Preparing to Present

Before presenting on Zoom with Canva, it is important to prepare your presentation. This includes finalizing your presentation, understanding Canva Presenter View, and practicing your presentation.

Finalizing Your Presentation

When preparing your presentation, ensure that it is complete and ready to present. This includes checking for spelling and grammatical errors, ensuring that all images and text are properly aligned, and confirming that all links and multimedia work correctly.

Understanding Canva Presenter View

Canva Presenter View is a feature that allows you to present your Canva presentation on Zoom with a more engaging and interactive experience. With Presenter View, you can easily navigate through your presentation, add notes and comments, and even see a preview of what your audience will see.

Practicing Your Presentation

Practice makes perfect, so it is important to rehearse your presentation before presenting on Zoom. This will help you become more comfortable with the material and ensure that your presentation runs smoothly. Consider practicing in front of a mirror or with a friend or family member to receive feedback and make any necessary adjustments.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your Canva presentation is ready to be presented on Zoom.

Integrating with Zoom

Zoom is a powerful video conferencing tool that can be integrated with Canva to create engaging presentations. Here are some steps to follow to integrate Canva with Zoom.

Setting Up Zoom for Presentations

Before you start, make sure that you have the latest version of Zoom installed on your computer. Once you have installed Zoom, you can create a new meeting and invite your participants. You can also schedule a meeting in advance and send out invitations to your participants.

Sharing Your Screen

To share your Canva presentation in Zoom, you need to share your screen. You can share your entire screen or just a portion of your screen. To share your screen, click on the “Share Screen” button in the Zoom toolbar. You can then choose to share your entire screen or just a portion of your screen.

Using Canva with Zoom Virtual Backgrounds

Zoom also allows you to use virtual backgrounds during your presentation. You can use Canva to create custom virtual backgrounds that will make your presentation more engaging. To use a virtual background, click on the “Virtual Background” button in the Zoom toolbar. You can then choose to use one of the pre-existing virtual backgrounds or upload your own custom virtual background.

Interactive Features

Canva presentations can be made more engaging by incorporating interactive features. With these features, the audience can actively participate in the presentation, making it more memorable and impactful. Here are some of the interactive features that can be added to Canva presentations for use in Zoom:

Adding Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks are a simple yet effective way to add interactivity to Canva presentations. You can link text, shapes, or images to external websites, other slides within the presentation, or even specific sections of the same slide. This can be useful for directing the audience to additional resources or for providing more information on a particular topic. To add a hyperlink to a Canva presentation, simply select the object you want to link, click on the “Link” button, and enter the URL or slide number.

Embedding Media

Another way to make Canva presentations more interactive is by embedding media such as videos, audio clips, or animated GIFs. This can be particularly useful for demonstrating a product or service, or for adding visual interest to the presentation. To embed media in a Canva presentation, simply drag and drop the media file into the presentation, resize it as necessary, and adjust the settings as needed.

Live Q&A and Polls

Finally, live Q&A and polls can be added to Canva presentations to encourage audience participation and engagement. This can be done using third-party tools such as Slido or Mentimeter, which integrate seamlessly with Zoom. With these tools, the audience can ask questions, vote on polls, and provide feedback in real-time, making the presentation more dynamic and interactive.

In conclusion, adding interactive features to Canva presentations can make them more engaging and memorable for the audience. By incorporating hyperlinks, media, and live Q&A and polls, presenters can create a more interactive and immersive experience for their audience.

Tips and Best Practices

Design consistency.

Design consistency is key when creating a Canva presentation for Zoom. Using a consistent color scheme, font style, and layout will help keep the audience engaged and focused on the content. It’s also important to use high-quality images and graphics that are relevant to the topic being presented.

To ensure design consistency, consider using Canva’s pre-made templates or creating your own template that can be reused for future presentations. This will save time and ensure a cohesive look across all presentations.

Engagement Strategies

Engaging the audience is crucial when presenting on Zoom. One way to do this is by using interactive elements such as polls, quizzes, and breakout rooms. Canva offers a variety of design elements that can be used to create these interactive elements, such as icons, graphics, and charts.

Another way to keep the audience engaged is by using animations and transitions. Canva has a variety of animation options that can be used to add movement and interest to the presentation.

Accessibility Considerations

When creating a Canva presentation for Zoom, it’s important to consider accessibility. This includes using high-contrast colors for text and graphics, using alt text for images, and ensuring that the font size is large enough to be easily readable.

It’s also important to consider captioning for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Zoom offers a closed captioning feature that can be used to add captions to the presentation in real-time.

By following these tips and best practices, presenters can create engaging and accessible Canva presentations for Zoom that will keep the audience focused and interested in the content being presented.

Then, select the Share button in the top right-hand corner.

Then click the Present button .

Step 2: Zoom Slider

In the Present Full Screen and Autoplay modes, bring your cursor to the bottom of the screen. A set of options will appear.

Select the zoom icon represented by a magnifying glass with a plus sign inside.

When you choose Autoplay , the presentation begins and moves through each slide using the Durations you set (explained earlier). You can also manually control the presentation if needed using the same tools as the Present Full Screen option.

Share a Canva Presentation

Along with or instead of actually presenting a slideshow with Canva, you can share it in a variety of ways. Whether you want to collaborate with your team, download the file to your device, or pop the presentation up on social media, Canva has you covered.

Select Share in the top right corner and then choose one of the following ways to share.

Maybe you want to work on the final presentation with a team member or coworker. You can grant access to others and provide them with a collaboration link.

Enter the people, groups, teams, or email addresses in the People with access field. Then, open the Collaboration link drop-down menu and pick Anyone with link to provide access.

Download a Presentation

If you’d like to save your presentation to your device or download it as a Microsoft PowerPoint file, this is easy too.

Select Download and use the File type drop-down to pick PDF, PPTX, GIF, PNG, or another format.

You can then choose to flatten the PDF, include notes, or download only certain pages (slides).

If you don’t want the traditional Zoom video beside your slide, there is a way: You will first have to create your presentation in Canva and then download it as a PowerPoint slide deck. You find this download option in the 3 Dots menu in the top right, in Canva. When Zoom is open, you will click on Share Screen and choose the Advanced option. Choose PowerPoint (in your downloads) as Virtual Background and then Share . Pick the presentation you want to show and you will see yourself in front of the presentation. Furthermore, please note that if you have animated slides, they will only download as static images. Canva won’t support animations, videos or audio embedded files, for the downloadable PowerPoint slides. [You can download video mp4 files or gif’s for anything you create that moves.] The great news is that the Zoom recording WILL pick up you in front of your Canva made virtual background slides, which is fantastic!

Canva Presentation Slides as Zoom Virtual Backgrounds

Hot Bonus Tips:

  • When you create your presentation in Canva, keep in mind that there are no animations or anything moving, if you are recording it in Canva, or if you are downloading the slides. You can create a building effect with duplicate slides and slight changes.
  • If you create Canva presentation slides with video clips or animations (sound or movement), then you need to download each slide as a MP4 file in order to add it into your slide deck as created.
  • If you use the typical share screen method in Zoom, you can share directly to your Canva presentation. This is an option!
  • Also, when using Canva slides as virtual backgrounds in Zoom, keep in mind where you want yourself to be. If you are on the right, left, or middle, you want to not have content on the slide in that area.
  • Make sure you know where your downloads are saving, either in the Downloads folder, on your desktop or in another location
  • Canva is packed with value! This is a great tool for creating visual and engaging prerecorded videos, or presentations that you share live.
  • You can sign up for a free account with Canva, or the paid Canva Pro Plan. In my opinion, it is 100% worth it! NEW Canva Affiliate Link: https://partner.canva.com/PRegier

I Make My Canva Designs Pop Using These Simple Tricks

Here's how i turn these 7 common smartphone photography disasters into wins, i tried every camera mode on my iphone: here’s what each one does best, quick links.

  • Instagram Posts and Reels
  • Pinterest Posts
  • Virtual Backgrounds for Zoom
  • Designing Resumes
  • Birthday Cards
  • Presentations

Key Takeaways

  • Canva is very versatile and great for creating social media content, wallpapers, and scrapbooks.
  • It can help resize, design, and edit Instagram posts and Reels professionally.
  • Create unique items like calendars, birthday cards, resumes, e-books, presentations, and Zoom backgrounds.

Beyond user-friendliness, Canva's biggest advantage is that it's incredibly versatile. You can use the app for social media content, to create wallpapers, and much more. Here are some of the best ways that you can use Canva, even if you have no design experience.

1 Instagram Posts and Reels

One of the most frustrating things is posting content to Instagram and noticing that it's blurry. It's impossible to stop all compression, but resizing your posts and Reels goes a long way. Canva lets you do both with pre-designed dimensions.

Instagram post translated to French on Canva for desktop

You can also use numerous templates to add text, elements, and various other things to your picture. Moreover, you have the option to edit your images with filters, sliders, and more.

In some cases, you might even want to schedule and publish your Instagram posts from Canva .

2 Wallpapers

If you want to spruce up your phone or computer, it's worth using Canva to create wallpapers. This is especially the case with smartphone wallpapers. To create these, simply pick the same dimensions as your phone or computer screen. Alternatively, you can choose Canva's pre-designed layouts for these respective devices.

Creating a Desktop Wallpaper in Canva

You can always start by adding your own images and then exporting them. However, if you want to take your designs a step further, you can always add other elements; even with a free Canva plan, you'll still find a broad range of tools.

If you own a Windows computer, you should also consider reading this guide on enjoying desktop wallpapers in their highest possible quality on Windows 11 .

3 Scrapbooks

Canva is a great tool for collecting your memories, and you have numerous tools available to design scrapbooks. You can pick from several pre-designed collage templates to organize everything, and it's possible to theme these however you want (for example, you might want to use themes for a recent trip or your Christmas party).

Customizing a scrapbook in Canva

When you've created one page in Canva, you can quickly create another and add your own memories to this as well. To make things easier, you can copy and paste the template from your first page. Repeat this process as many times as you need to. Canva also has specific scrapbook templates.

Consider reading these tips to make your Canva designs pop even more .

There are several reasons why memes are so popular , and if you've consumed lots of them in the past, you might even want to make your own. Canva is a simple tool for doing this; you can create a basic design and add however much text you want. It's also possible to change the font if you don't like the ones that are normally used for memes online (I personally do not).

Canva lets you choose to lay out your meme like a social media post and also has a range of funny pictures ready for you to customize. Some are pay-gated behind a Canva Pro plan, but you'll find more than enough even without one.

You can also choose whichever picture you want to overlay your meme. You can recreate popular meme templates or start completely from scratch. It's best to keep things simple if your primary goal is for them to go viral; if you're just sharing them with your friends, you can basically do whatever you want.

5 Calendars

Whether you want to print a calendar for your home or you're making it for your desktop or mobile screen, Canva is a fantastic tool for creating calendars. You can also use Canva to create a digital planner . To create a calendar in Canva, I recommend starting with a template and changing the design in a way that suits you thereafter.

Continue Button on Canva Calendar Print Order

You can use Canva to create weekly or monthly calendars, and you can pick whether you want it to include images or not.

6 Pinterest Posts

I'm a big Pinterest user, and it's one of the key ways that I drive traffic to my blog website. For this reason, I spend a lot of time in Canva designing posts for said platform. Canva gives you a diverse range of templates for Pinterest that range across travel, business, cooking, and more. I'll sometimes use templates for inspiration more than for their actual design, which is quite handy.

A Pinterest Pin Being Created in Canva

I think that Canva Pro has a much better selection of Pinterest post templates, but you certainly don't need a subscription. You can create your own from scratch, and there's a reasonable enough selection of pre-designed templates available for free. I've written a full guide on how to design a Pinterest post in Canva if you need some guidance.

7 Virtual Backgrounds for Zoom

You can use several tips and features for effective Zoom calls , but why not also make them fun? While you can customize your background in the Zoom app, it's also possible to create your own elsewhere. Doing so will give you more options than you otherwise would have.

It's possible to create several kinds of Zoom backgrounds in Canva, such as random patterns and numerous interior designs. You can even create an office-style background for your Zoom calls, along with visiting different destinations. Consider creating around five backgrounds if you regularly use Zoom; that way, you'll have plenty of customization options.

8 Designing Resumes

I have always disliked the idea that resumes need to be some boring sheet of A4 paper. Okay, sure, they have to get to the point and show why you're the right person for the job. But I don't see how doing the same thing as everyone else makes you stand out at all.

An image of a resume for a technology writer being created in Canva

In my opinion, it's always worth experimenting with different resume designs—especially if you're going for a creative job. I've used all kinds of templates for resumes in Canva, and to be honest, I've broken most of the rules when it comes to designing something that others would deem conventional.

Think about your industry's aesthetics and match them with your personality. It might not work all of the time, but I do think you'll match yourself with better-fitting roles if you let your creative side out a little.

9 Birthday Cards

With so many online tools and services, you no longer have an excuse to forget to send a birthday card . Canva lets you create folded and non-folded birthday cards with minimal effort, and you can always print these out later if you'd like.

You can use multiple themes in your Canva birthday cards, and there's something for all ages. Thanks to the app's customizable nature, you can add a photo of the person (or of things they're interested in). If you don't want to send a printed version, you can always share your birthday card with your loved one online.

10 Presentations

Whether you need to create a university or work presentation, or you have a public talk to prepare for, Canva is one of my favorite apps for creating presentations. Yes, I even prefer it over Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides. There are two reasons for this: simplicity and beauty.

Canva Magic Presentation example.

It's incredibly easy to create a unique presentation in Canva, with several fonts and designs available. On top of that, you can also add numerous animations and lay your elements out with minimal restrictions. It's also possible to convert Canva slides to PowerPoint if you need Microsoft's software to access them later.

E-books are a superb way to share your expertise on a particular topic, and I love their portable nature. As someone who likes writing and would classify himself as an entrepreneur, I also enjoy creating them. Canva is a great tool for doing this.

I would never recommend writing the book in Canva; use Google Docs or Microsoft Word. But when you're ready to put the final design together, you have access to several customization tools. For example, you can quickly put together a custom book cover.

Creating an eBook Cover in the Canva App

Once you've finished, consider putting your book on one of the many online e-book stores worth using .

Canva is a great tool if you don't have much design experience and you want to use it for a wide range of creations. But even if you are experienced, you'll still find value in using it for your personal projects. Consider starting with what I've discussed here.

5 skills you need to know to thrive in the age of ai.

A student at a high school sits in front of a laptop and uses an AI tool.

In a world where artificial intelligence is no longer the stuff of science fiction, but a driving force in our daily lives, it's crucial to equip ourselves with the right skills to navigate this new landscape. Whether you're a fresh graduate, a seasoned professional, a technical person, or can barely use a smartphone - these five skills will help you transform from an AI novice to a veritable AI ninja, ready to thrive in the age of artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence isn't just for tech gurus—it's a game-changer for everyone from business executives to real estate agents and even busy parents. Whether you're a seasoned professional or simply curious about AI, mastering these five practical skills will help you harness the power of AI without needing to write a single line of code.

  • AI for Productivity - AI tools can significantly boost your productivity, helping you work smarter, not harder. From creating birthday party invitations, your next class syllabus, or your board of directors’ agenda and outline, there are many practical day-to-day applications of artificial intelligence. Explore AI writing assistants like TextCortext , or ChatGPT to help write emails, reports, or social media posts. Or, instead of using Zoom or Microsoft Teams recorded features for your next meeting, try Otter.ai or Supernormal for meeting notes, transcriptions, and an email with action items ready to be sent. The possibilities are endless. Pro tip: Start with one tool and integrate it into your daily routine. Once you're comfortable, add another. Small steps lead to big changes!
  • AI for Decision Making - You don't need to be a data scientist or an ‘IT’ person to make data-driven decisions. AI tools can help you understand and visualize data easily. Learn the basics of data interpretation with free data courses. Or if you want an accelerated path to learning the basics and get a list of suggested tools to analyze your excel spreadsheet, business sales, or personal finance data use, here’s a great blog that’s easy to follow. Pro tip: Start with familiar data, like your business sales or personal finance data. Seeing AI insights on familiar information makes the learning process more relatable.
  • AI in Customer Service - AI can help you provide better, faster customer service without increasing your workload. Simple things like implementing a chatbot on your website or Facebook page using AI tools. Just a simple google search on ‘AI tools for chatbots’ will provide hundreds of tools. Just pick one that seems the easiest to use and gets you started quickly. Pro tip: You’ll need to have learned the basics of AI and integrated at least one or two tools in your daily life before moving on to something like Chatbots. While the AI tools have made it easy, it still requires some familiarity so you don’t get overwhelmed. Also, start with an area like frequently asked questions for your chatbot. This is an easier dataset to work with and it frees up your time to help answer more complex customer interactions.
  • AI for Marketing - Whether you want to develop your brand, do a better job in sending emails out to your team, or create content that is more eye-catching for your next Fantasy League Football party, AI can help you create more targeted and effective content without a huge budget or technical know-how. You can either google ‘AI marketing tools’ to get a list of free options, or you can use Canva's AI-powered Magic Write for creating creative marketing content, copy, and designs. Pro tip: Aim for progress over perfection. Test your AI-generated content against your regular content. See what resonates best with you before your proceed .
  • AI Ethics Awareness - As AI becomes more prevalent in our lives, understanding its ethical implications is crucial, even for non-technical users. Consider the ethical implications of the AI tools you use. Are they respecting user privacy? Are they potentially biased? Developing this awareness will make you a more responsible AI user. Pro tip: Do not use personal or private data when first starting out. Exclude individual names, company names, and anything that may be deemed sensitive. You can always add that later when you’re authoring the real content.

  • Analyze last quarter's sales data and present the insights to your team.
  • Use AI-powered image generation to create unique visuals for your next presentation.
  • Set up an AI-powered social media campaign to market your non-profit on key channels.
