When we think of billionaire men, we conjure images of men stepping out of five-star hotels in suits and getting into fancy chauffeur-driven cars. From their clothes and accessories to their cars, everything belongs to high-end brands. Such men hold immense power and this is often conveyed in their interactions with people.

His wardrobe is similar to what your dad wears to the office. He drives his own car, insists on not getting special treatment in public and bears a humble countenance at all times. His humility is not just reserved for the camera and goes beyond just maintaining a good public image.

1. He is a risk taker  

Ratan Tata tapped into the pulse of Indian masses to understand their needs and daily lives. He realized that many Indian middle class families dream of buying their own car but often don’t have the means to do so. Hence, he came up with Tata Nano, the ‘one lakh car’, in 2009. Within one week of its launch, the company’s website crashed due to high interest and publicity.   

Though the car is no longer under production, he fulfilled the dreams of many families of having their own car without burning their pockets.

In the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks, Ratan Tata set up the ‘Taj public Service Welfate Trust’ to help the victims and their families get rehabilitated. He visited familes of 80 Taj employees who were either killed or injured during the terrorist attacks. Moreover, since the Taj hotel fell under Tata Group, he played a significant role in re-building it and retaining its historical significance for the people of Mumbai.

Ratan Tata donated $50 million to his alma mater, Harvard Business School for building an executive center. MIT’s Tata Centre of Technology and Design was also formed by him. He made IIT Bombay its highest donation ever by donating Rs 95 crore to form the Tata Centre for Technology and Design, similar to MIT, that would develop engineering and design solutions for those with limited resources. He also donated Rs 1500 crore towards India’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.   

The list of Ratan Tata’s donations are endless, but he has never harped on his generosity.

Ratan Tata started his journey at the Tata Group as an apprentice on the shop floor of the Jamshedpur plant. He built his career from the ground up, working in different companies within the Tata Group and eventually became the director of National Radio and Electronics (NELCO). It took him nine years to move from an apprentice to a director, however he never shied away from working hard and these years of struggle have shaped him into the man he is today.  

Interestingly, Ratan Tata’s career didn’t start with the Tata Group. His first job was at IBM, but JRD Tata was disappointed that on returning from his university in the US, he didn’t join Tata. He asked Ratan Tata for a resume, which he typed on a typewriter in the IBM office and the rest is history.

It’s no secret that Ratan Tata loves dogs. One of his best friends is ‘Goa’, a dog who rides the elevator with him to his office every morning and sits with him through all his meetings. Tata Sons' global HQ at Bombay House is home to several strays who are looked after by the group. Ratan Tata also found his assistant through their mutual love of dogs. 

Shantanu Naidu was deeply impacted by the death of a stray dog in a car accident in Mumbai. He realised that most of these accidents happened because the driver couldn’t see the dog during dark hours. As a solution, he created dog collars with reflectors to alert the drivers of dogs standing on roads at night.   

Impressed by his idea and willingness to help dogs, Ratan Tata funded his project, Moto Paws, and hired Naidu as an assistant.   

Ratan Tata breaks the mold of a popular businessman who uses his wealth to feed his vanity and bolster his power. He’s a man who lives for others and has worked endlessly to provide for those who have limited resources. May his story inspire everyone to make the world a better place to be in.

Ratan Tata was born into an old Parsi family of Bombay (present-day Mumbai), the first child of Soonoo & Naval Hormusji Tata. Ratan’s childhood was troubled. his parents separating in the mid-1940s, when he was about seven and his younger brother Jimmy was five. His mother moved out and both Ratan and his brother were raised by their grandmother Lady Navajbai. He was schooled at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. In 1962, after graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Architecture and Structural Engineering, Ratan joined the family business. Ratan turned down a job offer from IBM, following the advice of J.R.D. Tata, and entered the family business. Ratan joined the Tata Group in December 1962, when he was sent to Jamshedpur to work at Tata Steel. He worked on the floor along with other blue-collar employees, shoveling limestone and handling the blast furnaces. In 1971, Ratan was appointed the Director-in Charge of ‘The National Radio & Electronics Company Limited (Nelco)’, a company that was in dire financial difficulty. Ratan suggested that the company invest in developing high-technology products, rather than in consumer electronics. J. R. D. followed Ratan’s suggestions. From 1972 to 1975; Nelco eventually grew and recovered its losses.

In 1977, Ratan was entrusted with Empress Mills, a textile mill controlled by the Tatas. When he took charge of the company, it was one of the few sick units in the Tata group. Ratan managed to turn it around and even declared a dividend. In 1998, Tata Motors introduced his brainchild, the Tata Indica.On January 31st, 2007, under Ratan Tata’s chairmanship, Tata Sons successfully acquired Corus Group, an Anglo-Dutch steel and aluminum producer. With the acquisition, Ratan Tata became a celebrated personality in Indian corporate business culture. The merger created the fifth largest steel producing entity in the world.Ratan Tata was honored by the Government of India with the Padma Bhushan on 26th January 2000, on the occasion of the 50th Republic Day of India.

He serves in senior capacities in various organizations in India and he is a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. In March 2006 Tata was honored by Cornell University as the 26th Robert S. Hatfield Fellow in Economic Education, considered the highest honor the university awards to distinguished individuals from the corporate sector. He recently received an honorary doctorate from the London School of Economics and listed among the 25 most powerful people in business named by Fortune magazine in November 2007. Ratan Tata is indeed a visionary and has made India proud. With novel ideas like the Tata Nano priced at a lakh only, more people can afford to buy a car. As we talk about the term role model, every one of us has someone in our minds. The person who has a huge impact on our lives. A role model can simply be anyone from our family, our friends, or even a famous personality. The qualities of a role model that motivates us to become a better version of ourselves can be the values and beliefs they practice and preach. Here are some lines on my role model.

In this essay we are going to talk about the My Role Model. A role model is someone who can inspire people to bring positive changes in their lives and to achieve their dreams. A role model is a person who is admired by everyone in society, people want to emulate their role models and contribute something to society in the same way their role model did. A role model is someone who brought a positive change in society and contributed something to it.  People look up to role models in the hope to become like them someday.

Short Essay on my role model

My role model is sir Ratan Tata is one of the most inspiring and intellectual personalities in the world. He is one of the most successful and amazing entrepreneurs in the world. He was born into a wealthy family, he never needed to work so hard as he already had everything, but he never had that mindset he never took the resources he had for granted and despite being born in a wealthy family he worked very hard and diligently to make Tata group what it is today.

He gave new height to the already successful Tata groups and despite gaining what he has gained he still actively works even though he is eight three years of age. Most middle-class people also stop working after sixty years but Sir Ratan Tata despite gaining so much in his life is still striving for more this is what makes him special and different from other people.

Although he was born in the Tata group he refused to feel entitled for the position of chairman of the Tata groups and rather than being as heir he earned his position in his company by working and learning everything about it for ten years before becoming the chairman of the company. This quality of him of not feeling entitled for anything is what defines his class and legacy, he believes that everything should be earned and not inherited.

One more factor that makes Ratan Tata sir is his humility. Despite being so successful and owning a billion-dollar company, Ratan Tata is extremely modest and manifests humility. One great example of this was shown when Tata motors released Indica which was India’s first made-in-India car, but due to several reasons, the car couldn’t perform well enough. So Ratan Tata went to the owner of ford motors and asked him to buy the Indica line, but the owner of ford motors humiliated him and told him that Indians will never be good enough to manufacture cars. This incident made Ratan Tata change his mind and he then worked very hard to make Tata motors the best automobile manufacturing company in India.

Some years later Ford motors were about to go bankrupt and then it was no other than Sir Ratan Tata who saved ford motors from going bankrupt by buying Jaguar and Land rover. If he wanted he could have humiliated Bill ford but he didn’t as he is a gentleman. Bill ford then said he did a great favor on them by buying the jaguar. This incident just proves one thing that despite people doesn’t treat you right you should not treat them badly. 

Apart from being an extremely hardworking and successful entrepreneur Sir Ratan Tata is also a philanthropist. He does heavy charity and also most donated 60% of his wealth for various causes this is the reason that he couldn’t make it to the list of the world’s richest men despite having a company of such high revenue. He is not fond of money and wants to help people, this is  why he contributes so much to education and healthcare his selfless love for his country is also and his non-greedy nature are also the qualities of a role model. Because of his contributions to society, many underprivileged people receive free healthcare and education. His contributions are really incredible .

These qualities of Sir Ratan Tata make him a role model whom I look up to and want to emulate in my life. We should all have a role model like him whom we can look up to and one day use the wisdom given by them to bring positive changes in the world.

Recently, a clip of ratan tata's speech has surfaced on social media platforms in which the 84-year-old business tycoon talked about what really excites him or his greatest pleasure..

Ratan Tata is truly a person who is one of a kind. Although being the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group of Industries, he is known for many other reasons, one among them is motivating speeches and quotes. He is a philanthropist who donated huge sum of money for pressing causes.

Recently, a clip of his speech has surfaced on social media platforms in which the 84-year-old business tycoon talked about what really excites him or his greatest pleasure.

“The greatest pleasure I've had is trying to do something, everybody says ‘could not be done’,” Ratan Tata said in a video posted by RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka on his official Twitter handle.

Now, the industrialist's simple act of humility and his motivational speeches has won the hearts of the internet with people calling him 'Legend'. The video has garnered numerous reactions in the comment box.

One user said, "True. So when the Automobile industry told Ratan Tata that manufacturing a passenger car under Rs. 1,00,000 was not possible, he went ahead and manufactured the "impossible". He executed the project very passionately and proved all those who said "it can't be done" wrong."
