Each job posting provides details on how to apply to jobs posted. Read and follow the instructions on each posting and submit your application for consideration for free.  There are no hidden charges , no separate district registrations, no document storage fees; absolutely no fees for Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.  That is how it should be for educators, zero fees to apply to jobs.

Expanded exposure for job posting as your ads will not only be placed on Education Canada Network's website but also many other leading job boards and education organizations including Indeed.ca, SimplyHired, Wow Jobs and JobVolume.com and within an expanding network of partnerships with federal/provincial education and teacher organizations.

Participate in a variety of online discussions to share your experience and teaching philosophy.

You can upload your own resume documents or fill out ECN's form resume. This resume will then be made available to subscribing employers to search and view.

8. Educator E-Portfolio

In order to create a better picture of your credentials, registered applicants can create a personal electronic portfolio. This portfolio will be searchable by employers as well as become an attachment any jobs to which you apply online. 

9. Cover Letter and Documents

You can submit a complete application package to employers. You can upload your own cover letter(s) along with other selected documents, which will be attached to any application via ECN's Apply Online feature.   Upload your registration documents, transcripts or university degrees, reference letters, work study reports, criminal records checks, etc.  

10. Saved  Searches

You can create a "Saved Search." A saved search is an email notification system whereby applicants can select the type of job they are looking for. When new jobs are added to ECN, you will receive an email that lists the new jobs.

Employers have the option to accept applications directly from ECN's database. When you see an "Apply Online" button on a job opportunity, this is an indicator that applicants can submit their cover letter, resume and other documents they have posted in ECN's database.   You can save an employer's profile and job opportunities with a simple click. Once saved, you can regularly monitor any new jobs posted by that school.  

12. E-Newsletters & Publications

Upon registering with ECN,you can sign-up for informative electronic newsletters. These publications provide valuable information on ECN's services, resources and employment opportunities found on the site. These are opt-in newsletters and we never give or sell your information to anyone.

A higher cost of living means that more students will need enhanced financial supports in order to pursue their studies and achieve their goals. That is why the Government of Canada has extended student financial assistance enhancements to continue for the 2024 to 2025 academic year.

September 3, 2024       Edmonton, Alberta      Employment and Social Development Canada A higher cost of living means that more students will need enhanced financial supports in order to pursue their studies and achieve their goals. That is why the Government of Canada has extended student financial assistance enhancements to continue for the 2024 to 2025 academic year.  Today, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, Randy Boissonnault, met with students, faculty and administration at MacEwan University in Edmonton to highlight Budget 2024 affordability measures for students. Changes to the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program came into effect for this school year and will continue to improve access and affordability for students in post-secondary education. This includes extending the Canada Student Loan limit increase to $300 per week of study for full-time students and the 40% increase to Canada Student Grants for full-time students, part-time students, students with disabilities and students with dependants, by one year. These changes also include permanently eliminating the credit screening requirement for students aged 22 and older who are applying for student financial assistance for the first time.   In 2024 to 2025, approximately 297,000 students will benefit from the extension of the weekly loan limit amount, while extending the temporary 40% increase to grants will help approximately 587,000 Canadian students. Permanently eliminating credit screening as a requirement for first-time student financial assistance applicants aged 22 and older is expected to impact approximately 1,000 Canadians annually. To better address the real cost of rent for students, Budget 2024 contained a measure to modernize the shelter allowances used by the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program to assess students’ financial needs. As of August 1, approximately $154.6 million over five years in additional student financial aid, with over $32.3 million per year ongoing, will help about 79,000 students each year.

Post-secondary education plays an essential role in allowing Canadians to pursue good careers. By persevering in their studies, young Canadians have a better chance to graduate from their post-secondary education into a bright future and contribute to the economy in a meaningful way. The Government of Canada is investing a total of $1.1 billion in 2024 to 25 to continue helping students through financial aid.

Quick facts

The Canada Student Financial Assistance Program provides Canada Student Grants and Canada Student Loans to help students pay for their post-secondary education.

The Canada Student Financial Assistance Program works in partnership with 10 provinces and territories to deliver student financial assistance. Quebec, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut receive alternative payments from the Government of Canada to administer their own student financial assistance measures.

Extending the increase to the loan limit continues to allow students with unmet funding needs to take out additional loans from the Government of Canada, without being charged interest.

About the Position

The Directors of Accounting Operations (“DAO”) assists the Senior Director of Accounting Operations in managing and leading the accounting operations (revenue & disbursements) team for Canada and Bermuda, ensuring the integrity of the accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.  The DAOs provide advice for the revenue and disbursement process to Territorial Headquarters (“THQ”) departments, divisional headquarters (“DHQ”) and ministry units (“MU”) in Canada and Bermuda as needed.  They recommend and administer policies and procedures pertaining to such matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides oversight and management for accounts payable and revenue functions:

• Manages the accounts payable and revenue functions for THQ, DHQs, and MUs and develops and implements accounting policies and procedures.
• Recruits, trains, supervises and develops staff.
• Ensures that all general ledger accounts related to accounting operations are regularly analyzed, reconciled and that the integrity of the master chart of accounts is maintained.
• Manages the accounts payable and accounts receivable sub-ledgers, ensuring regular reconciliation and adjusting entries are recorded in a timely manner. Brings any concerns to the attention of the management of the client entities.

Provides financial management oversight:

• Review and authorize release of disbursement instruments (cheques, drafts, EFT or bank transfers), ensuring expenditures have been properly approved and are supported by adequate documentation.
• Manages accounts payable to ensure that payment discounts are taken and liabilities are discharged as they become due.
• Reports to the Senior Director of Accounting Operations, any deviations from established expenditure policy.
• Manages accounts and loans receivable to ensure timely collection of amounts due.
• Follow-up on outstanding accounts; bring significant overdue amounts to the attention of the management of the client entity.
• Regularly works with financial accounting to resolve deficits by freezing disbursements where required.

Provides tax management:

• Ensure appropriate rebates are identified and reported in applicable GL accounts
• Ensure appropriate taxes are billed to customers of The Salvation Army
• Provide advice and guidance to S.A. personnel concerning HST, GST, and PST tax matters
• Assist in the training and development of personnel with respect to HST, GST, and PST tax matters.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Director of Accounting Operations will have a university degree (preferably with a major or concentration in accounting) and CPA designation.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

• At least five years of related accounting/business work experience and at least two years at the managerial level
• Supervisory and leadership experience

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

• Excellent computer skills
• Ability to work under minimal direction
• Ability to read, understand and modify complex text where accuracy is essential
• Required to participate in management presentations and training
• Commitment to quality customer service

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $90,674-$113,343, with the ability to progress to a maximum of $136,011. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
