VIT was established in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. VIT Chennai was established in 2010 by Dr G. Viswanathan, a former parliamentarian and a profound minister in Tamil Nadu Government. About VITREE

Vellore Institute of Technology Research Entrance Examination (VITREE) is conducted for admission to various Ph.D./Direct Ph.D. programmes in VIT group of Institutions. VITREE - July 2024 session will be conducted on 05 th May 2024 (Based on election date, there is a possibility that the exam date might be subject to change only on the coinciding locations) in 59 cities across India. The duration of the examination will be 2 hours. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions and one mark for right and '0' mark for the wrong answer. The question paper for Ph.D. will have 100 MCQs (Technical - 70 questions; English communication skills - 15; Statistics and probability - 15 questions) and the question paper for Direct Ph.D. will have 100 MCQs (Technical - 80 questions; English communication skills - 20 questions). School of Advanced Sciences (SAS), which was established in the year 1984, comprises Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry departments. The vision of the School is to provide quality teaching and high level research to make an impact at global level. The School consists of experienced, enthusiastic energetic faculty (total 226) in Mathematics (108), Physics (46) and Chemistry (72), who are experts in their research fields, evident from their publications and research funding, many are pioneers in their fields after long years of research experience both in India and abroad in repute organizations. The Departments are recognized by DST-FIST to establish sophisticated instrumental facilities.

The School offers Masters Programs in Data Science, Computational Statistics and Data Analytics, Physics and Chemistry -Analytical or Inorganic or Organic or General Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Chemistry as specialization. It includes a full time six months research based capstone project in 4th semester. The curriculum keeps abreast of the latest advancements in the respective domains and endeavours to develop scientists of high quality as the syllabi are framed / revised by Board of Studies with members drawn from repute institutions like IISc, IITs and industries. In addition to classroom and laboratory teaching, the students are engaged in experimental learning through research participation. The Curriculum for Applied Learning (CAL) adopted presently facilitates students learning by doing. The Semester Abroad Program (SAP) offers students an international exposure so as to prepare effectively for professional employment or research degree in basic and applied sciences.

The School offers Ph.D. programs in frontier research areas in all 3 disciplines. The candidates selected through a National level test and interview undertakes course work and the School has on roll 467 Ph.D. Scholars (both full time and part time). Faculty members have been awarded National and International projects to the tune of 33.26 crores (4.58 million US Dollars. They publish their findings in internationally recognized SCOPUS indexed journals and also have been granted patents. The School publishes over 500 SCOPUS indexed publications in a year. The School is equipped with necessary instruments for research and also offers services to other institutions as well. The departments have several teaching and research labs. The School periodically conducts extension programmes such as conference, workshops, seminars and symposia on topics of relevance.

Subject of Chemistry is ranked at 550 in QS World Ranking and 15th place at National level.

Application Date:

VIT charges INR 1200 as the application fee for VITREE 2024. 

Students can pursue M. Phil, M.S (By Research) & Ph. D. degrees in VIT University schools by fulfilling the desired norms & regulations. Academic performance & marks secured in the written test i.e, VITREE followed by an Interview.  

With respect to the number of applications received, students are shortlisted & called for the written test followed by an interview.

The university offers the students Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. programs.

Students can opt for the below-mentioned categories in Ph. D. program:

• Internal Full Time : For those students who want to work on sponsored projects carried out in the institute.
• Internal Part Time : It would be applicable to staff members of the institute.
• External Full Time : Applicants who are working in academic institutions or sponsored by Research & Development (R & D) departments, National laboratories & industries having R & D facilities.

Vellore Institute of Technology Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. in Engineering/Management/Science/Humanities are given below:

Ph.D. in Engineering

• 10+2+4+2 (patternof studies)or any equivalent in Engineering degree.
• 10+2+5 year Integrated M.Tech. programme, Integrated M.S Programme in Engineering.
• 10+2+4+1 for Ph.D. in Engineering (Foreign Degree holders also eligible to apply)

Ph.D in Non-Engineering 

• 10+2+3+2 (patternof studies) or any equivalent in Non-Engineering degree.
• 10+2+5 year Integrated. M.Sc.(Biotech)in Non-Engineering degree.

Direct Ph.D. in Engineering Stream

• 10+2+4or 5 (patternof studies) or any equivalent degree in Engineering degree.

Ph.D. in Sciences/Humanities/Languages

• Master’s degree with a minimum of 60% in Sciences / Master’s degree with a minimum of 55% in Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages 

Ph.D. in Management:

• The candidate should possess a Master of Business Administration or M.E./M.Tech. with a first-class or a minimum of 60% marks. If the University/Institute does not award any class, the CGPA of the candidate must be 6.5 on a 10-point scale to pursue the degree.

Ph.D. in Law:

• The candidate should possess a Master of Laws (LLM) from any recognized University/Institute, with a first-class or a minimum of 55% marks.

Ph.D. in Fashion Technology:

• The candidate should possess M.Tech./M.E./M. Fashion Tech/M.S.[By Research]/M.Tech[By Research] in the field of Textile/Textile Engineering/Fibre Science/Textile Chemical Processing/Fashion/Apparel/Garment with a first-class or a minimum of 60% marks.

Vellore Institute of Technology Ph.D. Admission Procedure

Applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements to appear for the VIT Research Entrance Exam conducted by the University. Qualified candidates will receive a call from authorities regarding the Interview.

Selection will be based on the overall merit index of the candidate which will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at the Master’s level and the performance in the written test and the interview.

In the case of Integrated Ph.D.

Selection will be done on the basis of the overall merit index of the candidate which will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at the Bachelor’s level and the performance in the written test (VITMEE) and the interview.

Note: Students who qualify in GATE  201 9 / CSIR-UGC NET will be exempted from the written test.

The final seat will be confirmed only after payment of a prescribed fee of INR 600 & verification of certificates. Selected students have to register for Ph. D. program within one month from the date of admission.

How to apply for M.Phil & Ph.D. Courses?

Ph.D. aspirants will be notified about the release of the applications through an open advertisement in the leading newspapers.

• Applications will be filled out online at http://www.vit.ac.in
• The application fee is INR 1200 which can be paid by Debit Card/Credit Card/Net banking.
• The latest passport-size photograph must be uploaded while filling out the application form.

For Integrated Ph.D. the applicants must undergo VITREE 

Documents required to be enclosed along with the application form:

• SSC & HSC certificates & Marks sheet
• Degree certificates
• Migration certificate from the school last attended
• Employment  certificate from present employer ( This document is very important for all categories of students under the External Part-Time category)
• Complete application form super scribed with ‘Application to Ph. D./ M. S by research/ M. Phil.’ must be sent to: Admission Officer, VIT University, Vellore-632 014 Tamil Nadu, India
• If any student is looking for admission in more than one school then he/she should apply through a separate application form.  
• In case a student is already employed; his/her application must be confirmed by their employer.

Greatest college.

The most of teacher will be well-trained faculty members who teach, on the campus and who are very helpful in nature. Different kinds of workshops are conducted to keep the students updated about the recent technologies and trends. Also, industrial visits were conducted. This college is very good for the MCA students. There will also be the exchange best in all of cultures.

VIT college opportunity only if you wish to grab it.

teachers are mostly nice except for a few black-listed teachers, but even then, the average is usually low in such classes, and you get a good grade since VIT is all about relatively grading. The course is relevant, and they revise it every year so as to remove what is not needed. The semester exams were 7/10 in toughness, but if you attend classes and actually study, it is quite easy to score well.

The curriculum is great, facilities are good in general.

Academics is fine. The syllabus is up to date. There are a few subjects that need a slight update, apart from it all the other things are up to the mark. The quality of the teaching is also good. Overall the curriculum is maintained well.

I am so sorry for saying this but unfortunately you can not get vit Chennai with 1 lakh 30 thousand rank in VITEEE. Unfortunately you can not get any college at this rank. I suggest you to explore other options like Manipal or SRM.
