Data about the recent references iv | P a g e INTRODUCTION First of all, I would like to share my happiness in working this article review to my beloved lecture of Administration Archives (IMR455), Sir Ahmad Azman Bin Mohamad Ramli, which one of the lecture in Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Rembau Branch. This review article assignment was given by him to fulfill the individual assignment which consist of 10% marks. It was given during first week of the class. The date for this assignment to be handed will be announced in other times. Figure 1: Mr. Ahmad Azman Bin Mohamad Ramli. The Administration of Archives (IMR455) subject provide assessments for student in two form which are individual and group assignment. In this individual subject, student have been requested in searching for an article about archive’s issues. Additionally, the article that can be used must be published between 2010 until 2020. The article also must be reached only through online database that have been subscribed by UiTM. The lecture has provide some time for the student to complete this assignment. 1|Page Figure 2: The Website of Online Database UiTM. The objective of the assignment is to enhance student skill in writing and creating an article review in the proper way. The other objective is to provide extra knowledge about archive instead of learning it from lecturing class. The article that I have chosen is from Emerald Insight database. The reason why I choose Emerald Insight because it is so convenient and user friendly. Mostly, all the articles that available in this database are fully access so it is easier for the student or any academician in retrieving sources they need. In addition, Emerald Insight knowingly with a good profile which is they manages portfolio about over 300 journals, more than 2,500 books and over 1,500 teaching cases. 2|Page Figure 3: The Homepage of Emerald Insight Database. The title of the article that I have choose is “Smart Client approaches to digital archiving of e-journals”. After found this article, I read it and try to figure out the article about through the abstract. The purpose of the article is based on a result for research project that is undertaken by Prosentient System. The focus of the project was a proof-of-concept implementation of a Smart Client application for digital archiving of e-journal subscriptions held by special libraries. Figure 4: The Article. 3|Page 1.0 Discussion In this article review, there are a lot of discussion that will be deliberated and highlight according to the article that I have chosen. The deliberation of the discussion will give information to the reader to understand and read it easily without going through the whole document. The following of the discussion will be write according to the given guideline that have provided by the lecture. 1.1 Full bibliographic citation Figure 5: The full bibliographic citation The bibliographic citation is one of the most important tool for students to do article review. This is because when student use bibliographic citation, the sources that they used are reliable and relevance in completing the assignment been given. The bibliographic citation must consist the author, title of the journal article, name of journal, volume, issue, date of publication and pages. All these information is the vital for the good article. There are two authors of this article which is Edmund Balnaves and Mark Chehade. The title of this article is “Smart Client approaches to digital archiving of e-journals”. Both of the authors are from Prosentient Systems, Sydney, Australia. It is a digital archiving of e-journals, Volume 27 with Issues number 5. This article was published on 2nd October 2009. It can be found in page 837 until 845. 4|Page From my opinion, this article has fulfilled the bibliographic citation characteristic that I need. However, the range year of this article were published is a little slightly from the requirement which is from 2010 until 2020. But, the information in this article is still relevant. 1.2 BIBLIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUTHOR In this section, I will be described about the both authors. Figure 6: Edmund Balnaves As the CEO and Founder of Prosentient Systems, Dr. Edmund Balnaves brings to the business over two decades of industry experience in information systems, with a focus on the development of effective solutions for information intensive environments. Having worked with Unix, Linux and Windows architectures at a system administrative level, Edmund's skill-set covers a broad range of architectures and development environments. Dr. Balnaves is actively engaged in research and has a strong publication record in the area of web and library services. Dr. Balnaves is a member of ALIA (Australian Library Information Association) (and director of ALIA 2013-4) and of the IEEE. He is a standing committee member of the Information Technology Section of IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) since 2005, and chair 2013-2015 (\"Edmund Balnaves | Prosentient Systems\", 2020). 5|Page Figure 7: Mark Chehade Based on my searching through internet, I have found out that Mark Chehade worked at Google as AUNZ Partner Technical Lead from October 2018 until present, worked as Ad Solutions Consultant from December 2015 until October 2018. He also had experience in working as Senior Integrations Architect in MediaMath from November 2014 until December 2015, worked at Acxiom for 3 years 7 months as Solutions Architect (August 2012 until November 2014) and Business Analyst (May 2011 until August 2012). Mark Chehade also worked as Software Engineer from January 2006 until May 2011. In addition, Mark Chehade also received his education from the University of Sydney in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Software Engineering, Honours in 2003 until 2007. The article of “Smart Client approaches to electronic Journal Archiving” was one of his accomplishments. In my opinion, Mark Chehade need to include his picture on his profile so that the reader who want to know who he is can identify him through the picture. Then, it is difficult for me to recognize who is Mark Chehade because all the searching results show similarly name alike him and can cause the misinformation. However, I use his LinkedIn account to represent him. 6|Page 1.3 INTENDED AUDIENCE In any form of article writing, the author is certainly have their own intended audience to convey them through the article. From my understanding, authors of this article have target the community among researchers, librarians and students. This is because the article originally based on result of the research project and also they used approaching by doing survey for the special libraries in Australia. Also the term of “Smart Client” which is more related to the use of electronic sources which is closely to the students nowadays. 1.3.1 Researchers Figure 8: The Researchers. The researcher need more than ten references in working on their research, as they should avoid to do same thing with another researcher too. This article can help them as it also includes methodology, findings and also has originality and value. This article also can be one of the extra knowledge for them in conducting a research. There also analysis that is available in this article for the researcher to be referred. 7|Page 1.3.2 Librarians Figure 9: The Librarian. This article also can help the librarian with managing the digital resources especially in Special libraries which have been highlight in this article. There also mentioning about the approaches that is used for the special libraries in Australia that can be used by the librarian in improving their library. 8|Page 1.3.3 Students Figure 10: The students. The students also a good intended audience mostly from Information Management. This is because they need to develop more knowledge about many information. For example, they can use this article when they need to complete their assignment task. When they have many reference sources, they can produce a quality assignment. Instead of that, it can develop interest to the student in archiving field. 9|Page 1.4 GENERAL PROBLEM AREA General or broad problem area can be referred to the entire situation where one sees a possible need for research and problem solving (\"Chapter 3 The Research Process: The broad problem area and defining …”, 2020). General problem area also can be defined as a statement about an area of concern, a condition to be improved, a difficulty to be eliminated, or a troubling question that exists in scholarly literature, in theory, or in practice that points to the need for meaningful understanding and deliberate investigation. In some social science disciplines the research problem is typically posed in the form of a question. A research problem does not state how to do something, offer a vague or broad proposition, or present a value question (\"Research Guides: Organizing Academic Research Papers: The Research Problem/Question\", 2020). The purpose of the general problem area is to understand the reader about the flow and aboutness of the article. From my observation, the author intend to discuss in the article about the result of the research that have been worked on. It shows all the method or approaching that they been used in doing the research. It can be found through the purpose section of this article, which is to present the results of a research project undertaken by Prosentient System and the focus of the project was a proof-of-concept implementation of a Smart Client application for digital archiving of e-journal subscriptions held by special libraries. The reason why the result of the research is important because it helps a lot for the developing of special libraries in Australia. The element of “Smart Client” is a must for the user during this new era as they will no more depends on traditional way instead of the latest one. This research also much helping for archiving sources in the digital way. We can refer to the general problem area of this article through Figure 11. Figure 11: The general problem area. 10 | P a g e 1.5 PAST RESEARCH In completing the research successfully, the author use some past research as the guidance. The following figure will show all the past research that been used by the author. I have recognized all the research paper that help the author in doing the research. In addition, all the article can be retrieved through online database or online journals. From my observation, the author also have stated the objective or purpose in their research. Figure 24: The purpose of the article. The main purpose of the research is to present the reader the results of the project which is a proof-concept implementation of a Smart Client application for digital archiving of e-journal subscriptions held by special libraries. This research can be useful for the special libraries in guiding them in archiving all the resources. Figure 25: The objective of the article. The main objective of the article is the implementation of software for e-journal archiving application that is cross-platform, light-weight (e.g. can easily be installed on most desktop systems) and uses a balance of local and networked resources. It can be such an approach that has application both to special libraries and to libraries in developing countries where internet connection may be unreliable in the certain places. In my opinion, the article has clearly stated the purpose and objective of the research. 15 | P a g e 1.7 ANY TERMS DEFINED In each article, they have some terms that been used by the author that related to the organizations and describing for any terminology about the topic. There also including terms with its definition and terms without its definition in this article. The terms is important in order to understand the reader about the article easily. The following table will show the terms. 1.7.1 Terms with definition The following table show the terms with the definition in this article. The author clearly stated these terms with its definition. Term Definition ALIA 2007 Australian Library and Information Association 2007 YEA Yale Electronic Archive is a joint project with the publisher Elsevier, directed to establishing a substantial archive for escrow and archival management of their digital journal collection. LOCKSS Lots Of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe and open source application that allows libraries to build their own digital collections and provides librarians with a way to collect, store, preserve and provide access to their own, local copy of authorized content they purchase. English is one of the main language that been used in communication around the world. 1.8.1 The effect of the author’s language The use of English language in this article easy for the each type of readers. In addition, there are some terms that are rarely found or difficult to understand but can still be useful to the readers. I also can understand this article even though there are some of the terms are little bit difficult to figure out such as technical terms. 1.8.2 The vocabulary and sentence structure In my opinion, the use of vocabulary and sentence structure used by the author is appropriate. This is because readers can still understand the content that the author wants to convey in this article. The authors ensure the use of the English sentence directly to the readers understanding and not confuse. 1.8.3 The choice of words and terms As this is a research paper, I found that the author maintain neutrality in his/her choice of words and terms. Even though there some terms that is too technical to understand, the author also include some definition to it. Most of the term and words that the author used is related to the Information Technology and Library Management field. The author also use some abbreviation in this article. Figure 26: Some of the abbreviation that been used by the author 18 | P a g e 1.9 REFERENCES GIVEN To produce a quality and good articles, the author has used a variety of reference sources for his/her articles. This is to ensure the information that been conveyed must be valid and understanding along with the research that been worked on. 1.9.1 References section Based on my observation, there is a section where all the references that is used by the author which is located in page 9 of the article. The author might use references that are related to his/her research that focus on the project of a proof-concept implementation of a Smart Client application for digital archiving of e-journal subscriptions held by special libraries. In addition, the author also use in-text citation to avoid any plagiarism in his/her article. Figure 27: Example of references 19 | P a g e Figure 28: Example of in-text citation 1.9.2 The recent of the references The recent of the references that been used by the author is not too recent. This is because all references year is between 1995 until 2007. Maybe it is not relevance now but it is still relevance during the article was written long ago. This article also published in year of 2009 and probably the references quite relevance to it. The references is important to reinforce any information that is conveyed in the article. Year Number of References 2007 2 2006 1 2005 3 2002 1 2001 1 1998 1 1997 1 1995 1 Table 4: Data about the recent references 20 | P a g e 1.10 EXPECTED RESULTS In this section, I need to give a good indication of what I expect to get out of the research. From my observation I have found that the author state clearly what is expected to happen in this research. In this research, there are several of approach way that have application in both to special libraries and to libraries. The author also discuss the factors or variables that may effect after the research. The methods for measuring results is clearly explained and appropriate. There also expected result occur. This can be referred to this following: 1.10.1 Transition to e-journal collections The author points out that there are few factors that contribute in digital-only delivery of library resources which are consists of the increasing in e-publishing activity and static library budgets. There also have risk for this approaching way. In short term risk, the researcher found that the problem typically associated with application stability, management, and network access, operational continuity of the client and server technology infrastructure. In the long risk term, it is about the how systematic towards information technology. 1.10.2 E-journal archiving in Australia special libraries The researcher which is Prosentient System had undertook a survey of the 263 member libraries of the GratisNet Inter-library loan network on their current practice in electronic subscriptions and e-journal archiving in 2007. For the result, there are 164 responses were received and only seven of these library reported any current work in e-journal archiving. In special library, they still retain in a large percentage of print subscriptions, with only 28 respondents (17 per cent) having more than half of their collection in electronic-only form. For libraries, they had at least 30 per cent of their collection for both electronic and print form, and 38 per cent of libraries have at least 10 per cent of their subscription in electronic form only. For the traditional print subscriptions, the access to e-journals is not guaranteed and in the other case which is the extended of service outrage, libraries who have cancelled their print subscriptions for the alternative of an electronic subscription face the 21 | P a g e dilemma of losing access to the historical and current collection. The risk is more theoretical which is 57 per cent of libraries reported a loss of access to an e-journal subscription such as through supplier changes. In the correlation way, only 30 per cent electronic subscriptions only for those libraries. The 14 libraries have indicated that they will face risk that is associated with this subscription method. 1.10.3 Current approaches In this approaching way, the author points out the publisher and the subscription agent take responsibility in solving the access problem. There are few of organization involved in resolving this issue which are OCLC, PORTICO (JSTOR), YEA (Yale Electronic Archive) and LOCKSS (Lots Of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe).  The OCLC Electronic Collections Online program takes the approach of creating a central journal archive, and has gone to some lengths to ensure that licence agreements have been made with the various publishers.  PORTICA also act as a central online scholarly journal archive and electronic document resource alike the OCLC Electronic Collections Online Program.  The Yale Electronic Archive (YEA) project demonstrates that collaboration between publishers and subscribers for the establishment of a digital archive is economically feasible and can enhance the reputation of the supplier by providing continuity of service assurance to the client.  The Lots Of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe (LOCKSS) program is run from a self-booting floppy or CD containing a minimal version of the Linux operating system, without installing the operating system on the hard drive. It assures archival continuity both through local archiving and peer-to-peer distributed archival management. 1.10.4 Design principles for e-journal archiving In this point, the author has mentioned the project is designed to capitalize on Smart Client design approaches to achieve a blend of local and network operation in environments where technical skills are not necessarily common. There also have stated the consideration framed the application architecture and key functional elements of the local element of the application. 22 | P a g e 1.11 ILLUSTRATIONS The author also used some illustrations in his/her article. The illustration is important to ensure that the reader understands some process or analysis that requires visualization. Instead of providing information to the reader, the illustration is also useful in making an article is interesting to read. 1.11.1 Figure By using figure, it is convenient for the author to show to the reader the flow of his/her research. The figure also can be an evidence about some information. As it is a research paper, reader cannot imagine what this article about and is the article can be trusted or not? The figure also help in understanding the reader what the message that been given in the article. Figure 29: The Figure 1 of the article Figure 30: The Figure 2 of the article 23 | P a g e Figure 31: The Figure 3 of the article 1.11.2 Table The used of table in article is ensure all the data is organized concisely, clearly and easy to understand. In addition, table usually functioning as to show result for research work. It can be useful in giving the information that reader need. Figure 32: The Table 1 of the article 24 | P a g e 1.12 MAJOR FINDINGS The author’s major findings is the research outcomes indicate that a cross-platform “Smart Client” approach to e-journal archiving is achievable and the presentation will review architectural design techniques that support cross-platform deployment and simple installation using open source smart client tools. Figure 33: The major findings. For the conclusion, the author stated that this paper describes a proof-of-concept for the implementation of a Smart Client e-journal archiving system that can be deployed in special libraries to facilitate local archiving and preservation of e-journal subscriptions. This research paper also offers the example of a Smart Client approach to local archiving. Based on my observation, the author’s major findings and conclusion have been supported by his/her analyses, arguments, findings and evidence. The author also points out that the results to date have been positive Figure 34: The result analysis According to the results, the web service has successfully operated through proxy firewalls and the quite low bandwidth settings. Local archiving is functioning successfully. To emphasis the archival nature they have not integrated a search interface, only a local Table of Contents-based view of archival material. 25 | P a g e 1.13 REFERRED TO BY ANYONE ELSE According to the result search that I found in the Web of Science database for this article, it shows that this article is not refer to by anyone else. In my opinion, there is a factor that is contributed why people not cite this article. The factor is because of the year which the article was published date. This article is below from 10 years ago, which it was published in the year of 2009. It is not relevance to use it as it is not the latest one just like any latest article. In making any article or any information seeking, the reference source should be updated for a quality and relevance facts to ensure user is trusting their article. Figure 35: The year of the article published However, the article is good for reading and gaining extra knowledge. The informations that content in this article is still accepted even it is far from the right updated years track. But, still the article mentioning about the archiving. 26 | P a g e 1.14 ACCOMPLISH OBJECTIVE According to the objectives in Figure 25, the author had successfully accomplish his/her objective, which is the implementation of software for e-journal archiving application that is cross-platform, light-weight (e.g. can easily be installed on most desktop systems) and uses a balance of local and networked resources. The authors have do what she/he set out to do according to several of approaching used. For instance, the both libraries which is special libraries and libraries that have low resources and poor of internet connection can apply the approaching that been used in this research. This show that the implementation of a Smart Client e-journal archiving system that can be deployed in special libraries to facilitate local archiving and preservation of e-journal subscriptions is succeed for the both special libraries and libraries. 1.15 SUGGESTIONS Based on my observation throughout this article, there is no any suggestion section that have been mentioned by the author in the whole of this article. However, I have some suggestion for the author in this research paper article. First, I think that this research should be emphasized this research instead of Australia. This is because it is a good research to be developed as it gives positives impact on special library and library in Australia, thus researcher can continue this research in other country too. Second, this research also apply this method not only among librarianship but also in archive institutions. As early mention that this research paper article is for special library and library in Australia through Smart Client approaching, but make it possible that can be applied in archive situations too. It is time for archive situation to have new era in archiving activities. However, in my opinion, the author should state clearly suggestions or further study about this research. This is because it difficult for the reader to know the next flow where this research will continue. Moreover, suggestion areas is important for any form of research paper article to ensure that reader can understand the article. Suggestions is a good thing in developing a certain organization or institution. From suggestion, people still have path to move forward in what they do. 27 | P a g e CONCLUSION As a conclusion, I am really recommended this article for people which consists among students, researchers and librarians as it contain some information that related to them.
