Pakistan’s nuclear program would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan. Dr Khan is often referred to as the ‘father of the Pakistani bomb’.

Born in 1936 in Bhopal, India, Dr Khan moved to Pakistan in 1952. He studied metallurgy at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, before returning to Pakistan in 1976 to work on the country’s nuclear program.

Under Dr Khan’s leadership, Pakistan successfully developed its first nuclear weapon in 1998. Since then, he has been hailed as a national hero and was even given a lifetime achievement award by the Pakistani government in 1999. However, Dr Khan has also been embroiled in controversy.

In 2004, he was accused of selling nuclear secrets to Iran, Libya and North Korea. He was placed under house arrest in 2006 but was later freed in 2009.

Khan is a pioneer in the field of nuclear physics and has been awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award in Pakistan. He was also named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world.

اس دنیا میں ہر شخص خدا کے بعد ڈاکٹر پر بھروسہ کرتا ہے۔ ہر انسان کا ماننا ہے کہ انسان کی جان یا تو خدا بچا سکتا ہے اور یا تو ڈاکٹر۔ ویسے تو زندگی اور موت سب اللہ کے ہاتھ میں ہے پھر بھی جب تک ڈاکٹر اپنے منہ سے نہ کہہ دے کوئی بھی شخص ہار نہیں مانتا۔

جس طرح سے سپاہی اپنے ملک کی حفاظت کرتے ہیں اسی طرح ڈاکٹر ہماری صحت کی حفاظت کرتے ہیں۔ جس طرح سے پروفیسر اور انجینئر اس دنیا میں اپنا اہم مقام رکھتے ہیں اسی طرح سے ڈاکٹر بھی اپنا ایک اہم مقام رکھتے ہیں۔ ڈاکٹر کو ہمارے معاشرے میں عزت کے نظریہ سے دیکھا جاتا ہے۔

ہمارے ملک میں بہت سے اسپتالوں کے ساتھ ساتھ آیوروید کے ڈاکٹر اور ایلوپیتھ کے الگ الگ ڈاکٹر ہوتے ہیں۔ ڈاکٹر کا کام بیماری کو ٹھیک کرنا ہے۔ جب بھی ہم بیمار پڑتے ہیں ہمیں ڈاکٹر کے پاس جانا پڑتا ہے۔ بخار سے لے کر اس دنیا میں جتنی بھی خطرناک بیماریاں ہوتی ہیں ان سب سے ڈاکٹر ہی ہمیں نجات دلاتا ہے۔

چھوٹی چھوٹی بیماریوں کا کوئی بھی ڈاکٹر علاج کر لیتا ہے لیکن حادثہ ہونے پر٬ گردے خراب ہونے پر اور آنکھوں کی روشنی ختم ہونے پر انسان کو اچھے سرجن ڈاکٹر کا ہی سہارا لینا پڑتا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر آپریشن کے ذریعہ انسان کو نئی زندگی دیتا ہے۔

ڈاکٹر کی زندگی ہی خدمت اور مشق کرنے کی ہے۔ کبھی کبھی آپریشن کے وقت ڈاکٹر کو کئی گھنٹے کام کرنا پڑ جاتا ہے۔ وہ آرام سے سو بھی نہیں پاتے۔ سرکاری اسپتالوں میں ڈاکٹروں کو بہت سے مریضوں کو ایک ساتھ دیکھنا پڑ جاتا ہے۔ مریض کی حالت نازک ہونے کی وجہ سے رات رات میں کئی بار ان کی جانچ کرنی پڑ جاتی ہے۔

لیکن آج کا دور ایسا آ گیا ہے کہ ہر ڈاکٹر صرف پیسہ کمانا چاہتا ہے۔ بہت سے ڈاکٹر اتنی فیس لیتے ہیں کہ غریب انسان پیسے کی وجہ سے نہ تو فیس کا انتظام کر پاتا ہے اور نہ ہی دوا کے پیسوں کا۔ اور اسی وجہ سے یا تو وہ اپنی بیماری کو لگاتار جھیلتا رہتا ہے یا پھر اس بیماری کی وجہ سے اپنی زندگی کھو دیتا ہے۔

ایک اچھے ڈاکٹر کو اپنی فیس ایک ایسے دائرے میں رکھنی چاہیے کہ کوئی بھی غریب ہو یا امیر ان سے اپنی بیماری کا علاج آسانی سے کروا سکے۔ ایک ڈاکٹر کا سلوک بھی اچھا ہونا چاہیے کیونکہ مریض کی آدھی طبیعت ڈاکٹر کے دلاسے اور اچھے اخلاق سے ہی ٹھیک ہو جاتی ہے۔ ڈاکٹر کا کام صرف پیسہ کمانا نہیں ہوتا بلکہ وہ ایک انسان کی آخری دم تک کی امید ہوتا ہے۔ اس لئے کسی بھی ڈاکٹر کو اپنے مریضوں کی امیدوں کو نہیں توڑنا چاہیے۔

جو لوگ ایلوپیتھ ڈاکٹر کی فیس نہیں دے سکتے اور غریب ہونے کی وجہ سے مہنگی دوائیں بھی نہیں خرید سکتے انہیں ہومیوپیتھ یا آیوروید ڈاکٹروں کے پاس جانا چاہیے۔ ان ڈاکٹروں کی فیس بہت ہی کم اور دوائیں بھی کافی سستی ہوتی ہیں۔ یہاں پر انسان اپنی ہر بیماری کا علاج بڑی آسانی سے کروا سکتا ہے۔

بہت سے ڈاکٹر مذہبی ڈسپنسریوں میں مریضوں کی خدمت کرتے ہیں وہ بہت کم پیسے لیتے ہیں۔ ایسے ڈاکٹر تعریف کے حقدار ہوتے ہیں۔ صحیح معنوں میں اگر دیکھا جائے تو ان کے اندر انسانیت ہے۔

ڈاکٹر اور مریضوں کا بہت ہی گہرا رشتہ ہوتا ہے کیونکہ ایک شخص اپنے سگے رشتے داروں سے اتنی امید نہیں لگاتا جتنا کہ وہ ایک ڈاکٹر سے لگا تا ہے۔ اس لئے سبھی ڈاکٹروں کو ایمانداری کے ساتھ اپنے مریضوں کو ٹھیک کرنا چاہیے نہ کہ پیسوں کی لالچ میں آکر ان کے مرض کو اور بڑھانا چاہیے۔

Surgeon General Calls for Warning Labels on Social Media Platforms

The U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, announced on Monday that he would push for a warning label on social media platforms advising parents that using the platforms might damage adolescents’ mental health.

Warning labels — like those that appear on tobacco and alcohol products — are one of the most powerful tools available to the nation’s top health official, but Dr. Murthy cannot unilaterally require them; the action requires approval by Congress.

The proposal builds on several years of escalating warnings from the surgeon general. In a May 2023 advisory, he recommended that parents immediately set limits on phone use, and urged Congress to swiftly develop health and safety standards for technology platforms.

He also called on tech companies to make changes: to share internal data on the health impact of their products; to allow independent safety audits; and restrict features like push notifications, autoplay and infinite scroll, which he says “prey on developing brains and contribute to excessive use.”

In an interview, Dr. Murthy said he had been deeply frustrated by the platforms’ reluctance to do so.

“I don’t think we can solely rely on the hope that the platforms can fix this problem on their own,” he said. “They’ve had 20 years.”
