Pragati Life Insurance signs MoU with Instasure to develop new insurance products

Pragati Life Insurance Limited has signed the first agreement under the Insurance Regulatory Sandbox in the country's life insurance industry. 

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was officially signed with Instasure Limited, a leading insurance company, on 26 October 2023, reads a press release.

Managing Director and CEO of Pragati Life Insurance Limited Md Jalalul Azim and Managing Director of Instasure Limited Engr Rafel Kabir, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

Additional Managing Director Chandra Shekhar Das, FCA and Head of ADC Sajadul Haque of Pragati Life Insurance, and senior officials of both organisations were also present at the ceremony.

Under this MoU, Pragati Life Insurance and Instasure Limited will work together to develop and market new insurance products using innovative approaches through technologies. This will help to make insurance more accessible and affordable for everyone.

Managing Director and CEO of Pragati Life Insurance Md Jalalul Azim said, "We are excited to be the first life insurance company in Bangladesh to partner with an insurtech company under the InsurTech Regulatory Sandbox.

"This partnership will allow us to leverage Instasure's expertise in technology to develop new and innovative insurance products for customers. We believe that this will help us to achieve our mission of making insurance more accessible and affordable for everyone in Bangladesh," he added.

It is a broadly described annual report of Pragati Life Insurance Limited in the year of 2015. Pragati Life Insurance Limited earned Taka. 2,328.27 million as at December 31 st , 2015 as against Taka. 1,966.15 million as at December 31 st , 2014 registering an increase of 18.42%. Payment to the policyholder in the year 2015 was Tk. 1,170 million as against Tk. 943 million in the year 2014 is an increase of 24%. The Life Funds during 2015 was Tk. 4,260 million compared to Tk. 3,887 million in 2014 showing a growth of 9.60%. The gross premium income during 2015 stood at Tk. 1,989.78 million against Tk. 1,655.52 million in 2014 registering a growth of 20.19%. The total investment income made by Pragati Life Insurance Limited rose to Tk. 344.07 million in 2015 from Tk. 336.07 million in 2014 registering an increase of 2.38%. Total assets of the Company stood at Tk. 4,126.79 million as of December 31 st , 2015 against Tk. 3,794.22 million as of December 31 st , 2014 registering an increase of 8.76%.

Accordingly, the Board of Directors of the Company did not recommend any dividend to shareholders and bonus to policyholders for the year 2015. These financial statements are presented in Bangladesh Taka (Taka/Tk/BDT) which is the company’s functional currency. All financial information presented in Taka has been rounded off to the nearest Taka.

Assignment Moscow: Reporting on Russia From Lenin to Putin

Rodgers, a British journalist who has worked in Russia at various times since the 1990s, writes about the plight of the English-speaking correspondents who have covered Russia, going all the way back to the Russian Revolution in 1917. That their task was not easy is hardly surprising, yet Rodgers repeatedly emphasizes the difficulties they faced (the word “difficult” is used to describe their job at least two dozen times): strict censorship (foreign journalists were forced to clear their dispatches with Soviet authorities until 1961), travel restrictions, limited access to senior officials and ordinary people alike, and the government’s suspicion that Anglo-American correspondents were spies in disguise. Even Rodgers’s discussion of the American journalist Hedrick Smith—who, despite the restrictions, famously managed to produce exceptionally rich and insightful coverage of the Soviet Union and its people in the 1970s—is reduced to Smith’s reflections on how difficult his work was. Rodgers’s narrative rests on an enormous number of articles in Anglo-American media, books by and about journalists, and his own interviews with many Moscow correspondents. He quotes some of them as saying that journalists knew and understood Russia better than diplomats or policymakers did. This may or may not be true. Unfortunately, Rodgers doesn’t give the diplomats and policymakers a chance to respond.

Individual Life Insurance: Life insurance is a contract between an insured (insurance policy holder) and an insurer or assurer, where the insurer promises to pay a designated beneficiary a sum of money (the "benefits") in exchange for a premium, upon the death of the insured person. Depending on the contract, other events such as terminal illness or critical illness can also trigger payment. The policy holder typically pays a premium, either regularly or as one lump sum. Other expenses (such as funeral expenses) can also be included in the benefits. Life policies are legal contracts and the terms of the contract describe the limitations of the insured events. Specific exclusions are often written into the contract to limit the liability of the insurer; common examples are claims relating to suicide, fraud, war, riot, and civil commotion. In our country the Upper class people, Middle class People and also the lower class people is our customer.

My work looks at how stories of international affairs, especially armed conflict, are told to the world.

I am an author and journalist. During two decades of covering international news, I reported on the end of the Soviet Union; the wars in Chechnya; the coming to power of Vladimir Putin; 9/11; the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; the 2003 war in Iraq; Russia’s war with Georgia in 2008. I completed correspondent postings for the BBC in Moscow, Brussels, and Gaza. I now teach in the Journalism Department at City, University of London.
