Multiplication Tables Online practice
On this page, you can practice any combination of the multiplication tables — very helpful for students in elementary and middle school. You can practice any single times table (such as multiplication by 9), or several tables (such as tables of 2 and 5), or all of them.
You can choose timed or untimed practice, the number of practice problems, and which exact times tables you'd like to work on.

Times tables: 3, 6 and 9, and the relationship between them
Spine 2: Multiplication and Division – Topic 2.8
Introduction
Build up the three/six/nine times table; using different structures/interpretations of multiplication and division, solve problems related to these tables; explore connections between the three, six and nine times tables.
Teaching points
- Teaching point 1 : Counting in multiples of three can be represented by the three times table. Adjacent multiples of three have a difference of three. Facts from the three times table can be used to solve multiplication and division problems with different structures.
- Teaching point 2 : Counting in multiples of six can be represented by the six times table. Adjacent multiples of six have a difference of six. Facts from the six times table can be used to solve multiplication and division problems with different structures.
- Teaching point 3 : Products in the six times table are double the products in the three times table; products in the three times table are half of the products in the six times table.
- Teaching point 4 : Counting in multiples of nine can be represented by the nine times table. Adjacent multiples of nine have a difference of nine. Facts from the nine times table can be used to solve multiplication and division problems with different structures.
- Teaching point 5 : Products in the nine times table are triple the products in the three times table. Products that are in the three, six and nine times tables share the same factors.
- Teaching point 6 : Divisibility rules can be used to find out whether a given number is divisible (to give a whole number) by three, six or nine.

What is it? I am one of those teachers who believes that knowledge of times tables is absolutely fundamental to a child’s success and enjoyment of mathematics. Without such knowledge readily available, the chance of grasping and thriving with concepts such as fractions, equations, negative numbers, and may other areas of mathematics are drastically reduced.
But knowing times tables by heart is not enough. We want our students to be flexible with the facts that they recall from memory. So, for example, if they know immediately that 7 x 6 = 42, what else do they know? What else can they do with that fact? Each page gives children a known fact about the 7 times table, and then calculations where the numbers have been manipulated. There is a box where students can explain how to use the known fact to find the answer.
For example, the 7 x 6 page provides challenges such as:
60 x 700 … and so on
How can it be used? To get the most out of this resource, students need to know their times table facts. It is hard to be flexible with 7 x 6 if you are having to think hard and expend valuable working memory capacity trying to figure out what 7 x 6 is in the first place. There are lots of ways to achieve this. Drills are not popular with many teachers, but I think they can be made fun and are highly effective; numeracy ninjas and times table rockstars are things I have used in the past that students seem to respond well to.
Once those foundations are in place, challenging students to complete a page of this resource each lesson would be incredibly worthwhile. Students are likely to find it tricky at first, but the more they do, the more connections they spot, the more they understand, the better they will get, and the more flexible mathematicians they will become.

I have been putting together this times tables word problem resource recently. I grabbed word problems from all over the internet, for each times table (2-12). This is in an attempt to grow my student’s confidence when they cross numbers with words in assessments and to consolidate their tables. • My class are often more than able for the questions they are posed with but as soon as they see words they freak out. This is super common! • These word problems are all multiplication, so although they don’t need to consider the operation to choose they do have to filter through the words to gain an understanding of what figures to manage and manipulate. I colour coordinated each set for so I know exactly what’s what.
