Having once been students ourselves, we know that all students start off the school year with good intentions of keeping track of assignments and due dates and generally staying ahead of all that is required of them. Inevitably, the workload starts to pile up and there are many small assignments in addition to the bigger tests and projects, and it can be quite difficult to keep tabs on everything .

With quite a few assignments up in the air at any given time multiplied by several subjects, we wanted to create something to help every student keep track of it all. The 12 Free Printable Assignment Trackers you’ll see below are intended to accomplish just that!

In these assignment trackers, you’ll find spaces to write in your specific assignment, the due date, and a space to indicate if it was completed or submitted, amongst other details.

To find the assignment tracker that is just right for you or your student(s) all you need to do is look through the options below, click on the image of the one that you think will work just right, download the PDF file to your computer, and print!

Using Your Planner Printables

• You can download the printables you choose to include in your planner below the following two images.
• Print these onto regular paper using your home printer.
• I have a tutorial on customizing printables like this on my Printable Tags and Labels post .
• I created a slightly offset printable with each sheet...the left margin is larger for hole punching. Use a standard three-hole punch with these to keep them in a binder. 
• Grab a three-hole punch here on Amazon.
• My kids carry those larger, fabric binders (they come with a shoulder strap) to all of their classes. They also keep all of their homework and assignments in these binders. I designed this student planner printable set to be kept inside a binder like that, since they're the go-to for most students these days. However, a traditional three-ring binder would work, too.
• This is the exact binder both of my boys used last year. It's from Amazon. Again, we like the strap feature on it.

Customizing Your Student's Planner

• How to Create a PDF of Handwritten Assignments (Student Guide)

For online assignments that require you to hand write/draw your response, you will need to create an electronic version of your completed work.  If you do not have an photo copier/scanner in your home, you can use your smart phone to take pictures create PDF files for submission.  This article contains instructions for recommended apps, but students should feel free to use the app of their choice.

Scanning Tips

Download an ios scanning app, scan your handwritten assignment, download an android scanning app, submitting scanned pdfs to canvas assignments, submitting scanned pdfs to canvas quizzes.

Follow these tips to get the best scans of your handwritten work:

• Use dark ink on light colored paper.
• When scanning, place your paper on a flat high contrast surface (if your paper is white, rest it on a flat, dark surface).
• Hold your phone directly above your paper as high as you can while maintaining a steady hand.

Scanning Handwritten Assignments on iOS Devices

There are many apps that you can download that will create PDF files for you. One of our recommendations is the Scannable App.

The instructions below are specifically tailored to this tool, but you can feel free to use any app that works for you.

• On your iOS device, go to the App Store .
• Search for and download the Scannable (by Evernote) app.
• On your iOS device, open the Scannable app.
• Before you scan, tap the three dots button from the capture screen and select Settings > File Type > PDF .  
• Return to the main capture screen by tapping the back arrow > Done .
• Hold your phone above each page. The app will automatically scan it as soon as it detects the page.
• When you've scanned all pages, tap the check mark icon.
• If needed, retake your photos.
• You can also refer to the tips at top of this article to optimize for successful scanning.
• Once your PDF is created, enter a name for your file by tapping on the file name next to the PDF icon.
• Email - send the PDF as an attachment to yourself to download and access from other devices, like your laptop or desktop computer.
• Share - upload your PDF to a cloud service like Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, or Google Drive.

Scanning Handwritten Assignments on Android Devices

There are many apps that you can download that will create PDF files for you. One of our recommendations is the Genius Scan App.

• On your Android device, go to the Google Play Store .
• Search for and download the Genius Scan app.
• On your Android device, open Genius Scan .
• Select the camera icon (if you have multiple pages to scan, you can switch to batch mode in the top right corner).
• Hold your phone above each page and tap the spinning circle icon.
• You can also refer to the tips at top of this article to ensure successful scanning.
• Device Memory - save the PDF locally on your Android device.
• A cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive .

To complete the following steps, you will need to make sure that the device / computer you are using has access to the PDF scans that you created following the steps above. If you do not have access on your current device, share the file to your device before you proceed.

• Your instructor may not use the "Assignments" section, in which case use whatever link / access to the assignments your instructor provides.
• Locate the assignment activity where you need to submit your PDF scans and click on the title of the assignment you wish to submit. Click the " Submit Assignment " button.

• If necessary, click the " + Add Another File" link to add additional scans to your submission.
• When you have attached all required files, click the " Submit Assignment " button.

• Log into Canvas, navigating to your Canvas Course, and click into the Quiz activity where you need to upload / share your scanned PDF file.
• On the next screen, click the " Take the Quiz " button.

• When you come to a question that requires a file to be uploaded, you will see an Upload component in the question.  
• Click the " Choose a File " button.
• Navigate to and select your scanned PDF. Then click the " Open " button.
• When you are back on the Quiz, the file will upload and you should see a message saying " Your file has been successfully uploaded ."
• Continue with your quiz, completing all other questions. Click the " Submit " button only when you are totally done with the quiz.

You are viewing Ultra Course View content

To accelerate your grading process, you can download individual students' assessment submissions and view them offline. You can download all or only selected submissions as a single ZIP file. Unzip or expand the file to view the contents. Each submission is saved as a separate file with each student's username.

You can't download group submissions or discussions.

Your TAs, Facilitators, and Graders are also allowed to download assessment submissions.

Items you can download from a submission:

• Content and files that students create and attach in the editor for their submissions.

Items you can't download from a submission:

• Content and files attached to assessment questions. For example, if an assessment has only essay questions, students' answers aren't downloaded.

You can download submissions from the Gradable items or Grades view of the gradebook. For more information, see Ultra Gradebook .

Download Assessment Files page

On the Download Assessment Files page, select the Name or Date column header to sort the submissions.

Select the checkbox next to the Name column to select all submissions or select submissions individually. If you select all, only submissions with files and text provided by students in the editor are included in the ZIP file.

If you allowed multiple attempts, the files for all attempts for each student are included.

• Select Create ZIP File to start the process.
• In the pop-up box, select Send . The file is created in the background and you automatically return to the Submissions list page or Grades view. The process takes a few moments based on the size of the file.

You receive an email and a course message when the ZIP file is ready to download to your computer. On your course's Messages page or in your email, select the Download now link.

If you delete the email and course message with the link to download the file, you have to rerun the download. The ZIP file remains in the system until a routine system cleanup is performed—every 90 days or longer—or until an administrator manually deletes it. Contact your administrator for more information.

Windows and Mac computers have built-in capabilities to view and extract compressed ZIP file packages. To learn more, see the help available for your computer's operating system.

After you unzip the file, a folder appears with files for each submission. Usernames are included automatically in the file names for easy identification.

Files included in the ZIP file

TXT file : If a student used the editor to complete the assessment, the submission text appears in a TXT file. You'll also find information about the submission, such as date submitted. Note : Content and files attached to assessment questions aren't downloaded.

Submission files : If the student uploaded one or more files as the submission, they appear together in the list. For example, a student's submission might include a Word doc, an image file, and a slide presentation. Note : If you allowed multiple attempts, the files for all attempts for each student are included.

Combination : A student can provide text and attach files in the editor to complete the submission.

Download Assignments by Group

Sometimes, an instructor may want to download individual assignment documents by groups they may have placed their students in. This guide shows how the instructor can download the submitted individual assignment documents by group.

Created Fall 2020

STEP  1:  Access your course in Brightspace, then select Assignments from the Activities & Assessments drop-down.

STEP 2:  In the Assignments area, click on the assignment name.

STEP 3:  In the View By drop-down menu, select Groups .  Then, click Apply .

STEP 4:  A new drop-down menu will then appear that will let you specify which group’s papers you would like to download.  Select the group number, then click Apply .

STEP 5:  At the bottom of the page, you will see the submissions from students in that group.  First, click the Select All Rows button.  Then, click Download .

STEP 6:  When the pop-up window appears, click on the link provided to download a zip file.

STEP 7:  Locate the zip file and then right click on the file.  Then, click Extract All .

STEP 8:  Select the destination for the extracted files and click Extract .

STEP 9:  In the destination folder, you will then see a folder for each student in that respective group.

STEP 10:  Open each respective student folder to find their individual submission.

Step 5: Go to the “Page Range” field to set the range of pages you want to split.

The WPS PDF Splitter tool offers two methods:

All Pages within Range: Suitable for dividing the PDF into equal bundles.

Target Pages: Ideal for extracting specific pages.

Step 6: In the “Split Method” field, select your preferred method from the dropdown menu.

Step 7: If you select "All Pages within Range" in the dropdown, then specify the bundle size in the "Save as one document every" field.

Step 8: If you select "Target Pages" from the dropdown, then simply enter the Target Page Range you wish to extract from your PDF.

Step 9: Once you're done with these settings, go to the "Output Path" field and specify the path where you would want your split PDFs to be saved.

Step 10: Now simply click on the "Split" button to split your PDFs according to your needs, and then get to studying.
