Convention this week, as Democrats attempt to unify forces against a potential second Trump presidency. But on Tuesday, Democrats announced that they had secured one of Donald Trump’s former communications directors, and she’s expected to make a splash with an endorsement of Trump’s political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham will join the liberal party’s long list of speakers, reported NBC News .

“I never thought I’d be speaking at a Democratic convention. But, after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out,” Grisham told NBC. “While I don’t agree with Vice President Harris on everything, I am proud to be supporting her because I know she will defend our freedoms and represent our nation with honesty and integrity.”

Grisham had served as Melania Trump’s chief of staff and press secretary before briefly joining Trump’s administration in 2019. She was the first member of Trump’s team to resign after the January 6 riot on the U.S. Capitol and has since been an outspoken critic of the former president.

“Jan. 6, of course, was my breaking point,” Grisham told NBC News’s Meet the Press in October 2021.

Last week, Grisham made waves when she wholly dismissed the Trump campaign’s new strategy of mini-rallies and hyper-focused press events in an effort to rein in the bloviating populist’s affinity for rambling, ad hominem attacks on Harris, which don’t seem to be doing him any favors with voters.

“I imagine he will do some of them, and maybe for a week he’ll, you know, attempt to stay on message,” Grisham told CNN . “It depends on how tough his staff is being with him, but he will get bored. He doesn’t like those small events; he never has. And he will be demanding to do a large rally sooner rather than later.”

“They want him to be a fake version of himself,” she added. “Donald Trump is a bombastic narcissist, and he loves attention.”

In a wild right-wing technologist update of Thelma and Louise , it seems that both Donald Trump and Elon Musk have officially driven their respective social media companies off of a cliff. But hey, at least they’re going down together?

Trump’s Truth Social stock appears to be in serious jeopardy, according to a new report from Forbes published Saturday. Next month, Trump—who owns well over 50 percent of the company—and other shareholders will finally be able to sell their shares of the volatile stock, but that puts the stock at risk of collapse.

Earlier this month, Truth Social’s stock value plummeted following Trump’s apparent “return” to X, formerly Twitter. It was so bad that even a booming stock market couldn’t save it. This coincided with a poor second quarter earnings report that found the company lost more than $16 million , and raised just $836,900, down 30 percent from $1.2 million a year earlier. That was still far better than the previous quarterly report, which found that the company lost $327.6 million, and only raised $770,500 in revenue.

Truth Social stock has become particularly risky, because its volatility gives it a high chance of heavy selling as soon as it becomes unlocked in September, according to Forbes . This would only worsen if the board allowed Trump to sell his stocks early, capturing the current price instead of whatever they might drop to on the downward trajectory.

As for Elon Musk’s X, not even Trump returning could give it a much-needed boost. The platform’s billionaire technocrat owner has pulled the social media site into historically bad territory, according to The Wall Street Journal .

Musk acquired X in October 2022 for $44 billion, borrowing $13 billion from several banks, including Morgan Stanley, Barclays, and Bank of America. Those banks have found themselves unable to quickly offload Musk’s debt to other investors, leaving it stuck on their balance sheets, or “hung” in industry terms, straining their loan books and, in one case, even curbing their compensation.

Apparently, Musk’s X loans have been on the books for so long, they’ve outlived every unsold deal since the 2008 financial crisis, according to data from Pitchbook LCD. While there were more hung deals during the crisis, banks were able to sell or write off their hung debt within 12 months after issuing the loan. Not only is X the longest lasting hung deal since 2008, it’s also reportedly one of the biggest.

While the banks have been able to collect a hefty interest, it’s unclear how Musk will ever repay the principal if X continues on its current trajectory. Last year, X reported that its value had plummeted by more than half, to around $19 billion. When the banks formulated a plan to restructure the loan, X didn’t follow through, according to the Journal .

Unfortunately for Musk, X has been unable to fully capitalize on its recent uptick in user engagement, because Musk went out of his way to make an enemy of all advertisers everywhere, suing a group of advertisers who didn’t want to use his platform filled with blatantly pro-Nazi content.

As Musk’s adversarial streak has continued, officials at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, another bank that shelled out money for the acquisition, downgraded the bank’s internal credit rating on his loan, meaning they don’t think it’s likely they’ll get paid back anytime soon.

A spokesman for the bank told the Journal , “MUFG has had several constructive conversations with Mr. Musk and his leadership team. We anticipate reaching a positive outcome regarding repayment.”

While Musk isn’t in the business of robbing banks, he’s getting pretty close to the outlaw life of Thelma and Louise. One thing has become clear: When Trump and Musk started out on their right-wing social media experiments, they thought they were really goin’ somewhere. But this is it. They’re just going.

The number of students seeking mental health assistance was on an uptick well before the pandemic. While there is no definitive causal link, we can certainly hypothesise that societal changes, ubiquitous screen presence, social media , a divisive political climate and the lessened stigma of seeking help are all correlated with the increase in demand seen across the Western world. Then, the pandemic and the racial reckoning brought on by the killing of George Floyd in 2020 exacerbated mental health challenges.

Young people have this feeling that the structures and systems that previous generations could rely on are no longer there to protect them – for example, religious institutions and trust in government just aren’t pillars for this generation.

I believe that this mandates us in university settings to support students’ psychological well-being through comprehensive mental health resources that all students are educated on and can easily access. This should encompass clinics, individual and group counselling, crisis intervention and psychiatric care. At Virginia Tech, we also offer therapy dogs. We need to continue reducing the stigma around seeking help and encourage students to use these resources. And we need to offer tools for students to use not just now, but in their lives going forward.

Given our research-driven university setting, it isn’t surprising that we open the door to technology in mental health practices – the enormous range of opportunities technology offers for mental health treatment has led to a spate of development. For example, brain-imaging techniques combined with algorithms that analyse neural activity can reveal brain differences among people that predict whether a given drug or therapy will relieve their symptoms.

What is the community resiliency model?

During the pandemic, as we were working our way through this collective trauma, I had an epiphany. Some 10 years ago, I’d worked with the community resiliency model ( CRM ) – we call it “krim” – to help people exposed to trauma relieve their anxiety and develop resilience. I realised I’d worked with hundreds of students who would benefit from CRM, leveraging shared language for what they were experiencing. Students tend to ping pong between high-stress hectic activation, then collapse and struggle with doing anything.

Since we all have a nervous system, the fight-flight-freeze sensation is universal. CRM recognises this and offers trauma-informed techniques to help students interrupt unhelpful narratives and recentre themselves. It does this through sharable language in a low-pathology manner with proven results. From a neuro-biological standpoint, many of us don’t take the time to assess how we’re feeling, and we’ve lost the ability to know what “calm” feels like in our body. CRM helps us to return to a zone of comfort. It’s like resetting to a personal homepage.

The science behind the CRM model simplifies the autonomic nervous system, which is what controls our brain and body’s survival response. The autonomic nervous system connects to every major organ in the body and catalyses action in response to threats in both our present moment and threats recalled instantly from our past. CRM teaches the science behind our fight, flight or freeze response through naming the sympathetic nervous system’s fight-or-flight response the “high zone” and the freeze response the “low zone”.

CRM’s genius is to normalise these responses and teach us concrete skills to discover what ease feels like in the body, which we can then use as a compass to help us know what we are working to navigate towards when we get bumped in the “high” or “low” zone. CRM draws attention to sensations of neutrality, ease or calm. Through repetitive practice in using this compass, we can access the brain’s neuroplasticity to rewire towards resiliency.

How we implement CRM

Virginia Tech has about 20 CRM trainers on campus. Some work at Cook Counseling Center, others at living learning centres, still others at the university health programme Hokie Wellness.

We use CRM in many ways:

We offer CRM training upon request to teams or departments.
Students, staff and faculty can all come in to receive individual or group stand-alone training.
All student leaders who work in residence halls are trained and report using the techniques frequently for residents who are in distress.
Campus outreach is infused with CRM-informed language.
We have a CRM e-bike that visits classes and outdoor events to creatively engage students; the trainer piloting the bike serves popsicles to demonstrate how an icy treat can defuse a dysregulated nervous system and hands out fidget spinners.

The future of CRM at Virginia Tech

I am so proud of how we have effectively and proactively become practitioners of trauma-informed treatment at Virginia Tech. I would like us to continue to grow in this area, imbuing all our activities with the end goal of embracing a culture of well-being. I’d also love to see CRM used more widely on the academic side, with faculty leveraging these techniques in teaching and mentoring. CRM can be incredibly valuable in managing students’ wellness and behaviour, increasing their ability to actively learn along the way.
