Frequently asked questions, what exactly is live streaming.

Live streaming is when you show a video online in real time, without recording it beforehand. A live stream connects one person or brand to a large audience through a social media platform or a video service.

What are the benefits of live streaming?

Live streaming is a great way to connect with a large group of your followers at the same time. You can create inclusive content that reaches out to people in remote locations who are unlikely to attend a virtual event in person. If your streaming platform allows a chat for your audience to use, you can engage them in more conversation and get feedback immediately.

How do you go live?

To go live, the most important things you need are a camera and a strong internet connection. You can live stream directly from Prezi or you can connect your Prezi content to a media platform like Facebook or YouTube and live stream your content there.

Can you watch a live stream later?

If you want to let your audience watch your live stream later, make sure you record a version of the live stream and share it with your audience. One of the benefits of live streaming is the ability to connect with your community in real time, but if that’s not possible for some, recording and sharing a video file or link is the next best thing.

Online Presentations: 3 Ways to Present Live Online in PowerPoint!

Demand for online presentations, and the programs to deliver them, has increased exponentially, especially in the last couple of years . Whether for business or in educational settings, being able to present well online is crucial in 2023, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

Thanks to modern technologies, we can now present long distance . So you’re no longer tied to a meeting room and can reach a much wider audience through the internet. Theoretically, it’s possible to work from anywhere and present to anywhere, saving time and costs all round. We’ll outline three different ways to deliver your PowerPoint presentations online.

In today’s blog post we would like to introduce you to three variants of live streaming PowerPoint presentations.

Online Presentations: An absolute must in 2023

It’s not a completely new thing that events and (PowerPoint) presentations are being delivered via video link rather than in person, but the pandemic has hugely accelerated the trend. There are now many online presentation options on the market allowing you to share your presentation live and let your audience actively participate .

Thanks to modern technologies, it is possible to show presentations over long distances . This means you are no longer tied to a meeting room and can reach a wider audience via the Internet. In theory, there is the possibility to work from any place and thus save time and travel.

Nowadays you can broadcast your presentation (live) and let your audience actively participate in the presentation.

We’ll show you three ways to present online, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each. If you need help creating an online presentation, this blog post can help. Tips for delivering your online presentation can be found here .

Addressing data protection and security concerns

It is important to consider privacy and security issues to ensure the privacy of participants and the security of data . By paying attention to these aspects, the trust of the participants can be gained, and a successful and safe live presentation can be conducted.

Select only reputable providers that offer a secure connection and encryption . Find out about the provider’s privacy policy to ensure that no personal data of participants is stored.

Preparation of a PowerPoint presentation for online sharing

To ensure a smooth process when sharing your presentation, you should check your presentation in advance . If possible, view the shared presentation yourself and make sure that all elements are displayed correctly.

Check your notes or comments . Are they sufficient for the presentation or do you need to add more?

Tip: For jumping from slide to slide faster, you should include links or hyperlinks in your presentation in advance. This way, you can jump directly to the corresponding slide if there are any questions.

3 options on how to present your presentation live

Option 1: online presentation, option 1: share as a link.

Online Presentation

The first way to share your presentation with your audience is really simple: just send a link. This allows you to present to a wide and unlimited audience directly, easily and hassle-free . If you’re doing it this way, the more compact and concise you can make your presentation, the better, so as to minimize loading delays. Some features may need to be compromised, however.

  • Live stream your presentation by clicking the Share option in the File tab, and then clicking Show Online.
  • This opens a dialog box that displays the custom URL of your presentation.
  • Simply copy the link and email it to your audience.
  • When they receive the link, click Start Presentation and you can present to your audience in real time.
  • When you are done with the presentation, just click End Online Presentation .

Online Presentation, option 2: Office Mix

Online Presentation

You can use this method if you subscribe to Office 365 or use PowerPoint 2013 and download the free Office Mix add-in . This blog post explains how to download add-ins.

Office Mix is designed to facilitate interaction between different Microsoft Office programs, and offers many features and possibilities.

The advantage of this program is that Office Mix works fluidly with your slide content, allowing you to add audio files, videos, polls and quizzes to your slides and make them more interesting . This is especially useful in an educational environment to track the progress of students outside the classroom. It helps you, as a presenter, to maximize the motivation and engagement of your audience. These features can be found under the Mix tab and Quizzes and Video apps. Office Mix also offers a live feature that allows you to guide viewers through the slides in real time using videos, audio files, and illustrations . Office Mix also has its own website to help users navigate through the handy features and provides several tutorials to help new users get started. The program just requires an internet connection, and you then share your presentation online with your audience. A major advantage is that the audience can return to the slides after you’ve finished your online presentation and access them again .

Online Presentation, option 3: Upload to a platform

Online Presentation

SlideShare is a collection of websites where you can upload, share and archive your online presentation. You can also search and view online presentations yourself using the search box. Similarly, others can find your presentation using keywords. This sounds great, but the platform does not allow you to interact directly with your audience.

If you don’t want your presentation to be private, y ou can share it on all possible channels and gain a wide audience . Do keep in mind that people have to be able to understand your presentation even without your accompanying lecture. As your audience is unable to interact, there is no room for follow-up questions . When creating your online presentation, then, try to create appealing and comprehensive slides in order to keep the audience’s attention.

Click here to go to SlideShare.

PowerPoint for the web

Online Presentation

PowerPoint offers a free, pared-down, web version . This lets you create, upload and share your presentations directly. To use the service, you must have a Microsoft account. You can find more information about the platform in this post .

The big advantage of the web version is being able to present online presentations live . To access this, select whether the presentation is publicly accessible or only to be seen by a selected audience (e.g. employees or customers) under Screen Presentation . When you start the broadcast, a link and a QR code are generated that are unique to your online presentation. Participants can then scan the QR code or enter the link in their browser to join the online presentation.

Click here for PowerPoint for the web.

Group-chat software like Skype (for business), Zoom or Microsoft Teams

Online Presentation

Group-chat software was around long before the pandemic, but is now increasingly relevant. Such software allows you to interact with your audience, broadcast your presentation live, and respond directly to questions .

You can use all three programs for free after registration , then share your presentation with your audience using the Share Screen option. Note that Zoom has a screen sharing time limit in the free version; you can bypass this by upgrading to the paid version.

All three programs allow you to interact directly with your audience and, if you want, to see your audience through the camera option. The options for viewers to raise their hands to ask a question or write a comment in the chat, mean that you can respond directly to questions.

Click here for Skype, here for Zoom and here for Microsoft Teams.

Tip: Skillfully deliver your online lecture

You’ve created the perfect PowerPoint presentation to share? Great, now consider the next step: the online lecture.

This type of presentation differs in some respects from a presentation with an audience on site . You need to focus even more on keeping the attention of the audience . After all, ending your presentation is just a click away.

You will get many tips & tricks around the online lecture in the article on “Virtual Lectures”.

Conclusion: There are so many ways to present well online

Presenting your presentation live online has never been easier. Most of the options available are even free ! Do bear in mind, though, that on some of the platforms you can’t interact with the audience.

Have a look at the options and choose the one which suits you best .

3 Ways to Live Stream Your PowerPoint Presentation

September 25, 2017 / Blog, PowerPoint Tutorial live stream, powerpoint presentation, PowerPoint tip, powerpoint tutorial, Rick Enrico, SlideGenius

A person wearing ripped jeans sits on a couch, typing away on a laptop with a dark screen, perhaps finalizing a PowerPoint pitch deck, in a modern room with wooden flooring. Their hands are positioned on the keyboard, and part of their upper body and legs are visible in the frame.

Distance shouldn’t be a barrier between you and your audience. Bring your pitch out of the boardroom and into the Web. Reach out to a wider audience with your deck without sacrificing your presence.

Live-stream your PowerPoint in three ways:

1. Share as a Link

In his article on digital video hub Field59, Michael Worringer gives his readers a run-through on how to broadcast your presentation from PowerPoint 2010 and 2013 by sharing it as a link.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll be using PowerPoint 2013.

Unlike its 2010 version, whose Broadcast Slide Show option is found in the Slide Show tab, PowerPoint 2013 lets you live-stream your presentation through the Share option in the File tab.

How to live stream your PowerPoint: Present Online

After they’ve received the link, click Start Presentation . Now you’ll be able to guide your viewers through each slide in real time at your own pace.

How to live stream your PowerPoint: Start Presentation

Below, you’ll find how Presenter View will appear on your screen. However, your audience will only see your slide show as you present it.

How to live stream your PowerPoint: Presenter View

Once you’re done, exit the slide show mode and select End Online Presentation in the Present Online tab.

How to live stream your PowerPoint: End Online Presentatin

The slight downside to this broadcast method is that while you’re free to share your PowerPoint, some of your original deck’s features may be compromised. All transitions will be set to ‘fade’ from the audience’s view, and a file size may be imposed on your upload, depending on your broadcast service.

A compact and concise deck is more advisable for this PowerPoint live-stream technique to minimize the lag in your loading times.

2. Use Office Mix

If you’re using PowerPoint 2013 and are subscribed to Office 365, live streaming becomes even easier with the downloadable free add-in  Office Mix .

Unlike the previous method, Office Mix is more accommodating with your slide contents. You’re free to add audio, video, polls, and quizzes to your slides. This is especially helpful for educators who want to track their students’ progress outside the classroom and for presenters who want to maximize audience engagement using their deck.

These are all available in the Quizzes Video Apps found in the Mix tab that will appear once you’ve downloaded it.

How to live stream your PowerPoint: Quizzes Videos Apps

There’s also live digital inking , a more hands-on approach to presentation that lets you guide students through your slides in real time using video, audio, and illustration.

How to live stream your PowerPoint: Live Digital Inking

Office Mix has its own site dedicated to help users navigate through this handy feature. First-timers can benefit from its tutorials that show Mix at work.

Similar to the Broadcast Slide Show in PowerPoint 2010, Office Mix requires an Internet connection to share your presentation to a selected audience. However, another unique option of this add-in lets your audience review and play back your slides to their own pace even after you’ve exited your slide show.

True to its name, Mix crosses the boundaries between the Microsoft Office programs. Import viewers’ data and feedback on your deck for a more in-depth analysis.

3. Upload to Online Platforms

The third route to live-streaming your PowerPoint doesn’t let you interact with your audience as much, but it may be the easiest yet.

If you don’t have the last two PowerPoint features, you can upload and design your presentation using a private account to online platforms made for deck hosting, such as SlideShare.

Publishing your slides on online platforms is meant to improve reaching out to a wider audience. Although you can configure your uploaded deck’s settings to selected viewers, following default settings leaves your deck open for public viewing. You can add tags to make your PowerPoint easily searchable online, further reinforcing its inclination towards mass sharing.

At the same time, this technique can be considered a combination of the previous two PowerPoint live-streaming methods. It has a file size limitation like PowerPoint 2010, but it lets your audience enjoy your presentation at their pace, like Office Mix. Making use of online platforms requires compressing your slide contents into a file size that you can manually upload to the website.

Your deck is an important part of your presentation. Don’t let the distance between you and your audience deter you.

Broadcast your slide deck using three different methods, depending on the type of program available to you and on your intended audience. Share your PowerPoint with a link and broadcast it live with PowerPoint 2010 and 2013. Interact with your viewers in real time with Office Mix. However, if neither of these are available to you, you can always upload your presentation to an online platform like SlideShare.

There are a number of ways to make your presentation accessible. Just reach out to the one that works best for you.

How to Use Apple Keynote Live to Stream Presentations on the Web

Andrew Childress

Not everyone can always get together in the same room for a presentation. As businesses and work teams are more far-flung and working remotely, finding ways to collaborate is more important than ever!

That's why you'll want to use a feature like  Apple Keynote Live  to stream presentations to your audience. You don't have to use a separate meeting software to take a presentation and share it with your audience online. This feature spans both the desktop and mobile versions of Keynote as you'll see in this tutorial.

Apple Keynote Live to Stream Presentations

In this tutorial, I'm going to walk you through using Keynote Live to stream your presentations. You might be surprised how easy it is to take a Keynote presentation and broadcast it to collaborators.

Guide to Making Great Presentations ( Free eBook Download )

If you want to learn even more about making presentations be sure to grab our free eBook:  The Complete Guide to Making Great Presentations . I t'll help you master the presentation process, from: initial idea, through to writing, design, and delivering with impact.

free Ebook on presentations

Now let's dive into this tutorial, to learn all about how to use Apple Keynote Live.

What Is Apple Keynote Live?

Amongst the Apple Keynote users that I know, it feels like Keynote Live is one of the lesser-known features that should be more popular. We've all been in a position to share a presentation with an audience, and using Keynote Live offers that functionality online.

Often, that means saving the presentation, sending it to an audience, and adding your notes to an email so that they'll follow the presentation. But with Keynote Live, there's a better way. Press play, share the URL, and everyone can follow along in real-time.

In short, Keynote Live allows you to stream your Keynote presentations to an audience. Using this feature turns your presentation into an online experience that anyone can jump into. Let's walk through using Keynote Live to share a presentation online.

Watch & Learn

Screencasts are one of the best ways to pick up a new skill. Check out the video below for an "over-the-shoulder" view of how you can use Apple Keynote Live to stream your presentations in real-time.

live stream presentation online

Still want to learn more? Keep reading the rest of the tutorial to see the complete guide to using Keynote Live for sharing presentations.

How to Use Apple Keynote Live

To get started with Keynote Live, you'll first need to save the presentation to your iCloud account. I always launch Keynote Live by clicking on the corresponding Keynote Live button on the menu at the top of the application.

After you click on Keynote Live , you'll see a pop-up window that reminds you that you'll need to move the presentation to iCloud for streaming. As you may already know, iCloud is Apple's cloud storage service for storing files and media so that you can access them from anywhere.

Learn more about the service with iMore's guide that explains iCloud , but the critical bit of knowledge for this tutorial is that you move your presentation to iCloud to use Keynote Live.

Move to iCloud in Keynote

Now, you'll see a brief pop-up that explains the benefits of using Keynote Live. Just click on  Continue to move to the next step.

Welcome to Keynote Live

Believe it or not, that's it! You'll see a pop-up window that shows that your slideshow is ready to share as you can see in the screenshot below:

Your Slideshow is Ready

How to Share the Presentation With Viewers

Now that you've walked through the setup for sharing a Keynote presentation with your audience, it's time to invite viewers in to view the presentation.

As you can see in when you click on the More Options  menu in the screenshot above, one option is to share a URL that you can share easily. It's easy to take this Apple Keynote Live stream link and drop it into an email or meeting invite with collaborators.

The advantage of sending this URL is that anyone can view it. Even if the recipient is on a Windows PC with access only to a web browser, they can still view your Keynote Live presentation.

If you decide to directly share Apple Keynote link, I highly recommend using the  Require Password  option. Using a URL to share with viewers is convenient and makes it easy to connect, but you might not want that URL to make its way to the masses. In that case, it helps to add a password that adds a layer of authentication as you can see in the screenshot below.

Require Password for Keynote Live

For viewers that might be using iOS devices, using the  Invite Viewers  button is a great option. For example, using  Messages  to send the presentation link will help users on an iPad or iPhone jump straight into the presentation from their device.

Share Invite Viewers from Keynote Live

How to Start Your Keynote Live Presentation

Now that you've connected with your audience and sent the link, it's time to start the presentation! Within Keynote, you'll see an icon that shows how many people are in the "waiting room," ready for the presentation to begin.

Click on the play button and choose  Play on Keynote Live  to start broadcasting your presentation. You'll go into the standard presentation view with all of the typical aids for presenting.

Play on Keynote Live option

After you start the presentation, you'll see the familiar interface for sharing your Keynote slides. In the upper right corner, you'll also see the number of viewers that have currently joined your presentation.

Presenter View in Keynote Live

That's it! Proceed with your presentation, and the audience will see all of the animations, content, and data that you've built into your slides.

If you want to share audio or voice over the slides, you might need to consider a separate setup for that. Either set up a call-in number or conference call or pre-record the audio that you want to play with  this guide from Apple.

Consider turning on Keynote Live any time that you're in a conference room with no big screen display to share the slides. I've personally used this feature in that exact situation, and it saved everyone from crowding around a screen or printing paper copies beforehand. Instead, everyone jumped into the slides on their own devices.

Keynote Live on iOS Devices

One of the options for viewing a Keynote presentation is using the Keynote app for iOS devices. In this section of the tutorial, let's take a brief look at how Apple Keynote Live works for those viewers.

The good news is that the experience for iOS viewers is almost identical to the desktop version. As you can see in the image below, the presentation that shows on an iPad more or less mirrors the exact version built on Keynote for Mac. It's that continuity that makes Apple Keynote Live an ideal choice to share a presentation.

Keynote Live on iPad

Finally, one of my favorite ways to share Apple Keynote Live presentations online is with viewers who only have a web browser to jump in. Sharing a URL from the More Options menu helps ensure that no one is left out for viewing the presentation, no matter what platform they prefer to work on.

Recap & Keep Learning

In this tutorial, you learned how to showcase your Apple Keynote presentations online. This feature can bring together an audience with no extra apps or setup required. It's that type of flexibility that keeps me turning to Keynote as my go-to presentation software.

Organizations can live stream events for numerous benefits. You can live stream an event to increase brand awareness, create a sense of community, or provide a paid experience for an exclusive audience. Live streaming provides your organization with another means of generating revenue.

Live streaming an event online can help you continue to connect with your audience even when they can’t be there in person. Lockdowns related to COVID-19 proved the value of live streaming technology, with about 41% of artists going live more than once a month as of March 2021.

Since it offers the option of enjoying live events even from within the comfort of the home, the demand for live event streaming doesn’t appear to be going down.

Live-streaming events can strengthen your connection with your audience, whether you’re a business, an influencer, a gamer, or a content creator. It offers a great way to take your brand to the next level.

  • Expand your reach: Connect with audience members interested in your private event but can’t attend it live. You have the potential to connect with way more people virtually than could ever attend your private event in person. The live streaming of events is a great way to expand your reach to the masses.
  • Increase participation: Not everyone who wants to attend your event in person will be able to due to health reasons, time constraints, and financial concerns. With a live stream, many of those barriers disappear, allowing you to increase participation in your private events. The connectivity enhances even more if you place a Q&A or interactive session within your stream.
  • Learn about your audience: When you live stream your event with a professional video hosting service that provides analytics, you can learn about your audience’s location and how they engage with your content in real time. That can allow you to create more customized events in the future with live event streaming analytics.
  • Motivate your in-person audience: If you have ever seen the crowd camera at a sports event, you know how people love to be on camera. When you live stream your private event, you give your in-person audience a chance to be on camera. Use your live stream to get more in-person audience engagement.
  • Include your virtual audience: Create engagement with your virtual audience. Ask them to tweet or respond to questions during the event to create more engagement.
  • Share the moment: Event live streaming is a great way to share special moments with viewers worldwide. Don’t limit who can attend a graduation ceremony, product launch, or other events by keeping them in-person only; make all special moments virtually accessible.

Live streaming allows you to expand your reach, increase participation in your event both in-person and online, learn about your audience, and share special moments with a bigger audience.

How to Live Stream an Event – A Step-by-Step Guide

live stream presentation online

Choosing a professional streaming solution makes broadcasting live events easy for professionals.

Live streaming an event may appear tricky if you’re new to the field. However, it’s pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. The main thing is to invest in the right gear and create a solid plan; the rest comes easily.

Wondering about the best way to livestream an event? We got you covered! Let’s take a look at the main steps you can follow to stream events live like a pro.

Since  live streaming  requires several moving parts, it’s a good idea to identify your goals and intentions from the start.

Answer the following questions:

  • What sort of event will you livestream?
  • What is the purpose of live-streaming that event?
  • What do you hope to achieve?
  • What is your intended return on investment?
  • Will you monetize the event?
  • What’s your budget?

You need to know what you are live streaming, who you’re streaming it to, and your overall goal for the next event. That’ll help you move on to the next step, creating a plan for your next event too.

Now that you know what event you will be streaming, its purpose, intended audience, budget, and desired outcomes, you can create a detailed plan for the streaming event itself.

  • Where will it be held?
  • What is the agenda for the event?
  • Who will be speaking? What is the form of entertainment?
  • What type of sound system will you use?
  • Who will you invite to the in-person event?
  • How will you communicate and share the event with your virtual audience?

Planning lays out how your entire live event will go online. So, devise a foolproof plan aligned with your private event planners’ goals and resources.

A streaming solution is a platform that hosts your live stream. When considering how to livestream an event, you’ll need to choose a  streaming solution  capable of bringing your vision to life.

Many professional-grade live streaming platforms are equipped with HTML5 video players that are white-labeled and can easily be embedded on your own website, app, and social platforms.

When using one of the professional  video streaming platforms , you and your viewers have access to specialized servers and sufficient bandwidth, among many other features, to ensure successful broadcasts. A professional broadcasting platform can typically handle large volumes of viewers, thereby allowing you to  live-stream events  remotely to reach a larger audience.

Choose a full-streaming event solution that uses a  global content delivery network  with incredible streaming quality. That way, your  virtual streaming event  can accommodate large volumes of viewers in  remote locations

In short, the better the service you select–in terms of features, support, and cost–the better the broadcasting experience for you and the better the viewing experience will be for your audience.

We recommend comparing several  streaming solutions  and taking advantage of free trials before deciding on the right plan. Dacast, for example, offers a feature-rich free trial to give you a chance to test out our service for yourself when comparing it against  broadcasting alternatives

There are a few main features to consider when comparing  live-streaming services

If you plan to generate revenue from your streams, you’ll want to ensure your streaming video platform offers monetization opportunities. Professional platforms (including Dacast, IBM Cloud Video, and Livestream) offer features such as subscriptions , and advertisements. Dacast’s security, for example, is integrated into the live-streaming platform.

  • Ad-free streaming experience:  Another benefit of  professional streaming platforms  is the absence of unapproved ads. With free broadcasting services like YouTube, your viewers experience a constant stream of unwanted and untimely advertisements.
  • Addition of watermark:  With a  white-label video player , you can create and embed your watermark or logo onto your original content.

A professional online video platform will provide you with the live online event broadcasting environment you need for a professional Facebook live show setup and experience.

4. Set Up Broadcasting Equipment

live streaming equipment

Using a professional-grade camera will yield a high-quality live event stream.

Setting up broadcasting equipment for live streaming events is essential for professional and engaging streams. Using the right equipment, such as high-quality cameras and recording equipment , microphones, and lighting can significantly enhance the viewer experience.

For those asking “How do you livestream an event” or “What is the best way to live stream an event”, the best way to livestream an event requires selecting gear that provides clear visuals and crisp audio. Furthermore, proper lighting eliminates shadows and highlights key details. This makes streaming live events more visually appealing. Investing in the right setup is critical for successful live event streaming, ensuring your broadcasts are memorable and effective.

If it’s within your budget, we strongly recommend investing in a fully-featured  live-streaming camera  to ensure a professional-grade streaming experience. A super  high-quality camera  will do wonders for your broadcast. Moreover, it’ll improve the quality of both the audio and  visual aspects , which will help to attract and retain new viewers.

We recommend  three streaming  cameras based on Engadget reviews:

  • Canon EOS Rebel T7/2000D ($398)

live stream presentation online

  • Panasonic HC-V785K ($462.99)

live stream presentation online

  • Sony PXW-Z150 4K Professional Camcorder ($2,999.99)

live stream presentation online

Engadget  features regular reviews of new technology, including cameras, so we recommend heading over there to compare your options.  B&H Photo Video  is another helpful site for technology comparisons and purchases.

We want to point out that smaller-scale streams may be able to make do with lower-cost webcams and capture devices. Live streaming a lecture or small conference-style event may not require a hefty investment in professional equipment. It’s up to you to determine what streaming quality you need to suit your audience best and deliver your message.

That said, if you want to live stream private events to your friends and family online, you could simply use your smartphone and go live on social media platforms like Instagram or Facebook.

When live streaming with a camera, you often need a capture card to convert the video into streamable content. You can purchase a capture card and install it on your computer. Once installed, you can plug the camera into the capture card to get ready to stream live events.

For those who are recording live events through your laptop’s webcam and not using a camera, you will most likely not need to purchase a capture card. That’s true for most “webcam” methods, as they’re already stream-friendly.

Not sure if your webcam is compatible? Open Skype on the computer with which you plan to stream. If the video feature shows up, your computer/webcam does not require a capture card.

It is also a good idea to invest in an external microphone to improve the stream’s audio quality. As for microphones, there are a few different ways you can go. We recommend checking out the list of best professional microphones by The Tech Lounge. Make sure the microphone supports background noise cancellation if you intend to livestream your private event outdoors. It can help you eliminate ambient noise.

Also, get a microphone arm that supports your audio source. If you’re using a collar mic or a clip-on mic, there would be no need for a microphone arm.

Now that your technical gear is sorted, it’s time for another critical aspect: lighting. Well-lit surroundings can enhance your streaming quality and attract more viewers. People quickly lose interest in a video where they can’t see the subject clearly; hence, perfecting your lighting is critical for retaining viewers.

Fortunately, there are many ways you can do that. For beginners, we suggest using sunlight or a ring light. You can’t get a lighting source better than sunlight, and that too for free. So, if you can go live for your private event during the day, opt for it. Experiment with different angles, the direction of the light source, the right time, and the placement of shadows to get that perfect lighting setup.

Ring light offers an excellent, budget-friendly way to perk up the lighting for your streaming events. The circular shape helps remove the shadow from your face. Another piece of lighting equipment is a three-point light kit. However, it’s expensive and better suited for a professional setup. If you’re a beginner-level streamer, you can cover all bases with sunlight or ring light.

5. Connect Your Encoder

live stream presentation online

Encoding, which is compressing video files so that they are not saved as individual images but as fluid video, is essential to high-quality streaming.

Whether using an  external camera or a webcam ; you’ll need to use a  video encoder  to convert RAW video files to streamable digital video files. You can use either  hardware or software encoder . There are several options available for either type.

If you’re new to live-streaming, we recommend  OBS Studio . It is a free, open-source  software encoder  that is relatively easy to navigate. More advanced alternatives typically cost between $500 and $1000. Some hardware encoders range beyond $3000.

Choosing an  encoder  compatible with your chosen online video platform is essential so you don’t run into any issues when configuring your settings. If your online video platform uses  RTMP ingest , pretty much any  RTMP encoder  will do the trick.

How you configure your encoder will affect the quality of your live stream. Please check out our  encoder setup guide  for more information on how to successfully connect and configure your encoder.

If you’re streaming on Dacast, you must use the following  live encoder configurations  if you want your stream to work properly.

VIDEO CODEC H.264 (x264 may work)

FRAME RATE 25 or 30

KEYFRAME INTERVAL 2 secs (or 2x frame rate)

SCANNING Progressive

RATE CONTROL Constant (CBR)

AUDIO CODEC AAC-LC

AUDIO BITRATE 128 kbps

AUDIO CHANNELS 2 (Stereo)

AUDIO SAMPLE RATE 48 kHz (48,000 Hz)

Once you’ve got your encoder set, it’s time to input your source. Source inputs are different for every encoder and online video platform, but this is important for every stream

At this stage, you must connect your camera, microphone, and other sources to your  encoder or switcher  to incorporate them into the stream.

Please check out our dedicated  guide to multiple source input

Next, it’s time to  create a live channel  on your online video platform. Each platform’s process is a little different, but it’s easy on Dacast.

If you’re streaming with Dacast, you can use the following steps to create a live channel:

  • Log into your  Dacast dashboard.
  • Click the purple “ Add + ” button on the menu on the left-hand side.
  • Select “ Live Stream. ”
  • Give your live stream a  name , indicate the  source region , and select the  number of renditions  you’d like to create.
  • You’ll be directed to another page where you should fill out the fields as prompted.
  • Save  your changes.

It just takes six simple steps to learn how to stream a live private event with Dacast.

live stream presentation online

With a professional video solution like Dacast, embedding your video player only takes a quick copy-paste.

Fortunately,  embedding video  is quite simple when streaming via a professional service like Dacast. Simply copy the  embed code  on the live broadcast channel you created and paste the code into the code of your website. That’ll allow you to share your live event stream wherever you want.

Broadcasters can choose between two embed codes:  JS  and  iframe . Both work for  playback on your website  or app via desktop and mobile devices as long as the content supports it.

The JS embed code is the default embed code for Dacast and supports most features. That includes being responsive if the elements are designed inside a different size and working with the referrer restriction feature.

The iframe embed code is the most universally compatible. The caveat is that some features do not work with it. This embed code is not responsive, which means it’s a fixed size. The  full-screen feature  is also sometimes removed. However, it usually happens only if you’re using iframes within iframes.

If you want full access for your audience while streaming video content from your event, use a professional video hosting service that supports JS embed codes.

Once you have everything set up to  live-stream an event , it’s time to conduct a test run. Test runs are crucial because once you’re live, you have an audience. So it is difficult to troubleshoot and fix mistakes quickly. The best way to learn how to livestream an event is to practice before the big day.

It is also a good idea to test your streaming setup so that you can identify any weak links. By doing so, you know where you need backup options on hand. With a private live-stream event, you want to have solid backup options in place.

It would be best if we watch you run through your entire stream. Presenters can use this opportunity to practice their parts. This trial run should take place at the same time of the day you plan to broadcast your first Facebook l ive-streaming event so that you have a good idea of what the lighting will be like.

We also recommend testing your  internet speed  to ensure it is sufficient. The upload speed should be about double what you need for your stream. A solid enough internet connection speed and internet connection itself is vital for a successful live-streamed event.

Now that you have put all this work into planning and preparing for your live event; you need to make sure people show up! Prepare a plan to promote your private event.

There are many different platforms and ways you can promote your event.

  • Utilize your email list: If your company has a developed email list, put it to use! Send out an invitation to your live event, upload teasers to generate more interest, and send out a reminder email before you go live!
  • Add it to the newsletter: If you send a weekly or monthly newsletter, have a section where you promote and share information about upcoming live private events.
  • Share it on social media: Social media is one of the best ways to catch people’s attention in the moment. Announce your event on your social media platforms, share teaser clips about your event, and run a countdown to the event’s start. Draw people into your event from your social media accounts.
  • Create an invite: Create a formal invite where people can RSVP to your private event. Then, send out reminders to everyone who RSVPed to your event before going live.
  • Make teasers : Create short video teasers or trailers for your event. People love visual content, and teasers are a great way to drum up interest in your event.
  • Send a press release: Hosting a massive event? Send a press release to the local paper and to industry websites and news outlets that could be interested in your event.
  • Advertise : You can also run paid advertisements to increase interest in your event. Be sure to narrow down your target audience before running advertisements. That way, you can reach your target audience without wasting your resources.

You must invest in the promotion if you want people to show up to your live stream events. Use a countdown timer, so people can join the private event before it goes live. A countdown timer generates interest and allows your audience to gather, so everyone is ready when the event goes live!

It’s time to switch your live channel to “Online” and click “Start Streaming.” With that click, you are live. As you present, staying confident and having fun with the stream is vital.

Encourage viewers to participate if you have a chat or Q&A plugin, to keep everybody engaged throughout the event. Having some interactive elements within your live stream can boost the watch time by 50-70%. Live-stream private events are more entertaining when your audience feels engaged in what is happening.

The primary purpose of streaming events is to connect with the audience, increase brand recognition, and make them take action. Buying anything and becoming a customer, subscribing to your channel, following your social media, or signing up for your newsletter. Your livestream should end up with people inclined to take an action you want them to take.

In 2020 live streaming brought $6 Billion  in sales in the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival . In 2022, Mitsubishi used  Amazon live to reveal the new Mitsubishi Outlander . The event got double the targeted views, and their test drives were booked for an entire month. That shows how much impact live streaming events can have on your business.

Place a clear call-to-action that pushes viewers to take the desired action to achieve your intended goal.

A great way to strengthen your relationship with your audience is to provide something to fall back on if they miss a live event. Many of your audience members can miss the live video stream for various reasons. When they can watch a live video replay, it automatically makes them feel you care about your audience.

Moreover, you also can generate views even after the streaming of your YouTube liv e show has ended. Use the LinkedIn live streaming platform to save and download your YouTube live video. You can share it across social media or publish it on your website.

Some events, like webinars, conferences, and private streams, call for participation from the audience.  Peer-to-peer  video conferencing, which is the technical way to describe a  video chat , is a valuable technology that allows viewers to participate in  virtual live-streaming events

Using Zoom to livestream an event offers many benefits. It’s a top choice for virtual events. In 2024, Zoom introduced several updates which enhance its appeal.

First, video quality has seen significant improvements, with 4K streaming now available. This ensures crisp and clear visuals for all attendees. This upgrade means a more professional presentation, crucial for maintaining audience engagement.

Also, Zoom’s advanced features cater to diverse event requirements. For example, enhanced interactive tools such as real-time polls and Q&A sessions foster greater audience participation. The platform remains reliable and user-friendly with an easy-to-use interface, offering a seamless experience for hosts and participants. This reduces technical hiccups that can disrupt the flow of a virtual event.

Additionally, Zoom’s integration capabilities with other platforms help streamline event management. It allows for smoother scheduling, registration, and follow-ups. Whether it’s hosting a conference, webinar, or workshop, Zoom’s latest features make it a great tool for delivering high-quality, engaging virtual events.

Zoom is among the most popular peer-to-peer audio conferencing tools. But on its own, it’s not as capable as the advanced streaming professional  online video platforms . However, some of these online video platforms, including Dacast, can be integrated with Zoom to give broadcasters access to the best of both tools.

Please note that this tutorial requires you to have a Zoom Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise account to access the livestream section.

Open Zoom and go to the “ Live Stream ” section on the left-side vertical menu.

Click “ Create Live Stream ” on the right side of your screen. Enter a  stream name , then select the  type of stream . Click “ Create ”:

In simple terms, a live-streaming event is one that is shared with viewers over the internet in real time . You can start shooting the video of the event and stream it as you shoot so that your viewers can watch it as it unfolds. Live streaming of events is possible through dedicated live-streaming platforms or social media channels like Instagram and Facebook.

2. How do I attend a live stream event?

To attend a live stream event, all you have to do is get the URL of the live stream and enter it into your browser. Alternatively, if the event is being live streamed over social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram, you’ll likely have to head to the profile that’s hosting the live stream of the event to tune into the event.

The cost for live streaming an event varies depending on the type of stream you want to launch. If you want to host a live stream on social media channels, you can get started for free as you only need a smartphone and internet connection to go live.

However, if you want to monetize the stream and want to have multiple video and audio sources, you would have to opt for a professional platform and invest in more equipment, which could go into a few thousand dollars.

The best free live streaming options for an event would be social media platforms as you can get started with your streams without having to invest in a dedicated software solution. Some platforms that allow you to go live (even privately) include YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

To stream a private event live, you’d have to opt for a social media platform that enables you to close off your live stream to the public. Some platforms like Instagram and Facebook allow you to do this. Alternatively, you can use a dedicated live streaming platform and turn your private stream into a gated one so only those with access can view it.

Live streaming events have become indispensable for businesses who want to expand their reach and engage with a global audience. The ability to stream live events provides real-time interaction which enhances customer engagement and brand loyalty. However, choosing the right professional video hosting platform is crucial to ensuring a successful broadcast. When considering how to host a live stream and events, businesses must evaluate platforms based on ease of use, reliability, compatibility, audience reach, and more.

Understanding how to broadcast a live stream effectively involves selecting tools that offer high-quality video, robust security features, and comprehensive analytics. Whatever you’re exploring how to stream live events for, the right platform can make all the difference. In today’s digital age, knowing how to stream an event live is a great advantage, enabling businesses to connect with audiences in meaningful, impactful ways.

Here’s an AP college football story:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — All the talk is over in the Big 12. The preseason hype has hit and settled.

Now it’s time for the new-look conference, where longtime members Oklahoma and Texas have been replaced by Arizona State, Arizona, Utah and Colorado in the latest round of college football musical chairs, to prove its worth on the field.

The newcomers don’t exactly have it easy out of the gate.

Start with the Sun Devils , who open Saturday with perennially bowl-bound Wyoming, which won nine games a year ago. The Cowboys’ season ended with a win over Toledo in the Arizona Bowl, which the No. 21 Wildcats call home .

Arizona, meanwhile, gets a softer opening against New Mexico, then plays Northern Arizona the following week. But things get rough in a hurry with a trip to No. 18 Kansas State for a nonconference matchup against a new conference rival.

No. 12 Utah opens against Southern Utah before it, like Arizona, gets a nonconference game against a Big 12 foe. In the Utes’ case, it’s Baylor, which is trying to bounce back from a three-win season but won 12 games just a few years ago.

Then there is Colorado , which might attract the most attention of any newcomer not just because of their play — the Buffaloes won four games in their last season in the Pac-12 — but because of their high-profile coach. Deion Sanders is confident that they will be vastly improved this season, and they have a chance to prove it right away against North Dakota State.

The Bison may play at the Football Championship Subdivision level, but they’ve won fewer than 11 games only once in the past 12 years. During that stretch, they’ve beaten Big 12 schools Kansas State and Iowa State along with No. 13 Iowa of the Big Ten.

“They’re good. They’re really darned good,” Sanders said recently, “and I’m mad at (athletic director) Rick (George) right now for putting them on the schedule, to open up with them. Like, can you give me a layup or something? Those guys are wonderful.”

The Bison played in five of the previous six FCS title games before losing in the semifinals last season.

“Their staff has always been amongst the best. Many people have matriculated from that staff to go to higher levels. Those kids play their butts off. They play tough. They don’t make many mistakes. They’re accustomed to winning,” Sanders said. “They don’t give a darned about being at home or on the road. That doesn’t faze them whatsoever.”

The quartet of newcomers — though Colorado is in fact returning the league after 13 years in the Pac 12 — aren’t the only ones who face a challenge right away. TCU hits the road to face Stanford , which is now a member of the ACC, while West Virginia has perhaps the toughest task when it welcomes No. 8 Penn State to town Saturday night.

“I think the Penn State game is huge for us,” said Mountaineers coach Neal Brown, whose job was starting to come into question before they won nine games last season. “That’s a regional rivalry, which I know that you’re very entrenched in traditions. It’s not a rivalry that’s gone West Virginia’s way very often. So that’s a great opportunity for us.”

It’s also a great opportunity for the Big 12 to beat one of the best programs in the expanded Big Ten.

“You’re correct,” Brown said, “it’s a big game for our league, and this new Big 12, without a couple schools that have been part of the Big 12 for a long time in that first weekend on a marquee stage, to show what kind of football we play in this league.”

There will be other chances for marquee nonconference wins, of course. Take next week: Iowa State plays No. 25 Iowa, No. 22 Kansas heads to Illinois and Colorado visits Nebraska in games against Big Ten foes; Arkansas visits No. 17 Oklahoma State and Mississippi State visits Arizona State in Big 12-SEC showdowns; and Cincinnati plays ACC rival Pittsburgh.

Yet there is something meaningful about winning in Week 1, both for West Virginia and the Big 12 as a conference.

“Whether it’s West Virginia or any other program in the Big 12 gets those kind of marquee wins, our brand will continue to grow,” Brown said, “and we’ve got to make some noise in the playoff. I think Commissioner (Brett) Yormark spoke about this: We’re the most competitive league. I would say we’re the deepest football league in the entire country. But we’ve got to go. TCU had a nice run (in 2022), but we’ve got to have more wins in the playoff once we get in.”

North Carolina vs. Minnesota live stream, where to watch, TV channel, odds, spread, prediction, pick

The tar heels are traveling to play the gophers in a thursday night showdown.

NCAA Football: Minnesota at North Carolina

A year after falling 31-13 at North Carolina , Minnesota gets a chance at redemption when the Gophers host UNC in Thursday night's only game between power-conference teams. The Tar Heels enter as a slight favorite in a battle between teams that bring some unknowns at quarterback into the 2024 season.

UNC has benefitted from two NFL Draft pick quarterbacks in the first five seasons of coach Mack Brown's second stint at the school. But with Drake Maye gone to the New England Patriots, the Tar Heels must find his replacement. Brown has been noncommittal thus far about who is leading a race between  Texas A&M transfer Max Johnson and sophomore Conner Harrell .

Minnesota knows who its quarterback will be --  New Hampshire transfer Max Brosmer  -- but it doesn't know for sure how his game will translate to the FBS level. Brosmer was prolific in his five seasons of FCS football but faces a big task in recharging a Gophers offense that finished No. 122 nationally in total offense last season.

While the quarterbacks will be new, a pair of star running backs are returning to anchor each squad. Read on below for more analysis and a prediction on North Carolina vs. Minnesota, whose start time has been pushed back due to a weather delay.

How to watch North Carolina vs. Minnesota live

Date : Thursday, Aug. 29 |  Time : 9 p.m. ET Location : Huntington Bank Stadium -- Minneapolis TV:  Fox |  Live stream:  fubo  (Try for free)

North Carolina vs. Minnesota: Need to know

Backfield stars: The return of Minnesota running back Darius Taylor will be a significant help for the Gophers after he amassed 799 yards in just six games last season while fighting injuries. Just a sophomore, Taylor is primed for a prolific season after ranking as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2023. UNC counters with an elite back of its own in Omarion Hampton for what should be a compelling battle between a couple of the nation's best runners. Hampton is the country's No. 3 returning rusher after amassing 1,504 yards on the ground last season. He's also a reliable dump-off target in the passing game.

Breaking in new coordinators: Both teams are breaking in new defensive coordinators as Corey Hetherman steps in at Minnesota and Geoff Collins takes over at North Carolina. Collins, the former Georgia Tech  coach, was away from the sidelines last season. He replaces Gene Chizik, who struggled to unlock the unit's talent over the last two seasons. Hetherman arrives from Rutgers , where he served as linebackers coach for the last two seasons. He helped Scarlet Knights develop a reputation for sound defense during that time.

Last time out: When UNC last year's meeting, it did so behind 414 yards passing from Maye, who hit Nate McCollum 15 times for 165 yards. Hampton averaged just 3.5 yards per carry, finishing with 46 yards on 13 attempts. This time around, the Tar Heels will likely need more from their run game as they break in a new quarterback. Minnesota will definitely need more from its passing game as Gophers quarterbacks completed just 11 of 30 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in last year's meeting.

North Carolina vs. Minnesota prediction, pick

Last year, North Carolina had a future first-round NFL Draft pick at quarterback and both teams already had two games under their belt. They still only combined to score 44 points. Now, both teams are breaking in new quarterbacks -- the Tar Heels haven't even named a starter yet -- and will likely rely on their run games as they get their feet underneath them in a new season. Points should be at a premium.  Pick: Under 50.5
