California Mission Drawing Guide

Show preview image 1

What educators are saying

Description.

As a former California classroom art teacher, I learned first hand about the 4th grade curriculum that covers the study of California missions every spring.

And as an art teacher, I knew that there was a wonderful opportunity to overlap their studies by not only helping them draw a mission, but draw the specific one they had chosen to study.

This led to my creation of simple line drawings for each mission, on a grid, and then printing the same grid on a paper the students could draw on.

This combination was so successful that from day one, teachers would gush over the results and save a special spot for these drawings every Open House. Even students surprised themselves in what they were able to do, which is all you can ever hope happens in an art room.

The good news is that I expanded this support for drawing missions even further, with this new upgraded ebook. The list includes:

  • COLOR SAMPLE. My finished sample drawing will hopefully inspire students to do their best, most careful work.
  • TUTORIAL. Four steps show the basic process of how to start, and proceed.
  • DESCRIPTION / MATERIALS LIST. Advice on what paper and colored pencils seem to work best.
  • DOT GRID PDF TEMPLATE. Dots leave a much lighter footprint than the previous line grid template, which could easily leave lines that were hard to cover up.
  • LINE ART SAMPLE. Actual size, so students have a clear sample to refer to.
  • COLORING PAGE. Finished early? Color another mission, just for fun.
  • BINDER ART. My finished sample art is used for the cover and spine of my notebook. Print and slide the art into your own white binder to make one that looks just like my photo above.
  • MISSON TUTORIALS INCLUDED:
  • Mission La Purisima
  • Mission Nuestra Soledad
