Intriguingly, Diplomatic immunity is a crucial aspect of international law that ensures diplomats can carry out their duties without fear of interference or harassment from the host country. It extends not only to the person of the diplomat but also to their assets, including property, vehicles, and documents. The principle of diplomatic immunity is enshrined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, which sets out the rights and privileges of diplomats and their families while serving in a foreign country. One of the key aspects of diplomatic immunity is the protection of diplomatic premises and assets from search, seizure, or entry by the host country’s authorities. This includes the immunity of the diplomatic vehicle fleet, such as the presidential fleet in the case of Nigeria, from arbitrary actions by the host country’s authorities. All-India essay competition for school students on the cards

The competition aims to give the students of classes 8 to 12 an opportunity to voice their ideas..

To inculcate the habit of reading and writing among the school students, Leaders For Tomorrow Foundation (LFTF) and Voice Of Kids (VoK) is organising an essay-writing contest for school students on the theme of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a press release issued by the organisers.

LFTF is a not-for-profit youth movement while the VoK is a platform for schoolchildren to voice their opinion on important issues.

The competition aims to give the students of classes 8 to 12 an opportunity to voice their ideas and to help work on the social issues that they come across in their day-to-day lives.

The winners will be selected on the basis of understanding of the problem, selection of topic, feasibility of the idea suggested and writing skills.

The students from across the country can register for the competition by March 15, 2021, with the last date for submissions being March 31. The results of the competition will be announced on May 15.

The winners will be selected at the national, state and school levels.

The top three winners will get ₹ .20,000, ₹ 15,000, and ₹ 10,000, respectively, in addition to other prizes such as three full scholarships for a German language course offered by Goethe-Institut, full scholarships for writing and reporting programmes offered by Development Channel, certificates, cash awards and medals.

Schools with over 50 participants will receive special recognition for the best three entries from each of these schools. In this edition, the Korean Culture Centre is the principal partner and an additional round of the essay contest will be held for the top 100 contestants.

The top two winners will get a fully sponsored week-long victory trip to South Korea. The top 100 participants will get an opportunity to get trained as student reporters. The winning essays at the national and state levels will be published in VoK.

National Essay Competition for School Students by Press Club of India & Voice of Kids

The Leaders For Tomorrow National Essay Writing Competition is a national level competition to promote reading and writing habits among school students of class 8 to 12, with a larger goal of improving their awareness about development issues. The competition is organized jointly by Leaders For Tomorrow Foundation, Press Club of India and Voice of Kids. Here is an opportunity for young students to pen down their ideas while showcasing their literary skills. In this edition of the  competition, we have partnered with the Korean Cultural Centre, Goethe – Institut and Development Channel.

TOPICS FOR THE COMPETITION :

Participants can write the essay on any major development issue faced by India with respect to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The essay should identify a problem and explore potential solutions.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has drastically changed the traditional model of education. Suggest

possible ways we can achieve the sustainable development goal of quality education for all,

whilst taking into account the changes that the pandemic has brought about.

Achieving the SDG of Gender Equality is vital for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Critically analyse the role of the school and family in achieving gender equality.

77% of the waste in India is disposed of in open dumps, 18% is composted and only around 5% is recycled. Discuss this issue in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals of Climate Action and Responsible Consumption and Production.

Note : Participants can also choose any of the topics mentioned above for their essay.

About the Competition

Press Club of India and Leaders For Tomorrow Foundation, along with Voice Of Kids, have launched India’s largest Essay Writing competition for high school students on the theme of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The primary aim of this competition is to inculcate the habit of reading and writing among school children and youth. The competition aims to give high school students (from classes 8 to 12) an opportunity to voice their ideas and to help work on the social issues that they come across in their day-to-day lives. Why you should submit to writing contests

Submitting to poetry competitions and free writing contests in 2024 is absolutely worth your while as an aspiring author: just as your qualifications matter when you apply for a new job, a writing portfolio that boasts published works and award-winning pieces is a great way to give your writing career a boost. And not to mention the bonus of cash prizes!

That being said, we understand that taking part in writing contests can be tough for emerging writers. First, there’s the same affliction all writers face: lack of time or inspiration. Entering writing contests is a time commitment, and many people decide to forego this endeavor in order to work on their larger projects instead — like a full-length book. Second, for many writers, the chance of rejection is enough to steer them clear of writing contests. 

But we’re here to tell you that two of the great benefits of entering writing contests happen to be the same as those two reasons to avoid them.

When it comes to the time commitment: yes, you will need to expend time and effort in order to submit a quality piece of writing to competitions. That being said, having a hard deadline to meet is a great motivator for developing a solid writing routine.

Think of entering contests as a training session to become a writer who will need to meet deadlines in order to have a successful career. If there’s a contest you have your eye on, and the deadline is in one month, sit down and realistically plan how many words you’ll need to write per day in order to meet that due date — and don’t forget to also factor in the time you’ll need to edit your story!

In regards to the fear of rejection, the truth is that any writer aspiring to become a published author needs to develop relatively thick skin. If one of your goals is to have a book traditionally published, you will absolutely need to learn how to deal with rejection, as traditional book deals are notoriously hard to score. If you’re an indie author, you will need to adopt the hardy determination required to slowly build up a readership.

The good news is that there’s a fairly simple trick for learning to deal with rejection: use it as a chance to explore how you might be able to improve your writing.

In an ideal world, each rejection from a publisher or contest would come with a detailed letter, offering construction feedback and pointing out specific tips for improvement. And while this is sometimes the case, it’s the exception and not the rule.

Still, you can use the writing contests you don’t win as a chance to provide yourself with this feedback. Take a look at the winning and shortlisted stories and highlight their strong suits: do they have fully realized characters, a knack for showing instead of telling, a well-developed but subtly conveyed theme, a particularly satisfying denouement?

The idea isn’t to replicate what makes those stories tick in your own writing. But most examples of excellent writing share a number of basic craft principles. Try and see if there are ways for you to translate those stories’ strong points into your own unique writing.

Finally, there are the more obvious benefits of entering writing contests: prize and publication. Not to mention the potential to build up your readership, connect with editors, and gain exposure.

After you submit to a writing competition in 2024

It’s exciting to send a piece of writing off to a contest. However, once the initial excitement wears off, you may be left waiting for a while. Some writing contests will contact all entrants after the judging period — whether or not they’ve won. Other writing competitions will only contact the winners. 

Here are a few things to keep in mind after you submit:

Many writing competitions don’t have time to respond to each entrant with feedback on their story. However, it never hurts to ask! Feel free to politely reach out requesting feedback — but wait until after the selection period is over.

If you’ve submitted the same work to more than one writing competition or literary magazine, remember to withdraw your submission if it ends up winning elsewhere.

After you send a submission, don’t follow it up with a rewritten or revised version. Instead, ensure that your first version is thoroughly proofread and edited. If not, wait until the next edition of the contest or submit the revised version to other writing contests.

Essay Writing Competition 2024 - Final Result & Report

Overview:  The fourth annual Experience Japan National Level Essay Writing Competition  has drawn to a successful close, marking another milestone in the event’s illustrious journey. Since its inception in 2021, amidst the global upheaval caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the competition has steadfastly pursued its mission to enrich students’ understanding of Japanese culture and fortify the bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Japan.

This Year’s Event:  The 2024 edition of the competition commenced on April 1st , with the registration and submission portal welcoming entries until May 7th . The response was nothing short of extraordinary, with 2,749 applications  pouring in from 199 schools  across India and Oman. Of these, 2,298  were validated with official participation IDs, setting the stage for a vibrant contest of ideas and expression.

Categories and Topics:   The competition was segmented into three categories, each with its own set of topics and word limits:

Category 1: Primary (Grade 4 – Grade 5)  

Topic:  भारतीयों के बीच जापानी एनिमेशन की लोकप्रियता (Popularity of Japanese Animation among Indians)

Word Limit:  250-350

Total Entries:  514

Award Winners:  9

Category 2: Junior (Grade 6 – Grade 8)  

Topic:  जापान: सस्ंकृति और परंपरा की एक चित्र यवनिका (Japan: A Tapestry of Culture and Tradition)

Word Limit:  400-500

Total Entries:  897

Category 3: Senior (Grade 9 – Grade 12)  

Topic:  भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था के विकास में जापान का योगदान (Contribution of Japan in the growth of Indian Economy)

Judging Process:  The jury, tasked with the formidable challenge of assessing the essays, embarked on a three-level checking process  on May 11, 2024 , concluded on June 2, 2024 . This meticulous evaluation was designed to ensure fairness and a comprehensive review of the participants’ scholarly research and eloquent writing.

Results and Recognition:  The results from the final level of checking have now been finalized, heralding the end of a journey that has tested the participants’ intellect and creativity. In honor of their achievements, certificates and awards will be distributed to the winners’ respective schools in the last week of June .

School authorities are requested to oversee the distribution of these accolades and to document the occasion by submitting photographs of the award ceremony to [email protected] .

National Essay Contest

National Essay Contest is organized in an effort to harness the energy, creativity, and initiative of Pakistan’s youth in promoting a culture of peace and sustainable development. It also aims to inspire society to learn from young minds and to think about how each of us can make a difference in the world.

A national essay competition is a contest that invites participants from a specific country to submit an original essay on a particular topic or theme. The competition is usually open to students, professionals, or anyone interested in writing. The winner(s) may receive a prize or recognition for their work, and the competition aims to promote writing skills, critical thinking, and creativity.

Why the National Essay Contest?

Essay competitions are held for a variety of reasons. They can provide a platform for students and writers to showcase their skills and gain recognition for their work. Essay competitions can also encourage critical thinking, research, and writing, helping to develop these important skills in participants. Additionally, essay competitions can raise awareness about important issues and topics, and promote discussion and debate among the wider community. Finally, some essay competitions offer prizes or other incentives, which can be a motivating factor for participants.

Rules and Regulations

1. Eligibility: The contest is open to individuals of all ages residing within the national boundaries. Participants must be citizens or legal residents of the country. Employees, relatives, or affiliates of the organizing committee and sponsors are ineligible. 2. Theme:  Essays must adhere to the specified theme provided by the contest organizers. Creativity and unique perspectives on the theme are encouraged. 3. Submission Guidelines: Entries must be submitted electronically through the designated online portal or email address. The preferred format is a typed document in a standard word processing software. Submissions must be original and previously unpublished. 4. Word Limit: Essays should not exceed the specified word limit, with a tolerance of +/- 10%. Submissions deviating significantly from the limit may face disqualification. 5. Language: All entries must be submitted in the official language(s) specified by the organizers. Translations of non-English entries should be provided. 6. Deadline: Submissions must be received by the specified deadline. Late entries will not be considered. 7. Plagiarism:  Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. All entries will be subject to plagiarism checks, and any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification. 8. Judging Criteria:  Entries will be evaluated based on originality, creativity, adherence to the theme, clarity of expression, and overall impact. The decision of the judging panel is final and binding. 9. Multiple Entries:  Participants may submit multiple entries, but each entry must be unique and adhere to the specified guidelines. 10. Awards and Recognition:  Winners will be announced on the specified date. Prizes, if any, will be awarded to the top entries as determined by the judging panel. Winning essays may be published or featured on the contest website or in related publications. 11. Notification of Winners:  Winners will be notified via the contact information provided during submission. If a winner cannot be reached within a specified period, an alternative winner may be selected. 12. Rights and Permissions:  By submitting an entry, participants grant the contest organizers the right to publish and showcase the work, with proper attribution. 13. Confidentiality:  Judges and organizers will treat all submissions with confidentiality. Only winning entries may be publicly disclosed. 14. Contact Information:  Ensure that contact information provided during submission is accurate. Inquiries regarding submission status can be made after the judging process is complete. 15. Disqualification:  Entries not adhering to the rules and guidelines may be disqualified. Any attempt to influence the judging process may result in disqualification. 16. Amendments:  The organizing committee reserves the right to amend or add rules if necessary. Participants will be notified of any changes in a timely manner.

By participating in the National Essay Contest, all entrants agree to abide by these rules and regulations. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify participants who violate these rules or engage in any form of misconduct during the contest.

Shri Ram Chandra Mission is a non-profit educational and spiritual service organization. It has been promoting heart-based living through meditation as a means to universal peace and harmony for over 75 years since its inception in 1945. It is one of 1600 NGOs associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information. The All India Essay Writing Event had been the flagship event of The Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) for over three decades and was organized in partnership with United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC) for several years since 2005 reaching out to over 25,000 institutions in India. The event was renamed the HEARTFULNESS ESSAY EVENT in 2019 and was launched globally for the first time in 2020 in collaboration with UNESCO MGIEP (Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development).

The Event this year is being organized in collaboration with THE COMMONWEALTH. This year marks the thirty-second successive year of the Event.

The Heartfulness Education Trust (HET) has designed a variety of programs for youth including The Heartfulness Way Curriculum for junior school students aimed at developing in them an understanding and acceptance of core human values (as recommended in the report submitted to UNESCO by the International Commission on Education for the Twenty First Century), Brighter Minds for development of cognitive and intuitive faculties, a life skills program called HELP for senior school students and an initiative called Heartful Campus for University students. While education helps us to develop our physical and intellectual capabilities to their optimum extent and prepares us to thrive in a competitive world, there is one aspect of our development that does not often receive due attention– the development of our inner Being. Without the synchronous development of body, mind, and heart our evolution as human beings remains incomplete. It is therefore balance, in addition to excellence, that you must strive for - the balance between mind and heart, the outer and the inner, and, between thinking and feeling. Through the Heartfulness Essay Event, we invite you to tap into your inner space, tune in to the soft voice of the heart that never fails to guide and inspire, and express in words your experience related to the theme of this year’s Event. We encourage you thus to begin the practice of referring to the heart more and more.

In Guidelines for Participation : ( Essay submissions from institution)

To participate in the Event please follow the guidelines below :

A. Institutional Participation.

All institutions interested in participating in the event must Register the details of their institution on our website. ( hfn.link/essayevent )

• Once registered on our website, the registration details and a link for students to submit essays will be sent to the registered email id.

• The link for submission needs to be shared with the students for uploading their essays.

• The student is expected to go through the guidelines for submission. Select the topic and language according to his/her age. Write/type the essay on A4 size paper. Scan the essay ensuring file size less than 3MB. The scanned document has to be uploaded using the submission link that has been shared after entering his/her details.

• The institution may collect the physical essays, and scan and upload the essays on behalf of the students using an institution admin login.

• The institution may write to us requesting login credentials at [email protected]

• A login credential for the institution will be provided to help the coordinator submit/manage all the essay submissions made using the institution’s email id.

B. Direct participation

All youth between the age of 14-25 but not enrolled in any institution are also eligible to participate in the event as Direct Participants. The direct submission link will open on 30th August 2024.

To participate in the event follow the guidelines for submission of essays.

Guidelines for Submission of Essays:

a. Participants may select any one of the 12 optional languages to write the essay on the topic specified for their Category.

b. The essay must be typed or legibly handwritten on A4-size paper. Essays may be handwritten in black or blue ink or computer-typed in a relevant prescribed script/font for each language.

c. The Participant’s name, Father’s Name, Age, and Name of Institution must be written on every page of the essay.

d. The word limit for Category 1 ( Ages -14 -18 ) is 500 and must be strictly adhered to.

e. The word limit for Category 2 (Ages – 19-25 ) is 750 and must be strictly adhered to.

f. Please mention the total number of words of the essay after the concluding paragraph.

g. Submitted entries must not bear any appeals, illustrations or slogans.

h. The scanned copy of the essay (Max size 3 MB) must be uploaded on our website. Link : hfn.link/essayevent.

i. The details for submission of the essay is available for download in the “Guidelines for Submission“ section of the website.

j. In case of submission of essays through the institution, please check if your institution has registered. You may search for the registered institution on our website. Check with your institution coordinator for the submission link and the mode of submission. You may use the submission link or submit your essay to the coordinator of your institution as decided by your institution.

Evaluation Criterion for essays in both Categories

Participating students have the option to carry out research on the theme as it is not an on-the-spot competition. However, all submitted essays must necessarily be the original work of the author and references or quotations therein must be duly acknowledged.

a. The evaluation of all submitted entries will be carried out by a jury for each of the languages based on the following criterion :

1. Theme introduction/interpretation

: Weight 10%

2. Structure and flow

3. Language

4. Originality

: Weight 20%

5. Relevance of ideas to the theme

: Weight 40%

6. Research/attention to details

: Weight 5%

7. Conclusion

b. To fulfill the purpose of this Event, the essay must reflect the author’s personal experience or views on the topic. Originality and relevance of ideas to the topic carry the maximum weightage.

c. Essays plagiarized from books or the internet will be rejected.

d. All awards will be subject to the sole discretion of the jury and their decision will be final.

e. The intent of the information provided in the English version of the Information Leaflet and flyer shall prevail over all other translated versions.

Awards and recognitions for the Essay Event

For individual participant

A Winner and a Runner- up : in each of the 12 authorized languages in each category will receive a trophy and certificate.

Certificates with Rank : Essays ranked from third to the tenth position in each of the 12 languages in each category will be awarded mementos and certificates stating the rank.

Merit Certificates : An E- Merit Certificate will be awarded to the 10% of entries shortlisted by the jury for the final round of selection in each of the 12 languages in both categories.

Certificate of Participation : E-certificates will be awarded to all participants who fulfill the participation criterion as per the guidelines.

Some participants may be required to undertake an interview by the jury by telephone or a video call as a final round of selection for the top awards. The jury will have the discretion to accept or disqualify any of the submitted essays and their decision will be final.
