NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and Humanities streams.

NOC stands for NPTEL Online Certification. NPTEL is now offering online certification courses through its portal https://archive.nptel.ac.in . There are 4wk, 8wk as well as 12wk courses offered twice a year.

The pass criteria for exams is being changed from July 2019. A learner will pass and be certified only if Average assignment score (out of 100) >= 40 AND Final exam score ( out of 100) >= 40. That is, to clear the exam you have to score a minimum of 10 out of 25% in the assignment and 30 out of 75% in the final proctored exam. The pass criteria also depends on the courses. The above mentioned is applicable for most of the courses but for those courses which have non proctored programming exams and for medical courses, the pass criteria is different and will be mentioned in the course announcement page

Step 5 – If the course has content uploaded, you will now be able to see it. Once these steps are carried out, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

No. Joining/enrolling for an NPTEL online course is free. Once enrolled, the videos and associated study material may also be downloaded for free. Learning from the course, submitting assignments, participating in the discussion forum is free. To write the final exam, you need to pay Rs. 1000/- per course. If you are taking exams outside India, please write to [email protected] with the country and city where you will be taking the exam.

There is no specific eligibility criterion for any of the NPTEL online courses. The faculty of a particular course may recommend some basic knowledge of certain topics for a person to fully grasp the contents of a course.

Anyone may join an online course. There is no age limit..

Yes.You may join for any number of NPTEL courses you wish but you can write exams only for a maximum of six courses per semester. You can take one exam in the forenoon session and another during the afternoon session on the same day. 2 exams a day x 3 days = 6 exams in a semester. You cannot take more than 2 exams a day even though you have joined for more courses whose exams fall on the same day. NPTEL will allot the session (Forenoon/Afternoon) and it will be mentioned in the hall ticket. There is no option to change the date of the exams. You need to have the same registered email ID for all courses to have two different sessions on the same day in the same exam centre. NPTEL will allot sessions accordingly and the sessions will not clash.

Once you have enrolled to a course you cannot withdraw from a course. You may choose to "Unsubscribe from Announcement and Forum" which is available in the Progress tab of the respective courses. This way, you will not be receiving email notifications.

Those who have registered for a course will receive a confirmation welcome mail. After that, when the course begins and the weekly lessons are released, you will be notified via e-mail. Also, any news, announcements, etc. will be posted in the Announcement Page of the course. You can now start watching the videos. Please keep checking your course page for updates.

Yes, the assignment scores also contribute to the overall score. 25% of the total score comes from Assignment marks; 75% from final exam.

The final score may be affected as the assignment scores will be counted towards the final exam score. But this will not hamper your writing the certification exam.

You may download the videos and watch them offline. Available on https://nptel.ac.in > Courses , website where the same content will be posted. Also, for certain courses, transcripts are available which are relatively smaller in file size and easier to download.

You have to check with your college/Univerisity if they will take this into consideration and incorporate it into your certificate.

Yes. You may enroll for any online course no matter where you live and go through the course material.

NPTEL conducts the final certification exam as a proctored exam where the candidate has to come in person to a designated centre and write the exam. We do not have a process in place to conduct proctored exam for candidates outside India. Hence you can enroll and study using these courses. If you want to take the exam, you have to travel to India and write the exam in one of the designated exam centres. If you are staying outside India, please write to [email protected] with the country and city where you will be taking the exam.

You will have to check with the authorities at your college/university. For 12 weeks/8 weeks/4 weeks courses, NPTEL recommends 3/2/1 credits respectively. NPTEL will share the e-certificate once the learner has passed, along with the score in the exam and the assignments as well. The university/college may use this information and converts it into their system of grades as per their requirement. No. Certification exams will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday. There will be 2 exam sessions on both days. Morning Session - 9 am to 12 pm Afternoon session - 2 pm to 5 pm You will have to appear at the allotted exam center and produce your Admit Card and Identification Card for verification and take the exam in person.

At the time of exam registration, you will be choosing exam date and centre. Once this data is submitted, you will not be able to go back and change this input. So if you miss the exam, you cannot take it on another date.

There is no option to change the exam for the course which is already registered. You can cancel the exam registration, take the refund which you don’t want and register for another which you wish to take the exam. Please note that you will be able to do so only when the exam registration form is open. Once it is closed, there is no option to make any changes.

Yes. You may participate in 6 online certification exams. Exams are conducted on 3 days which will fall on Saturday and Sunday. There will be 2 exam sessions on both days. So, you can take two exams per day.

Currently, only the centres in the form can be chosen by individuals. If you belong to a college and more than 200 students are appearing for exams on the same date, the college Principal can write to us requesting for a centre in your city and we can try to arrange the same.

If the payment is successful, you will get a confirmation email saying so.

You are not permitted to bring a calculator. An on-screen calculator will be provided during the exam

Calculator, electronic diary, mobile phone, watches, and other electronic gadgets, blank papers, clipboards, log-tables will not be allowed in the examination hall.

For an objective online exam, results and the e-certificate (go to the course at nptel.ac.in/noc) will be available 2-3 weeks after the exam date. For an offline subjective exam (paper and pen), the results and the e-certificate will be made available 5 weeks after the exam.

E-certificate will be issued for those who have cleared the exam, hardcopy won't be issued.

Yes. The score will usually be a combination of assignment and final exam scores, as the course instructor decides.

The e-certificate can be downloaded and printed and used. It is anyway e-verifiable.

At the time of registration of the exam, you will be asked to provide the address where the certificates need to be sent by post. Any request for change in address will not be entertained thereafter. So please give a permanent address while you register for the exam. It cannot be changed once registration is complete.

Within the candidate login, you can log these errors. (http://nptel.ac.in/noc/ > Exam Results login) Or, please take a screen-shot of your certificate and send us an email describing the error, within the stipulated time. If the error is genuine and reported to us within the stipulated time frame, we will re-generate another e-certificate. Our general policy is that certificates once issued will not be replaced. In special cases, we may consider your request if you send us a screen-shot of the damaged certificate.

SWAYAM is the National MOOCs portal being developed by MoE, Govt. of India. All NPTEL online certification courses are SWAYAM courses too, and they are available on the SWAYAM platform. Data Structures and Algorithms Using Python – an NPTEL(Swayam) Exam Experience

Today I want to share my NPTEL exam experience.

Let’s start

Introduction to myself and the exam I took :

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree from Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati. I wrote this NPTEL exam when I’m in my fourth semester.

NPTEL stands for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning – it is an online certification course for free and it is a project of MHRD initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003, to provide quality education to anyone interested in learning from the IITs. The goal was to create web and video courses in all major branches of engineering and physical sciences at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and management courses at the postgraduate level. All courses are completely free to enroll and learn. But if we want certification which shows that we completed the course, we have to pay INR 1000, but this is optional i.e., it completely depends on us whether to write the exam or not. NPTEL provides various courses, among them I took Data Structures and Algorithms using Python.

Exam Pattern :

NPTEL courses are available in 4 weeks, 8weeks, 12weeks also. They provide their courses twice a year.

It consists of Assignments and one online proctored exam. for every week, there will be an assignment, after all the weeks candidate should attempt the online exam. If you select the 8week course they select 6 best assignment scores, or if you select the 12 week course they will select the 8 best assignment scores. Before attempting the online exam, candidates must get the minimum eligibility score from assignments.

The main online proctored exam pattern is as follows :

The exam would contain of total three sections (mostly MCQs) and 25% from assignments and 75% from online exam.

Section I – 2 marks Section II – 2 marks Section III – 2.5 marks or 3 marks Time limit – 3hrs

Preparation Phase :

Firstly I followed the video lectures provided by the NPTEL team, the video lectures are very helpful for me. The professors from IIT’S explained very well. As I have to go to college also, I myself dedicated particular time to prepare for this exam, I dedicated daily 2hrs to prepare for this exam. One thing here is, my seniors told that why you took this course this course is very hard, and I thought like it’s ok, let’s have a try 🙂 .And I started preparing.

Resources I Used:

To prepare for this exam not only listening to the lessons is enough, we must prepare the previous exams question papers also. I searched for some telegram channels which will post the previous exam questions. I started preparing from youtube also, for every week different topics are there, so we need to be updated with every week. I took the notes while following the lectures which helped me for the last minute revision. And also after completing every week they are providing doubts clarification section, from there we can clarify our doubts.

And also as we know that my exam is Data Structures and Algorithms using Python, so I started attempting some moct tests online on Data Structures and Algorithms. I boosted up myself in python also.

Study strategies I followed:

Actually the course I took is eight weeks course, actually I don’t know the importance of this exam, that’s why I didn’t attempted the first 2 weeks assignments. After that my teachers told that it is very important to pass this exam then only you will get credits, then I realised, so it become very complex for me, because I have to score the best in remaining six weeks. Mostly I practiced the assignment questions thoroughly, which helped me to pass the exam. what I want to tell is, just listen to the lectures, clarify your doubts and make your doubts clear and take notes for whatever you learn. Attempt the assignments properly, then you will get good score in assignments.

Taking mock tests helped me to get clarity on the topics.

My experience on the day of the exam :

My exam is in the morning session, and the exam centre is only 3km from my hostel, as I’m staying in the hostel, Me along with my friend went to the exam centre before 2hrs with aadhar card, college id, 2 pens. Actually after I woke up I was in doubt am I able to pass this exam or not, but at the same time, I felt like I prepared well so I can write it well. With that confidence I went to the exam centre.

After going to the exam centre, as usual some verification process like checking identity (either aadhar card or college id), and they had taken my signature and told my exam seating number. The fun fact here is even though it is 2 hrs completed, the exam was not started due to some technical issues, so we are all in relax mood, all our tensions were gone. Actually exam is 9AM to 12PM, but it is started at 11AM.

In that 2hrs I slept in the examination hall for 1hr (^.^) and I revised the concept in my brain for remaining 1hr. And the exam started and I wrote the exam well.

Mostly the questions came from the assignments, that’s why I was able to pass the exam. I attempted mostly all. And I myself kept 30 min to check my answers whether correct or not, so in that 30mins I checked all and completed my session. The fun fact here is except me all my co students gone from the examination hall for first 1hr itself. Only I present in the examination hall for complete 3 hrs. Because I want to utilise time given to me properly.

Challenges I faced during the exam and how I overcame them:

The one challenge that is the most common thing that some nervousness, and it is most common thing for me, but taking deep breath and sitting in a relaxed position can help me from relieving from this. I got some unseen questions during the exam, but I guessed some question by eliminating the irrelevant options.

Results day:

The results came after 3 weeks. And I passed the exam with 53%. It is not an easy task for me to pass in this exam, but I done with it.

Insights I have for future test-takers :

• Some of the insights that I can give to the future test takers are as follows :
• Complete the assignments on time
• Mostly questions come from assignments, so revise the assignments questions and do the model questions also
• Increase your speed of calculations
• Attend mock tests
• Prepare the notes for each topic
• Clarify your doubts in the doubt session

Finally, write your exam with confidence and prepare assignment questions well, and you can got better score than me.

We may have exams in some cities on April 19 and April 26 depending on seat availability on scheduled dates. But again this will be done ensuring we don't conduct exams on election dates in your state.

• We have more than 6 lakh learners registered for April exams and logistics has been a huge challenge. We understand that some of you may need to travel to your native cities to participate in the voting process. Please remember that you selected your exam cities during registration, and it is crucial that you return to these cities to take your exams as scheduled. Since hall ticket and center allocation is under process, exam cities selected by you during exam registration cannot be changed now. 

Hence we kindly request that you make the necessary arrangements to ensure you can both exercise your right to vote and fulfill your academic obligations.

Here is the much-awaited announcement on registering for the Jan 2024 NPTEL course certification exam. 

1. The registration for the certification exam is open only to those learners who have enrolled in the course. 

2. If you want to register for the exam for this course, login here using the same email id which you had used to enroll to the course in Swayam portal. Please note that Assignments submitted through the exam registered email id ALONE will be taken into consideration towards final consolidated score & certification. 

3 . Date of exam: Apr 27, 2024

Choose from the Cities where exam will be conducted: Exam Cities

4. Exam fees: 

If you register for the exam and pay before Feb 12, 2024 - 5:00 PM, Exam fees will be Rs. 1000/- per exam .

5. 50% fee waiver for the following categories: 

Students belonging to the SC/ST category: please select Yes for the SC/ST option and upload the correct Community certificate.

Students belonging to the PwD category with more than 40% disability: please select Yes for the option and upload the relevant Disability certificate. 

6. Last date for exam registration: Feb 16, 2024 - 5:00 PM (Friday). 

7. Between Feb 12, 2024 - 5:00 PM & Feb 16, 2024 - 5:00 PM late fee will be applicable.

8. Mode of payment: Online payment - debit card/credit card/net banking/UPI. 

9. HALL TICKET: 

The hall ticket will be available for download tentatively by 2 weeks prior to the exam date. We will confirm the same through an announcement once it is published. 

10. FOR CANDIDATES WHO WOULD LIKE TO WRITE MORE THAN 1 COURSE EXAM:- you can add or delete courses and pay separately – till the date when the exam form closes. Same day of exam – you can write exams for 2 courses in the 2 sessions. Same exam center will be allocated for both the sessions. 

11. Data changes: 

Last date for data changes: Feb 16, 2024 - 5:00 PM :  

We will charge an additional fee of Rs. 200 to make any changes related to name, DOB, photo, signature, SC/ST and PWD certificates after the last date of data changes.

The following 6 fields can be changed (until the form closes) ONLY when there are NO courses in the course cart. And you will be able to edit those fields only if you: - 

REMOVE unpaid courses from the cart And/or - CANCEL paid courses

3. Are you a person with disabilities? * 

4. Are you a person with disabilities above 40%?

Note: Once you remove or cancel a course, you will be able to edit these fields immediately.

Every domain will comprise Core courses and Elective courses. Once a learner completes the requisite courses as per the mentioned criteria, you will receive a Domain Certificate showcasing your scores and the domain of expertise. Outside India Candidates

Candidates who are residing outside India may also fill the exam form and pay the fees. Mode of exam and other details will be communicated to you separately.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
