Personality
An experiment of few words, Yin was shown to be cocky, short-tempered and reckless before her rehabilitation. She is single-minded and will focus only on what is right in front of her, paying little heed to anything else going on around her. This clearly demonstrates overconfidence in her own powers, as Yin considers them more than adequate to handle any threat. She is shown to not really care about other individuals' surroundings when using her squirting powers. However, she would defend her friends and ʻohana loyally, alongside Yang.
Physical appearance
Yin is a teal blue, amphibious squid/octopus-like experiment with eight water hose-like tentacles, a long, thin body, a slug-like foot, two small arms, black eyes and three tendrils on her head.
Special abilities
Yin can absorb water into her head through her tentacles, and then release the stored water in powerful sprays when she wishes. It is also shown that when Yin and Yang combine their powers, they are able to create rock/land.
Appearances
Lilo & stitch: the series.
Experiment 501 was the 501st genetic experiment created by Jumba with Hämsterviel 's funding. She was designed to spray surging water. 501 and the other first 624 experiments were deactivated and smuggled to Earth by Jumba during his mission to capture Experiment 626 .
All of the experiment pods were released and scattered across the island of Kauai, with 501's pod landing in a palm tree.
501's pod fell out of the tree and into a neighbor's pool below, activating the experiment. After the woman relaxing in the pool fled in fear, 501 absorbed the pool's water and, armed, set out to cause chaos.
501 traveled to the beach , where she was soon discovered by a little boy. When the boy squirted 501 with a super-soaker, the latter responded by attacking him and the rest of the beach with blasts of surging water.
501 later entered and attacked Kokaua Town . Stitch tied 501's tentacles together to render her defenseless, but this only caused her pain and her stored water to gush out and cause a flash flood.
Stitch's incompetence caused a rift between him and Lilo , and the two insisted that they each could catch an experiment without the other. After wagering an official contest, Stitch joined up with Jumba while Lilo joined up with Pleakley , with each pair hunting down an individual experiment.
501 was later chased by Lilo and Pleakley through a jungle, but the two failed to catch the former. While draining a pond to arm herself, Experiments 501 and 502 met for the first time. Jumba erroneously stated that if they both touched in any way, Earth would be destroyed. However, they were ambushed and captured in containment orbs by Gantu before they could make physical contact.
While returning to his ship with the two captured experiments, Gantu fell for a sandwich trap laid by Experiment 625 , allowing 501 and 502 to escape.
When Stitch later tracked 501 down to a backyard, the latter used a running tap to gain an infinite supply of water to use as ammo. However, her ammo ran out when Lilo turned the tap off, allowing Stitch to easily capture 501 in a container.
501 and 502 were then rehabilitated, named Yin and Yang, and given a one true place using their combined powers to create a whole new island.
Yin reappeared in " Elastico " as one of the audience members for Lilo's hula dance.
In " Houdini ", Yin was one of the audience members for Stitch's bungled magic act.
In " Finder ", Yin was seen playing poker with Stitch, Yang, Richter , and Cannonball .
In " Dupe ", Yin was one of the experiments that came to Lilo and Stitch's slumber party wearing a pink bathrobe and matching nightcap. However, she was forced by Pleakley to leave due to her destructive behavior.
In " Angel ", Yin was one of the experiments that Angel reverted to evil using her song. Later, Yin and the other depraved experiments attacked Stitch aboard a ship, but Angel turned them to good again before they could finish Stitch off. Working together, the experiments were then able to successfully escape the ship with Stitch.
Yin reappeared in " Slugger " as part of Lilo's softball team.
In " Shoe ", Yin was one of the experiments that helped turn Jumba's ship into a hotel .
Yin was one of the experiments in " Checkers " that joined Stitch in a rebellion against Gantu. Earlier in the episode, she, along with Digger and Backhoe , helped Lilo make mud.
In " Ace ", when Mortlegax arrived on Earth to decide whether or not Jumba was still evil, Yin and Yang posed as mutant creations as part of a hoax to fool the head of E.G.O. industries.
Leroy & Stitch
In the film's opening, Yin can be seen waving hello to Lilo , along with Yang and Cannonball . She was also seen later in the movie creating a new island with Yang as Lilo was making her rounds with Scrump to make sure all the experiments were happy in the one true place they belonged.
Later, the first 624 experiments, including Yin and Yang, were rounded up by Leroy and taken to a stadium to be destroyed. However, Lilo, Stitch , Jumba , Pleakley , Reuben , and Gantu arrived before the experiments could be destroyed.
Yin and Yang participated in the following battle between the experiments and the Leroy clones by using their combined powers to encase Leroys in rock. Yin also sprayed water at attacking Leroys until a Leroy clone completely tied her tentacles up, leaving her powerless and Yang to fight on his own.
However, the Leroys soon gained the upper hand in the battle, but were defeated when Lilo, Stitch, Reuben, and several other experiments performed the song " Aloha ʻOe ", which caused the Leroy army to shut down due to the original Leroy's fail-safe.
Yin made an appearance in the Stitch! anime special Stitch and the Planet of Sand .
- Yin was first revealed in a DVD bonus feature of Stitch! The Movie in the experiment gallery.
- Yin and Millie are the only two experiments with the most limbs out of any known experiment, with eleven and ten respectively. Yin has eight tentacles, two tiny arms, and one large slug-like foot, while Millie has eight tentacle-like arms and two tentacle-like legs.
- Yin and Huggo are the only known experiments based on cephalopods. Though given Huggo and Thresher 's uncanny resemblance, Thresher may also be cephalopod-like.
- Yin and Cannonball are the only known experiments whose functions are related to water.
- Lilo referred to Yin as a male in Lilo & Stitch: The Series . In the episode " Dupe ", Yin wore a pink bathrobe and nightcap to Lilo and Stitch's slumber party, but this still did not officially confirm the experiment's gender. Yin's true gender would not be re-confirmed as female until September 2018 and January 2019 in the respective Japanese and global versions of the mobile game Disney Tsum Tsum , during a Lilo & Stitch: The Series -themed event in the game that featured Yin and other experiments.
- Her name is derived from the concept of yin and yang ; in this case her name stems from the force of yin, which is associated with femininity, water, and cold, fitting her nature.
- Though Yin apparently has no visible mouth, a mouth appears on her in " Angel " when she and other experiments carry Stitch out of a ship. A mouth is also seen on Yin in a few scenes of " Slugger ", especially during Lilo and Mertle 's argument over the game rematch. A mouth appears on Yin again during the pillow fight scene in "Dupe".
- Yin's pod color is blue.
- Her number was also given to Richter (in " Ace "), most likely due to Jumba's untidy database .
- Yin's head and body appear in the online game Jumba's Lab .

Lilo & Stitch: The Series [ ]
Yang after being activated
When a stranded man poured water into his jeep's burnt-out engine, the water leaked out into the fissure and onto 502's pod, activating the experiment. 502 then erupted to the surface and set out to cause chaos.
While 502 was attempting to cross a road in front of an approaching car, the owner scolded him to get out of the way, causing the angered experiment to destroy the driver's automobile.
502 later entered Kokaua Town and went on a rampage, destroying everything in sight. Stitch jumped onto one of 502's back lava spouts to try and stop the latter, but 502 simply blasted Stitch off and most likely continued his rampage.
Stitch's incompetence caused a rift between him and Lilo , and the two insisted that they each could catch an experiment without the other. After wagering an official contest, Stitch joined up with Jumba while Lilo joined up with Pleakley , with each pair hunting down an individual experiment.
Later, while 502 was scratching himself, he was blasted into a net by Gantu . However, 502 was able to escape by simply using his lava to melt through the net.
Yin and Yang meet
502 was later chased by Stitch and Jumba through a jungle, but the two failed to catch the former. While continuing to flee his pursuers, Experiments 502 and 501 met for the first time.
When Lilo later tracked 502 down, the latter attacked her with fireballs. However, Lilo was able to block off 502's lava attacks long enough for Stitch to immobilize 502 via anti-heat foam, rendering him defenseless.
501 and 502 were then rehabilitated, named Yin and Yang, and given a one true place using their combined powers to create a whole new island.
Yang reappeared in " Elastico " as one of the audience members for Lilo's hula dance.
In " Houdini ", Yang was one of the audience members for Stitch's bungled magic act.
Yang attending Lilo and Stitch's slumber party
In " Finder ", Yang was seen playing poker with Stitch, Yin, Richter and Cannonball . He won the poker hand and the entire bet (which was cookies).
In " Dupe ", Yang was one of the experiments that came to Lilo and Stitch's slumber party wearing boxer shorts and bunny slippers. However, he was forced by Pleakley to leave due to his destructive behavior.
In " Angel ", Yang was one of the experiments that Angel reverted to evil using her song. Later, Yang and the other depraved experiments attacked Stitch aboard a ship, but Angel turned them to good again before they could finish Stitch off. Working together, the experiments were then able to successfully escape the ship with Stitch.
Yang reappeared in " Slugger " as part of Lilo's softball team.
In " Ace ", when Mortlegax arrived on Earth to decide whether or not Jumba was still evil, Yin and Yang posed as mutant creations as part of a hoax to fool the head of E.G.O. industries.
Leroy & Stitch [ ]
In the film's opening, Yang can be seen waving hello to Lilo , along with Yin and Cannonball . He was also seen later in the movie creating a new island with Yin as Lilo was making her rounds with Scrump to make sure all the experiments were happy in the one true place they belonged.
Later, the first 624 experiments, including Yang, were rounded up by Leroy and taken to a stadium to be destroyed. However, Lilo, Stitch , Jumba , Pleakley , Reuben and Gantu arrived before the experiments could be destroyed.
Yin and Yang participated in the following battle between the experiments and the Leroy clones by using their combined powers to encase Leroys in rock. Yang also shot balls of lava at attacking Leroys.
However, the Leroys soon gained the upper hand in the battle, but were defeated when Lilo, Stitch, Reuben and several other experiments performed the song " Aloha ʻOe ", which caused the Leroy army to shut down due to the original Leroy's fail-safe.
Stitch! anime [ ]
Yang made a cameo appearance in the Stitch! anime as an image on a computer screen. He later appeared in the special Stitch and the Planet of Sand .
Personality [ ]
An experiment of few words, Yang was shown to be fiery, short-tempered and hotheaded before his rehabilitation. He is single-minded and will focus only on what is right in front of him, paying little heed to anything else going on around him. This clearly demonstrates overconfidence in his own powers, as Yang considers them more than adequate to handle any threat. He is shown to not really care what other individuals want him to do, and has a tendency to be boastful. However, he would defend his friends and ʻohana loyally, alongside Yin.
Biology [ ]
Physical appearance [ ].
Yang is a quadrupedal, orange-and-red weasel/lizard/dragon-like experiment with four volcano-like spouts along his back, two volcano-like antennae on his head, black eyes, a round nose and a wide mouth with two fangs sticking out.
Special abilities [ ]
Yang can fire balls of lava from the spouts on his back at targets and enemies, and heat solid ground or other land with his feet. It is also shown that when Yin and Yang combine their powers, they are able to create rock/land.
Weaknesses [ ]
Anti-heat foam can incapacitate Yang and render him defenseless.
- An earlier, unused design for Yang was also shown in a promotional image for Stitch! The Movie .
- His name is derived from the concept of yin and yang ; in this case his name stems from the force of yang, which is associated with masculinity, fire, and heat, fitting his nature.
- Although Yang has been seen on his two hind legs, he is mostly seen on all fours.
- Yang, Plasmoid , and Splodyhead are the only known experiments that shoot plasma/lava balls. Also, Yang, Plasmoid, Melty , Heat , and Splodyhead are the only known experiments whose powers are related to fire.
- Yang is the only experiment besides Stitch to escape a net by himself.
- Yang's pod color is blue.
- Yang appears in the online game Lilo & Stitch: Alien Interception , along with Clyde , Dupe , Tank, Plasmoid , and Hämsterviel .

Lilo & Stitch: The Series S1 E9 "Yin-Yang" » Recap
Two experiments, one that shoots water and one that shoots lava, threaten to cause devastation should they meet. Lilo and Stitch argue over who's better at catching experiments and try to catch one of the two experiments first to prove who is the better experiment hunter. A truck is stopped on a road along the Kauaʻi shoreline. As its driver pours coolant into the overheated engine, some of the coolant spills into a crack, and suddenly the ground beneath him heats up. The man runs off in terror, the ground bursts open, and a strange lizard-like creature with lava spouts on its back crawls out of the hole. Meanwhile, in Kokaua Town, an old woman relaxes in a hot tub when something falls into the water. The woman screams and runs off as an octopus-like creature appears and sucks up all the water in the tub.
Gantu comes out of the shower to find that two experiments, 501 and 502, have been activated. However, upon seeing 625 napping, Gantu wakes his partner up and forces him to assist in getting the experiments. 625 reluctantly agrees but convinces Gantu that they should each go after one of the experiments instead.
Lilo and Stitch are visiting David's for a day of surfing. However, they suddenly fight when Lilo tries to get Stitch to help wax their surfboard, only for him to eat the bar of wax. David tries to get them to cooperate by telling them that they should work together instead of against each other, like yin and yang, two different things that come together to make a good thing, like how lava from the volcano and water from the ocean come together to make an island. Sadly though, it doesn't come through to our duo, and Stitch finishes off what is apparently the last bar of wax. "This is not harmony," says David.
Lilo and Stitch continue to argue until they find a lava-spewing experiment (the same one that viewers saw earlier) causing chaos in Kokaua Town. Lilo tries to come up with a plan, but Stitch rushes to grab the experiment and gets blown away . He tries to blame Lilo for his mistake , but then he gets blasted with water by another experiment (the same octopus-like experiment viewers also saw earlier). He ties up the experiment's tentacles, but Lilo protests saying that Stitch is hurting the experiment. Said experiment blasts both of them away, causing the duo to be almost washed away down a drainage pipe (Stitch saved both himself and Lilo).
The duo returns home where Jumba tells them that they are dealing with Experiments 501 and 502, who are respectively capable of firing high-pressure water and hot lava. He also says that 501 and 502 are to never meet, for if they do so, their abilities combined can be explosive. Lilo and Stitch still continue to fight; they both proclaim that they can catch an experiment without the other's help and run off. Jumba is amused by Lilo thinking that she could capture an experiment without Stitch, considering Stitch's skills and abilities. However, Pleakley interjects saying that Stitch is nothing without Lilo and her Earth brains and instincts. The aliens make a wager in which whoever's selected experiment hunter gets an experiment first, the loser must perform the "Funky Glognar" a long and humiliating dance that is infamous throughout the galaxy.
As Gantu tries and fails to capture 502, not helped by 625's reluctance in putting any effort in experiment hunting, Jumba and Pleakley respectively have Stitch and Lilo gear up to catch the experiments, with Stitch going after 502 and Lilo aiming to get 501. But just when they were close to getting the experiments, their fighting cause the four to get stuck in Jumba's anti-heat foam he gave Stitch, allowing Gantu to easily come in and take the experiments right in front of them.
Stitch breaks everyone free from the foam and it becomes a mad dash for the experiments. However, Gantu falls for an egg salad sandwich trap laid by 625 and gets caught, causing 501 and 502 to break free. Gantu yells at his partner through a containment capsule that if they worked together in the first place, they wouldn't be in this mess, and Lilo says that the "big dummy" is right. She says that this is what David was trying to tell them about yin and yang. Thus, Lilo and Stitch finally reunite and work together again, using each other's tools provided to them to capture both experiments at the same time.
Experiments who appeared or were mentioned:
- Yin (X-501) : One of the episode's two Monsters of the Week ; a teal octopus/squid-like experiment who sprays water at high pressures.
- Yang (X-502) : The other Monster of the Week ; an orange-red weasel/lizard-like experiment who shoots lava.
- Reuben (X-625) : Gantu is displeased with 625 not pulling his weight and forces him to help capture the experiments. However, Reuben uses Gantu's arrogance to get away with being left alone.
Tropes featured in this episode include:
- Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick : When Lilo explains to Jumba about David telling her and Stitch about how yin and yang are two different things coming together to make one good thing, like peanut butter and jelly or doughnuts and... mustard.
- Cassandra Truth : A man who gets singed and his car destroyed by Yang tries to tell a police officer about the lava-spewing creature, but the officer doesn't believe him and tells him to move his car.
- Caught in a Snare : Gantu falls for a trap laid out by 625 that was intended for either Yin or Yang. Gantu finds an egg salad lying on the ground and grabs it, causing him to fall into a hole in the ground that suddenly appears and gets his head stuck in a containment capsule that falls from above. Not only that, but Gantu also loses the capsules that he put the experiments in, which break and free them .
- Extreme Omnivore : Stitch eats surfboard wax when Lilo tries to get him to wax their surfboard, which angers her and starts up their arguments with each other throughout the episode. Later on, he tries to eat Jumba's laser shield, which zaps Stitch and angers him for being inedible.
- Feud Episode : Lilo and Stitch fight during this episode arguing who is the better experiment hunter, going against one another with Pleakley and Jumba's respective support to see who can catch one of the experiments first. This is the basis of this episode's lesson that they all learn, as both parties fail to capture an experiment on their own, yet succeed when they work together.
- Fire/Water Juxtaposition : Well, more like "Lava/Water Juxtaposition" in this case with experiments Yin (501) and Yang (502). The majority of the episode sets them up that they must never meet or the elemental clash would cause a deadly reaction, but it turns out Opposites Attract and their powers combined can create new landforms. Given that Lilo & Stitch takes place in Hawaii, this could very well be a reference to the legend of Pele and Naʻmaka in Pacific Mythology .
- Foreshadowing : David tells Lilo and Stitch how lava and water come together to make an island.
- Humiliating Wager : When Lilo and Stitch argue over who is better at catching experiments, Jumba and Pleakley get involved and make a bet whoever's protégé (Stitch for Jumba and Lilo for Pleakley) catches one of the two experiments first, the other must perform "the Funky Glognar, the witless dance of a thousand hours." However, Lilo and Stitch end up capturing both experiments together, which means both Jumba and Pleakley lose and have to perform the dance.
- Jerkass Has a Point : While hearing Gantu yell at 625 that they wouldn't have lost the experiments if they had worked together from the start , Lilo and Stitch realize the same goes for them .
- Lady Looks Like a Dude : Yin is supposed to be a female experiment, but she's constantly referred to as a male by Lilo in this episode.
- Leeroy Jenkins : When Stitch first sees Yang, he almost immediately goes to grab the experiment, even though Lilo was trying to come up with a plan first.
- Meet Cute : Jumba warns that the Earth could be destroyed if Yin and Yang ever meet. They do, and the scene shown at the top of this page happens.
- Never My Fault : Stitch tries to blame Lilo for his mistake in rushing to grab Yang when she didn't do anything.
- Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness : As Lilo and Pleakley chase Gantu for catching Yin and Yang, Pleakley says this. Pleakley : If Stitch wins, I'll be doing the dreaded Glocknar until the bovines return to their domiciles ('til the cows come home)!
- Ship Tease : The way Yin and Yang look at each other when they Meet Cute strongly suggests this.
- 625 reads a book entitled Escape from Sandwich Mountain .
- The tune of the "Funky Glognar" appears to be a parody of "Play That Funky Music White Boy".
- Silly Song : The song of the "Funky Glognar" that Jumba and Pleakley perform near the end of the episode is just as ridiculous as their clothes and dancing.
- Villainous Rescue : Gantu, in a way, as he catches both Yin and Yang before they can make contact and cause a planet-destroying chain reaction.

Experiments 501 and 502: Yin and Yang
Within Lilo and Stitch: The Series, there are rare occasions where the norm for an episode is broken. Instead of one experiment being introduced in an episode, sometimes it is two or more. This post is going to involve two experiments that take part on this. They are experiment 501 and experiment 502, Yin and Yang.
Their names, given by Lilo, fits well with them. They are complete opposites in every way. 501, Yin, is blue, female, is made to attack with water, and looks like something capable of living at sea. 502, Yang, is red, male, is made to attack with balls of lava, and looks like something capable of living on land. Yet even with these differences, there's something that both can only accomplished together.
Early in their episode, Jumba states that the two should never cross paths, that something as simple as their fingers touching could be dangerous. Alone, they're are already like this. They cause chaos by squirting water and spitting up lava and they laugh about what they're doing. Seeing this, you would quickly agree with what Jumba says. Yet that's not the case.
What's great about this episode, is how it focuses on what Lilo and Stitch, both the films and the television show, are trying to tell the audience. That no matter how different two are, together they can make something magical. Take the two main characters of the franchise for example. One is a human and the other is an alien. They have different backgrounds, but show that they're a capable of doing things one can't do alone.
I know, I'm pretty much saying the same thing over and over again, but that's was Lilo and Stitch is all about. That and family, of course. They show that in this episode as the two are fighting with one another while trying to capture Yin and Yang. Alone they fail miserably. Heck, it's not just them. Every character in this episode are paired up and show that separately nothing can get done.
It's revealed at the end of the episode that Yin and Yang's one true place of belonging is not an actual home, but something they can accomplish as a duo. With their abilities, they're able to make a whole new island. This was going against Jumba's fears at the first half of the episode. They didn't cause the end, but instead, the beginning of something.
I like both experiments. I love the episode over all. It holds strong to the what this franchise tries to tells us.
