ESSAY: Being a 21st Century Teacher

Honestly speaking, I can’t fully say that I am passionate and committed as a student teacher and a future educator, because sometimes I doubt myself if I can really achieve this dream of mine to be an educator. I can say that the purpose why I choose this course program is I need to learn and know things about the career I want to have. I love teaching, sharing with others what I know makes me genuinely happy but there’s a time I feel like I don’t see my future self wearing a teacher uniform standing in front of the classroom and teaching my students, I got discouraged when I think too much about my future. I have experienced countless times what our prof shared with us about when you tell to other people you choose education course program and they will say “just education course only” of course I am affected on what they say, I wonder if I choose the right course for me or if I can survive it. However, within the months being a BSEd Student I realized that maybe I can be an educator someday. Being a teacher is not “just being a teacher” it takes a lot of time, knowledge needed to be gain, and determination and passion to fulfill responsibility as a teacher. I am looking forward in the next semester as a student teacher with a positive mindset and believe in myself that I can surpass my college journey with this course program.

In the three lessons that had been discussed with us, I realized and gained new knowledge about on how to become an effective and good teacher, a teacher that can attain teaching and can manage to take the changing way of teaching. It is an advantage for us to be familiarized on what we were taught, we got to know how linkages and networking can be a good use in teaching and it’s capability to facilitate and to properly teach students. Society is changing rapidly as does teaching, I come up with a thought and elaborating in our previous lessons that to be an educator you have to be aware and wise because there is always a possibility of something to happen or situation to be face as a teacher.

Being a future 21st Century Teacher is a bit challenging but exciting for me, with what I learned I imagined myself teaching my students with the knowledge I have and

lesson plan I needed to discuss with them and also them teaching me things I don’t know in that time or their generation. I aspire to be an 21st Century Teacher that have a skills of course in teaching properly but also having a genuine connection with my students where they will feel comfortable and feel free to share what they feel or thoughts they want to share with me. I want my future teaching environment to be free judgement surroundings, respecting each other and everyone’s having a happy day while teaching and learning. To achieve what I want to be, I know that I needed to get used in adjustment on being a teacher, I need to learn how to control my personal feelings without affecting my teaching and never get tired on learning new things and knowledge. Being a teacher means endlessly learning but also knowing how to approach properly and respectfully different people with different background in life.

I chose to be a student teacher because I know I want and love to do this in the future. Base on my experience being a teacher’s assistant/student teacher when I was in grade 10, I really enjoyed what I did back then I loved how my students liked me and learned from me. But as of the moment, I don’t feel much passionate and committed because I think I still lack of skills, knowledge and many more. I know that I am still in 1st year of college and I know that when the time comes I will be very passionate and committed as a student teacher/future educator.
