Speech on Self Confidence

Self-confidence is a key ingredient that fuels your journey towards success. It’s like a magic potion that helps you face challenges head-on.

Without self-confidence, even the smallest tasks seem daunting. Remember, your belief in yourself can move mountains!

1-minute Speech on Self Confidence

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, I would like to speak to you about an essential aspect of our personality: Self Confidence. It is the belief in oneself to accomplish any task.

Self-confidence is not a trait that we are born with. It is something we develop as we grow and nurture it. It starts with understanding yourself, recognizing your potential, and identifying your skills. We are all unique in our way, equipped with different talents and abilities. To become confident, you need to acknowledge your strengths and embrace your weaknesses.

A self-confident person is admired by others and inspires confidence in others. They face their fears head-on and tend to be risk takers. Self-confidence can enrich our lives as it opens up more possibilities. With confidence, we can achieve our goals, conquer our fears, and reach heights we may have never imagined.

In conclusion, self-confidence is a skill that can be built upon every day. It opens numerous doors to opportunities and helps us overcome our fears, making us resilient in the face of challenges. So, let us all strive to cultivate this trait to experience a fulfilling and successful life. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on Self Confidence

Today, I would like to speak about something integral to our lives, something that can be the deciding factor of our success – Self Confidence. What is self-confidence? It is the belief in oneself and one’s abilities. It is the courage to take risks, to face challenges, and to not be afraid of failure.

Self-confidence comes with self-awareness. We should identify our strengths and weaknesses, and work towards improving them. A weakness is not a flaw, but an opportunity for development. Do not see it as a deficiency, but as a sign of self-improvement. It’s important to set realistic and achievable goals for ourselves and strive to reach them.

However, self-confidence does not mean being overconfident or arrogant. It means having a positive and realistic view of ourselves and our abilities. Overconfidence can lead us to underestimate the effort required to achieve our goals, while self-confidence motivates us to work hard towards them.

Remember, failures and criticisms are stepping stones to success. They help us to learn, to grow, and to improve. If we fail, we should not let it lower our self-confidence. Instead, we should learn from it and persist. Criticisms should not dishearten us; instead, they should be viewed as constructive feedback and a chance to improve ourselves. After all, failure is not the opposite of success; it’s a part of success.

Building self-confidence is a gradual process. It involves changing how we perceive ourselves and how we react to situations. Let’s cultivate a positive mindset, accept compliments graciously, keep a check on our thoughts, and affirm ourselves. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and good sleep also contribute greatly to building and maintaining self-confidence.

In conclusion, self-confidence is not just about believing in our abilities; it is about believing in ourselves. It’s about understanding and accepting ourselves, acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses, and seeing them not as barriers, but as opportunities for growth. It’s about standing tall, not in comparison to others, but to our previous selves. Let’s celebrate every achievement, no matter how small, and keep striving to become the best versions of ourselves.

Motivational Speeches ON Self Confidence

These are the words of Muhammad Ali , one of the greatest boxers of all time. He has said this on several occasions – in his speeches, before his fights and in his interview with Oprah. When asked for his inspiration, he mentioned that he had heard boxer Gorgeous George on TV repeat to himself, ‘I am beautiful’ and ‘I’m the greatest’, and that motivated Ali to have belief in himself. This story is the perfect example of what self-confidence can help you achieve.

Meaning Of Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is the ability to truly believe in yourself. It comes from an inherent trust in oneself; it is essential to know your strengths and weaknesses to build trust in yourself. Being self-confident means having a positive mindset, something that we focus on in our senior leadership program . It gives you the courage to face challenges and approach life with resilience.

Self-confidence is like having a superhero cape tucked away. When you put it on, you’re ready to face the challenges of your story with a smile and a ‘can-do attitude’. It’s like when Maya Angelou said, “You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise.”

Nevertheless, there are times when things don’t work out how you expect them to and don’t have anyone to motivate you – we’ve all been there. For example, a lot of us lack self-confidence in English and feel frightened. These are the moments when you realise the power of words – be it a short quotation or a short speech on  self-confidence . But how do these speeches work? What mantra do they provide to our brain that makes us feel motivated after we listen to them? Let’s find out and understand the role of motivational speeches   in life and how they can inspire you when you want to .

Impact Of Motivational Speeches On Self-Confidence

Motivational speeches can touch our emotions and thoughts, making us want to be better. They go deep into our minds and can change how we see things. Understanding why is self-confidence essential and how confidence can be nurtured is crucial in comprehending the impact of motivational speeches.

Here’s a detailed analysis of how self-confidence is developed and enhanced through motivational speeches:

draft 1 motivational speeches on self confidence google docs

1. Inspirational Beacons

Motivational speakers often share personal stories of triumph over adversity, instilling a sense of hope and resilience in their audience. These stories serve as beacons of inspiration, reminding us that challenges are not roadblocks but growth opportunities.

Believing in yourself and learning to surround yourself with positive influences contribute significantly to the transformative power of motivational speeches.

One notable example of a speech on self-confidence in the modern world is Oprah’s acceptance speech at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. She addressed the #MeToo movement and the Time’s Up campaign, which aimed to combat sexual harassment and inequality in the workplace. Her speech surprised social media, inspiring millions of women to speak out and summoning hundreds to claim it was her “Presidential Acceptance” speech.

2. Positive Affirmations

Motivational speeches are laden with positive affirmations and encouraging words. The repetition of empowering phrases helps rewire our thought patterns, replacing self-doubt with affirmations that bolster our self-esteem. As we internalize these positive messages, our confidence blossoms, and it is something we gradually embrace as an integral part of self-confidence.

Another speech on self-confidence is the commencement address at the 2014 MIU graduation ceremony given by Jim Carrey which provided positive affirmations to people. A memorable part of his speech involved the story of his father, who initially aspired to be a comedian but chose a more stable job. However, when his father lost that job, it taught Carrey that you can fail at what you don’t love, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love. His words resonated with many, serving as a source of encouragement for an individual to follow their dreams and believe in one’s abilities.

3. Growth Mindset

Motivational speeches encourage the adoption of a growth mindset – the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, perseverance and smart work. This mindset shift is instrumental in building self-confidence, as it promotes a willingness in ourselves to embrace challenges and learn from failures, fostering the courage to take risks.

The best speech on self-worth and self-confidence that provoked people to develop a growth mindset was by Carol Dweck . In her TED Talk titled “The Power of Believing That You Can Improve”, Dweck delves into the concept of fixed mindset versus growth mindset. By illustrating the transformative power of adopting a growth mindset, Dweck’s insights have encouraged countless individuals to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and view effort as a path to mastery. This speech has played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of continuous learning.

A motivational speech is not a magic potion that will work instantly and develop your self-confidence. A motivational speech can only inspire you and guide you in the right direction – the change of self-confidence can be brought by you. It is something that has to be nurtured and developed over time.

Notable Motivational Speeches On Self-Confidence

History is filled with stories of self-confidence that show how a person rose through all adversities to find their place in the world. There are biographies available where you can read people’s life journeys and their struggles. But if you need some quick motivation, here’s a list of some world-famous speeches from leaders around the globe that can inspire confidence in a person and ignite belief in your abilities.

Let’s roll!

1. Earl Nightingale – “The Strangest Secret” Speech (1956)

In this classic motivational speech on self-confidence, Earl Nightingale explores the power of thought and belief in shaping our lives. He emphasises the concept that we become what we think about ourselves most of the time. Nightingale’s insights on self-confidence revolve around the idea that our attitudes and beliefs are crucial in determining our success and happiness. He offers a clear and actionable path toward building self-confidence by focusing on cultivating a positive mindset and fostering constructive belief in oneself. A beautiful excerpt of his speech has been reproduced below.

“Do you know what will happen to 100 individuals who start even at the age of 25 and who believe they will be successful? By the age of 65, only five out of 100 will make the grade! Why do so many fail? What happened to the sparkle that was there when they were 25? That is … The Strangest Secret.”

2. Martin Luther King Jr. – ‘I Have A Dream’ Speech (1963)

Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered in 1963 during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, is a powerful and iconic address. King passionately speaks about his dream for a future where people are not judged based on their skin colour but by the content of their character. He urges his followers to remember their struggle, gain self-confidence and use it as a strength in fighting for freedom and equality. He envisions a nation where equality and justice prevail and the principles of freedom and brotherhood extend to all citizens. An extract from his speech has been mentioned below.

“Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. So, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

3. Steve Jobs – ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ Speech (2005)

Steve Jobs’ “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” speech on self-confidence was part of his commencement address at Stanford University in 2005. Jobs shared personal anecdotes and urged graduates to follow their passion and intuition, emphasising the importance of perseverance and innovation. He shares his story about dropping out of college, learning calligraphy and how it helped him create beautiful typefaces for the first Mac. Jobs shares his early struggles of being ousted from Apple and the subsequent founding of Pixar. The phrase “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” encapsulates Jobs’ message, urging the audience to possess curiosity, have belief in themselves, take risks, and embrace the unknown in their journey toward personal and professional fulfilment. Let’s highlight a small but powerful extract from his 15-minute speech.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”

4. Brené Brown – ‘The Power Of Vulnerability’ Speech (2010)

‘The Power of Vulnerability’ is a book and Ted Talk by Brené Brown that provides a powerful framework for building self-confidence. In this speech on self-confidence building, she delves into the dynamics of vulnerability, emphasising that embracing imperfections and acknowledging our vulnerabilities is the path to genuine connection and self-confidence. Brown discusses the impact of shame, the importance of empathy, and the courage required to embrace our authentic selves. Her talk challenges societal expectations and encourages an individual to find strength in vulnerability, fostering a deep sense of confidence and connection with others. Let’s take a sneak peek at an extract from her 20-minute speech.

“They fully embraced vulnerability. They believed that what made them vulnerable made them beautiful. They didn’t talk about vulnerability being comfortable, nor did they really talk about it being excruciating – as I had heard it earlier in the shame interviewing. They just talked about it being necessary.”

5. Dr Ivan Joseph – “The Skill Of Self-Confidence” Speech (2012)

Dr Ivan Joseph is a well-known sports psychologist also recognised for his TED Talk “ The Skill of Self Confidence ”. In this talk, he emphasises that self-confidence is a skill that can be developed and honed over time. Like any skill, it requires practice, dedication, and the willingness to learn from successes and failures. The power of positive self-talk is a key aspect of developing self-confidence. Dr. Joseph encourages individuals to replace negative thoughts and self-doubt with positive affirmations and self-confidence. He urges the audience to view feedback as a means of improvement rather than a threat, fostering a continuous learning mindset. A small extract from his talk is mentioned below.

“I recruited a goalie from Colombia, South America one year. Big, tall, 6’3” man. You know, he had hands like stone. I thought he was like Flipper. Every time I threw him the ball down, onto the ground. I was like, oh my god, we’re in trouble. Simple solution: get to the wall, kick a ball against the wall and catch it. Kick the ball against the wall and catch it. His goal was 350 a day for eight months. He came back, his hands were calloused, the moisture on his hands were literally gone, he is now playing in Europe. Magic? No. Repetition, repetition, repetition.”

3 Tips For Giving An Effective Motivational Speech

A speech has three essential components: (a) Message to be conveyed, (b) Structure of the speech and (c) Verbal delivery. Here, we will be sharing with you three very important and highly effective frameworks to master each of these components, enabling us to harness the power of persuasive communication and instill confidence in ourselves we may not have realized was there.

These frameworks or tips will require your full attention, so eliminate all distractions and prepare to focus for the next 2 minutes.

It’s essential that we must delve into these insights with a clear mind and the awareness that you are investing in your own growth and development.

1. Choosing The Right Message

Using the P-A-M framework – Purpose, Audience and Message – is very important for conveying the right message to your audience.

draft 1 motivational speeches on self confidence google docs 6

The Purpose is the reason behind the communication. It answers the question, “What do I want to achieve through my message?” Do I want to inspire, inform, entertain or persuade the audience?

The Audience refers to the group or an individual for whom the message is intended. It answers the question, “Who am I communicating with?” Consider your audience’s interests, attitudes, expectations and knowledge to ensure that your message is relatable and relevant.

The Message is the content or information being communicated. It answers the question, “What am I trying to convey?” Clearly articulate the main idea of your speech and keep your content clear, compelling and tailored to the audience’s requirements.

2. Engaging Structure Of Speech

To ensure that the structure of your speech about self confidence is engaging and draws the attention of the crowd, use the mind-mapping technique for storytelling. This technique revolves around three concepts:

1. The subject of the story should be at the centre of the map.

2. Use branches to represent ideas and sub-ideas.

3. Use visuals such as images and colours for mental triggers

draft 1 motivational speeches on self confidence google docs 7

For giving a speech on self-confidence, let’s place ‘Self-confidence’ in the centre (refer to the figure above while reading). Now, add branches to this main topic to show the sub-topics you would like to explore: Self-esteem, Self-doubt and Self-worth. To make the structure clearer, divide sub-topics into narrower concepts by adding more branches and, finally, add colours and images for a visual trigger.

3. Effective Verbal Delivery

Once you have the right message and a chronological structure, delivering the message effectively is the next most important thing. If the delivery is wrong, the entire speech becomes a waste. To ensure the delivery is perfect, we follow the four Ps: power, pace, pause, and pitch.

draft 1 motivational speeches on self confidence google docs 8

Power refers to the strength of your voice, confidence and assertiveness in your speech. Do a thorough research of your content, speak assertively and reflect self-confidence in your speech. Pace is the speed at which you speak. Increase your speed to convey a sense of urgency, and reduce the speed to add weight and importance to your words. Pause is like the power of silence in your speech. Strategically adding pauses in your speech adds impact and allows time for the audience to reflect on the key points. Lastly, pitch refers to the rhythm of your voice, which we also call ‘voice modulation’. Raise your pitch to exert excitement and lower it to make an emotional connection with the listeners.

Self-confidence acts like a guiding light in our daily lives. It is the thread that weaves action, resilience, and success together, and motivational speeches play the role of powerful catalysts, awakening the dormant strength of self-confidence within us.

Confidence is the key to unlocking our potential. You are not born with self-confidence, and it is not God-gifted. We possess self-confidence by being humans with immense power and the capability to reason, but sometimes, a motivational speech aggravates this self-confidence.

The purpose of this article is self-confidence twofold: to show you a way of gaining self-confidence through motivational speeches and to allow you to become an effective motivational speaker and influence hundreds of others with your words. Beyond this, you have to believe in yourself and the key to success lies in embracing this powerful attribute, shaping your destiny with unwavering confidence. Keep that belief burning bright!

Speech on Importance of Self Confidence 1:

Good (morning/afternoon/evening), everyone. Imagine waking up every day feeling assured in your abilities, ready to tackle challenges head-on. That’s the essence of self-confidence. Today, we’re going to explore what self-confidence truly means, why it’s important, and how we can cultivate it in our lives. Let me share a quick personal story: there was a time when I struggled to speak in public. Overcoming that fear was a journey, but it taught me the value of self-confidence and its impact on personal growth.

Self-confidence is the belief in one’s own abilities and judgement. It’s not about being perfect but about trusting ourselves to handle whatever comes our way. Why is this so important? Self-confidence fuels resilience, drives success, and enhances our overall well-being. When we believe in ourselves, we’re more likely to take on new challenges and persevere through difficulties.

To further grasp the concept of self confidence, we can look at a real life example.

Consider the story of J.K. Rowling, who faced numerous rejections before “Harry Potter” became a global phenomenon. Her perseverance and self-confidence in her work eventually led to immense success. This example highlights how self-confidence can transform setbacks into stepping stones and achieve remarkable outcomes.

Let’s look at some tips you can use to boost your confidence:

First one is Self-Reflection: Regularly assess your progress and acknowledge your achievements. Reflecting on your growth helps reinforce your self-belief.

Second is Practice: Engage in activities that push you out of your comfort zone. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll become in your abilities.

Third point is to Seek Feedback: Constructive feedback is a valuable tool for growth. Use it to identify areas for improvement and build on your strengths.

And the last one to Celebrate Successes: Take time to celebrate your victories, no matter how minor. Recognising and rewarding yourself fosters a positive self-image.

You also need to be wary of some hurdles that may hinder your growth and act as a barrier to self-confidence. Common barriers to self-confidence include fear of failure and self-doubt. To overcome these, focus on setting realistic goals, embracing failures as learning opportunities, and surrounding yourself with supportive people who encourage your growth.

Long Speech on Self-Confidence

Today, I want to talk about a topic that is often underestimated, yet incredibly powerful – self-confidence. Self-confidence is the glue that holds together our dreams, our aspirations, and our achievements. It helps us succeed and shields us from fear and doubt.

Self-confidence is not something we are born with; it is something we develop and nurture over time. It requires self-awareness, belief in one’s abilities, and a positive mindset. When we have self-confidence, we are more likely to take risks, embrace challenges, and step outside our comfort zones.

Building self-confidence starts with recognizing our strengths and accepting our weaknesses. We are all unique individuals with our own set of skills and talents. By celebrating our achievements, no matter how small, and acknowledging the skills we excel in, we can lay a solid foundation for our self-confidence to flourish.

However, self-confidence is not just about recognizing our strengths; it is also about embracing our imperfections. It is about accepting who we are, flaws and all, and realizing that no one is perfect. When we let go of the need for perfection and focus on our unique qualities, we become more confident in our abilities.

Another key aspect of self-confidence is our mindset and inner dialogue. We must counter the negative self-talk that often worry our minds with positive affirmations. Instead of saying, “I can’t do it,” we should say, “I will give it my best shot.” By replacing self-doubt with belief in ourselves, we create a positive ground for our self-confidence to grow.

Surrounding ourselves with positive influences and supportive people is also crucial for building self-confidence. It is important to have a network of individuals who believe in us, encourage us, and push us to be the best version of ourselves. Their unchanging support can provide the boost we need when we face challenges or setbacks.

Lastly, self-confidence is not a destination; it is a lifelong journey. It requires constant effort and self-reflection. We must continuously challenge ourselves, set ambitious goals, and push beyond our limits. By stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing new experiences, we gain a deeper understanding of our true potential and increase our self-confidence .

In conclusion, self-confidence is the key that unlocks endless possibilities and move us towards success. By recognizing our strengths, embracing our imperfections, adopting a positive mindset, and surrounding ourselves with positive influences, we can cultivate our self-confidence. So, let us all embark on this journey of self-belief and empower ourselves to reach new heights. Thank you.

10. Inspiring Others and Creating a Ripple Effect

Finally, the power of words extends beyond ourselves. By harnessing the power of our own words, we create a ripple effect, making a positive impact on the lives of others and collectively fostering a culture of personal growth.

Here is the full text and summary of Dr. Ivan Joseph’s talk: The Skill of Self Confidence at TEDxRyersonU conference. In this TEDx Talk, Dr. Ivan Joseph, former athletic director and soccer coach, discusses how to build the skills of self confidence.

TRANSCRIPT:

Dr. Ivan Joseph – Athletic Director and Head Coach

In my past life as a soccer coach, once you won a national championship, everyone wants to come play for you.

Really not true. Once you paid them $25,000 a year in scholarships, everybody wants to come play for you. And parents would always come to me and they’d say: “Okay, my son or my daughter wants to come play at your university, what is it that we have to do? You know, what are you looking for?”

And being the Socratic professor that I am, I say, well, what does your son or daughter do? What do they do really well that we’d be interested in? And typically their answers are, well, they’ve got great vision. They’re really good. They can see the entire field.

Or, my daughter is the fastest player, there’s nobody that can beat her. Or, my son’s got a great left-footer. Really great in the air and can hit every ball.

I’m like: “Yeah, not bad; but to be quite honest with you, those are the last things I’m looking for. The most important thing? Self-confidence.”

Without that skill, and I use the word skill intentionally, without that skill, we are useless as a soccer player. Because when you lose sight or belief in yourself, we’re done for.

5 Minute Speech On Self-Confidence Is The Key To Success

Before I deliver my speech I would like to wish you all the best wishes & I also want to thank you a lot for having me a chance to share my views on this important topic i.e. Self-confidence. Let me start with a story.

Once upon a time, Emperor Akbar asked Birbal about the most powerful thing in the world. Birbal replied that it is self-confidence. Then Emperor Akbar challenged him to prove his point. After some days, Emperor Akbar has to battle with a huge troop of soldiers whereas his troop was ten times shorter.

Then Birbal saw a tree near the battlefield. He brought his troop to the tree and told them that this tree is wish-fulfilling. He tossed a coin under the tree and told the troop if we get three consequent tails, we will win. He gets three consequent tails.

Knowing this Akbar’s troop heads toward the battlefield and eventually wins the battle. Then Birbal told Akbar that the tree was a normal tree and the coin had a tail on both sides. This was the self-confidence that did the miracle to defeat ten times stronger troops.

The moral of this story: When you have faith in yourself, you can do whatever you want. You can achieve whatever you strive for. There are hundreds of stories out there that will explain to you the importance of self-confidence.

Self-confidence is one of the strongest forces on earth, it has the power to make people do things they never thought possible before. If you can not have faith in yourself, it will lower your self-esteem which will lead you to self-doubt and eventually, you feel inferior to others. So, being self-confident is the first step to accomplishing your goals.

In other words, if you have self-confidence, your half of the way is completed. When you are self-confident, you just trust your abilities. Self-confidence fills you with optimism means you see something positive where everyone else is seeing negative.

In contrast, there is a thing to remember that anything in excess is harmful and the same applies to self-confidence. If you are overconfident, it can work as an obstacle in your way.

Everyone can become self-confident but it will take time and effort. It is impossible to learn self-confidence in one day. You have to understand your weaknesses and try to live with them if that is the case. Gain knowledge to guide yourself along the path of life.

When a person lacks self-confidence, he or she never takes any risks or explores possibilities, and instead, always sticks stagnant. In today’s society, anyone can be successful regardless of their social class or background but it takes time and strong determination to be successful.

This is why self-confidence plays such a big role in success. It is however a lot easier to be successful if one does have some self-confidence. Someone has correctly said that self-confidence is the key to success and history is the witness to it.

There is a lot to say but I have to stop my speech here. Thank you!

1) "Success, Failure, & the Drive to Keep Creating" by Elizabeth Gilbert

Length: 7 min. 14 sec..

Before she authored the book Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert was an "unpublished young diner waitress," devastated by rejection letters. And even after she published the book and it became a huge success, she found herself identifying strongly with her former self -- and feeling the urge to quit the fame game and move to the country to raise corgis.

In this TED talk, Gilbert reflects on the strange and unlikely psychological connection between how we experience great failure and how we experience great success. She then offers simple (though hard) advice for making sure your creativity survives its own success.

2) "The Power of Believing You Can Improve" by Carol Dweck

Length: 10 min. 20 sec..

Carol Dweck starts her talk off with a short but powerful story about a high school in Chicago where students didn't receive failing grades. Instead, they received the grade "Not Yet." The grade implies that not passing the course doesn't mean you're going nowhere, but rather you're on a learning curve.

Dweck uses this story to frame the rest of her TED talk, where she talks about her research on "growth mindset" -- the idea that we can actually grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. She talks about two different ways to approach a problem that's just a little too hard for you to solve: Are you not smart enough to solve it ... or have you just not solved it yet?

3) "How to Live Passionately -- No Matter Your Age" by Isabel Allende

Length: 8 min. 16 sec..

I'm a long-time fan of Isabel Allende, author of (among other wonderful books) The House of Spirits. She's 71 years old, but says she's still 17. Hey, why let society decide when you're old?

In her TED talk, she talks about how we all experience age differently. She talks about her fears as she gets older, and shares how she plans to keep living passionately. Through aging, she says she's gained freedom -- mainly, the freedom from having to prove things to people anymore.

"My body may be falling apart, but my brain is not, yet," she says. "I love my brain. I feel lighter. I don't carry grudges, ambition, vanity, none of the deadly sins that are not even worth the trouble. It's great to let go. And I should have started sooner. "

4) "How to Build Your Creative Confidence" by David Kelley

Length: 11 min. 29 sec..

When have you, or others in your life, opted out of being creative? Many organizations divided people into categories: Either you're a "creative," or you're not. But designer and educator David Kelley suggests that creativity is not limited to a chosen few.

In this TED talk, Kelley tells really interesting, touching stories from his legendary design career and his own life, and offers ways to build the confidence to create. He believes that when people gain this confidence, they start working on the things that are really important in their lives -- and come up with more interesting ideas.

5) "The Day I Stood Up Alone" by Boniface Mwangi

Length: 7 min. 20 sec..

( Warning: NSFW. There are graphic images in this video.)

Boniface Mwangi is a photographer whose job was to document the horrific violence in his home country of Kenya -- and watched as his government kept it silent. Finally, he made a plan to protest against the corruption: During a large public meeting where the Kenyan president was speaking, he and a few friends would stand up and heckle the president to get his attention.

But his friends never showed . "I was scared, but I knew very well that that particular day, I had to make a decision. Was I able to live as a coward, like everyone else, or was I going to make a stand?"

He says what he decided to do in that moment showed him who he truly was. As he says, "There are two most powerful days in your life. The day you are born, and the day you discover why."

6) "How I Beat Stage Fright" by Joe Kowan

Length: 8 min. 3 sec..

Humans are fearful for a reason. It served us well as a species for thousands of years so we wouldn't be killed off by predators. But, as Joe Kowan explains, it's a little less wonderful when that same, visceral, body-hijacking sense of fear kicks in in front of 20 folk-music fans at an open mic night.

Kowan used to just write songs, but at some point, that wasn't enough anymore. He had all these stories and ideas he wanted to share with people, but his stage fright was keeping him from doing it. The week of his 30th birthday, he decided to put that fear behind him, a process he describes in this talk.

7) "Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are" by Amy Cuddy

Length: 20 min. 55 sec..

Body language can have profound effects on how others see us. We make sweeping judgments and inferences from body language, and those judgments can predict really meaningful life outcomes -- like whom we hire or promote, whom we ask out on a date, and so on. But, even more importantly, body language can affect how we see ourselves.

Social Psychologist Amy Cuddy's research on body language proves that we can actually change other people's perceptions of us (and even our own body chemistry) simply by changing body positions. In this TED talk, Cuddy specifically talks about how "power posing" -- i.e., standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don't feel confident -- can affect testosterone and cortisone levels in the brain. If we do it for even two minutes at a time, it can have profound positive impacts on how we feel and whether we succeed.

8) "The Game That Can Give You 10 Extra Years of Life" by Jane McGonigal

Length: 19 min. 23 sec..

Now here's a wild story: Two years prior to giving this TED talk, game designer Jane McGonigal suffered a severe concussion and became bedridden and suicidal. Suicidal ideation is common following traumatic brain injuries, and hers became so bad that she began to fear for her life. At one point -- and she says she'll never forget this moment -- she said to herself, "I'm either going to kill myself, or I'm going to turn this into a game."

That was her ticket to getting better: turning it into a game. She dove into scientific research and created the healing game she called SuperBetter. In this moving talk, she explains how a game like hers can help boost resilience. (And she promises watching the talk will add 7 1/2 minutes to your life.)

9) "Where Does Creativity Hide?" by Amy Tan

Length: 22 min. 42 sec..

Where does creativity come from? Are some people born with it? Is creativity a function of some other neurological quirk, like psychosis or depression? Are some people equipped with certain skills that enable creativity, like artistic ability? Or is creativity developed mostly through experience?

You may know Amy Tan as the author of The Joy Luck Club, or one of her other well known books. In this TED talk, she dives into her own creative process and stories of her life that could lend a clue to where it comes from. She reminds us that, in our moments of doubt, even if there is an answer, there is uncertainty in everything -- and that's a good thing. In fact, that space where the uncertainty is can be the birthplace of creativity: She finds that by filling those holes with her own imagining, she can find particles of truth and discover new possibilities she'd never considered before.

10) "The Career Advice You Probably Didn't Get" by Susan Colantuono

Length: 13 min. 57 sec..

Some people, Susan Colantuono included, believe that leadership manifests at every level of management. There's a tremendous number of a wesome leaders in middle management, and many of them are women. But for Colantuono, this raises the question: Why are there so many women stuck in the middle -- even when they're doing everything right at work and taking all the right advice?

In this TED talk, Colantuono shares a simple and surprising piece of advice. The talk's aimed primarily at women, but there are universal takeaways in here for men, too, as well as for new graduates and mid-career workers.

Which TED talks would you add to this list? Share with us in the comments.

Short Speech on Self Confidence in English for Students and Children

Good morning! Respected principal, teachers, and my dear friends. Today I am here to present a speech in front of you on – ‘ Self Confidence’ .

It is freedom from doubt. It is something that needs to be developed internally. It cannot be taught but it is very important for a healthy and positive lifestyle.

It is not so that a confident person will always win and achieve success in life. But a self-confident person will always come over a difficult situation. He/she understands that it’s not always about winning but about learning from your mistakes.

One can improve his/her self-confidence in many ways. The first step is to say what you feel. People shy away when it comes to express one’s opinion. They also find it very difficult to say no to something they don’t like. Saying no to something you don’t like or are not comfortable with is very important. You don’t need to feel guilty about it.

People also face the problem of presumption. This also shakes self- confidence. For example, you are going to a debate competition and you know that the opponent is very strong, you may feel nervous and preassume that you will lose. This can bring negativity and can affect your debate.

Another way to boost your self-confidence is to set realistic goals. If we set our goals too high, it can affect our self-confidence. For example, if you plan to finish a whole coursebook in a day. It is unrealistic. You may not be able to achieve this goal. A whole book cannot be learned in a day. You may feel low when unable to achieve this goal.

Similarly, if you set your goals too low, it also won’t work for your self- confidence. For example, you plan to learn only one question-answer per day, this is very less work to be done to score good marks or to complete your course on time. Hence, you should always set realistic goals.

Remember, self-confidence cannot be built or boost in a day. It takes time. So keep working on your self-confidence and achieve your goals slowly and steadily.

How to Increase Self-Confidence: Choose Your Words Carefully

Five ways to improve your self-talk..

The words we use every day have a profound impact—language shapes our relationships with people and things.

The way you talk to yourself is the way you love yourself—your self-talk shapes your identity .

Building self-confidence requires more than words. However, multiple studies indicate that self-talk can improve your memory , confidence, focus, and more.

The Best Person You Can Talk To

We all struggle with self-confidence from time to time. We forget to take care of ourselves because we don’t think we are worth or it. Or maybe we (wrongly) believe that self-love is selfish. The truth is, to take care of others, you have to put on your oxygen mask first.

Talking to oneself is one of the most natural yet undervalued skills we have. Would you allow anyone else to speak to you the way you speak to yourself?

The quality of your inner speech is critical—positive words generate positive benefits. It stimulates self-reflection, increases motivation , and connect us with our emotions. Research by Canadian professor Alain Morin shows there’s a high correlation between talking to oneself more frequently and a higher self-awareness and self-evaluation.

Most importantly, self-talk can make us feel better about ourselves and instill confidence to get through tough challenges.

Self-talk is the best feedback you can get. By improving your inner-dialogue, you become the best person you can speak to.

Raise Your Words, Raise Yourself

The power of words comes from the beliefs we have in them—we believe and embody our words.

Our brain is "hard-wired" to be negative. Neuroscience shows that the majority of our self-talk is negative. This negativity bias causes the brain to overreact to "bad words." We can overcome this bias by becoming more mindful of the words we choose.

Our words affect our emotions, motivation, and potential accomplishments.

Based on my experience facilitating change leadership workshops, these are the most common (and damaging) "negative words."

  • "I can’t": It’s the belief that you cannot do something, even before you try. It’s not just about low self-confidence. Sometimes, people get caught by a perfectionist mindset —they confuse not being an expert with not being capable of something. The "can’ts" reflect a lack of resilience —we need to learn to fail and try again and again.
  • "I have to": This approach turns regular activities into a burden. We approach everyday chores with the wrong mentality. When you can’t do what you love, you have to learn to love what you do. The "don’t wants" address a broken relationship with simple things in life.
  • "I should": This mindset addresses external pressure—other people’s expectations make us feel guilty and unhappy. It’s the result of other people trying to impose their will over ours—our parents, teachers, friends, bosses, and so on. The "shoulds" represent what others want us to do.

5 Steps to Improve Your Inner Dialogue

1. Awareness

Pay attention to how you talk to yourself and the impact of your words. You can ask a friend to call you out every time you use negative words to describe your life or yourself.

Another approach is to reflect on the words you think when you feel down. Capture those in a notebook and review on a weekly basis. What trends do you observe? What’s the story?

2. Positive Affirmations

Affirmations are phrases that you repeatedly say to yourself. The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a part of our brain that turns those affirmations into part of our identity.

Here are a couple of affirmations for you to practice with, meant to promote a favorable view of life, not to convince you that everything is perfect:

  • “I know who I am, and I am enough.”
  • “It’s OK to be broken. And it’s OK to let the broken parts mend.”
  • “I choose to be present and mindful right now.”
  • “I am in control of the way I respond to the behavior of others.”
  • “I’m grateful for the life I have.”

3. Replace Words

The easiest way to erase certain words from your inner dialogue is to replace them with others.

self confidence speech

Moving forward, practice replacing:

  • “I can’t” with “I will.”
  • “I have to” with “I want to.”
  • “I should” with “I choose to” (this opens the door to say "no" to external expectations).

Try this exercise with a friend or colleague. List all the things you "have to do"—one-at-a-time—and let the person reframe it by replacing “have to” with “want to.”

For example, you say: “I have to do the laundry.” The other person replies, “You want to do the laundry.” Keep doing this with every activity on your list. Listening to other people’s voices reframing your words is a powerful experience!

4. Pause, Reflect, and Talk

As you become more aware of the words you use, practice reflection.

Pause for a couple of seconds. Evaluate your thoughts.

Is that hurtful or helpful?

Reflect on the words you were using. If they hurt you, go back and see how you can "erase-and-replace" those words.

5. Increase Positive Self-Talk

Building a habit takes times—you want to turn the process into something natural. The same happens with self-talk. You’ll see improvements early on. But, once it becomes intuitive, you’ll experience the transforming effect.

As Glen Bassett stated, “If you keep doing what you always have done, you will remain the same person who you always have been.”

Remember: Words are powerful, but don’t expect miracles. New habits form when new strategies are learned and applied. Change takes time and practice. You need to develop awareness before you can implement positive self-talk into your daily routines.

The words you tell yourself can be compassionate or cruel. Treat yourself kindly.

(Essay On Self Confidence in Hindi in 500 Words)

(10 Lines on Essay On Self Confidence in Hindi)
