Globe Business unveils new postpaid plans for enterprises, corporate subscribers

As the world slowly moves forward to post-pandemic life, enterprises are on the cusp of seeing the next evolution in the workplace with more and more employees preferring a hybrid work setup. This then calls for business leaders to rethink how their operations will adjust moving forward.

To respond to this critical need, Globe Business is launching GPlan Enterprise–its newest portfolio of postpaid plans that enhance communication and collaboration between business leaders and the workforce, wherever they are.

globe landline business plan

GPlan Enterprise allows subscribers to get the best value for their mobile plan more than the usual all-net calls, unlimited text and landline offers, and bigger data allocations that go with their subscription.

Through this new set of postpaid plans, they can optimize Globe’s 5G network and expect excellent customer service with dedicated and trained Account Managers who provide expertise and assistance on their concerns.

They can also tap into Globe Business’ synergies with value-added, information, and communications technology partners like Yondu, Zoom, and GCash, which provide them with essentials that will ramp up business productivity in a hybrid, remote, or even in-office work setup.

“Globe Business is committed to staying relevant to the needs of the times to ensure that enterprises are equipped with the right tools to push their businesses forward and keep up with the evolving workplace. With GPlan Enterprise, they are able to provide their employees the needed support to keep them productive and connected no matter where they are,” said Issa Cabreira-Guevarra, Globe Chief Commercial Officer.

New postpaid plans will be offered to all new and re-contracting customers. GPlan Enterprise will have built-in constructs, unlike its predecessor.

Kamala Harris Stops in New Hampshire to Unveil ‘Ambitious’ Small Business Plan

Her proposal would open entrepreneurship to those currently excluded by the high cost of starting a new business.

Sep. 05, 2024

globe landline business plan

By Matthew Medsger Boston Herald (TNS)

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. — Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise campaign stop in New Hampshire to announce a new policy proposal Wednesday, when she laid out an “ambitious” plan to get millions of small businesses started.

Harris, who noted there are only 62 days until the Nov. 5 general election, was  in North Hampton  at Throwback Brewery when she made the announcement. According to the vice president, her plan would open entrepreneurship to those currently excluded by the high cost of starting a new business.

“Now, I’m setting what I think some are going to call a very ambitious goal. But, you know what? I think we should admire ambition in each other,” she said. “So I want to see 25 million new small businesses applications by the end of my first term.”

Harris would accomplish this, she said, by lowering the cost of building a new enterprise. Right now, the vice president said, it costs about $40,000 to get the average small business off the ground, but that cost is only offset by a $5,000 tax deduction.

“That is a great financial barrier for a lot of folks, and it can hold entrepreneurs back,” she said. “Not everyone has access to that kind of wealth.”

Harris’ plan, she said, would increase that tax deduction tenfold.

“We will expand the tax deduction for start ups to $50,000,” she said. “It’s essentially a tax cut for starting a small business.”

Under a Harris-Walz administration, the government would also provide “low and no interest loans” to small businesses “that want to expand” and “cut the red tape that can make starting and growing a small business more difficult than it needs to be.”

“We will make it cheaper and easier for small businesses to file their taxes, similar to how individuals can take a standard deduction,” she said. “Let’s just take away some of the bureaucracy.”

According to Harris, the change would open opportunities to a new pool of American talent currently kept on the sidelines by their lack of wealth.

“It’s not that they don’t have the skills, it’s not that they don’t have the work ethic, it’s access to these resources,” she said.

Harris’ plan would require the support of  Congress , which is responsible for adjusting the tax code.

According to former President Donald Trump’s campaign, New Hampshire voters should not be fooled by Harris’ turn toward the small business community.

“If Kamala wanted to help small businesses, why hasn’t she done it during her four years as vice president? Why has Kamala proudly supported Bidenomics, which has caused historic inflation and record-high energy costs for small businesses, minimizing their profit margins and threatening their livelihood?” Trump’s team said in a release.

Harris visits New Hampshire to tout her small business tax plan

“You’re not only leaders in business. You’re civic leaders,” Harris said. She added, “You are part of the glue and the fabric that holds communities together.”

Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign stop at the Throwback Brewery, in North Hampton, N.H., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024.

By WILL WEISSERT, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris used a New Hampshire campaign stop on Wednesday to propose an expansion of tax incentives for small businesses, a pro-entrepreneur plan that may soften her previous calls for wealthy Americans and large corporations to pay higher taxes.

Describing small businesses as “an essential foundation to our entire economy,” Harris said she wants to expand from $5,000 to $50,000 tax incentives for startup expenses, with the goal of eventually spurring 25 million new small business applications over four years.

The speech is part of Harris’ effort to strengthen her economic credentials with only two months until the end of the election.

Harris spoke at the Throwback Brewery in North Hampton, outside Portsmouth, and meet with co-founders Annette Lee and Nicole Carrier. Their brewery got support to open its current location through a small business credit and installed solar panels using federal programs championed by the Biden administration, according to the Harris campaign.

The campaign of Donald Trump, the former president and current Republican nominee, dismissed Harris’ small business plan, noting that the vice president has promised to eliminate a package of tax cuts approved during his administration that are set to expire next year. Trump’s campaign said those cuts “allowed business owners to deduct up to 20% of qualified business income,” reduced taxes on new equipment purchases and took steps to bolster small businesses as compared to larger ones.

Before talking about small businesses, Harris addressed Wednesday’s school shooting in Georgia.

“It’s just outrageous that every day, in our country, in the United States of American, that parents have to send their parents to school worried about whether or not their child will come home alive.”

She added, “We’ve got to stop it. It doesn’t have to be this way.”

Harris’ New Hampshire trip is a rare deviation for a candidate who is spending most of her time in Midwest and Sun Belt states with pivotal roles in November’s election.

Since President Joe Biden dropped his reelection bid and endorsed Harris, the vice president has focused on Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, which have been the centerpiece of successful Democratic campaigns. She also has frequently visited Arizona, Nevada and Georgia, all of which Biden narrowly won in 2020, and North Carolina, which she hopes to flip from Trump.

Wednesday’s stop comes after Harris marked Labor Day with Monday rallies in Detroit and Pittsburgh and before she heads back to Pittsburgh on Thursday — marking her 10th visit to Pennsylvania in 2024.

Trump has called for lowering the corporate tax rate to 15% — a break with Biden who in his budget proposal in March suggested setting the corporate tax rate at 28%. Harris has released relatively few major policy proposals in the roughly six weeks since taking over the top of the Democratic ticket, but has not suggested she’s planning to deviate greatly from his administration on tax policy.

The small business plan Harris is presenting has lots that the business community would like. But that contrasts another proposal Harris unveiled last month, where she promised to help fight inflation by working to combat “price gouging” from food producers that she suggests have driven grocery store prices up unnecessarily.

Harris has built her campaign around calls to grow and strengthen the nation’s middle class — and suggested that rich Americans and large corporations should “pay their fair share” in higher taxes.

Both nominees are using the week before their debate to sharpen their economic messages about who could do more for the middle class. Trump will address the Economic Club of New York on Thursday.

Biden, who built his campaign around promoting the middle class, won New Hampshire by 7 percentage points in 2020, but Trump came much closer to winning it against Hillary Clinton in 2016. The Harris campaign says it has 17 field offices operating in coordination with the state Democratic party across New Hampshire, compared to one for Trump’s campaign.

Some of the state’s Democrats were angry that Biden directed the Democratic National Committee to make South Carolina the first state to vote in the party’s presidential primary this year — displacing Iowa’s caucus and a first-in-the-nation primary New Hampshire held for more than a century.

Despite that, New Hampshire pressed ahead with an unsanctioned primary. Though Biden didn’t campaign in it, or appear on the ballot, he still easily won via a write-in drive.

Trump has seized on the primary calendar change, posting on his social media account that Harris “sees there are problems for her campaign in New Hampshire because of the fact that they disrespected it in their primary and never showed up.”

“Additionally, the cost of living in New Hampshire is through the roof, their energy bills are some of highest in the country, and their housing market is the most unaffordable in history,” the former president wrote. “I protected New Hampshire’s First-In-The-Nation Primary and ALWAYS will.”

Be civil. Be kind.

North Hampton, NH - September 4: U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala ... [+] Harris speaks during a campaign event at Throwback Brewery. (Photo by Danielle Parhizkaran/The Boston Globe via Getty Images)

On Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her “Entrepreneurs & Innovators Policy Plan” that will support small businesses, entrepreneurs, innovation, and economic growth. As previously reported , over her career, the Vice President has long been committed to supporting small business and entrepreneurs.

Her campaign announcement during a speech in North Hampton, New Hampshire, at the Throwback Brewery , a women-owned business that has been in operation for more than a decade, gives us more insight into what her priorities for small business, entrepreneurs and innovators would look like. The Biden-Harris Administration has prioritized Main Streets across the country through legislation and executive orders. These efforts have led to 19 million in new recorded business applications since the start of the Biden-Harris Administration, an unprecedented number . Small businesses have also created 70% of net new U.S. jobs since 2019.

Vice President Harris’ plan calls for building on this success by setting a goal of 25 million new small-business applications during her first term. Here are the policy proposals designed to achieve it:

Tax Deductions

It takes on average about $40,000 to launch a small business for items that include market surveys, advertisements, equipment, and salaries for workers in training. However, the tax deduction for start-up expenses is currently $5,000. Vice President Harris’ plan would push for expanding this deduction to $50,000 for new small businesses to cover more of these costs and provide more flexibility on when and how they can claim it. For example, if they wait until they are bringing in profits, the deduction may be more beneficial to businesses at that time.

In addition, she has proposed a series of standard deductions for small businesses in filing taxes. An estimated one in three small business owners spend over a week filing taxes, and two in three spend at least $1,000 each year to do so. A standard deduction in the tax code akin to one available to individual filers can save the smallest businesses time and money.

Expanding Contract Opportunities

Vice President Harris also pledged that in her first term, one-third of all federal contract dollars will go to small businesses by expanding contract opportunities for rural and other underserved small businesses. The Small Business Administration’s current goal is for 23% of prime government contract dollars to go to eligible small businesses so this would be a significant increase. This represents an increase of more than $20 billion in revenue to small firms.

Small Business Expansion Fund

One challenge facing underserved Main Streets and communities is difficulty to attract capital. This is compounded by the fact that a small business needs time to generate the revenue needed to make initial loan payments. Vice President Harris’ plan would aim to address this by launching a small business expansion fund where community banks and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to cover interest costs while small businesses are expanding. This fund will help small businesses who want to locate, innovate, and create jobs in communities across the United States have access to affordable capital. It also builds on the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) 2.0, which was part of the American Rescue Plan , which provides funding to states, territories, and eligible municipalities to expand existing or to create new state small business investment programs.

Less Burdensome Regulations

The Vice President has also proposed steps to reduce bureaucracy for small business owners through efforts that include making it easier to obtain occupational licenses for workers and businesses to operate across state lines. Additionally, her plan would also create incentives for states and local governments to reduce burdensome small business regulations, such as simplifying business licensing, zoning processes, and building, public way, and health permits.

Several of the policy proposals she has outlined have already been championed by Democrats and Republicans. With that in mind, it is refreshing to see that she is already laying out her plans for job creators across the country and significant to see a presidential candidate develop an intentional strategy in support of the small businesses that play a critical role in our economic growth.

Nearly 9 in 10 Participants Intend to Roll Over Former Plan Assets in 2024

LIVONIA, Mich., Sept. 04, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nearly nine in ten (89%) former defined contribution (DC) plan participants who are likely to consider an IRA intend to initiate a rollover this year, a notable uptick from 82% last year. Millennials are leading the charge, citing significantly higher intent at 94% versus 82% in 2023. First and Second Wave Boomers are the most lucrative cohorts to target, respectively holding $445K and $133K in former employer-sponsored retirement plans (ESRPs). That is according to the latest DC Participant Planscape™ report from Cogent Syndicated by Escalent, which is designed to help DC plan providers maximize participant contributions, enhance engagement, leverage cross-sell opportunities and attract rollover dollars.

DCPP PR-Chart

Findings from the study further reveal former plan assets are becoming more fluid. Fewer participants report holding former ESRP assets in-plan for six or more years (61% vs. 67% in 2023), stemming from declines among First Wave Boomers and participants who have investable assets of at least $100K.

“That said, we are also observing a trend in which participants are content leaving their assets in former employer plans. In fact, investment performance, range of investment options and advisor recommendations have become even bigger motivators for keeping plan assets parked,” said Sonia Davis, lead report author and senior product director in Escalent’s Cogent Syndicated division. “In addition, mentions of participant inertia are declining, reflecting a more intentional management of retirement funds.”

Meanwhile, rollover candidates are more likely to be working with traditional advisors and are trending wealthier. Nearly six in ten likely rollover candidates are working with traditional advisors, up from 44% last year. The average investable assets within this cohort is up from $620K in 2023 to $950K this year.

“We’re seeing increased engagement and a lot more reliance on financial advisors from younger generations especially. Gen Zers, Millennials and Gen Xers are generally more receptive to advisor outreach and eager for knowledge and guidance,” continued Davis.

Participants are increasingly citing job changes, the desire to consolidate, lower fees and former plan provider outreach as key catalysts for initiating rollover activity. In addition, financial advisors play a significant role in influencing decisions across all generational cohorts, highlighting their involvement in the rollover education and consideration process.

“Financial advisors are participants’ go-to resource for rollover guidance and play an instrumental role in the decision-making process,” added Davis. “In the years ahead, there is a clear opportunity for advisors and providers to capitalize on participants’ heightened interest and engagement levels.”

About DC Participant Planscape™ Cogent Syndicated, a division of Escalent, conducted an online survey of a representative cross-section of 3,452 DC plan participants from June 3 to June 18, 2024. Survey participants were required to be 18 years or older and contribute at least 1% to a current plan and/or have $5,000 or more in at least one former plan. Targets were set to investor gender, region, age, education and household income using US census data filtered by the screening criteria (a market-sizing flyover survey was used to filter the US census data). The data have a margin of error of ±1.67% at the 95% confidence level. Escalent will supply the exact wording of any survey question upon request.

Vancouver Art Gallery reassesses its grand ambitions for new building

globe landline business plan

The gallery, to date, has raised more than $355-million, too far from the current projected cost of $600-million. ETHAN CAIRNS/The Canadian Press

Developer and philanthropist Michael Audain was on vacation in Bangkok when he saw the news: The Vancouver Art Gallery was pausing construction on its new building. He was surprised and upset, but not shocked. Mr. Audain, who has pledged $100-million to the project, said he had known for some time that the gallery’s projected costs had ballooned.

Last year, at a celebratory ground-awakening ceremony, the figure to realize a two-decade-long dream of a signature new home for some of British Columbia’s most important cultural treasures – to replace the current, inadequate building – was pegged at $400-million. That figure is now $600-million and the art gallery says it is working on making the building, as its board chair describes, “a little less architecturally excessive.”

“I’m very disappointed that the current project is not proceeding,” said Mr. Audain, an avid art collector and cultural benefactor whose pledge came with conditions.

The gallery, to date, has raised more than $355-million, too far from the current projected cost to begin the big-ticket work of digging the deep hole, ordering materials, renting equipment – and borrowing the money to do so. This was supposed to begin next month. After acknowledging the soaring costs and pause in construction to The Globe and Mail last week, the gallery put out a hasty statement the following day, announcing the increased costs and the resulting pause.

The Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) has already spent just over $60-million on the project. The money has gone to preconstruction costs: design, architects, trades, the gallery’s chief executive Anthony Kiendl said this week. He said he believes spending 10 per cent of the projected budget is “normal” for a project at this stage. Still, if the budget is coming down to $400-million (or so), $60.5-million (so far) is well more than 10 per cent.

Vancouver Art Gallery delays planned construction of new building, citing costs

“We maintained the $400-million as a campaign target because that was what we felt we could reliably do and succeed on,” said Mr. Kiendl, when asked why the gallery stuck with the outdated figure for so long.

“And we’ve been driving to that number both in terms of fundraising and cost savings. And it just recently got to a breaking point where neither were moving enough. So now we have to do something more significant.”

Construction never really began, in spite of the New Vancouver Art Gallery website that states construction commenced on March 6, 2024. Site remediation work has occurred, after the dismantling of temporary modular housing, work paid for by the city. Actual construction had been due to start in October. Now, it’s on “a pause of unknown duration,” as Mr. Kiendl put it.

Gallery officials are both working to cut costs and to raise more money, with an emphasis on the former. The B.C. government, which has already given $100-million, has said it has not yet considered further provincial funding. Mr. Audain said he’s disappointed the federal government has not contributed more. (The federal contribution was just under $30-million in 2022, most of it tied to the project’s sustainability goals.)

There has been no discussion by VAG officials about abandoning the site, given to the gallery in a long-term lease by the city more than 10 years ago. The Herzog and de Meuron design is still in play. Mr. Kiendl says they are working with the team “to explore new design possibilities and to retain as much of the work and knowledge we have acquired together over the past couple of years of design development.”

Alterations have been made and there will be more. VAG officials say they will maintain the core values of the project: significantly more exhibition and storage space; an improvement in education facilities; sustainability (carbon neutral construction and operation); and the gallery remains committed to the woven façade developed with local First Nations.

Other than that, anything goes – and anything may go.

“The building might look different; I don’t know yet,” Mr. Kiendl said. “But we’re also considering every option.”

The main aspect of the design that’s being scrutinized, says board chair Jon Stovell, are the cantilevers in the boxes-on-boxes design.

“These large floors that hang out over other floors … are driving unnecessary high costs,” Mr. Stovell said in an interview this week. “So making a building that’s behaving a little more rationally in terms of, you know, following the rules of gravity and not having these big overhung areas is probably some of the direction we’re going to go in.”

Still, he maintains that a wow factor is important for a new gallery. The building, he said, should be “a place that you want to go and look at the building, as well as the art,” he said.

“I don’t think it needs to be as exuberant as it’s been, but it still needs to be better than just a box.”

Mr. Stovell said he envisions a “fairly quick pivot” to the revised plan, which could be seen as an urgent priority given that years of shifting plans and timelines, through several premiers, mayors and a new gallery director, have tried the patience of some donors.

“The VAG is making a lot of excuses,” said Claudia Beck, a former board member and donor, with her late husband Andrew Gruft, of a significant photography collection. Ms. Beck also learned about the indefinite pause in construction through The Globe’s story.

“Get with it and raise the $250-million or look like fools or very provincial or worse, incompetent,” she wrote in an e-mail to The Globe.

“How does it feel to be a culturally mediocre city? It is making me sick.”

Ms. Beck urged local civic-minded people and nationally prominent companies – she named London Drugs, Lululemon and Aritzia – to “come to the rescue” of the gallery.

“My question is: If you cut more, what is going to be left?”

This week, Mr. Audain said his $100-million pledge becomes payable when certain conditions are met.

“Those conditions have not been met to date obviously and look like they’re unlikely to be met, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not going to be interested in supporting a revised project,” he said.

He noted his donation was to the Herzog and de Meuron building. “So if that’s not going ahead, we will just have to find out what is going ahead.”

In the intervening years, Mr. Audain, who was once actively involved as co-chair of the VAG’s building committee, has remained committed to supporting and funding major art institutions. He has since built his own art museum in Whistler, B.C. (the Audain Art Museum opened in 2016) and his Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation is now constructing a pavilion at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec in Montreal. The groundbreaking for that $84-million project took place in May, with the grand opening expected in 2026.

“I am delighted about that,” Mr. Audain said, “but I’m sorry that my hometown can’t get something going after almost 20 years.”

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to indicate that temporary modular housing at the site of the new Vancouver Art Gallery was dismantled, not demolished.

‘These four votes matter.’ Trump’s dreams of winning New Hampshire have dimmed since Harris, but some still see hope.

A flag on the side of the Gibbons Highway in Wilton, N.H.

CONTOOCOOK, N.H. — Two months ago, New Hampshire Republicans were jubilant as polls showed former president Donald Trump neck and neck with President Biden in a state that hadn’t backed a Republican for president since 2000.

The message was clear: If New Hampshire’s four electoral votes were competitive, Democrats’ national presidential reelection chances were in peril.

Those dreams have taken a beating since the Democratic ticket’s made-for-TV turnabout. Trump and his top surrogates have not visited in months, and his campaign doesn’t seem to be advertising there with much gusto. A top volunteer with Trump’s Massachusetts operation sounded alarms over the weekend by asserting the campaign did not believe New Hampshire was in play.

Meanwhile, the newly minted Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris , plans to stump in the Portsmouth area Wednesday. Trump last visited the state in January. On Wednesday, after the Globe’s story about a Trump volunteer claiming New Hampshire was “no longer a battleground state” got widespread attention, Trump told a local radio station he would visit before the election.

Granite State Republicans once bullish about a Trump victory now feel more apprehensive. Some argue the enthusiasm around the Harris-Walz ticket stems from a new-nominee high that will diminish as voters see more. Others are focusing their efforts on New Hampshire’s competitive down-ballot races as presidential surveys there swung back in Democrats’ favor.

globe landline business plan

Fred Doucette, Trump’s New Hampshire co-chair in 2016 and 2020, echoing numerous other N.H. Trump supporters, said winning the state “is still a possibility, but it all has to be done correctly; everybody has to be rolling in the same direction.”

“As much as we’re not a priority by any stretch of the imagination, we’re also not the red-headed stepchild either. These four votes matter — just ask Bush,” he added, referring to the 2000 election in which a New Hampshire victory proved decisive for George W. Bush.

On Tuesday, Trump took to social media to proclaim his commitment to New Hampshire, where a 2016 primary victory helped launch him to the White House. He reminded voters that Republicans respected its first-in-the-nation primary status while Democrats pushed the contest later in the nominating calendar.

“Kamala Harris sees there are problems for her campaign in New Hampshire because of the fact that they disrespected it in their primary and never showed up,” he wrote on Truth Social.

He went further on Wednesday, telling The Pulse of N.H.: “It’s a very important place in terms of winning this election. It could come down to New Hampshire. I’ll be there.”

Trump’s lack of visibility there, however, extends beyond his personal absence. The last major campaign surrogate to visit New Hampshire was North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum in April. Several high-profile Democrats stumped for Biden and then Harris this summer, including Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker last weekend . Biden visited several times before dropping out. The Trump campaign and its allies spent less than $4,000 on advertising in New Hampshire in August, according to AdImpact, compared to nearly $11 million before the January primary.

The Trump campaign office in Manchester, when visited by a Globe reporter, was decorated with Trump signage that did not include his running mate, US Senator JD Vance of Ohio. A spokesperson for the Republican National Committee said the party had “several staff” in New Hampshire but did not specify how many. The Harris campaign said its coordinated campaign effort, which shares space with local party operations, has 17 field offices.

Trump’s viability came under further scrutiny when Tom Mountain, then a vice chair for Trump’s Massachusetts operation, wrote in an email to volunteers Sunday claiming the campaign had “determined that New Hampshire is no longer a battleground state .” Trump officials refuted the claim.

Many Republicans acknowledge Harris is a more formidable opponent than Biden, who was dogged by concerns about his age and ability to serve another four years.

“She has the policy baggage, but she doesn’t have that age thing working against her, and that was a big motivating factor in tamping down Democratic enthusiasm,” said Scott Maltzie, the Merrimack County GOP chairman.

Maltzie and others argue Harris’s support has been fueled by relief over Biden dropping out. They, alongside national Republicans, believe messaging on prominent issues such as the economy and border security will weaken her appeal.

“Every new candidate gets a honeymoon period, then [she’ll get] a little bit of convention hangover, and then they’re just going to hope and pray that will carry them all the way through ... November,” said Ross Berry, the New Hampshire director for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid. “It could run out of steam.”

New Hampshire Republican Party chairman Chris Ager said they planned to remind voters of Harris’s unsuccessful 2020 run, including how Biden “destroyed” her in the primary, and the more progressive positions she supported.

Much of Trump’s New Hampshire presence comes from grassroots support. A state Senate candidate hosted a viewing last month of “Hillbilly Elegy,” the movie based on the bestselling book by Vance. Supporters marched with Trump signs in local parades and participated in car “Trump trains.”

Crissy Kantor, the campaign’s Manchester chair, said they were “just getting going” with phone banking and canvassing efforts. The N.H. Trump campaign headquarters on Tuesday hosted a “kickoff training for Trump Force 47″ featuring Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski.

“I’m going to vote on policy, even if I don’t like the person, and I hope other people can do that,” Kantor said. “I do think [Trump] can tone it down, but when you’ve been thrown so many things ... how do you not fight back?”

Some predict Trump will have trouble winning over independent voters, who comprise 37 percent of the electorate , saying his penchant for personal attacks could be a turn off. He’s called Harris “defective,” reposted crude sexual remarks , and questioned her racial identity . New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu in August wrote an op-ed urging Republicans to “stop the trash talk.”

“All he’s done in the last month is reinforce doubts about him that I think many centrist voters have, people who may not normally be inclined to support a Democrat and who had reservations about Joe Biden,” said Fergus Cullen, a former state GOP chairman who opposes Trump. “Harris has put all of those voters back into a position where she can earn their support.”

Fractures among Republicans remain, including some Nikki Haley supporters who call Trump’s efforts to reach them lackluster. Jeanene Cooper, a New Hampshire co-chair for Haley’s campaign who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, said she was considering writing in Haley for president after Trump’s attacks during the primary, including his comment that Haley donors would be “permanently barred from the MAGA camp.”

Haley’s plea at the Republican National Convention for her supporters to back Trump briefly inspired Cooper to vote for him. That feeling evaporated during Trump’s acceptance speech.

“He did nothing to reach out to people like me and just again talked about himself and his grievances,” Cooper said, referencing the 43 percent of primary voters who supported Haley. “I’m just tired about it being about him and not about the American people.”

The Harris campaign, meanwhile, is courting disaffected Haley voters in its “Republicans for Harris” initiative.

At the Hopkinton State Fair in Contoocook, N.H., Friday, signs of Trump support abounded: Several booths sold merchandise including bobbleheads in his likeness and T-shirts with images of when he was shot. Ardent fans bought tickets in hopes of winning a painting of the former president surrounded by a ring of guns.

But most of the 20 fairgoers approached by a reporter as they waited in lines for rides and food vendors said they were enthusiastically backing Harris, reinvigorated by Biden’s departure. Those who weren’t expressed doubts about Trump’s electability in the state.

“I liked him at first, but his mouth gets in the way,” said Kathy Kierstead, a 65-year-old from Henniker, N.H., who supported Trump in 2020. “If he can calm it down, they might be able to do it, but if he doesn’t, I don’t think he’ll win.”

The soonest I’ve heard of this DUO SVC thing, it definitely raised interest of most people I know. For everyone’s information, I did my own research too and just found out from Globe’s Customer Service that the whole of RIZAL area is now included in the NCR (02) Local area code for toll free communications starting April 12, 2009 only.

If we could all remember way back years ago, Globe used to have this Duo service already even before Smart did. I used to have 2 Globe handyphone subscriptions both in 1 sim then, but eventually had to split them when Globe decided to discontinue the service maybe due to lack of patrons on this type of technology. But like most of us, I too am very much a sucker for variety of wireless services (mainly for my business) which I keep in my bag that grows bigger by the day due to the increasing number of gadgets inside it. There’s my SUN for the 24/7 UNlimited call and text anywhere in the country, Globe for reliability esp. during emergencies, at least 2 landline sims (SunTel and PLDT Plus prepaid) one for incoming and one for outgoing – toll free calls for my family and clients, and Globe Tattoo for my laptop internet connection, all for the convenience while I’m on the road. With this Globe DUO Service, I think my bag can breath freely now with just 2 mobile phones inside it, still maintaining my SUN and my Globe for both mobile and landline service in one.

Incidentally, this type of service would definitely benefit men especially, who usually just carry 1 mobile phone with them to go about their daily routines.

Cheers to newer breakthroughs!! The more competitions the lower the burdens of cost for us consumers. Bring them on.. Congrats Globe!!!

Among other things which Globe should add to its service is the revival of the CALL BACK ALERT it had a few years ago. It is very useful in places where there is no signal (dead spot) or in places where cell phones are not permitted. In those times when you are waiting for an important business call or suddenly have an emergency call from a family member and there is a dead spot inside a building or in a location, this service is very useful. Smart has this service for its post paid subscribers wherein a text is sent to the subscriber if the subscriber misses a call. I have inquired about it but the only reply you can get from the customer service is “We will update you when this service is available”. This is their constant reply for years now. Maybe Globe just does not want us to turn our phones off if this service is revived. The more phones turned off, the lesser their revenue. I hope this is not the case.

Thanks for sharing the information. It is great to have two numbers on a single mobile.

' src=

Thanks for the information, Il definitely check this out, this will be very convenient than using a dual sim phones, which often have stability issue duirng actual operation

' src=

ma-try nga yan kung ok.

' src=

let me get this straight, with a DUO SIM card, one can call/receive landline calls on YOUR CELLPHONE with no minutes charge (i.e. FREE)?

' src=

I recently subscribe to this DUO promo because like mel, I am tired of carrying too many phones. I have smart (from work), globe and pldt landline plus. So when globe came up with this promo, I was so excited. There is no problem connecting from globe to globe or from my globe to any landline or from a globeline landphone to my virtual land phone. The problem is connecting from a pldt land line to my virtual phone. Almost impossible to get through. I hope Globe can do something about this.

' src=

DUO promo of globe, that was nice. I have globe subscriber friend and he used to text me constantly even though I’m using different network that’s when I found about that promo.

' src=

It’s Globe’s response to Sun Cellular’s predatory pricing. Hehe.

Have you seen the new TVC from Globe? It’s quite cute, in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way. They call it Globe Duo or Die and phones commit suicide in the ad. It’s really creative and funny and delivers the message—subscribe to Duo or else you’re dead—quite well. Has anyone seen it? It’s in Youtube now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2zGFkGMrW0

Has anyone tried Globe’s new service called DUO? It combines landline and cellphone in one SIM. It sounds practical, given that we don’t have to carry more than one cellphone around. They have a new TVC out and it’s pretty cool. You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2zGFkGMrW0 What do you guys think of this new service?

' src=

^^double post ka pare, mukhang may prob internet connection mo or spam ka lang, anyways it wont matter kasi i have to agree na oks ang globe duo.hassle free siya talaga, convenient and affordable pa. tawagan up to sawa!

' src=

I’m currently subscribed to the Duo Service and I’ve been experiencing the benefits of the service. I was on a job hunt and because of the service, I have never missed a call even when I’m out. One time when I was about to be interviewed, a call came in from another company, and I was asked to come for another interview that same day. It’s a good thing I did not miss the call because that company hired me. Great service Globe!!!

' src=

' src=

I certainly agree to Rian!

That really saves your time, money and energy. It is indeed practical especially for those who are on the run……

Two Thumbs Up!

Asking why only within Metro Manila and not in the province…..

I think they have their reasons as well….

Metro Manila as a Business Central District, whereas each and everyone is on the Go!

' src=

Well, on the first few days I have used the service was ok. But after a week I cannot connect to PLDT landlines anymore. It always say that the network is busy. Might have been a network congestion on Globe’s part. So the 450 pesos I paid for a month subscription is going nowhere.

' src=

GLOBE DUO IS (BULLSHIT) U CNT MAKE ANY OUTGOING CALL TO ANY PLDT LINE, SA UNA LNG CLA MAGALING,MAGALING SA PROMOTION , KAPAG NAPA DAMA NKYO, WLA NG OUTGOING AND IM (FUCK UP FOR 1 MONTH SUBSCRIPTION)

' src=

Im happy with the service im getting from Globe. Globe Duo is the best!

Globe Duo is working perfectly for me though since i subscribed to the service just last month, Globe made an action to the previous complaints. I’m really impressed with this service from Globe!

' src=

Well, it seems like Sun is taking Globe head-to-head on the mobile landline scene: http://bit.ly/qMWX0

It says there that Sun just re-introduced their double unlimited package as a 2-in-1 SIM, just like Globe’s Duo service.

And, as expected from Sun, their offering it for only P249 on top of your MSF. Offer appears to be for postpaid subscribers only, well, at least for now.

' src=

alang kuwenta!!! nag-try ako mag-register for 1 day just to try it, nka-register naman & globe had given me a landline # (02-5046367)… pero hindi ako naka-connect kahit once sa kahit anong landline!!! its a waste of money & time really…and when i called 211 (globe toll-free prepaid hotline) the customer service told me that there are some globe prepaid nos. that are still not set by the system for globe duo including mine (09176670566)!!! huh??? at wala sila masabi kundi “sorry for the inconvenience”… bullshit….

' src=

sa una lang pala ok ang duo… huh!

nik, paano ung sa sun explain u nga? no coverage nya?

' src=

well i just subscribed to globe duo using my prepaid globe phone last oct 11, 5pm. i can receive calls from pldt landlines, but not the other way around. i thought this issue was already fixed. bayantel lines work well though. i called globe and they said after the complaints during the past month, the duo to pldt issue was already resolved. called their cust service for 3 times, and the rep who last talked to me said to wait for 3-5 days before it gets serviced. according to her, to enjoy and make ‘sulit’ (her term) use of the globe duo subscription, i should call instead bayantel lines. and i was like, omg, you’re telling me to make the most out of it by calling bayantel lines while all i need to call are business lines which are mostly pldt? well it’s their cust service rep.

and my subscription is 1 month, since i joined without qualms. what if the subscription is less than 3-5 days? then everything went to nothing? until now, oct 13 7am, i still can’t call pldt lines. globe doesn’t deliver, at least on my end. so frustrating.

' src=

for me GLOBE DUO is the best. Galing galing ng service nato, im using postpaid though.

My 1mo Globe Duo plan is not working again; worked for only 1.5 days in the past 6 days. after 5 complaints, think i’m done. i’m giving up.

Globe Duo is a great, innovative idea, but an unreliable service. 450 went to nothing, with lost transactions and other economic costs. sad.

maybe it’s only good for postpaid subscribers.

' src=

Hindi ko satisfy sa service ng duo.. hindi ako macontact sa ibang landline! 🙁

' src=

WALANG KWENTO ITONG DUO, NAGREGISTER AKO NGAYON FOR 1 DAY, DI NAMAN AKO MATAWAGAN NG LANDLINE, BULSHIT KAYO, BUTI NA LANG NAITRY KO MUNA SA 1 DAY.

' src=

globe duo sucks. ever since i subscribed i can’t contact a single landline, and my friends tell me that they can’t contact me thru landline either. the only numbers i can call are other globe duos. don’t waste your money

' src=

this service is now available to prepaid sim. 🙂

' src=

This site definitely has all the information and facts I wanted about this subject and didn’t know who to ask.
