Darkstar won't lift off the runway during takeoff in landing challenge
Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?
Brief description of the issue:
During the challenge, darkstar won’t leave the runway despite the stick being full back. It’s like the gear is stuck to the ground. In normal non-challenge flight, I’m able to depart Miramar airport and get airborne, but it only rotates once it hits the absolute end of the runway, almost as if it is hitting a bump that frees the gear.
Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
Try to takeoff on landing challenge–results in a crash as you inevitably go off the runway and die. Try to depart miramar, hit the bump at end of runway and get airborne.
PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:
T16000M stick that has zero issues with anything to date
Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
Your parking brakes are on, release them and takeoff will be normal (I ran into the same issue)
Ditto. What makes it hard to know this is that the aircraft accelerates, albeit slowly, with the park brake on to a speed you’d think would be fast enough to take off with, it just never will.
For me under afterburner on, as it says in the mission description
I have the same problem and the parking brakes are off.
I can lift off the runway only in Top gun challenge. In other cases, Darkstar is unplayable.
im having the same problem as well. i just want to enjoy the craft outside of the challenge mode.
I had the same problem with the F-14; unable to lift the nose to takeoff attitude. In troubleshooting I realized I was trying to take off with a full fuel load and did not pay attention to the total gross weight. When I reduced the fuel and lowered the takeoff weight I was able to rotate for takeoff. After getting airborne I was able to simulate inflight refueling and continue the flight plan. Maybe it’s something to look into for the Darkstar.
Hello Creators.
My laptop is a 2021 Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 AMD 5900HS RTX3080 32giga of Ram. I use a Thrustmaster stick and a TrackIR. FS2020 has been running like an angel on this platform.
I feel it has nothing to do with the parking brake because the aircraft moves without resistance when close to idle thrust with brakes off. Also the plane does not move when the brakes are on. It is when you throttle up (after brake release) and as it stars running faster that appears this devil resistance striving to ground the aircraft on the nose wheel with banking right or left. It is like a “on front wheel wheely”. See Netiense video post in this discussion. That does not look like if someone had forgotten to release the parking brakes, or like if this aircraft shows motivation take you to the skys.
The problem only appears when you run it outside of the Maverick Challenge mode. Strangely it worked ok once with a cold startup from the ramp in open world airport. I could taxi normally but as soon as I reached the runway the plane went bananas again.
In some cases when throttling up, the four (why four btw?) engines rev crazy all the way up and never come down to idle again……………
Moreover if you start flying the aircraft from the airborne stage, it falls like a stone and wants to get inverted no matter what you do.
The full fuel load and total gross weight do not fix it either. What is a total gross weight if you cannot make the most of it. Again the plane dances oddly on the taxiway like if it wanted to go to the bathroom prior to taking the huge leap.
(Side note: I have the same issue with helicopters addons. The choppers just do not want to lift-off. The only one that works fine is the Airbus H135… Not sure if this could help).

Odd, that’s not my experience with it. This is how I take off in it and it seems to work in free flight without issue for me.
I agree with your comments and find the aircraft unplayable (not a word I have ever used about MS2020) so I have, for the first time ever, deleted the mod until it is fixed.
Looks like someone found the issue in the other thread for this, Legacy Flight Model strikes again.
I do so, turn off the parking brakes. But it doesn’t help me.
Well done Lads !! Now it flies like a bird, rather a fast bird. This is a new era to cruise around the globe and visit anywhere.
I have the exact same problem!
In have the same problem. The Darkstar works fine in the Top Gun challenge, but not in open world.
I also habe exactly the same problem with planes from Reno Air Race in Open World. The P51 is not controllable in Open World, but works great in Race.
I am also having problems with Darkstar and the Mavrick challenges. My Darkstar won’t even leave the ground. Flight control move, but don’t apprear to react. All my other aircraft fly fine. What’s up with that? On the F18 Maverick challenges, the countdown numbers all stay on the screen in a big white blob and never leave. You can clearly see the leftovers of the 3, 2, 1 & Go right in the middle of the screen… Has anyone else seen this type of behavior with the latest update too? Thanks.
Solution for broken flight dynamic Darkstar: switch the flight model to MODERN and restart from main menu I don’t have problem with big white blob, numbers

Darkstar won’t make scramjet transition
I’ve been trying the stratospheric flight challenge, along with just joyriding the darkstar. No problems from lift-off to Mach ~1.5. When I try to do the invert and dump alt for airspeed it’ll cap at about Mach 1.6 on the pitch back up. Full throttle and afterburner through the pull up, never reaches Mach 3 and engines starve for O2 at ~60,000FT, hitting the scram transition doesn’t seem to change anything.
Is the pitch/timing for hitting Mach 3+ really that critical?
Am I missing a simple step or am I insane?

Make sure afterburner are on and full throttle at 30k feet. Nose down until you hit 1.5 M. Raise nose slightly until you hit Mach 3. Once at Mach 3 hit the switch on the left snf above of joystick that says scram engines or something like that and hit the 4 square fuel cell to the right of the joystick. At that time, plane should switch to ...
The fuel cell is the part I missed without this the SCRAM jet will not work it just beeps. You will see Engine 3 and 4 Power up and eventually engine 1 and 2 will shut down. The engine air flow panel will show the air flow symbols switch from flowing through the air breathing engine to the bottom SCRAM jet engine "bypassing" the air breather.

Invert yourself and pitch down 20ish degrees, flip back upright after you pitch down you'll break mach pretty fast here then you just slowly pitch up full throttle still to about 10 degrees and hold it there until you breach mach 3.
The Darkstar is part of the "Top Gun: Maverick" expansion, which you can now download. More information on the update can be found here: https://www.flightsi...
By about 50,000 feet you should be 3.5+ Mach. Flip the switch to engage the Scramjet and lower the guard. Wait for warning signal to clear and for Scramjet to begin engaging - temperature of jet should be rising continuously. If yes then: Panel 2 - kill the fuel pumps to right and left engines; Right panel - turn off right and left engines.
Tutorial begins at: 00.03How to start the aircraft:1. Turn on the battery. (00.13)2. Turn on the "APU Master" (00.22)3. Turn on the second "Starter Engine" (...
Engines 1 & 2 are the turbojets, engines 3 & 4 are the scramjets. The DarkStar transitions between either pair. You don't get to run all four engines at once, so the turbojets will shut down beyond Mach 4 when the scramjets are engaged. Just did a flight from Andrews Air Base to Bristol Airport UK in the darkside.
Once the scramjets come up in the shallow dive, resume your climb and enjoy the upper stratosphere. Another method is to activate the scramjets lower during your climb, IIRC around FL500 to FL600. If you are going a decent speed with afterburners you should be able to skip the shallow dive altogether.
The Darkstar has four fuel tanks for the turbine engines and two fuel tanks for the scramjets. The four conventional tanks total 17,849 lbs of fuel. The scramjet tanks total 21,815 lbs of fuel. As far as I can tell, the only fuel gauge in the Darkstar is the visualization of the aircraft with the tanks showing in green.

I've had a couple questions regarding how to fly this thing - here's how I do it.
CommandProMC September 19, 2022, 5:52pm 10. Yes. Set your flight plan in the map before clicking fly. The map is in the bottom right of the main display. Hey folks - big fan of the new Top Gun expansion. I initially found the Darkstar a bit confusing, but I've made a quick tutorial here on how to configure the aircraft for Mach 9!
This video shows how to reach Mach 10 in the Darkstar from Top Gun Maverick in Microsoft Flight Simulator. This video does NOT use the traditional method/procedure shown on the primary flight display of the Darkstar, but a much easier method. Steps to reach Mach 10 are given which include how to setup a key bind for afterburners, activation of ...

the other two engines are the scramjet, in normal mode you have both regular jet engines running, look on the left side diagram, it shows it. also on page two it will show fuel pumps running for L and R. you cant start the scramjets below mach 3. Ha right, well how come it pulls to right straight away on take off and struggles to get in the air.

3 FPS in Experimental Darkstar Hello, I normally get 50-60 fps in open world/freeroam flying. I wanted to try out the experimental jet from the Top Gun movie and for 10 minutes of airtime I only got 3-5 Frames Per Second.
1. Reply. Share. TSB_1. • 2 yr. ago. It also depends on your altitude. I used to slew the F14 up to 250k and both engines would IMMEDIATELY flame out due to the lack of oxygen. Possibly the same thing. 2.
darkstar, aircraft, ms-store. Bushcasa July 4, 2022, 11:20pm 1. After transitioning from scramjet back to conventional flight, I keep getting a flameout after 5 or so minutes (below FL400). I still have at least 20% fuel. Tried all combinations of switches (fuel cell, engine/generator).
In our first model, shown in Figure 3, the Darkstar is flying at a speed of Mach 1.5. We used an inviscid flow model as an initial approach to visualizing the shock pattern around the Darkstar's fuselage. Figure 3 also shows the magnitude of the gradient of air density plotted on a horizontal plane together with the velocity field streamlines.

At Mach 3.0 (approx 50,000) engage scram. Engaging scram, complete steps in this order: Bring up fuel page and (second green square 🟩) select scram tank 1 and 2 to on. engage the scram jet fuel cell (4 green squares) then engage the guarded scram switch. Maintain 10 degrees nose up all the way to 275,000.
