A typical Math Medic lesson always has the same four parts: Activity, Debrief Activity, Important Ideas, and Check Your Understanding. Here are the cliff notes: Activity: Students are in groups of 2 - 4 to work together through the questions in the Activity, often having to "do" something like take a measurement or collect a sample.

Today we will focus in on just arithmetic sequences. Our goal is for students to use their understanding of patterns and recursive formulas to create explicit formulas for arithmetic sequences. We also will draw students' attention to the fact that when graphed, arithmetic sequences form a straight line. Later this chapter, we will connect ...

In today's lesson students look at the end behavior of a polynomial function. You will notice that the approach we use is a different one. While generally students explore end behavior from an inductive approach (here are a bunch of functions and their graphs, can you find connections between the degree, leading coefficient, and end behavior?) in AP Precalculus we are taking a deep dive into ...
Repeat this process with a different student. For the third student, have them pick an angle, then quickly switch to the second slide that has all the points labeled. The student should be able to quickly describe the location of their angle using the points in the picture. Have students reflect on why figuring out what angle the student was ...
When discussing the function notation in the QuickNotes be sure to emphasize that f (a) represents a y-value, it is the output value corresponding to an input value of a. Many students can easily identify "b" as the output but still think f (a) is just a naming convention for the entire function, instead of an actual output. Math Medic is a ...
The first and last terms (2 + 16 = 18) show us what the sum of the pairs should be. Since we're pairing, we take the number of terms and divide it by two to find the number of pairs. This would leave them with 4 pairs of 18. They can use this idea to find the pairs for a staircase with 21 stairs. Another way students can approach this problem ...
Each student needs 3 colored pencils. Our students were already familiar with graphing linear inequalities, but if yours are not you will want to spend some time on that first. You'll notice that all of the inequalities are ≤ or ≥ statements. This is helpful in case students aren't familiar with using a dashed vs. a solid line.
Domain and range are introduced informally today as the set of inputs and the set of outputs, respectively. Tomorrow, students will explore the domain and range from a graphical perspective. Math Medic is a web application that helps teachers and students with math problems.
The QuickNotes also go through vocabulary and definitions that students will need. After going over those, give students some time to do the Check Your Understanding problems with their group. It should go pretty quick. If possible, go over answers before class is over. Math Medic is a web application that helps teachers and students with math ...
First, students take note that squares, rectangles, and rhombi must all have the parallelogram properties. This ties together ideas from Lessons 5.1 and 5.2. Next, students explore the properties of rectangles and rhombi by drawing their diagonals. Make sure to have students stop after question 3. The Notice and Wonder should surface many ideas ...
