Zasady pisania rozprawki typu opinion essay po angielsku

Pisząc rozprawkę, w której przedstawiamy własną opinię należy stosować się do zasad poprawnej gramatyki, a nawet wprowadzić bardziej zaawansowane konstrukcje gramatyczne. Trzeba również mieć na uwadze rodzaj stylu. W tym wypadku obowiązuje styl formalny. Rozprawka powinna być podzielona na akapity. Limit słów to 200-250.

1. Wstęp – wprowadzenie tematu, podanie tezy z własną opinią .

Although zoos are very popular attractions for adults and children alike, they are very controversial. Many people  argue that such places are useless and animals suffer physically and mentally. In my opinion , even though zoos are not perfect, they do have useful functions.

2. Rozwinięcie  – realizacja tematu, podanie przykładów, szczegółowe omówienie argumentów.

Prezentacja własnej opinii z co najmniej dwoma argumentami/przykładami, potwierdzenie tezy.

Firstly, zoos are places of education because they help children appreciate nature. Also, thanks to research in zoos people know more about zoology, genetics and even psychology.

Secondly,  zoos can protect the future of many animal species. Species that are in danger of extinction, may breed in zoos so that many animals have a chance of survival.

Critics of zoos say that such places are cruel. They think so because, in their opinion, zoos cannot recreate the environment in which animals live. That makes animals depressed and bored. What is more, animals have frequent contact with visitors who come to zoos and this may be stressful for them.

3. Zakończenie  – podsumowanie zgodne z tematem i treścią wypowiedzi i/lub sformułowana inaczej własna opinia.

Although zoos are not perfect places for animals, I think that they have more pros than cons. As long as people hunt animals and destroy their environment, zoos are very useful.

  • wprowadzenie i teza,
  • argumenty za,
  • argumenty przeciw,
  • podsumowanie

Wprowadzenie

Zacznijcie od np. 2-3 zdań ogólnego wstępu, np. For ages, people have been inhabiting various areas. In the past, the vast majority of people used to live in villages. Nowadays, more and more of us decide to settle in cities.

Później koniecznie wyraźnie napiszcie tezę swojej rozprawki, np. However, living in the city has both advantages and disadvantages, as outlined below.

opinion essay matura 2023

Ważne, aby napisać 3 – 4 argumenty. Pierwsze zdanie powinno być wprowadzeniem, np. Living in the city has some positive aspects. Następnie przechodzimy do wymieniania argumentów. Przydatne słownictwo:

Argumenty przeciw

Zdaniem wprowadzającym może być: On the other hand, living in the city also entails a few drawbacks.

Podsumowanie

All things considered, living in the city has both advantages and disadvantages ( powtarzamy tezę ). I personally believe that a number of positive aspects outweigh the negative ones.

Opinion essay

Rozprawka typu opinion essay (wyrażenie swojej opinii)

Zwroty przydatne podczas pisania rozprawki:

Do wyrażania własnej opinii:.

In my opinion/In my view – Moim zdaniem

I strongly believe – Ja zdecydowanie uważam

The way I see it/It seems to me that … – Według mnie …

Do wprowadzania pierwszego argumentu:

In the first place/First of all – Przede wszystkim

To start/Begin with – Na wstępie

Firstly – Po pierwsze

Do wprowadzania następnych argumentów:

Another major reason – Innym ważnym powodem

What is more/Furthermore/Moreover – Co więcej

In addition to … /Additionally – Na dodatek …

Also – Również

Apart from … – Oprócz …

Do wprowadzania przeciwnego punktu widzenia:

Contrary to – Wbrew temu

It is argued that/People argue that … – Istnieje odmienna opinia że …

On the other hand – Z drugiej jednak strony

Opponents of this view say – Przeciwnicy tego punktu widzenia twierdzą

There are people who oppose – Są ludzie którzy uważają inaczej

As opposed to above ideas – Jako opozycja do powyższych myśli

Contrary to what most people believe – Wbrew temu co sądzi większość ludzi

Do wprowadzania przykładów popierających tezę:

For example/For instance – Na przykład

such as – tak/takie jak

Especially – Zwłaszcza

In particular – Przede wszystkim

Sample Answer

Presently, newspapers, books, journals, magazines, etc. are still actively used by a section of the global population. However, with the arrival of news sites and the availability of books, magazines and other forms of media online, totally free of cost, many believe that such forms of media are on their way to becoming outdated. I agree with this statement, and will explain it further with relevant examples in the essay.

It is a well-known fact that in this day and age if an individual wants to read a book or just go over the news of the day, the first step that they take is to search the internet. Devices such as smartphones and tablets have improved the time efficiency of searching for information online to such an extent that a person can access their preferred form of media in the comfort of their homes in a matter of minutes. Consequently, people have started to abandon their preference for print media due to the presence of much more convenient alternatives.

Additionally, the various forms of print media enjoyed by people can often be availed free of charge on several websites. For instance, most news organizations publish their daily news on their official website, which can be accessed by anyone. Also, some numerous sites and databases provide popular books, journals and magazines in a digital form to the public for a nominal subscription fee or sometimes even for free, leading to a majority of readers of such forms of media shifting away from buying hard copies.

Nevertheless, there is still a sizable chunk of the population that enjoys the conventional forms of print media. That being said, with the cost-effective nature of making such information and content available online, organizations will soon completely shift to internet-based services.

In conclusion, I would like to say that people always prefer the more comfortable alternative that is available. Therefore, it can be safely said that in the coming years, there will be a complete shift from traditional print media to online media services and products.

Sample Question 2

Some people say that international sporting events contribute greatly to peace and stability in the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Paraphrase the topic sentence using synonyms.

Mention the view on the topic.

Body Paragraphs

International sports tournaments are events where teams and the general public of various countries come together and collectively participate in the event.

Sports events, especially cricket and football help distract the minds of the citizens from the ongoing difficulties in their country and enjoy these events.

Summarize the essay and state the final view.

Sports has always been a magnificent platform for the finest talents of a country to showcase their skills and represent their nation. At the same time, sports is also one of the few occasions where every citizen of the country unites in support of their favourite teams. It is considered by many that sports are a great approach to maintain stability among countries. This essay will elaborate on the given topic and justify why sports can successfully bring and preserve global peace.

One of the greatest characteristics of any popular sporting event is that supporters of every team involved in the tournament almost always attend the matches that are organized in their cities. Some veteran fans even travel to different parts of the country to witness a match between their favourite teams. These events also unite the populace of a nation as every patriotic individual prays for the success of their national team. For instance, the entire nation wishes for the victory of their national team in the Olympic Games as winning an Olympic Medal is one of the most prestigious honours that can be bestowed upon a country.

It is a well-known fact that the people of a country collectively face several challenges on a day-to-day basis. These issues can be caused by numerous factors and are the typical difficulties that ordinary citizens have to overcome. Sports help people enjoy a few moments of excitement and take a break from the monotony of everyday life.

That being said, sometimes the passion of overenthusiastic sports fans ends up leading to harmful and conflicting situations among communities. Nevertheless, the overall impact of sports on our lives is undoubtedly positive.

Finally, sports are one of the aspects of human life that bind a whole community together. This is enough evidence to understand that sports help maintain peace and stability in a nation.

Sample Question 3

Our personalities are predetermined as a result of our genes before we are born and there is nothing that can be done to change our character traits. To what extent do you agree?

Paraphrase the topic and mention the view.

Genetics are only a part of the entire list of factors that affect a person’s personality.

One of the most important influences on an individual’s personality is their childhood and upbringing.

Summarize the essay and mention the final view in brief.

Even between small periods of time, there are subtle variabilities in our disposition. Such alterations are quite natural and are a part of a human being’s existence. However, it is often assumed that our personality is entirely dependent on genetics. The following paragraphs will explore the different aspects of personality and justify why genetics are not the only factor influencing our personality.

An individual has countless experiences in their life from childhood to adulthood and finally until death. Every one of these experiences has an impact on a person’s mind, no matter how giant or small. The kind of people present in a person’s immediate surroundings also has a huge influence on their nature and characteristics. Thus, it can be safely surmised that a person’s genes are not the only contributing factor when it comes to personality.

One of the most significant influences on our personality is our childhood experiences and the teachings of our parents. Children are always known to follow in the footsteps of their parents. Thus, if the parents of a child are successful in teaching their children the right values and morals, they are bound to grow into responsible and decent individuals.

It is true that the personality traits of an individual are determined by the features of their parents. Nevertheless, these traits can be altered over the course of many years and different experiences.

In conclusion, genetics affect our personalities in a trivial manner as compared to all the other aspects of our temperament. That being said, our life experiences and learnings are the consequential factors in developing our character.

CLASS OF 2023, I PRESENT: ✨The Alternate Essay Timeline for Less Stress and Better Writing✨

Hi, A2C! I read a Best of A2C post this time last year (as a junior) that totally changed how I approached my application process and made it a much better experience—but I searched back through Best of A2C and it is gone! So for all of your benefit, here is the alternate timeline for college essays for less stress and better writing (side note: if I actually just missed the post and someone digs it up, please link it! It was great and I’m mostly rehashing what it said from my own experience).

The standard A2C essay process is as follows: summer before senior year, brainstorm personal statement topics, write and polish a draft you really like by the end of summer. Fall semester, compile your supplemental essay prompts and fit writing those in with your schoolwork, probably write a good chunk of your supplementals the weekend they’re due if you’re a procrastinator. Get a couple applications turned in EA and wait to submit the rest RD so you can make sure your essays are polished.

There are some pros and cons to this approach.

You put a lot of time into your personal statement and feel confident about that piece of all your applications.

For many people, the personal statement is the most overwhelming part of the process, so you’re already done with that nightmare by the time you start school.

You can write all your supplements around the topic of your personal statement, so there isn’t too much overlap (or exactly the right amount).

Your personal statement is the first essay you write, so by the time you’re deep in the supplement grind, your essay topics and writing skills are better than they were for the personal statement.

Although your writing skills have improved, you have to rush the supplementals to get all of them done (you’ve probably got 16-36 depending on where you’re applying) and they aren’t high quality—this is especially significant because it’s my impression a lot of schools weight supplementals heavier than personal statements, just because they’re so school-specific.

You’ll probably miss some EA deadlines just because you can’t finish the supplementals for 5 schools that all have an 11/1 deadline the last week of October. No EA apps = lower admissions chances, senior year grades matter, longer wait for decisions, overall higher stress.

Here’s the alternative timeline: first week of summer, compile a list of the supplements for every school on your list from the previous year. A few of the prompts will change, but most won’t. Divide the number of essays you have to write by the weeks in your summer vacation. If there are 2-3 supplements per school and you apply to 8-12, that’s 16-36 essays and vacation usually has 12 weeks, so you’ve probably got 2-3 essays per week. Then, a couple mornings each week all summer, write a sloppy first draft of a supplemental. Fall semester, polish up your personal statement (see pro number 1 below), revise your supplemental essays at your own leisure, and submit EA applications on time!

Some of your supplementals are going to run long and those turn into great personal statement drafts! Plus, you’ll have a dozen essay topics/drafts to pick from instead of the maybe 3-4 you’d come up with if you were only trying to write the personal statement.

250 word essays with specific prompts are an easier and less overwhelming place to start than the long and open ended personal statement.

You get tons more practice writing new essays every week than working on the same one over a long period of time. By the time you’re finalizing a personal statement, you’ll have lots of practice!

Writing essays feels way more chill when it’s months before the deadline. You’ll be more creative and take more weird liberties with your writing. It’s hard to describe, but when you’re writing essays days before a deadline, every sentence feels like it could be a judgement on your future. Plus, your time is much more open during the summer, so if you’re really getting into the groove of an essay, you can work for hours at a time without needing to take breaks to finish your schoolwork.

By the end of the summer, you’ll always have something to submit for every school, even if it’s your bad first draft. And you’re guaranteed enough time to get outside edits.

Writing why school and why major essays can help you figure out what you really want to study and where you really want to apply. In June, I tried to write a why Purdue essay and couldn’t come up with anything, so I dropped it from my list. It’s better to have that realization in June than days before the deadline.

Ideally you want your supplements to overlap a little bit with your personal statement to reinforce major themes or character traits, but not so much that it’s repetitive. That can be a tricky balance to find when you’re writing supplementals before the personal statement.

Sometime supplemental essay prompts will change up on you and you’ll have to write new ones fall semester anyway.

For me what this process looked like:

I started writing supplementals the first week of June. My friends started their personal statements around the same time. We all stressed about it a little over the summer, but it felt much more relaxed for me since I was churning out tons of rough draft work instead of trying to perfect a single ultimate essay.

I sorted out a whole bunch of schools I didn’t really want to apply to early on when I failed to write their Why School essays. I had plenty of time to browse their websites, still came back with no inspiration, and struck all their supplementals off my list.

Towards the end of the summer, there was one supplemental essay I really loved but I couldn’t for the life of me get in the word limit. I took all my versions of that essay and smashed them together into a good personal statement draft. I only came up with it after writing dozens of other essays, and I don’t think I would have come up with it without that practice. Most of the drafts I wrote took a good bit of revision, but that process felt manageable when deadlines were close.

I actually didn’t use a lot of the essays I wrote. Many of my supplemental prompts were similar to each other, but I wrote a different draft for each one. When I was finalizing my applications, I’d pick the best of maybe 3 “contribution to community” essays, put some extra work into it, and submit that essay everywhere. Writing for each prompt forced me to get more creative, though, and I found better ideas that way.

This process meant I was able to submit early action applications at 6 schools. I did some more polishing before RD deadlines, but the essays were all in a submittable state by November EA deadlines. I then got my first EA acceptances in December, weeks before RD deadlines and when all my friends were at the height of their panic. I was able to drop a few stressful RD applications since I had that assurance and had a peaceful winter break. EA acceptances are really a godsend--I got the rest of my news in January and I've already had a couple months to do research, go on visits, and weigh my options and I still have a month and a half left to make a final choice. I obviously can't say exactly how much it was due to essays, but my extracurriculars were mediocre and I still hit 13/15 on acceptances including Yale, Brown, UChicago, and Duke, with full rides at three and merit scholarships everywhere that offered them. So if you ask me , THE SYSTEM WORKS!

Want to See a Play About Gwyneth Paltrow’s Ski Trial? How About 2?

Multiple shows at the Edinburgh Fringe make camp fun out of the 2023 civil action that spurred a thousand memes — and one of them is a triumph.

Three people pose on a stage lit with bright purple and pinkish lighting.

By Houman Barekat

Reviewing from Edinburgh

Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, was unsuccessful when he sued the actress turned wellness entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow over a collision on a Utah ski slope. Though he claimed that she had crashed into him, a jury determined it was actually his fault. The live-streamed 2023 civil case was an unseemly but strangely fascinating spectacle featuring two equally dislikable archetypes: the vexatious litigant and the preening, out-of-touch celebrity.

But in another sense, Sanderson won: His name is now forever etched into pop culture folklore, as not one but two new stage productions about the ski trial at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe attest.

The more rough and ready of the two, “ Gwyneth Goes Skiing, ” at the Pleasance Courtyard, is a camp burlesque in which both parties are mercilessly skewered. Linus Karp, in drag, plays Paltrow with the drawling malice of a pantomime witch. She’s an entitled girlboss whose altruistic affectations mask a sociopathic character, while Joseph Martin as Sanderson is dull mediocrity personified. The characters’ partners are played by plucky audience volunteers, aided by a teleprompter, and Kristin VanOrman, Sanderson’s lawyer, is represented as star-struck and hopelessly incompetent by a disheveled ventriloquist’s dummy, voiced by Martin.

In this telling, both Sanderson and his lawyer are driven not so much by monetary greed as by a pathetic desire to connect with Paltrow. They are moths to the flame of celebrity, and Sanderson’s vibe is that of a spurned lover. There are snowball fights, some jousting with skis and snatches of music. When Paltrow utters the immortal line that spurred a thousand memes, “ I lost half a day of skiing, ” the stage lighting switches to a deep red to emphasize the severity of her plight. At the end of the show, the audience gets to be the jury, voting via QR code to decide who wins.
