This paper identified the most recent focal themes on change management from 2011 to 2016. The fundamental aim of this paper is to identify common themes from a broad range of change management literature as published in peer reviewed international journals. In its content it seeks to provoke thought within the profession in order to better understand current trends, basic principles and dimensions of the change. Ultimately, it is intended to inform practitioner actions and stimulate scholarly debate on the common underlying themes in change management. The approach and design of this paper identified 100 studies on change management from peer reviewed journal publications. The studies identified formed the primary data. These journal articles were searched through the internet, and classified and coded based on: Source of the journal, year of publication, key words, purpose of the study, approach design and methodology, and major findings. Sensemaking and Sensegiving: A Concept for Successful Change Management that Brings Together Moral Foundations Theory and the Ordonomic Approach

Change management projects typically fail because they meet employee resistance created by emo-tional sensemaking processes. In this article, we present: (a) an in-depth explanation for these failures and, (b) how change managers could avoid them. Our argument is presented in the following three steps. We begin with the empirically well-established fact that attempts at change management often trigger negative emotional responses. We then draw on Moral Foundations Theory to identify the typical categories of emotional responses that may result in resistance to organizational change. Finally, we build on the ordonomic approach to business ethics in order to substantiate the diagnosis that, in many cases, emotional responses cause employees to behave in a way that is collectively self-damaging. The core idea of our contribution is that emotionally-driven processes of sensemaking can easily become dysfunctional, especially in situations that require extensive change. Consequently, it should be a top priority for managers to engage in sensegiving, which comprises: (a) narratives that explain what is going on against the background of relevant alternatives, and (b) appropriate discourses that guide how employees form their expectations. In a nutshell, sensegiving attempts to reframe sensemaking processes.

Bachelor Thesis : optimization program to manage the changing of nurses shifts in a hospital

This thesis is based on an International Competition happend between 2014 and 2015, in which it was requested to design a system that would optimize the scheduling of shifts within a hospital.

So, given* N *nurses and M weeks, the goal is to obtain the nurses's timetable within the selected period, in order to satisfy most of the constraints imposed on the optimization problem.

This type of problem was modeled as an Integer Linear Programming Problem, in which all integer variables and mostly binary ones were used.

It was also created a web application, which makes the program available to users.

Experiments have also been made to analyze the functionality of the model created which show that it is a very good model because it always finds a feasible solution.

The model was written in Python, using as optimization software Gurobi.

  • Constants.py : contains the constants of the program;
  • Preprocessing.py : file that prepare some historical data for use;
  • Random_Data.py : contains randomly generated data;
  • Model.py : contains the implementation of the model, with all the binary variables and the hard and soft constraints;
  • Read_Data.py : contains functions that transform the actual competition data format into a format created for the program;
  • Real_Exp.py : experiments made to analyze the model created. The percentage gap and che calculation time of the solution were measured by setting a maximum time of 1 hour.

The Interface

It is not just an interface but it's a real web application, with a front end part and a back end part. It was created using the framework Django.

Main files:

  • models.py ;
  • serializers.py ;

Experiments

Changing the number of nurses and the period from 4 to 8 weeks, were misureted the percentage gap and the calculation time of the solution imposing 1h as the maximum time.
