I am pleased and at the same time humbled to be trusted by parents to represent you all as Parent Governor from September 2021.

I am committed to the school Vision and Ethos and to improving education for our children. I have confidence that we are moving in the right direction and will use all my experience over the years to support the development and growth of the school as Parent Governor.

I will work to highlight to the Board of Governors how the decisions made will impact the school from a parent’s perspective.

I expect to create more linkages with the PTA and build on what has been achieved during my tenure as PTA president. I will therefore work towards fostering even better and more successful events through linkages with the Board of Governors and the PTA Executive Team.

I will keep a live communication channel which will enable me to positively work to bring a parental perspective to the issues discussed at the board. Please feel free to contact me anytime on my email [email protected] .

I wish all parents, pupils and the school body an excellent academic year 2021/2022.

Mrs E. Kansere Parent Governor

Show My Homework

Show My Homework/Satchel ONE (SMHW) is a powerful tool that is used by teachers and students at The Kimberley School to allow homework to be clearly communicated and monitored. Students are expected to check SMHW regularly as this is the only tool used for recording homework. Staff are able to upload resources and links to supplement student learning whilst students have the facility to message their teachers if they require support.

During the pandemic, the platform has become useful in supporting students that have been accessing the remote curriculum. If you are absent from school, but are still able to work from home, please make sure you monitor SMHW where your teacher will clarify what work you need to complete in order to make sure you do not fall behind, during the period of absence.

In order to login, please use the login details you were given by your tutor at the start of the year. If for whatever reason you no longer have these details, please request these details from your tutor, or email the ICT at [email protected] using your school email address.

Mrs A. Bolts set this assignment for group 10/En2 - English Literature

Task description

1. ‘What’s in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other word would smell as sweet.’ Juliet thinks that Romeo’s name should not matter. Who he is and how she feels about him are most important. Do you think this is true? Can love overcome family feuds?

2. Write a paragraph answering the question “What makes ‘Romeo and Juliet’ a tragedy?” Prologues are similar to trailers for movies. What makes a successful trailer? Explain your reasons. Write your own version of a prologue for Romeo and Juliet but set it in your local area. Who would the feud be between?

3. Mercutio’s dying words are, ‘A plague o' both your houses!’ Using your knowledge of the play’s tragic structure, how are his words fulfilled? Write one paragraph.

While we did most of our communication with pupils via Microsoft Teams we found that posting on Satchel One was key in keeping parents informed.

We also liked the parental side of Satchel which is better for younger pupils who require more supervision with homeschooling. Teams has the feature to do 'live lessons' and meetings which Satchel does not so this was important for us.

I set remote learning on Satchel One as daily classwork for their timetabled lesson if it is not a Live Lesson and then put a follow up post after a Live Lesson on Teams. All work that students submit is done through Satchel One.

What a great job you have done integrating with Teams. I especially like the way marks and feedback is now synchronised with Satchel One. I tried it out this morning and it all worked fantastically. This is going to make things so much easier for teachers and streamline how we work.

Integrate with Office 365, Google Apps, RM Unify or Active Directory for a unified login experience.

Single Sign-On authentication enables your students and staff to get logged into Satchel using the login credentials that they are already accustomed to. Logging in using a Single Sign-On method eliminates the need for maintaining and distributing a new set of login details, making our platform easier to implement.

You can enable, disable, and amend your SSO settings by going to Admin > Settings > Single Sign-On.

We integrate with:

Active Directory (LDAP)

Office 365 (microsoft).

To integrate with Active Directory, we need to be able to connect to your server, and identify users based on either: email address or MIS ID .

Set up a bind user for Satchel with read-only access to the relevant OUs

Authorise our IP address to connect to the Active Directory server: 52.18.135.12

Go Admin > Settings > Single Sign-On.

Enable Active Directory

Select which user type (Students, Staff) will be using this login method.

Enter the following details:

IP address of your AD server

Port (e.g. 636). Enable SSL if using this protocol.

The details of the bind user you created in step 1.

LDAP base e.g. ou=teachers,dc=school,dc=com|ou=students,dc=school,dc=com

AD attribute used for usernames, typically sAMAccountName

AD attribute used for emails, typically mail - OR - AD attribute used to store MIS IDs, e.g. customfield01

If you decide to map users with their email , please ensure the emails addresses are up-to-date on both your Active Directory server and our platform. Related article: Update emails .

If you prefer to map users with their MIS ID , Satchel One will already have these imported from your MIS. You can then create a new, custom attribute in AD or repurpose an existing field that you are not currently using. You will also need to ensure that the MIS IDs are populated, manually or via an automated process, for new users that join the school.

Once your settings have been updated, users will be able to login using their school username and password.

In order for users to log in with Google Single Sign-On, we simply need to ensure that we have their correct Google email address on file.

Enable Google

Update emails to ensure none are missing or incorrect.

Once the emails have been updated, you will just need to select the Sign in with Google option on our login page. If you are already signed in to your Google account, you will be taken straight through to your Satchel account. Otherwise, you will be prompted to enter your Google email and password first.

In order for users to log in with Office 365, we simply need to ensure that we have their correct Office 365 email address on file.

Enable Office 365

Once the emails have been updated, you will just need to press the Sign in with Office 365 button on our login page. If you are already signed in to your Office365 account, you will be taken straight through to your Satchel account. Otherwise, you will be prompted to enter your O365 email and password first.

Install the Satchel One RM Unify app in order to access our website from your RM launchpad. Alternatively, you can use the RM Unify button on our website or mobile app.

First, check that users in RM Unify is MIS Synced and Matched. You can do this by visiting your RM management console as an administrator and clicking on the MIS Sync Settings tab.

Then on our platform go to Admin > Settings > Single Sign-On.

Enable RM Unify

💡 Please note, a user's role in RM Unify must match their account type in our system. For example, teaching staff must be marked as Teacher on both RM Unify and Satchel One.

🚩 Scottish schools usually use the RM Unify SSO with their Glow credentials. If any of your teachers work across two Satchel One schools, they can only use their Glow email and the above SSO for one school at a time. If you have any queries on this, please contact us.

Common Queries

Why set up single sign-on authentication .

Single Sign-On authentication enables your students and staff to get logged into Satchel using the login credentials that they are already accustomed to. This eliminates the need for maintaining and distributing a new set of login details, making our product easier to implement and manage!

Will we be able to use two Authentication methods simultaneously?

Certainly. You can use multiple SSO methods simultaneously.

Can users log on the mobile app using a Single Sign On method?

Absolutely! All Authentication methods outlined above are now also available on both the iOS and Android apps.

Can users still use their previous credentials to login?

Satchel credentials will still work for users who had previously had these set up, these can be entered via the normal login method. However with SSO enabled, they won't be able to change the password if they need to as the "password reset" emails will be disabled.
