"Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic, so I wanna thank him for adding that to our shoot because I'll always remember that."

Now a pop megastar with 14 Grammys, she is the first artist to win Album of the Year four times. Named Time ’s 2023 Person of the Year, Swift is currently performing on her record-breaking Eras Tour and is dating professional football player Travis Kelce . FULL NAME: Taylor Alison Swift BORN: December 13, 1989 BIRTHPLACE: Reading, Pennsylvania ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Sagittarius

Taylor Alison Swift was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on December 13, 1989. Swift spent her early years with her parents, Scott and Andrea, and brother, Austin, on the family’s Christmas tree farm in nearby Wyomissing. “I had the most magical childhood, running free and going anywhere I wanted to in my head,” she told Rolling Stone . She learned to ride horses and competed, but a greater passion soon took root.

Swift followed in the musical footsteps of her grandmother Marjorie Finlay, a professional opera singer. By age 10, Swift sang at various local events, including fairs and contests. She sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game at age 11 and began learning guitar and writing her own songs at 12. (Her songwriting parallels the poetry of her distant cousin Emily Dickinson .) Her early music idols included Shania Twain and The Chicks.

To pursue her music career, Swift often visited Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital. There, she co-wrote songs and tried to land a recording contract. Noting her dedication, her family moved to nearby Hendersonville when she was 13 in an attempt to further young Swift’s career. She attended Hendersonville High School before finishing her education through the homeschooling program of Aaron Academy, a private Christian school, once her musical career took off.

One of today’s biggest pop stars, Swift has worked her way from performing at local venues in Tennessee to commanding stadiums full of Swifties—her adoring fans—on international tours. A stellar performance at The Bluebird Café in Nashville helped her get a contract with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records at age 14.

She spent her early career as a country musician, and her first single, “ Tim McGraw ,” was named after one of the genre’s biggest stars. The 2006 song, which she wrote in her first-year math class, became a Top 10 hit on Billboard ’s country charts, quickly launching Swift into the spotlight. McGraw and fellow country music singer Faith Hill even brought Swift on their Soul2Soul tour the next year as an opening act. Reminiscing on the tour years later, McGraw told ET Canada , “Faith and I both knew that there was no stopping her. She’s a special talent.”

It wasn’t long before Swift began receiving critical praise for her work. The teenager won the Horizon Award from the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Award for Top New Female Vocalist in 2007. The following year, she was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys. She became the youngest artist to win the Grammy for Album of the Year for Fearless in 2010.

The country music darling eventually began experimenting with genre. With her fifth album, 1989 , she decisively reintroduced herself as a pop musician. Her new sound excited fans, and the 2014 release is one of her most successful to date, spending 11 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and selling more than 1.2 million copies in its first week.

Not everything about her music changed, though. Personal experiences, including her romantic relationships, continue to fuel Swift’s songwriting. “I’m enthralled by relationships, and I love the drama in them, but that’s usually where it lives,” Swift told Rolling Stone in 2009, maintaining “I’m not a dramatic person.” Hardly the first musician to utilize this practice, the pop star usually doesn’t reveal who her song subjects. Instead, her loyal fans obsess over easter eggs in her lyrics and music videos to pinpoint a likely person.

Since March 2023, Swift has been performing on her headline-grabbing Eras Tour. It marks her sixth international tour, having first headlined her own concert series after releasing her sophomore album, Fearless . When presale tickets for the Eras Tour went live in November 2022, so many fans attempted to snag their seats that Ticketmaster canceled the general sale, leading to a congressional hearing about the debacle. Already one of the highest-grossing touring musicians as of July 2022, Swift has earned more than $1 billion on the Eras Tour , surpassing Elton John ’s record-setting farewell tour that spanned five years. The Eras Tour wraps in December 2024 after dozens more concerts, mostly abroad.

Swift’s successes in 2023 also include: the release of the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) album, the record-setting concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , two more No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, tying with Drake as the artist with the most Billboard Music Awards in history, dethroning Bad Bunny as Spotify’s and Apple Music’s most streamed artist of the year, and achieving billionaire status. All that culminated in Time naming her its 2023 Person of the Year. Swift is the fifth woman to receive the honor.

Early in 2024, Swift became the first artist to win the Grammy for Album of the Year four times, further cementing her place in the history books.

Swift has won 14 Grammy Awards out of 52 nominations.

She was first nominated in 2008 for Best New Artist. Although Amy Winehouse claimed the honor, 20-year-old Swift lived up to her promising career start by collecting four Grammys the following year. Fearless won Album of the Year and Best Country Album, and “White Horse” was named Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2009.

Swift has now won Album of the Year four times: for Fearless , 1989 , folklore , and Midnights. She is the only artist to have accomplished this feat, setting the record in 2024. Midnights also won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album this year.

Even so, Swift has never won the top song honor of Song of the Year, though she has received a record seven nominations in the category. As for Best Country Song, the artist has won twice in five nominations; “Mean” earned the trophy the year after “White Horse” did.

The singer-songwriter has won many other accolades, including nine CMA Awards and eight ACM Awards. Both country music organizations have twice named her Entertainer of the Year. Since her first in 2009, Swift has taken home 23 Video Music Awards, second only to Beyoncé . Billboard called her Woman of the Year in 2012, one of Swift’s 39 awards from the publication. She is tied with Drake for as the artist with the most Billboard Music Awards trophies.

In December 2023, Swift notched another first when she received her first Golden Globe Award nomination for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour . Her concert film competed in but didn’t win Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the January 2024 ceremony.

In September 2024, Swift won seven awards at MTV Video Music Awards, including Artist of the Year. She now has a total of 30 VMAs, matching Beyoncé's record for most wins.

Since her first single, “Tim McGraw,” in 2006, Swift’s music has found a home on the Billboard charts. As of June 24, 2024, she has had 263 songs grace the mainstream Hot 100. That includes 12 No. 1 hits and a record-setting 59 songs in the top 10; no woman has had more top 10 hits, and Swift only trails Drake among all artists. She also holds nine No. 1 Hot Country Songs, including “Our Song” and “Should’ve Said No.”

“Fearless” debuted at No. 9 on the mainstream chart in November 2008, marking Swift’s first top 10 song. Her first Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper was roughly four years away. That came in September 2012 with Grammy-nominated “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Her other No 1. songs include:

  • “Shake It Off”
  • “Blank Space”
  • “Bad Blood”
  • “Look What You Made Me Do”
  • “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)”
  • “Anti-Hero”
  • “Cruel Summer”
  • “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]”
  • “Fortnight”

At 10 minutes and 13 seconds, “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” is the longest No. 1 hit in history. “Shake It Off” is Swift’s only diamond-certified song, having sold the equivalent of 10 million copies.

To date, Swift has released 19 albums, including 11 original studio albums, four rereleases, and four live albums. Excluding those live recordings, every album since her sophomore effort, Fearless , has nabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for at least one week. In December 2023, she became the first living artist to have five albums simultaneously rank among the chart’s top 10.

Her first album came in 2006 with Taylor Swift , and her newest album is 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department . Her latest rerecorded album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) , debuted in October 2023. Her albums, in order, are:

The young musician’s self-titled debut album was released in October 2006 when she was 16. Spurred on by the success of songs like “Tim McGraw,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” and “Our Song,” it became a No. 1 country album in August 2007 and held the top spot for a total of 24 weeks. Indicating her future crossover success, the album also reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Taylor Swift has sold more than 7 million copies to date.

In November 2008, Swift released her next album, Fearless , which quickly hit the top of both the country and pop charts, marking her first No. 1 mainstream album. It maintained its apex ranking on the charts for weeks on end. By the end of the year, Swift had become 2008’s highest-selling country artist.

Now a Diamond-certified album, Fearless earned Swift her first Grammy Awards in January 2010. In addition to Best Country Album, it took home one of the night’s top honors with Album of the Year. The track “White Horse” won Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, while “You Belong With Me” was nominated for three Grammys. Also named Album of the Year at the CMA and ACM Awards, Fearless featured the top 10 hits “Love Story,” “Fearless,” and “Change.”

After skeptics doubted her involvement in her songwriting, Swift chose to write her next album alone. Speak Now came out in October 2010 and immediately found success. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 1 million copies in its first week. Popular tracks included “Mine,” “Back To December,” “Speak Now,” and the Grammy-winning “Mean.” Swift was once again nominated for Best Country Album at the Grammys but didn’t win.

Edging her way into pop music, Swift followed with Red , which featured her first No. 1 single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and also topped 1 million in its first week of sales. The October 2012 release collected Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Country Album. “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Red,” and “Begin Again” were among its most popular songs.

With her next effort, Swift stepped outside her country music roots squarely into mainstream pop. She released 1989 in October 2014. It tied her record (set by Fearless ) for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, produced three chart-topping singles, and moved more than 1.2 million copies in its first week. That made Swift the first artist to pass the 1 million mark in opening-week sales for three albums. She won her second Album of the Year award at the Grammys in February 2016 as well as Best Pop Vocal Album for her work.

In late August 2017, using an image of a snake, Swift revealed that she would release her sixth studio album, reputation , that November. Swift debuted the first single, “Look What You Made Me Do,” on August 24. In the music video, Swift played characters of all her misrepresentations. The video had more than 19 million views on YouTube within the first day.

Days before reputation ’s scheduled November 10 release, its secret tracklist was leaked to social media. Swift responded by posting the complete list to her Instagram page: 15 songs, including a collaborative effort with Ed Sheeran and rapper Future titled “End Game.” The two later appeared in the video for the track, which debuted in January 2018.

Reputation sold 1.05 million copies in the United States over its first four days. Along with giving the artist her fourth consecutive album to surpass 1 million in sales for its opening week, that total made reputation the top-selling album of 2017. Its success continued into 2018, surpassing 2 million in sales while generating the release of seven singles. By the end of the year, Grammy-nominated reputation had been honored with Favorite Pop/Rock Album at the American Music Awards and Top Selling Album at the Billboard Music Awards.

On April 26, 2019, Swift debuted “ME!” with Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco, along with a video of the duo singing and dancing amid a panoply of elaborate sets and swirling colors. It became the first single from her seventh studio album, Lover , with “You Need to Calm Down” and the title track also hitting the airwaves as singles over the next few months. The album was released in August.

In November, Swift claimed a whopping six wins at the American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year and Artist of the Decade honors. Swift also received her third consecutive Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. A few weeks later, it was reported that Lover was the only album to sell 1 million copies in the U.S. in 2019.

Nearly four years later, Lover ’s “Cruel Summer” was promoted as her latest single amid her highly successful Eras tour. The song enjoyed renewed success, becoming Swift’s 10 th song to top the Billboard Hot 100.

On July 23, 2020, Swift announced on Instagram that she planned to release her eighth studio album, folklore . The 16-track album—made with Aaron Dessner of The National, Jack Antonoff of Bleachers, and Justin Vernon, better known as Bon Iver—debuted the next day at midnight. The alternative influence of her collaborators was apparent throughout.

Folklore produced the top 10 hits “The 1” and “Exile” featuring Bon Iver, plus went on to win Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammys. Swift also made history that year, becoming the only female solo artist to win that award three times.

Less than six months later, Swift dropped another surprise album to accompany folklore . She announced on December 10, 2020, that evermore would release at midnight the next day. “To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs,” Swift wrote in a social media post . “In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.” Evermore earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, though unlike its sister album, it didn’t win.

Swift released her 10 th studio album, Midnights , at midnight on October 21, 2022. Three hours later, she released seven extra tracks in a deluxe version titled Midnights (3 am Edition) . The album broke new ground for the already prolific Swift, making her the first artist to have a song on all of the top 10 slots on the Billboard Hot 100. That included “Anti-Hero” at No. 1, “Snow On The Beach” featuring Lana Del Rey , “Lavender Haze,” and “Karma.” Actor Zoë Kravitz earned writing credits on the latter two songs, and Jack Antonoff played a heavy hand in the album’s creation, cowriting 11 of Midnights ’ 13 songs.

The Tortured Poets Department

At the 2024 Grammy Awards , Swift announced her next album, The Tortured Poets Department , would arrive on April 19, 2024. Fans were in for an even bigger surprise early that morning when the singer revealed it was a double album. The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology included 15 additional songs, bringing the total to 31 tracks.

Tortured Poets marks Swift’s 14 th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, tying Jay-Z’s record for most among solo artists. Only The Beatles have more, at 19. Within 12 hours of its release, Tortured Poets broke the single-day streaming record on Spotify before becoming the most streamed album across platforms in a single week in history. Fans in the United States streamed the collection more than 891.3 million times , according to data firm Luminate.

Taylor’s Version albums

After the master recordings to her first six studio albums were sold in 2019, Swift decided to rerecord her old music to regain artistic and financial control of her catalog. So far, she has released four of six: Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in April 2021, Red (Taylor’s Version) in November 2021,  Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in July 2023, and  1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October 2023 . Each included previously unreleased songs labeled as “From The Vault,” some of which she recorded with fellow musicians Keith Urban , Ed Sheeran , Chris Stapleton , and Phoebe Bridgers, among others.

Swift hasn’t shared when she will rerelease Taylor Swift and reputation .

When she was 26, Swift was the highest-paid musician—and celebrity of any industry—of 2016 per Forbes , earning $170 million. It was one successful year among many, allowing the pop star to amass a substantial net worth. By late October 2023, Swift had become a billionaire, according to Bloomberg .

As of June 24, 2024, Forbes estimates Swift has a net worth of $1.3 billion. The publication also reports she is the first person to become a billionaire primarily from songwriting and performing. In 2023, she earned an estimated $131 million on Spotify alone, as the platform’s worldwide top-streamed artist of the year.

Her wealth has skyrocketed in the past year and a half, fueled by the pop star’s highly successful Eras Tour. Pollstar reported in December 2023 that the ongoing tour has earned $1,039,263,762 , making Swift the first musician to gross over $1 billion on a single tour. The trade publication previously estimated the tour brings in $14 million in ticket sales each night.

Swift ranks No. 17 on Pollstar ’s list of highest-grossing touring artists since 1980, selling nearly $925 million in tickets from her first five tours and other appearances as of July 2022. The only women higher on the list are Madonna , Celine Dion , and Beyoncé .

Contributing to her overall net worth are her real estate holdings. According to Business Insider , her properties total $84 million. She also has lucrative endorsement deals with Capitol One, Stella McCartney, Diet Coke, Apple, and more.

Over the years, the musician has shared some of her fortune to help others. For example, in 2013, she funded the $4 million Taylor Swift Education Center at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. The facility opened with three classrooms, a learning lab, and a space dedicated to exhibits for children. In an interview with CMT Hot 20 Countdown , she explained that “music education is really such an important part of my life. My life changed so completely when I discovered writing my own songs and playing guitar, and that can’t necessarily all be taught to you in school because there aren’t enough hours in the day.”

The megastar has been involved in a few legal disputes, which all have gone in her favor. In August 2017, she testified in a trial against David Mueller, a former radio DJ she accused of groping her four years earlier. Mueller denied Swift’s allegations and said the incident cost him his job, which led him to sue Swift, her mother, and a radio station employee in 2015. Swift countersued him for alleged assault and battery, and a jury ruled in her favor in 2017, awarding her $1 in damages as a symbolic gesture.

Swift responded to the verdict: “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society, and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”

Also in 2017, Swift was on the receiving end of a lawsuit when two songwriters claimed that she stole the chorus of their song “Playas Gon’ Play” for her hit “Shake It Off.” Although a judge dismissed the case in early 2018 on the grounds that the “allegedly infringed lyrics are short phrases that lack the modicum of originality and creativity required for copyright protection,” an appeals court revived the suit in October 2019. Shortly before the trial was scheduled to begin, a judge dismissed the case in December 2022 at the request of both parties. A few media outlets reported a settlement, but if so, the terms weren’t publicly released.

The musician was trapped in another copyright lawsuit when a Mississippi woman claimed “a number of creative elements” from her self-published poetry book appeared in Swift’s companion book for her Lover (2019) album. The author sued in August 2022 but voluntarily dropped her case the next July.

In November 2018, Swift signed with Universal Music Group’s Republic Records. The deal granted the musician ownership of her master recordings, something she didn’t have in her agreement with her first label, Big Machine Records.

The next June, Swift revealed her dismay that Big Machine sold her catalog of music from her first six albums, up to reputation , to a company owned by Scooter Braun , the now-retired manager of artists like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande and a person she accused of bullying tactics. “Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy,” she wrote on Tumblr . “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.” Just before the August 2019 release of Lover , Swift confirmed she would rerecord her old music to regain artistic and financial control of her catalog.

Swift’s catalog was sold again, in October 2020, to Shamrock Holdings for around $300 million. In a lengthy post on Twitter (now called X), Swift gave her fans an update:

“As you know, for the past year, I’ve been actively trying to regain ownership of my master recordings. With that goal in mind, my team attempted to enter into negotiations with Scooter Braun. “Scooter’s team wanted me to sign an ironclad NDA stating I would never say another word about Scooter Braun unless it was positive, before we could even look at the financial records of BMLG... I would have to sign a document that would silence me forever before I could even have a chance to bid on my own work. My legal team said that this is absolutely NOT normal, and they’ve never seen an NDA like this presented unless it was to silence an assault accuser by paying them off. He would never even quote my team a price. These master recordings were not for sale to me.”

Swift added the deal still allows Braun to profit from her music and that she was in the process of re-recording her old music. Her first rerecorded release, “Love Story (Taylor’s Version),” came in mid-February 2021. So far, she has reissued four of six albums from her early catalog.

travis kelce and taylor swift stand on a football field at night, he has one arm around her shoulders and they hold hands

Currently, Swift is dating NFL football player Travis Kelce . On a July 2023 episode of his New Heights podcast , Kelce explained how he tried to give Swift his number on a friendship bracelet after attending the Eras Tour in Kansas City. Soon after, Swift reached out, and they went public with their romance in the fall. “Obviously, I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them... I’ve never dealt with it,” Kelce told The Wall Street Journal . “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.”

Swift attended 12 of his NFL games in the 2023 season and postseason. “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” she told Time . “I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

Kelce returned the support in mid-November 2023, traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to attend one of her concerts on the Eras Tour. During the show, Swift changed one of her lyrics in the song “Karma” to reference Kelce, and the couple were caught kissing on camera for the first time . At a June 2024 concert in London, Kelce briefly joined Swift on stage, helping her complete an outfit change between songs.

Over the years, Swift has dated several celebrities. During much of 2008, reports circulated that she was dating musician Joe Jonas of The Jonas Brothers. The song “Forever & Always” is reportedly about Jonas. The following year, Swift briefly dated actor Taylor Lautner , whom she met while they filmed the 2010 movie Valentine’s Day . Swift then dated fellow singer-songwriter John Mayer for a brief period beginning in late 2009; he’s thought to be the inspiration for her song “Dear John.”

From there, Swift was romantically linked to actors Cory Monteith and Jake Gyllenhaal in 2010, then Conor Kennedy—son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. —in 2012. She celebrated the new year with One Direction’s Harry Styles in 2013, but the relationship ended later that year. In 2015, Swift dated DJ and music producer Calvin Harris, though the couple reportedly broke up in June 2016. Shortly after that, the pop star began dating actor Tom Hiddleston , but the couple split three months later.

Swift’s longest relationship to date was with actor Joe Alwyn. The pair met at the 2016 Met Gala and were together from 2017 until spring 2023. Beyond being another boyfriend to spark her songwriting, Alwyn also helped write songs on her folklore , evermore , and Midnights albums under the pseudonym William Bowery. After their breakup, Swift briefly dated musician Matty Healy, lead singer of The 1975 band.

Beyond her romantic relationships, Swift has had many high-profile friendships—with singer and actor Selena Gomez , model Karlie Kloss , and actor Blake Lively , to name a few—as well as headline-making feuds. Chief among those is her beef with rapper Kanye West .

kayne west speaks into a handheld microphone on a stage as taylor swift stands feet away holding a silver trophy, he wears a black shirt with jeans and sunglasses, she wears a bejeweled one strap dress

In 2009, when Swift won the MTV Video Music Award’s Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me,” West led to the stage as the young singer gave her acceptance speech. He took the mic and famously declared, “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”

The stunned Swift could not finish her acceptance speech, and West was removed from the show. When Beyoncé accepted her award for Best Video of the Year later in the night, she called Swift to the stage to finish her speech. West later apologized to Swift privately and publicly on The Jay Leno Show .

In early 2016, West released his song “Famous,” which includes a lyric taking credit for her fame and calling her a derogatory word. The rapper said Swift had approved the line in a phone call, though her team initially denied the conversation. Days later, Swift said in a Grammys acceptance speech:

“I wanna say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work, and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who loved you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

Kim Kardashian , who was married to West then, defended her husband in a GQ interview that summer and released clips of the phone call between the musicians. Although edited, the recordings proved Swift’s PR team had been lying in their initial statement. Kardashian also implied Swift was a snake in a July 2016 social media post . The pop star alluded to the fight in the songs “Look What You Made Me Do” and “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” from her reputation (2017) album. She has also used snakes in music videos and onstage in concerts. The feud briefly reignited in March 2020 when a 25-minute video of the phone conversation leaked online.

Previously having released several concert movies, Swift made a bigger splash with her Netflix documentary Miss Americana . The January 2020 release covered the makings of her recent studio albums as well as other high-profile events like her sexual assault trial. Miss Americana earned a limited run in theaters simultaneously to its streaming release.

Swift’s newest concert movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , capitalizes on her massive star power. The film opened exclusively in theaters—3,850 locations in North America alone—in October 2023. According to Comscore, no other concert movie enjoyed as wide of a release . It also had showtimes in some 90 other countries and grossed more than $261 million worldwide , making it the highest-grossing concert film of all time . Swift sweetened the show for at-home viewers with two extended versions. Disney+ subscribers can watch the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) , featuring five additional songs. The movie is also available for rent on other streaming platforms with three additional songs.

Swift has also dabbled in acting. She appeared in the 2010 blockbuster Valentine’s Day alongside Julia Roberts , Jamie Foxx , Jessica Biel , Bradley Cooper , and other Hollywood heavyweights. A voice role in The Lorax (2012) and another role in The Giver (2014) followed. In December 2019, Swift was featured in a live-action adaptation of the famed Broadway musical Cats , along with Jennifer Hudson , James Corden , and Rebel Wilson . She also teamed with Cats creator Andrew Lloyd Webber to write a song, “Beautiful Ghosts,” for the movie. Swift also had a cameo in 2022’s Amsterdam .

Pop superstar Taylor Swift has officially hit billionaire status, according to an analysis by Bloomberg. The analysis by Bloomberg News puts Swift's total net worth at $1.1 billion as of October 2023, mainly driven by the success of the U.S. leg of her Eras tour. Swift is one of the few artists to reach billionaire status from music and performing alone, per Bloomberg.

The 12-time Grammy Award winner made more than $780 million on the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour , according to an estimate by Forbes. The total ticket sales from Swift's 2023 Eras Tour could make her the highest-grossing female touring artist of all time , according to Billboard . The Eras Tour could gross over $1 billion, making concert history as the first billion-dollar tour, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Swift's The Eras Tour concert film became the highest-grossing concert film in North America, bringing in an estimated $95 million to $97 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada, according to Axios. The concert film is part of a partnership between Swift and AMC Entertainment, who is the distributor for the film in addition to showing it in theaters. The Eras Tour concert film opened worldwide on October 13, 2023, and sold over $100 million in advance tickets a week before the film premiered across 100 countries.

Key Takeaways

  • Swift made more than $780 million on the U.S. leg of her 2023 The Eras Tour , according to an estimate by Forbes.

  • Swift's The Eras Tour concert film became the highest-grossing concert film in North America, bringing in an estimated $95 million to $97 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend.

The pop superstar sold 2 million tickets for her Eras Tour on November 15th, 2022—the most tickets ever sold for an artist in a single day, according to Ticketmaster.

This isn’t the first time Taylor Swift has broken records, or set them. Swift’s Reputation tour was the highest-grossing tour in U.S. history at the time, she is the first artist in history to have claimed all the top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 song list, and she was ranked third on Forbes’ list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women Under 40 in 2022.

From record-breaking concert ticket and album sales to a sprawling real estate portfolio, here's how Taylor Swift built her empire.

Swift has primarily earned her millions from a successful music career, which she began at age 16 with her eponymous debut album. Since then, her 10 studio albums have sold millions of copies both physical and digital.

In 2020, her albums Evermore and Folklore made up the bulk of her $23.8 million revenue, with Billboard estimating that the singer took home 46% of the royalties from sales and streaming, since she owned the masters. The publishing rights that Swift owns for her previous albums are worth an estimated $200 million according to Forbes.

Swift made another $92 million in 2022, and was No. 9 on the Forbes’ list of The World’s 10 Highest-Paid Entertainers—the sixth time she was ranked. Most of the $92 million she earned was from previously recorded albums. In 2021, Swift re-recorded and re-released her old albums Red and Fearless (Taylor’s Version), since the ownership of their original masters had been sold.

The singer-songwriter’s latest album, Midnights, sold 6 million album equivalent units worldwide in the first two months of its release. According to Universal Music Group, Swift is the only artist ever to have five albums with more than 1 million units sold during release week.

Swift’s 2018 Reputation tour brought in $266.1 million in ticket sales, breaking the record for the highest-grossing U.S. tour since Billboard Boxscore started tracking data in 1990. In 2015, Swift’s 1989 world tour generated $250 million in global ticket sales, making her the top-grossing touring artist that year.

Swift kicked off her her 53-date Eras Tour around the U.S. in March 2023, where she earned about $10 to $13 million each night of the tour, according to Forbes. The superstar earned about $780 million in ticket sales on the U.S. leg of her tour. Meanwhile, Swift's fans are suing Ticketmaster over alleged fraud and antitrust violations during the Eras ticket presale in fall 2022.

Real Estate Empire

In addition to her successful music career, Swift also has a real estate portfolio worth more than $150 million, according to The Wall Street Journal , including sprawling beachfront mansions and property in Tribeca.

Among her properties, Swift owns several units in a luxury-condo building in Nashville, Tennessee. She first purchased a penthouse at the Adelicia building when she was 19 years old for $1.99 million through a trust , and later bought the unit below for $387,000. Her holdings in the Adelicia are worth $4 to $6 million, based on estimates by the Wall Street Journal. Swift also owns an estate in Forest Hills, Tennessee that is worth an estimated $8 million.

Rhode Island

Swift also owns a seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom beachfront property in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, which she reportedly bought through an LLC for about $17.75 million in 2013. The nearly 12,000 square-foot property is valued at about $30 million.

New York City

Swift broke into the Manhattan real estate market as well, and owns a duplex and a townhouse in Tribeca, worth a total of $45 million if she were to sell them. The duplex was initially two penthouses that Swift bought for nearly $20 million, and eventually combined into a single dwelling.

In 2015, the pop superstar bought the historic Goldwyn Mansion in Beverly Hills, California for $25 million. The estate was built by Samuel Goldwyn, a Hollywood producer who was part of the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio. Swift restored the 1930s mansion to its former glory, and was granted permission to have the home considered a historic landmark. The home is currently worth an estimated $30 million according to Zillow.

Endorsement Deals

Swift has also entered into partnerships with major brands such as Coca-Cola, CoverGirl, Keds, AT&T, Target, and Sony Electronics throughout her career.

The singer-songwriter appeared in many advertising campaigns for the brands across print, television, and digital platforms.

In 2022, FTX approached Swift for a $100 million sponsorship deal, which she turned down after doing her due diligence . Adam Moskowitz, one of the lawyers leading a class action lawsuit against FTX and its celebrity ambassadors, told The Scoop podcast in April 2023 that Swift was “the one person” that asked, “'Can you tell me that these are not  unregistered securities ?’” The question, and deciding to walk away from the deal, ultimately saved her from a  costly lawsuit  involving celebrities such as Tom Brady, Shaquille O’Neal, and Larry Davis.

What is taylor swift's net worth.

Taylor Swift is an American singer, songwriter and producer who has a net worth of $1 billion. Despite what you may have read, Taylor Swift was NOT a billionaire when several publications made that claim in late 2023.  Per our original projections, Taylor became a billionaire in late May 2024, roughly halfway through the European leg of her "Eras" tour.

Taylor Swift is arguably the most famous person on the planet and easily the most powerful celebrity in the world. As of this writing, Swift has sold over 200 million albums worldwide. She has also embarked on a number of extremely successful world tours. Her "Eras" tour is on pace to generate $2 billion globally, which would make it the most successful musical tour of all time. In October 2023, Taylor released a film version of the tour to AMC theaters. The film grossed $260 million. Thanks to her negotiated 50% cut of first dollar gross, Taylor earned $130 million from the ticket sales. She then earned $75 million a few months later, selling the streaming rights exclusively to Disney for a total payday of $205 million. Between concert ticket sales, merchandise, and movie theater ticket sales, Taylor will personally net between $500 and $600 million from the Eras tour. If that happens, Taylor's net worth will indeed hit billionaire status. Before she embarked on the tour, Taylor's net worth was $600 million. With the Disney deal and revenue generated from the first leg of the North American tour in February 2024, we updated her net worth to $900 million.

Taylor Swift was discovered at age 15 by future music mogul Scott Borchetta while performing at a Nashville cafe. Borchetta signed Taylor as the first artist under his newly-formed Big Machine Records. Fast forward to the present, and Taylor is one of the most popular and most successful entertainers on the planet. As we detail later in this article, Taylor Swift owns over $150 million worth of real estate in the United States alone. She also makes tens of millions of dollars every year from endorsements with companies like Capital One, Diet Coke, AT&T, and CoverGirl.

Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in West Reading, Pennsylvania. She's named after musician James Taylor . She spent her early years with her parents, Scott and Andrea, and her brother, Austin, living on a Christmas tree farm. She attended a Montessori school for preschool and kindergarten and moved to The Wyndcroft School for first grade. When Taylor was nine, she got interested in musical theatre. She also enrolled in vocal and acting lessons in New York City. She first got into country music because she was a fan of Shania Twain . She performed at local events and festivals as a tween and teen. Eventually, she became convinced she needed to go to Nashville, and she and her mom went and submitted Taylor's early demo of Dolly Parton and The Chicks covers. Record labels didn't think she was original enough, and Taylor left Nashville without a record deal.

When she was 12, she learned how to play the guitar. She soon wrote "Lucky You." When Swift was 14, her family moved to Nashville to give her a better chance of breaking into music. Swift started working with music manager Dan Dymtrow in 2003. He was instrumental in getting Swift a modeling gig for the "Rising Stars" campaign by Abercrombie & Fitch and got one of her original songs included on a compilation CD from Maybelline. After performing her original songs at a showcase for RCA Records, Swift was signed to an artist development deal.

A year after signing with Big Machine Records, Swift released her first single, " Tim McGraw ," which preceded her first self-titled studio album release. Taylor Swift reached the number five position on the U.S. Billboard 200 but obtained the number one spot on the U.S. Country Music chart. The album produced two number-one hit singles, "Our Song" and "Should've Said No". To date, her first album has been certified platinum more than four times by the RIAA. Swift's second album, Fearless, peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard, U.S. Country, New Zealand, and Canadian music charts. It has been certified platinum in four countries, six times in the USA alone, and also produced two number-one singles, "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me." She has performed with music artists such as John Mayer , Justin Bieber, and Faith Hill . Among Swift's many accolades are dozens upon dozens of American Music Awards, Grammy Awards, and 23 Billboard Music Awards.

Swift has made several television and film appearances, both as herself on "Saturday Night Live" and "Dateline NBC" and in fictionalized roles on shows and in movies like "Valentine's Day," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," and "Hannah Montana: The Movie." Additionally, Swift has appeared in many popular publications, including Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and Rolling Stone.

In late 2020, Swift dropped two surprise albums, "Folklore" in August, which debuted at the top of the charts, and "Evermore" in December, which also garnered widespread acclaim. "Folklore" was the best-selling album of 2020 in the U.S. with 1.2 million copies and won Album of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, making Swift the first woman to win the award three times. Her 10th studio album, "Midnights," was released in October 2022, and many publications called it a classic and her best work yet. The lead single, "Anti-Hero," became Spotify's most-streamed song in one day. Taylor became the first artist in history to monopolize the Hot 100's entire top 10. In March 2023, she embarked on "The Eras Tour," which broke the record for most concert tickets ever sold in a single day. The "Eras" tour eventually grossed more than $2 billion, which made it the highest-grossing concert of all time.

taylor swift net worth biography

In 2008, Swift dated Joe Jonas for three months. In 2010, she dated Taylor Lautner for a period. That same year, she also briefly dated Jake Gyllenhaal . Taylor dated DJ Calvin Harris in 2015. That same year, she dated actor Tom Hiddleston . In November 2012, she started dating Harry Styles . Over the 2012-2013 winter holidays, Taylor and Harry went to the British Virgin Islands together and were done soon after they returned, allegedly because they were both busy and never in one place for long. She also dated John Mayer briefly but long enough to write the song "Dear John" about him. Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn dated from 2017 to 2023.

In September 2023, Taylor was rumored to be dating NFL player Travis Kelce . The relationship was confirmed on September 24, 2023, when Taylor attended one of Travis' games in a box, sitting next to his mom and cheering loudly.

Endorsements and Earnings

Between June 2016 and June 2017, Taylor earned around $50 million. There have been several years where Swift has made more than $150 million off album sales, touring, merchandise, and endorsements. For example, thanks largely to the massively successful 1989 world tour, Taylor earned $170 million between June 2015 and June 2016. Between June 2018 and June 2019, Taylor earned $185 million from her empire thanks largely to her "Reputation" stadium tour, which grossed $266 million. Between June 2019 and June 2020, she earned $64 million.

During her career, Taylor has partnered with hundreds of companies for endorsements and partnerships. Some of her partnership companies include AT&T, CoverGirl, Verizon Wireless, Diet Coke, Keds, AirAsia, Qantas, Sony Electronics, Target, and Capital One.

In October 2023, Taylor released a film version of her North American "Eras" tour. Before releasing the film version, she struck a deal with AMC where it would be the exclusive distributor of the film, and with Taylor earning an unprecedented 50% of first-dollar-gross from the ticket sales . The Eras concert film earned $96 million in its first weekend alone. It ultimately generated around $260 million. Taylor's cut of that was 50%, $130 million.

In February 2024, Taylor sold the exclusive streaming rights to the concert tour movie to Disney for $75 million. When combined with her movie ticket sales, Taylor's concert movie payday surpassed $205 million.

Republic Records Deal and Departure from Big Machine

Taylor produced six albums for Big Machine Records between 2006 and 2017. When her deal with Big Machine was up for renewal in 2018, we learned that her relationship with the company and its founder, Scott Borchetta, had become quite strained. Taylor's primary goal in the negotiation was to gain control of her first six albums. Borchetta reportedly offered her a deal in which she would gain control of her old albums one at a time upon releasing new albums for many years to come. Taylor, who knew that Borchetta was looking to sell his company, would later explain that she did not want to be sold off to a new company. She ultimately chose to walk away from Big Machine and her back catalog and signed a new long-term deal with Republic Records, an imprint of Universal Music. The new deal came with two notable stipulations: 1) She owns all of her master recordings from here on out. 2) She gets a larger cut of profits from her music sales. Furthermore, if Universal ever sells its $1 billion stake in Spotify, Taylor will receive a large cut.

Taylor Swift's real estate portfolio is quite impressive. She owns roughly $150 million worth of real estate around the United States.

Nashville: In 2009, when she was just 19 years old, Taylor paid $2 million for a condo in downtown Nashville. Later that same year, she paid around $400k for the 1-br unit downstairs. Today, these two units are worth a combined $4 million.

In 2011, she spent $2.5 million on an 8,000-square-foot mansion on six acres in the suburbs of Nashville. Today, this estate is worth at least $6 million.

Rhode Island: Taylor Swift's house in Rhode Island is an 11,000-square-foot mansion called High Watch. Situated on 5.2 acres overlooking the water, Swift bought the mansion in 2013 for $17.75 million. Today, the home is worth around $30 million. Before she paid $17.75 million in 2013, it had previously been listed for $24 million. The eight-bedroom, ten-and-a-half-bath house rests 65 feet above Little Narragansett Bay and was built in 1930. Inside, there is a 45-foot sun room, a massive kitchen with an attached family room with its own fireplace, and an equally impressive dining room. The bedrooms are all large, and the majority of them have their own bathroom or bathrooms. There is also a roof terrace, a wet bar, and a recreation space on the lower level that opens to the beach. The list of amenities goes on and on and includes multiple balconies, a pool, a fitness room, and a five-car garage. Here are two photos of Taylor Swift's Rhode Island mansion:

New York City: Taylor owns $50 million worth of apartments in New York City . Her Manhattan footprint started in 2014 when she bought a penthouse in Tribeca that she eventually transformed into a 10-bedroom duplex that today is likely worth north of $20 million on its own. In 2017, she bought the 100-year-old four-story penthouse next to the duplex for $12.5 million. In February 2018, she spent $10 million on another condo in her original building.

Los Angeles: In 2011, Taylor paid $3.55 million for a 1.5-acre property in Beverly Hills. She sold this property in 2018 for $4 million. In 2012, she paid $1.77 million for another Beverly Hills mansion. She sold this property in 2018 for $2.65 million.

In September 2015 Taylor paid $25 million for a Beverly Hills mansion that decades earlier was the home of producer Samuel Goldwyn. Taylor performed a massive renovation and restoration. Today, based on comparable recent sales, this estate is worth at least $70 million.

Massachusetts: Taylor Swift's house in Hyannisport, Massachusetts, is considered part of the Kennedy compound. A massive seven-bedroom home with stunning views of the nearby ocean, the house originally went on sale for $13.5 million in 2010. In addition to the view and the number of bedrooms, the home also features high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows in almost every room, hardwood floors, private beach access, a vast expanse of lawn, and fenced-in verandah access directly from the lower rooms of the house.

The asking price was cut in half in 2011. Taylor snapped it up for $4.9 million in the summer of 2012. At the time of her purchase, she was dating Conor Kennedy , a grandchild of Robert F. Kennedy . She sold the home just a few months after purchasing it for $5.675 million.

Ka-ching! Taylor Swift lands on Forbes' World's Billionaires list with $1.1B net worth

If Taylor Swift still has a "Blank Space," she can write in a dollar sign now.

The pop superstar, who reached billionaire status in October , landed on Forbes' World’s Billionaires list , the business magazine shared Tuesday. Among other celeb billionaires who made the cut – including Rihanna , Kim Kardashian , Oprah Winfrey and "Star Wars" creator George Lucas – Swift was ranked at No. 14 with a net worth of $1.1 billion.

Lucas topped the celebrity billionaires list with a whopping net worth of $5.5 billion.

However, Swift has made history with her economic achievement. The "Is It Over Now?" singer is the first person to reach billionaire status "based solely on songwriting and performing," according to Forbes.

Channel 13 (Taylor's Version): Taylor Swift gets her own SiriusXM station

“I think what’s really interesting is the proliferation of self-made billionaires,” Grace Chung, senior editor at Forbes magazine, told the Nashville Tennessean (part of the USA TODAY network) of Swift's distinction. “To be a self-made woman, not just an heir that inherited her wealth, is really exciting to see and also see it grow.”

Swift had a lucrative 2023, thanks in large part to her record-breaking Eras Tour , which became the first tour in history to earn more than $1 billion. The global trek, which Chung said makes up approximately 45% of Swift's net worth, took in an estimated ticket gross of $1.04 billion in 2023 from 4.35 million tickets sold, according to  music industry trade publication Pollstar .

Swift's U.S. concerts added an estimated $4.3 billion to the country’s gross domestic product in 2023, Bloomberg reported in October .

A concert film of the tour, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," opened at the box office in October with earnings of $92.8 million. Within days, it became the highest-grossing concert film ever in North America, not accounting for inflation.

'It's completely up to you': Taylor Swift wins artist of the year at iHeartRadio Awards

The singer's expanding music catalog has also added to her wealth. In 2019, Swift released "Lover," the  first album she owned  after the masters to her first six albums were purchased by Scooter Braun via his acquisition of Big Machine Label Group. She has re-released four "Taylor's Version" editions of those albums since then, including "1989," " Fearless ," " Red " and " Speak Now ."

“After her first six albums, she singed that lucrative distribution deal with Universal Music (Group), which gave her monetary control over her work,” Chung said. “That’s something very few artists have.”

Swift's billionaire ranking follows a big night at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday. The singer, who was not in attendance, took home six awards, including artist of the year.

"I wanted to say thank you so much to anyone who voted for this award," said Swift in a recorded video. "To the fans, it's completely up to you to choose how you spend your time, what concerts you want to go to, what music do you want to make the soundtrack to your life, and to anyone who has included me in those choices, I'm so so so thankful for that."

Pop music supernova Taylor Swift has officially joined the three-comma club, Bloomberg News reports . On the eve of the release of 1989 TV —and amid a record-breaking tour and box office bonanza—the singer-songwriter’s net worth sits at an estimated $1.1 billion.

Bloomberg’s analysis takes into account the estimated value of Swift’s music catalog and her five homes, as well as earnings from streaming, music sales, and concerts. The news outlet says the calculation is likely conservative and is based “only on assets and earnings that could be confirmed or traced from publicly disclosed figures.” Swift did not respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.

The bulk of her wealth is tied to her impressive catalog, which Bloomberg values at $400 million. (And that’s the music she’s released since 2019—the music she made before that is now held by Shamrock Holdings. If all of her music is included, the value reaches $1 billion on its own, per Bloomberg.) Another $370 million is tied to ticket sales and merchandise, while Spotify and YouTube earnings account for $120 million, and her five homes are valued at $110 million. It is possible she has other sources of wealth that are not public.

“She’s one of the few entertainers to reach that status based on music and performing alone, the result of work and talent, but also canny marketing and timing,” Bloomberg notes.

The world’s ‘most charismatic CEO’

Speculation on when, not if, Swift would officially crossover into billionaire-dom has abounded since the Eras Tour kicked off with unprecedented demand for tickets . The tour itself, which is currently slated to run through the end of 2024, is set to rack in well over $1 billion in ticket sales , much of which makes its way to Swift.

The Eras Tour has worked as something of a marketing machine for her other projects. While many artists make most of their money off of touring, Swift is the rare musician who also makes a significant amount from digital and physical music sales . Her devoted fan base makes sure of that (her most recent release, Speak Now TV , debuted in the midst of the tour and sold 716,000 copies, including nearly 270,000 on vinyl LP ).

And with the fourth re-record of her first six studio albums set to release Friday, the 33-year-old is bringing in even more money. Analysts expect 1989 TV to be one of the biggest albums of the year in terms of sales.

But Swift, never one to settle for just one or two projects at a time, is also benefitting from movie ticket sales. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has brought in around $165 million at the worldwide box office in the past two weeks, thanks to support from fans and other moviegoers curious to get a taste of the Eras Tour for themselves. That makes it the highest-grossing concert tour movie of all time.

Bloomberg also credits Swift’s billionaire status, partly, to her shrewd negotiations around streaming. The pop star took her music off Spotify in 2014—when the original 1989 was released—demanding the company compensate artists better for their work. She took Apple to task a few years later, resulting in changes at both streamers.

Swift’s Eras Tour was a boon not just to the singer, but to the cities she performed in. The Eras Tour added $4.3 billion to the U.S.’s gross domestic product throughout the first 53 shows, according to estimates from Bloomberg Economics. She even got a shoutout from the U.S. Federal Reserve.

“Taken together, Swift Inc. is essentially a multinational conglomerate with the world’s most devoted customer base, its most charismatic CEO and significant economic power,” Bloomberg writes.

Last year, Billboard estimated that the Swift grossed approximately $1.82 billion in music sales and royalties, concert tickets, merchandise sales at concerts and movie ticket sales in 2023 through Dec. 7. Billboard  calculated music royalties based on data from Luminate, concert ticket sales using publicly available information and her concert merchandise revenue was estimated based on Billboard’s reporting.

Swift’s  The Eras Tour  generated approximately  $900 million in ticket sales in 2023 . That figure is based on  Billboard ’s estimate that Swift sold 3.3 million tickets to 53 concerts in the U.S. at about $250 per ticket. An additional 13 shows in Latin America likely earned another $60 million to $75 million from 750,000 ticket. At those concerts, Swift sold an estimated concert merchandise sales of $132 million of merchandise. Her per-show average merchandise sales at roughly $2 million, based on  Billboard ’s reporting.

What is Taylor Swift's net worth?

By Megan Cerullo

Edited By Aimee Picchi , Anne Marie Lee

Updated on: February 9, 2024 / 10:40 PM EST / CBS News

Taylor Swift is a self-made billionaire , having generated tremendous wealth almost exclusively off of her music. Other hyper successful pop stars and celebrities have generated lucrative streams income through brand partnerships or product lines that have nothing to do with their art, but have catapulted them to billionaire status.

Swift's income streams include revenue from her  concert tour ticket sales , music catalog, streaming deals and record sales. She also owns numerous pricey properties across the U.S. Both Bloomberg and Forbes pin her net worth at an estimated $1.1 billion on the low end, based on analyses of her fortune.

Swift first achieved billionaire status in October when she released a re-recording of her nine-year-old album "1989," Bloomberg reported. Her wealth is powered by her legions of loyal fans, whose spending on all things Swift-related make the pop star an economic engine on her own, bringing tourist dollars to the cities in which she performs.

The U.S. Travel Association estimates  her Eras Tour generated more than $5 billion for local economies in the U.S. alone. Since she began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Swift has even  boosted the NFL's number of fans and Americans' spending on football .

Here's how Taylor Swift's wealth breaks down

In addition to being a uniquely talented musical artist, Swift is an exceptionally savvy business person who has expertly managed her brand from the beginning of her career, according to industry analysts.

"At the time of her debut album 2006, musical physicals, meaning CD and vinyl sales, had been wiped out, so the name of game was to create enough music that was worth touring," labor economist Carolyn Sloane, who teaches a "Rockonomics" course at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy, told CBS MoneyWatch.

Sloane added, "She set herself up early on to do that successfully by establishing herself as a great songwriter and storyteller. She had a vision of what it would take to be compelling on the road."

While her most lucrative revenue stream has been income from her live concert tours, she has also maximized her earnings through other avenues, such as sync licenses, which refer to the deals that are struck when her songs are matched to visuals, like in movies or commercials.

Concert revenue

Live performances are the greatest income generator for Swift, who is in the midst of her Eras Tour, the highest grossing music tour of all time and  the first to cross the billion dollar mark  at the end of 2023, according to Pollstar.  Bloomberg estimates she has earned at least $370 million from touring over the course of her career as a musical artist.

Her Eras Tour continues, with Swift slated to perform 151 shows across five continents before it concludes.

Swift has shrewdly priced tickets to her concerts, being careful not to alienate fans but to also not miss out on profits by undercharging for live shows.

"We consistently see other artists underpricing tours and leaving so much money on the table because the secondary market is profitable," Sloane said. "Taylor is pricing much closer to market demand than her peer artists, and she has an authenticity and level of trust with her fans that allow her to do that."

In other words, Swift is capitalizing on every moment she spend in the public eye "to make it count for her business and try to bring money back for herself and the people who work for her," Sloane said.

Streaming deals

Swift is estimated to have earned $175 million through her contracts with music streamers including Spotify, Apple Music and others, according to Bloomberg's estimate. The deals make her array of original songs available to the services' subscribers.

Music catalog

In 2019, Swift feuded with Scooter Braun, owner of her former label, Big Machine Records, over the ownership of the masters of her first six albums. She subsequently re-recorded and released new versions of her earlier work to reclaim ownership of her songs. Her music catalog is worth an estimated $400 million, according to Bloomberg.

"Taylor Swift's catalog of music reigns supreme in both the digital and terrestrial radio formats, seemingly amassing an average of over 4 billion streams and 1.2 billion in airplay impressions per quarter in the U.S. alone during 2022 and 2023," Alex Heiche, CEO and founder of Sound Royalties, told CBS MoneyWatch.

Her re-records, plus a forthcoming album will only increase the value of her catalog in the future.

"The ongoing demand for her music across all platforms is fueled by strategic re-recordings of albums, a catalog-spanning Eras tour, and her pop culture presence," he added.

Music sales

Swift has earned an estimated $80 million in royalties form record sales, according to Bloomberg.

While physical album sales have diminished as a moneymaker for artists, Swift hasn't discounted or overlooked the category as a means of bringing in cash.

In 2022, she released her 10th album, "Midnights," in vinyl with different colors and at different price points. Diehard fans could collect all four, which could be placed together to form a wall clock.

"Taylor Swift's ability to leverage streaming platforms while maintaining a strong physical sales presence creates a unique financial advantage," Heiche said.

Property values

Swift owns both a condo and estate in Nashville, Tennessee, plus second, third and fourth homes. She has an estate in Los Angeles, an apartment in New York City's TriBeCa neighborhood and a seaside summer home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

Combined, the real estate adds an estimated $110 million to the singer's net worth, after taking taxes and property management costs into consideration.

Why Taylor Swift Is Forbes ’ Second Richest Woman in Music

Thanks in part to the success of her Eras tour.

preview for Taylor Swift’s Iconic Career Evolution

Taylor Swift is in the midst of one of her biggest years in music with her Eras tour, the release of Midnights, and her upcoming releases of her re-recorded albums Speak Now (Taylor's Version), out July 7 , and 1989 (Taylor's Version) , which is heavily teased to be coming after. Make no mistake: Swift has brought in a lot of money from this, but she is not the richest female musician on Forbes ' 2023 list , released yesterday.

That honor goes to Rihanna, who despite having not released a new album since 2016, has reached billionaire status with her businesses Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty. Swift's net worth is estimated to be $740 million, with Swift adding $170 million to her net worth from her tour so far and Midnights . Rihanna's, meanwhile, is worth $1.4 billion, with the outlet noting the bulk of that fortune comes from Fenty Beauty, which she co-owns with LVMH.

Swift's fortune will continue to grow as she does more tour dates, so her net worth will likely be higher on 2024's list.

But it's Oprah, who has a staggering net worth of $2.5 billion, who leads Forbes' list of the richest “self-made” women. Kim Kardashian is ranked third, right after Rihanna and before Swift, with a $1.2 billion estimated net worth thanks to the success of her shapewear line, Skims.

Swift hasn't acknowledged Forbes' report . Her social media has instead been focused on her fans and tour. Her last post reflected on her Memorial Day weekend shows in New Jersey.

She wrote , “Yeahhhh so the last three nights were a dreamscape and totally overwhelming. I love every single one of you who came to those 3 shows in Jersey, all 217,625 of you.😆 @phoebebridgers, I’ll miss you out here my dude, thanks for the duets and the dressing room heart to hearts 💕. I was so excited to welcome @owennmusic to the Eras Tour! And @icespice i love youuuu and I’m still buzzing from getting to sing with you all three nights! This tour has become my entire personality. See you soon Chicago!”

If you haven't been paying attention to Taylor Swift this year, she's got "a lot going on at the moment." In fact, she's even fueling a boost to the economy. Bloomberg estimates her tour alone has added $4.3 billion to the country's gross domestic product (or the monetary value of goods and services).

It seems like everything she touches turns to gold—even if she's not directly involved in a Taylor-themed product, it's still practically guaranteed to become a moneymaker. Most recently, that includes a cruise. The liner called "In My Cruise Era" will set sail from Miami in October 2024, a day after the singer's last Eras Tour stop in the city, per PEOPLE .

The expedition, which is run through Marvelous Mouse Travels , is not endorsed or affiliated with Taylor, but it will certainly inspire spending. There are three levels of ticket pricing for a two-guest cabin, which range from $1,573 to $1,967. The middle tier, which costs $1,851, is already sold out.

As for Taylor herself, it's honestly hard to keep track of all of her accolades lately. Not only has the "Bejeweled" singer boosted the NFL's viewership and Travis Kelce's jersey sales, Bloomberg reports, but she's also taken over cinemas everywhere with her Eras Tour concert film and the music charts with 1989 (Taylor's Version) .

On top of embarking on the most successful tour of her career, and possibly of all time, she's released two albums, had several #1 single (one with a song from four years ago ), and attended so many football games. This year is truly every Swiftie's " Wildest Dreams " come true.

You may be wondering how her hard work impacts her wallet (spoiler: she's loaded). Below, here's everything to know about Taylor's wealth, from her current net worth to her various revenue streams. Are you ready for it?

What is Taylor Swift's total net worth?

Taylor’s total net worth is $1.1 billion, according to Bloomberg News (which the publication states is a conservative estimate). Forbes , who estimated her net worth at around $740 million earlier in June 2023, reports that the " Shake It Off " singer is personally pocketing around $13 million per stop on The Eras Tour.

Taylor currently outpaces Ariana Grande , Britney Spears , and Adele on the cash front, and is currently ranked as #34 on Forbes ' America's Richest Self-Made Women list, behind only Rihanna , as highest-paid from a career in music.

How much has Taylor Swift earned from The Eras Tour movie?

ICYDK, Taylor recently brought her tour to the big screen—and it's raking in the dough. Tickets to her concert were super hard to come by (some sold for as much as $18,400 ), but now, fans can watch her tour from the comfort of a theater. And so far, the Eras Tour concert film has earned almost $130 million at the domestic box office, according to CNBC .

What's more: The "Anti-Hero" singer took a unique approach in distributing her film, which will probably mean more money in her pocket later. Taylor personally produced the film entirely on her own for about $15 million, per The New York Times.

Its release is conveniently placed in a barren fall movie release schedule, according to DEADLINE . The AMC site experienced an influx of sales before the film even released, and according to a recent press release , the company even bolstered its site capacity by more than five times to meet demands.

Buy Your Tickets Here

Instead of enlisting a Hollywood studio to market or distribute the film, Taylor made a deal directly with AMC Entertainment. This move set Taylor up to receive around 57 percent of the total ticket revenue directly, with the remainder going to AMC, according to The New York Times .

Plus, streamers are already fighting over where the film will live after its theatrical run, according to The Hollywood Reporter .

She's earning bank from merchandise, too.

Unlike most famous women in her industry, Taylor hasn't created any lines of beauty products (although I'm sure they'd sell out instantly if she did). However, she does periodically drop merchandise connected to her music (including the infamous album-themed cardigans that began with folklore ).

Screaming, Crying, Perfect Storms Baby T-Shirt

Screaming, Crying, Perfect Storms Baby T-Shirt

At the moment, Taylor has lots of holiday-themed products on her website—including ornaments and even a snow globe . It's unclear how much cash Taylor rakes in from her merch alone, but Bloomberg estimates that the " Karma " queen has earned around $370 million from Eras Tour merchandise and ticket sales.

Her stuff also sells out pretty quickly. While there are plenty of products to choose from ATM, there aren't any cardigans currently available on her website. As with anything that involves Taylor, it's in high demand. For example, after her most recent merchandise drop, searches for "Taylor Swift ornaments" went up by 1150 percent, according to Venture Smarter .

Taylor's Eras Tour is on track to make $1 billion.

Her latest Eras Tour, a 20-month, stadium-only tour across the United States, Canada, and Europe, is the crowning jewel in Taylor's long history of *major* icon moments. The show spans nearly three and a half hours, highlights her greatest (44, to be exact) hits, and has an ever-growing list of celebrity guests (from Ice Spice to Travis Kelce and Karlie Kloss ). You can probably guess that it's also raking in a lot of dough.

taylor swift the eras tour mexico city, mexico

Taylor's tour just wrapped up its Argentina leg, but it's far from over . She'll continue to perform in South America throughout November, and then move on to Asia, Australia, and Europe in 2024. Plus, she'll come back to North America and hit cities like New Orleans, Indianapolis, and Toronto, Canada to (possibly) wrap up her tour.

Taylor's latest Eras "era" is by far her most successful, and is blowing Reputation out of the water. In January, Midnights had already sold 1.9 million copies, per Billboard . She also just became the first female artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify, per Variety .

Bloomberg estimated that the average Eras ticket cost around $254, which brings the average ticket sale earnings to about $13 million each night. From March to June, Taylor grossed an estimated $300 million, per Pollstar . And it's now on track to break $1 billion, and it's well on its way to being the highest grossing tour of all time, per Forbes and NBC .

For context, Bruce Springsteen's latest tour clocked around $142 million after 36 dates, but, considering her nightly revenue, Taylor is well on her way to the top spot. Pollstar estimates that "Eras" will surpass that billion mark by the time Taylor performs in Singapore in March 2024. No artist has ever grossed such a massive amount from a single tour, according to Bloomberg .

Taylor made tons on the Reputation Tour, too.

If you think Tay's current tour is reaching unprecedented success, you'd be correct. However , she's well-seasoned in putting on a great show. Taylor’s Reputation Stadium Tour sold out (of course), and she earned $191.1 million during the U.S. leg, according to the Grammy website.

With that, she broke her own record of being the woman with the highest-grossing U.S. tour (she raked in about $250 million for her 1989 World Tour, per the Los Angeles Times ). Overall, the tour raked in $345 million, according to Billboard .

Taylor shares her earnings with those close to her.

Like, she legit gave over $55 million in bonuses to everyone working on her Eras tour—including dancers, riggers, technicians, and caterers, per PEOPLE , and TMZ reported that she gifted $100,000 bonus checks to each trucker on the tour. Karma is truly taking all of her friends to the summit!

She's also dished out tons of charitable donations throughout her first leg of the Eras Tour. In Seattle, Taylor sent an undisclosed sum to the Food Lifeline food bank, which she's also reportedly done in several other cities across the U.S.

night one of taylor swift the eras tour east rutherford, nj

“They’ve asked us not to share the number with you, but I can tell you that the donation will provide several thousand pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables to our more than 400 food banks across Western Washington," a spokesperson for the charity told KIRO-7 News .

Plus, Taylor's tour is also boosting local economies by increasing tourism and spending at each of its stops, according to the Wall Street Journal . For example, Chicago and Minneapolis reached record-breaking capacity in their hotels during their Eras Tour weekends.

She had a comfortable childhood.

Despite the living room dancing and kitchen table bills she sings about, Taylor didn't start out with nothing. In fact, she had a pretty good leg up thanks to her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift. Her dad works for Merrill Lynch , and she grew up in a nice house in Pennsylvania before her family relocated to another nice house in Nashville to help her pursue her music career.

She scores big on album sales.

Yup, Taylor broke onto the music scene in 2006 with "Tim McGraw," and she didn’t waste any time churning out hit after hit over the ensuing 17 years. In fact, Taylor’s had a record-making 12 albums release at No.1 on the charts. Taylor's latest rerelease, 1989 (Taylor's Version) sat comfortably on the top of the Billboard top 200 chart and sold 1,653,000 in sales—outselling its original version and becoming the most successful release of Taylor's career thus far. According to CNBC , those include:

  • Fearless (2008): 242,000 equivalent album units
  • Speak Now (2010): 1.047 million equivalent album units
  • Red (2012): 1.208 million equivalent album units
  • 1989 (2014): 1.287 million equivalent album units
  • reputation (2017) : 1.216 million equivalent album units
  • Lover (2019) : 867,000 equivalent album units
  • folklore (2021) : 846,000 equivalent album units
  • evermore (2021) : 329,000 equivalent album units
  • Midnights (2022) : 1.578 million equivalent album units
  • Fearless (Taylor's Version) (2021) : 291,000 equivalent album units
  • Red (Taylor's Version) (2021) : 605,000 equivalent album units
  • Speak Now (Taylor's Version) (2023) : 716,000 equivalent album units
  • 1989 (Taylor's Version) (2023) : 1,653,000 equivalent album units

At the end of 2022, she became the first artist to claim the Billboard Top 100's entire top 10 songs in a single frame, per Billboard . And every one of the songs was from her newest album, Midnights .

Midnights actually marked the "biggest week for any [album] release in seven years," Billboard reported, and she now holds the record for the most top 10s for female artists in the chart’s history, passing Barbra Streisand, who has 11.

Plus, two of Taylor's more recent albums, Red (Taylor's Version) and evermore , are ranked as some of the bestselling vinyl albums of all time, per Forbes .

She’s made other documentaries and short films .

Taylor created a concert film for Netflix during her Reputation tour as well, which reportedly made her millions (the exact amount wasn’t disclosed, though). She also released the documentary Miss Americana in 2020 with Netflix, and Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions with Disney Plus.

Last year, Taylor released All Too Well: The Short Film , which was a short film adaptation of her single “All Too Well.” The film won three separate awards—including a Grammy for Best Music Video, per IMDb .

She's willing to fight for fair royalties.

1989 (Taylor's Version ) is obviously not a one-off endeavor. Taylor is currently re-recording her earlier catalogue to regain the rights to her own music. In 2019, Scooter Braun bought Swift's masters (and later sold them to Shamrock Holdings in 2020), meaning Taylor does not get a cut of revenue from streams or sales of her original six albums.

In 2021, she released two re-recorded albums Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version), making Speak Now (Taylor's Version) her third re-recording in 2023. After her release of 1989 (Taylor's Version) , she will only have Reputation (Taylor's Version) and her debut album, Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) to complete.

By doing this, Taylor reclaims ownership of her work and gets royalties from those albums. According to Billboard , Taylor's latest project has definitely paid off. Her Taylor's Version albums have outperformed their originals in nearly every way.

Taylor has also advocated for fair rights for artists from streamers themselves. In 2015, Taylor released her infamous Apple Music Letter which called out the company for unfair royalty payments to its artists. She announced she would not be streaming her original 1989 album on the platform, and Apple Music quickly updated their policy.

She also completely pulled her catalogue from Spotify in 2014 (and later added it back in 2017), likely for the same reasons, per Insider . It isn't clear exactly how much Taylor earns from streaming, but considering her advocacy, it seems like she's at least getting a fair paycheck.

Taylor has also starred in movies.

Taylor has appeared (or voiced a character) in several movies: Amsterdam , Cats , The Giver , The Lorax , and Valentine's Day , to name a few. Her salaries for these roles have not been disclosed, but I'd imagine they were pretty hefty. It also appears she has her sights on directing a feature film of her own at some point in the future, per Variety .

Her f olklore and e vermore albums helped her make $23.8 million in 2020.

In 2020, Taylor got to work on some new music, pulling out all the creative stops to rocket her net worth even higher. She netted $23.8 million from sales that year, almost all generated from her albums f olklore and e vermore , per Billboard . And she wasn't even on tour!

She does a lot of endorsements.

Taylor has put her name on plenty of big brands . Those include:

  • Capital One
  • Coca-Cola (remember that commercial?)

Taylor has a private jet.

It's worth $40 million and has the number "13" painted on the side, per Insider . She reportedly spent a total of 15.9 days in the air in 2022, per National World .

She also owns a lot of nice real estate.

Taylor’s got plenty of places she can call home, but she famously spends quite a good deal of time in Manhattan. She's literally got songs that reference the city like " Cornelia Street ," " Welcome to New York, " etc.

As of 2020, Taylor owned seven different properties in four states, according to the Wall Street Journal , and her whole portfolio included real estate in:

  • NYC (~ $45 million ): She's basically on track to own an entire apartment building in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood.
  • Nashville ( $10.5 million ): Taylor actually owns two properties in Nashville—a strip of luxury apartments and The Northumberland Estate, a 7,700 square-foot home that her mother, Andrea, reportedly lives in.
  • Massachusetts: Back in 2012, when she was dating Conor Kennedy, Taylor purchased a seven-bedroom house in Cape Cod for $4.8 million. After the pair split, she sold the property for $5.675 in 2013.
  • Rhode Island (currently estimated at $30 million ): If you recall, this is the "Holiday House" that inspired the song " last great american dynasty ." She allegedly bought this home in cash–for $ 17.75 million , per TMZ .
  • California (around $70 million): In 2018, Taylor sold her Beverly Hills cottage for $4 million and her other Beverly Hills home for $2.65 million. She does still have a huge 1934 mansion in the area that is worth around $70 million, per the Wall Street Journal .

Taylor Swift is worth a lot more than boyfriend Travis Kelce.

Sorry, NFL fans. Taylor's wide-ranging gigs have earned her a pretty hefty net worth that definitely outshines the Kansas City Chiefs' tight end 's stash of cash. Fact: Taylor earns her boo's yearly salary in one single night on the Eras Tour, according to Yahoo Finance .

Still, Travis is no slouch. He's worth around $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth . He's also one of the highest-paid players for his position, according to Yahoo Finance . He also recently purchased a $6 million mansion for more privacy while dating Taylor, TMZ reported.

Travis' NFL salary is reportedly around $14 million a year, per Celebrity Net Worth. While the tight end has said in the past he thinks he's underpaid , he's also quite busy with different endorsement deals, and New Heights , a podcast he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce .

Anyways. Best believe Taylor is bejeweled . The star is already a billionaire, and "Eras" is swiftly becoming the best-selling tour of all time.

Taylor Swift has been one of the most influential artists in contemporary music since she was named the best new artist by the Country Music Association in 2007. In 2023 she was named Spotify’s most-played artist, and in 2024 she became the only person ever to win the  Grammy Award for album of the year four times.

Where is Taylor Swift from?

Taylor Swift was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania. When she was 13, her parents sold their family farm in Pennsylvania and moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee, so she could pursue a career in country music in nearby Nashville.

In 2004, at age 14, Taylor Swift signed a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV, thereby becoming the youngest signing in the company’s history. In 2006 Swift signed with Big Machine Records and scored her first Top 40 hit with “Tim McGraw.” She then released four more singles and a self-titled album that quickly sold more than one million copies. In 2007 she was named best new artist by the Country Music Association.

Recent News

Taylor Swift (born December 13, 1989, West Reading , Pennsylvania, U.S.) is a multitalented singer-songwriter and global superstar who has captivated audiences with her heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies, solidifying herself as one of the most influential artists in contemporary music. In 2024 she made history when she won the Grammy Award for album of the year for Midnights (2022), becoming the first artist to win in that category four times.

Swift showed an interest in music at an early age, and she progressed quickly from roles in children’s theater to her first appearance before a crowd of thousands. She was age 11 when she sang “ The Star-Spangled Banner ” before a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game, and the following year she picked up the guitar and began to write songs. Taking her inspiration from country music artists such as Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks ), Swift crafted original material that reflected her experiences of tween alienation. When she was 13, Swift’s parents sold their farm in Pennsylvania to move to Hendersonville, Tennessee , so she could devote more of her time to courting country labels in nearby Nashville .

Taylor Swift has been named Time ’s “Person of the Year” twice. Who appeared on the covers with her?

A development deal with RCA Records allowed Swift to make the acquaintance of recording-industry veterans, and in 2004, at age 14, she signed with Sony/ATV as a songwriter. At venues in the Nashville area, she performed many of the songs she had written, and it was at one such performance that she was noticed by record executive Scott Borchetta. Borchetta signed Swift to his fledgling Big Machine label, and her first single, “ Tim McGraw” (inspired by and prominently referencing a song by Swift’s favorite country artist ), was released in the summer of 2006.

The song was an immediate success, spending eight months on the Billboard country singles chart. Now age 16, Swift followed with a self-titled debut album, and she went on tour, opening for Rascal Flatts . Taylor Swift was certified platinum in 2007, having sold more than one million copies in the United States , and Swift continued a rigorous touring schedule, opening for artists such as George Strait , Kenny Chesney , Tim McGraw , and Faith Hill . That November Swift received the Horizon Award for best new artist from the Country Music Association (CMA), capping the year in which she emerged as country music’s most-visible young star.

On Swift’s second album, Fearless (2008), she demonstrated a refined pop sensibility, managing to court the mainstream pop audience without losing sight of her country roots. With sales of more than half a million copies in its first week, Fearless opened at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It ultimately spent more time atop that chart than any other album released that decade. Singles such as “ You Belong with Me” and “Love Story” were popular in the digital market as well, the latter accounting for more than four million paid downloads.

In 2009 Swift embarked on her first tour as a headliner, playing to sold-out venues across North America . That year also saw Swift dominate the industry award circuit. Fearless was recognized as album of the year by the Academy of Country Music in April, and she topped the best female video category for “You Belong with Me” at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in September. During her VMA acceptance speech, Swift was interrupted by rapper Kanye West , who protested that the award should have gone to Beyoncé for what he called “one of the best videos of all time.” Later in the program, when Beyoncé was accepting the award for video of the year, she invited Swift onstage to conclude her speech, a move that drew a standing ovation for both performers. At the CMA Awards that November, Swift won all four categories in which she was nominated. Her recognition as CMA entertainer of the year made her the youngest-ever winner of that award, as well as the first female solo artist to win since 1999. She began 2010 with an impressive showing at the Grammy Awards , where she collected four honors, including best country song, best country album, and the top prize of album of the year.

Later that year Swift made her feature-film debut in the romantic comedy Valentine’s Day and was named the new spokesperson for CoverGirl cosmetics. Although Swift avoided discussing her personal life in interviews, she was surprisingly frank in her music. Her third album, Speak Now (2010), was littered with allusions to romantic relationships with John Mayer , Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers , and Twilight series actor Taylor Lautner. Swift reclaimed the CMA entertainer of the year award in 2011, and the following year she won Grammys for best country solo performance and best country song for “ Mean,” a single from Speak Now .

Swift continued her acting career with a voice role in the animated Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (2012) before releasing her next collection of songs, Red (2012). While she remained focused on the vagaries of young love, her songwriting reflected a deepened perspective on the subject, and much of the album embraced a bold pop-rock sound. In its first week on sale in the United States, Red sold 1.2 million copies—the highest one-week total in 10 years. In addition, its lead single, the gleeful “ We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” gave Swift her first number-one hit on the Billboard pop singles chart.

In 2014 Swift released 1989 , an album titled after the year of her birth and reportedly inspired by the music of that era. Although Swift had already been steadily moving away from the traditional country signifiers that marked her early work—“I Knew You Were Trouble,” the second single from Red , even flirted with electronic dance music —she called 1989 her first “official pop album.” On the strength of the upbeat “ Shake It Off,” the album proved to be another blockbuster for Swift, its first-week sales surpassing those of Red . It went on to sell more than five million copies in the United States and earned Swift her second Grammy for album of the year. In 2014 Swift also appeared in a supporting role in The Giver , a film adaptation of Lois Lowry ’s dystopian novel for young readers.

In 2016 Swift’s feud with Kanye West resumed after he released the single “Famous.” The song included a lyric in which Swift was referred to as a “bitch,” and she alleged that it was misogynistic. The public spat escalated after West’s wife, Kim Kardashian , released a recording of a phone call in which Swift gave her approval for the line, though West made no mention of calling her a bitch. Swift’s controversies continued as she took part in a widely publicized civil trial in August 2017, after former radio host David Mueller sued the singer, her mother, and a promoter, claiming that Swift had falsely accused him of sexually groping her in 2013 during the taking of a photograph and thus destroyed his career. She countersued, maintaining that the assault had taken place. At the trial, Swift was removed from Mueller’s suit and the other two defendants were found not liable as the jury found in favor of Swift’s countersuit. Shortly thereafter Swift released the hit song “ Look What You Made Me Do,” and her album Reputation became the top-selling American LP of 2017.

In 2018 Swift left Big Machine and signed with Republic Records and Universal Music Group. The following year her former label, which owned the master recordings of her six albums, was sold to Scooter Braun, a talent manager whose clients had included Kanye West. Swift publicly spoke out against the deal, claiming that Borchetta had rejected her attempts to acquire the master tapes and that Braun had bullied her over the years. She subsequently tried to negotiate a deal with Braun, but he sold her back catalog to a private investment firm in 2020. Against this backdrop , Swift began rerecording her early material in an effort to gain control of it—the hope being that her remade songs and not the originals would be sought out for licensing deals—and in 2021 Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) appeared. They were remakes of earlier albums with several previously unreleased tracks. In July 2023 Swift released Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , followed by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October that same year.

In 2019 Swift released her seventh album, Lover , which she described as “a love letter to love itself.” That year she also appeared in the musical Cats , a film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber ’s hugely successful stage production. Miss Americana (2020) is a documentary about her life and career. With little advance notice, she released Folklore in 2020. A departure from her previous pop-inspired work, Swift’s eighth studio album drew praise for its introspection and restraint, and it won the Grammy for album of the year. The “sister record,” Evermore , appeared later in 2020.

Swift adopted a synth-pop sound for the candid Midnights (2022), which she described as “the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” The album received six Grammy nominations, scoring wins for album of the year and best pop vocal album.

March 2023 marked the start of Swift’s first concert tour since 2018, her sixth tour overall. When ticket sales for the Eras Tour opened on Ticketmaster in November 2022, many fans were disappointed by technical issues and waits that lasted up to multiple days. After two rounds of presales, general sales were canceled due to unprecedented demand. Swift expressed disappointment about the situation but did not mention Ticketmaster in her response.

In December 2023, Swift was honored as Time magazine ’s “Person of the Year.” Finalists also included Barbie , Vladimir Putin , and Sam Altman . The honor came shortly after the music streaming platform Spotify deemed her its most-played artist. According to a Bloomberg analysis, Swift is now a billionaire, with a net worth of around $1.1 billion. On a Forbes list of the most powerful women of 2023, Swift placed fifth. She has been dating American football player Travis Kelce since October 2023. In February 2024, while accepting one of her awards during the Grammy Awards telecast, Swift announced that she would be releasing her next studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , in April. The album was released as a double LP, the 15-track second part dubbed The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology . Guest artists include Post Malone on the single “Fortnight” and Florence Welch on the track “Florida!!!”

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Swift received seven awards, bringing her total count up to 30 and tying her with Beyoncé for solo artist with the most VMAs won during their career. She also left the awards with the most VMAs for Best Director (for “Fortnight”). She had previously been tied with three VMAs with directors David Fincher and Spike Jonze .

In September 2024, following a televised presidential debate between contenders vice president Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump , Swift posted a statement on Instagram in which she endorsed Harris. In her statement, she acknowledged the deepfakes created that had falsely portrayed her as a Trump supporter. She said that she was endorsing Harris because “she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

Taylor Swift's Stunning Net Worth Revealed

Taylor Swift is only 31 years old as of this writing, but she has been thrilling audiences with her unique voice, storytelling songs, and quirky personality since she was in her late teens. With global concert tours, hit album after hit album, and a host of savvy business decisions many young women in the music industry don't always make, Swift has become a wealthy woman indeed.

Swift was born Taylor Alison Swift on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania with music in her blood. Her grandmother had been an opera singer and Swift began singing publicly when she was a small child, according to Biography . A performance singing the national anthem at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game at the tender age of 11, and a new guitar that let her compose her own songs at age 12, set Swift on the path to music superstardom and an extremely lucrative career. Thankfully, she had a family to stand by her as she strived to make it big. Although Reading was their home, the family moved to Nashville, Tennessee so that Swift could become the country music star she planned to be.

Taylor Swift was only 17 years old when she landed her first record deal after her performance at a Nashville cafe caught the eye of Big Machine Records. Her first album went on to sell 5 million copies and a Christmas album soon followed, as noted by  Biography . While the holiday album didn't produce mega hits, her career was on its way, and she began to transform in front of our eyes .

Swift was well on her way to country music stardom, but it was an extremely awkward incident with rapper Kanye West that projected her name into the pop culture headlines. It was 2009, and Swift had just won the award for Best Video by a Female Artist for "You Belong With Me" from the album "Fearless" at the MTV Video Music Awards. Swift was up on stage accepting her award when West also ran on stage. He interrupted her, grabbed the mic, and said, "I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time" (via Vox ). The incident commenced a years-long feud between Swift and West, and while she did everything she could to "exclude [herself] from the narrative," her name and West's appeared side by side. All of the sudden, she wasn't just an upcoming country singer — she was a pop culture phenomenon.

After the controversial MTV night that still lives in the minds of American pop culture fans everywhere, Taylor Swift was a force to be reckoned with. She already had a hit album that crossed over from country music scene to pop fans with "Fearless," and she didn't stop there.

Two more albums followed titled "Red" and "Speak Now," leading Swift to be named as one of the richest artists under the age of 30 by Forbes Magazine (via Biography ). The awards and accolades kept pouring in, including Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, and Grammy Awards, including one in 2021 . Between 2009, when she won her first big award, and 2018, Swift's concerts raked in a whopping $943 million from concert tours alone, according to Celebrity Net Worth .

In 2020, amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Swift released "Folklore" and "Evermore." In 2021, she began going back to her roots, and debuted a re-recording of the album "Fearless" which she calls "Taylor's Version." Swift said she plans to release more re-recordings and hopes to own the original master recordings to her songs, as noted by  Entertainment Weekly . With all that success under her belt, Swift is worth a stunning $400 million at the time of publication (via Celebrity Net Worth).

Here's What Taylor Swift's Parents Really Did For A Living

Scott, Taylor, and Andrea Swift smiling

Taylor Swift is not only one of the most famous artists on the face of the earth; she's also one of the richest , with both Forbes and Bloomberg estimating her net worth to be approximately $1.1 billion. Yup, that's a billion with a capital B. And while she's no nepo baby who rode on her family's coattails, her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift , were apparently instrumental in helping her make it big within the fiercely competitive music industry.

From the get-go, Scott and Andrea primed Taylor for success, with the "Cruel Summer" singer telling Rolling Stone that they intentionally gave her a gender-neutral name on the assumption that it would help her progress in the professional world. "My mom thought it was cool that if you got a business card that said 'Taylor' you wouldn't know if it was a guy or a girl," she shared. "She wanted me to be a business person in a business world." And Taylor made it in business alright, except that her ambitions had always aligned with showbusiness. Scott and Andrea were ever-supportive, of course, moving their entire family to a city near Nashville so Taylor could be close to the heart of the music scene.

Fast forward to today, and Taylor is a bona fide superstar and a household name. It's all thanks partly to her parents' unwavering support and their expertise in marketing and finance, which have been crucial in helping Taylor attain the extraordinary success she enjoys now.

Andrea Swift's background in marketing helped Taylor make noise

Andrea Swift talking

Non-Swifties may not know that Taylor Swift wasn't discovered by some music executive. Nope — she and her mother, Andrea Swift, with brother Austin Swift  in tow, hustled hard so she could get her foot in the door. "My mom waited in the car with my little brother [in Nashville] while I knocked on doors up and down Music Row," Taylor told Entertainment Weekly  in 2008.

Andrea then leveraged her marketing background to help Taylor make a splash on the internet. Per People , she was formerly a marketing manager at an advertising agency, so she had the know-how to create buzz. Taylor's former manager, Rick Barker, dished that the singer already had a polished online presence way before she released a record. "The parents already had her MySpace and her website up and running," he recalled. "The mom and dad both have great marketing minds. I don't want to say fake it until you make it, but when you looked at her stuff, it was very professional."

There are also fans who speculated that Andrea was behind some of Taylor's career decisions early on, including the choice of "Tim McGraw" as her debut single . Per TikTok user @self_wife , it was likely Andrea's idea to name the song after a country music legend to draw attention to Taylor's brand. "The reason it was called Tim McGraw was so that every single time Taylor Swift — brand new artist on the country scene — was written about, Tim McGraw's name would be in the headline too," she said. "It's a very smart strategy that came from her mom."

Taylor initially wanted to work in finance because of Scott

Scott and Taylor Swift laughing

If Taylor Swift's love for music didn't trump everything else, you could probably expect her to run around Wall Street, just like her dad. Scott Swift was a stockbroker and founder of The Swift Group at Merrill Lynch. In a "YouTube Presents" interview , Taylor said that her father's dedication to his work in the finance sector was nothing short of inspiring.

"My dad is so passionate about what he does in the way that I'm passionate about music. This guy lives for being a stockbroker. That is his thing," Taylor said, noting that he had always encouraged her to save her money and invest in utilities. At one point, she even considered following in his footsteps, telling her friends that she wanted to be a financial advisor someday instead of typical kid aspirations like an astronaut or a ballerina. "I love my dad so much, because he's so gung-ho for his job, and I just saw how happy it made him, and I just thought, I can broke stocks," she quipped.

With Taylor now being a billionaire, she probably has her dad to thank for all those money lessons through the years. "[Dad is] just a big teddy bear who tells me everything I do is perfect." Taylor said of him, per E! News , but she added, "business-wise, he's brilliant."

Taylor Swift’s Power Era: Why The Billionaire Pop Star Is One Of The World’s Most Powerful Women

Taylor Swift’s Power Era: Why The Billionaire Pop Star Is One Of The World’s Most Powerful Women

With a record-breaking world tour, the ability to move economies and a $1.1 billion net worth, the 33-year-old entertainer ranks among the most influential women on the planet., by maggie mcgrath , forbes staff.

“Y ou’re making me feel phenomenal,” Taylor Swift likes to tell the sold-out stadium of fans at each stop on her Eras tour, right before she performs her feminist anthem “The Man.” Basking in the applause, the 33-year-old pop star then flexes her bicep and kisses the muscle, all of which whips the audience into a bigger frenzy. “You’re making me feel,” she says, as a smile spreads across her face, “ powerful .”

It’s a brilliant bit of theatrics, but Swiftie Nation understands that she is, and has always been, the true source of her own power — and 17 years into her remarkable career, Swift has never had more economic, cultural and political clout. All of which has caused her to soar up the ranks of Forbes ’ World’s Most Powerful Women , from No. 79 in 2022 to No. 5 this year.

Spotify's end-of-year "Wrapped" program revealed that Swift was the number-one artist, globally, on the platform.

Thanks to the record-breaking success of the Eras tour, Swift became a billionaire in October — making her the rare recording artist to achieve ten-figure status, joining the likes of Jay-Z (net worth: $2.5 billion) and Rihanna ($1.4 billion). A three-and-a-half-hour concert retrospective of her career, the Eras tour has grossed nearly $850 million over the course of 66 U.S. shows. Its first leg has added an estimated $190 million, after tax, to Swift’s coffers, boosting her net worth to $1.1 billion. The show will head to Europe and Asia next year.

The so-called Taylor Swift Effect casts a wide financial halo. Two nights of her tour in Denver added $140 million to Colorado’s gross domestic product, thanks to fans spending an average $1,300 apiece on hotels, restaurants and retailers. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve even cited Swift in its June Beige Book, noting that May — the month the Pennsylvania native performed at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly for three nights — marked the strongest month for city hotel revenue since before the pandemic. The U.S. Travel Association estimates that, collectively, the U.S. leg of the Eras tour added more than $5 billion to state economies.

“She’s like a big corporation, essentially, operating in many sectors,” says labor economist and University of Chicago professor Carolyn Sloane. “Her audience has skewed so young and so female for so long that people may have underestimated how big this thing could be, economically. I don’t think anybody doubts that today.”

That predominantly young, female audience also followed Swift to the movie box office this year. Here again, she flexed her entrepreneurial muscle, bypassing Hollywood studios to release The Eras Tour directly with AMC in October, despite the fact that she had no traditional marketing apparatus at her back. No matter. Swift herself is the ultimate marketing machine. Stacy Jones, founder of marketing agency Hollywood Branded, estimates that the singer has amassed more than $130 billion in “earned media” — a bit of a voodoo number that attempts to estimate the value of free publicity — over the last two years. Word of mouth and a few strategically timed appearances at Kansas City Chiefs football games were more than enough visibility to get fans in the seats. The movie notched a $93 million opening weekend and has grossed more than $250 million worldwide.

As with the Eras tour and the concert movie, much of Swift’s power stems from her direct control over her business. More impressive, and potentially far more lucrative, is the way in which she reclaimed ownership of her song catalog by rerecording albums that were part of a $300 million sale Swift alleges was done behind her back. She has so far rerecorded and released four of the six albums that were part of that sale. The most recent of these, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), set a Spotify record for most-streamed artist in a single day when it was released in late October.

The second half of Swift’s tour in 2024 will bring her total gross past $1 billion—an all-time record.

When you consider that Katy Perry and Justin Bieber sold the rights to their respective music catalogs in 2023 for more than $200 million, the value of Swift’s music will only make her wealthier in the eras to come.

As formidable as Swift is, she is not, however, the most powerful woman in the world. That title goes to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, whose policy and budgetary decisions affect Europe’s 450 million people. That number soon might soar past 500 million. In her annual state of the union speech in September, von der Leyen reaffirmed her intent to make Ukraine and countries in the Western Balkans official EU members.

No. 2 this year is Christine Lagarde, the European Central Bank president who is shaping Europe’s monetary policy at a moment of high inflation. Also coming in ahead of Swift is U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris (No. 3) and Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni (No. 4). Both are the first women to hold their respective positions, and Meloni is asserting her influence by proposing reforms to Italy’s constitution that would allow for the direct election of the prime minister.

“All those people with hard power are truly powerful women,” says Jones, the branding expert, “but they’re not going to be able to change the world in the way that Taylor Swift is.”

Taylor Swift: Family

Meet Taylor Swift’s Famous Feline Trio: The Cats That Rule Her Heart

By: Author Amanda OBrien

Taylor Swift may be one of the world’s biggest artists of all time, but she’s also a loving mother to three fluffy felines. Not your average pets, the Taylor Swift cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson — the Scottish Folds, and Benjamin Button — the Ragdoll Cat , are also wealthy superstars of their own.

While Taylor tours the globe on her Eras Tour, her kitties often wait patiently in her dressing rooms. If you’re wondering how many cats does Taylor Swift have, how much they’re worth, and what breeds they are, keep reading.

Here is everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s cats and a few extra fun facts.

Taylor Swift’s Cats’ Names

What are Taylor Swift’s cats’ names? The pop star’s cats are named Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button. If you’re into pop culture, you might recognize those names.

Her first two cats, Meredith and Olivia, were named after powerful female characters from two of Taylor’s favorite TV shows. Yup, Taylor Swift is just like us; she binge-watches series too. And then there’s the lovely Benji, the latest edition of her litter.

Meredith, Taylor Swift’s Cat

Taylor-Swift-Cats-Meredith-Grey

Meredith Grey is the lead character in the medical romantic drama “ Grey’s Anatomy .” Named after the iconic medical textbook, the show follows Meredith Grey through her journey as a surgeon and her many trials and tribulations along the way.

Besides the fact that Grey’s Anatomy is one of Taylor’s favorite shows, Meredith Grey is a very appropriate name for a grey cat . That’s possibly the biggest inspiration behind her name.

Meredith was adopted on Halloween in 2011, so it’s expected that she has her quirks. Meredith is a loveable Scottish Fold but’s not particularly fond of snuggles. You know how cats can be.

This pretty kitty is the first of Taylor’s feline children. She’s around 11 years old and has a pretty large fanbase of her own. Meredith was adopted just before Taylor Swift released her fourth album, Red, which she re-released in November 2021 as “Red (Taylor’s Version).”

Olivia Benson The Cat

Taylor-Swift-Cats-Olivia-Benson

And then came Olivia Benson. This spunky Scottish Fold packs a lot of charm into her little body, and it’s no surprise that she was named after one of TV’s most powerful female characters. Olivia, the cat, was named after Law and Order : Special Victims Unit’s Captain Olivia Benson, who at the time was a Sergeant.

While Taylor fondly calls her Sergeant Olivia, she’s also known as Dibbles around the house. According to Taylor, Olivia is sometimes too stately of a name for this little feline.

Most of the time, Olivia (Dibbles) is rather rambunctious and quite the goofball. She boasts a personality that better suits her nickname.

Olivia Benson was adopted in June 2014, just before the release of Taylor Swift’s 1989. This was the first of the singer’s albums to definitively switch her from a country singer to a pop artist.

Taylor Swift’s Cat Benjamin Button

Benjamin Button, also known as Benji, is the youngest of the cats Taylor Swift owns. Benji famously debuted in the music video for ME!, the lead single of Taylor’s seventh album, Lover. In fact, the set of that music video is where the Anti-Hero singer first fell in love with Benjamin Button as a kitten.

A behind-the-scenes clip reveals that Taylor jokingly asked if she could take Benji (then just a set prop) home with her, and the answer was yes. Now Benji is a frequent feature on Taylor Swift’s Instagram and is most revered for his stunning blue eyes .

From Taylor Swift on Facebook

Benji is a Ragdoll cat, which means although he’s the younger brother of Olivia and Meredith, he’s much larger, which could be why he’s named Benjamin Button. This gorgeous kitten is named after the lead character in the 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. In the film, Benjamin (Brad Pitt) has a rare aging ailment that makes him age backward.

Net Worth of Taylor Swift’s Cats

Meredith-and-Olivia-Taylor-Swifts-Cats

You read that correctly. Taylor’s cats have a net worth that most of us foolish humans could only dream of. Oh, to be born as a superstar’s cat.

While the net worth of Meredith and Benji are unclear, Olivia Benson’s net worth comes in at a whopping $97 million, according to 2023’s Rich Pet List . It’s estimated that her other kitties also cross the multi-million dollar line, which means that they’re worth over $100 million collectively.

In fact, Olivia Benson the cat is the world’s third-richest pet. She is on the list with Choupette – the famous feline companion of Karl Lagerfeld, Pontiac – Betty White’s Golden Retriever, Oprah Winfrey’s pups, and more.

What Are Taylor Swift’s Cats Breeds

Taylor-Swift-and-Meredith-Grey-Cat

Taylor Swift is the proud owner of two Scottish Fold cats and one Ragdoll cat. Both breeds are perfect for owners who want all the cuddles and plenty of personality. Although Meredith isn’t too fond of cuddles, she makes up for it with her oodles of personality.

About the Scottish Fold Breed

Scottish Folds are known for their intelligent and talkative natures but are most recognizable by their small folded ears and flat faces. This breed is found in an assortment of coat colors and patterns and is a great indoor cat .

Unfortunately, because of their small folded ears, owners need to regularly ear the wax from the outer ears of their Scottish Folds to avoid ear infections. Although they are irresistibly adorable, Scottish Folds are prone to bone and joint diseases, kidney disease, and heart disease, so caring for them can be tasking.

A Little Bit About Ragdoll Cats

Benjamin-Button-Kitten-Taylor-Swift

On the other hand, Ragdoll cats are pretty easy to care for if you don’t mind their size. Ragdolls are one of the best breeds of cats for families. They are loving, friendly, intelligent, and inquisitive by nature.

They also quite enjoy being lap cats, so you don’t usually have to worry about them wandering off. Ragdoll cats are most loved for their sparkling blue eyes and chirpiness. They also come in a few different coat colors and patterns.

Benjamin Button is a Bicolor Seal Point Ragdoll or a Seal Bicolor Ragdoll. This is identifiable by his panda-like bicolor face, dark ears, and tail, and of course, his dazzling blue eyes.

How Does Taylor Swift Travel With Her Cats?

Taylor-Swift-Cat-T-Shirt

You’re probably wondering how Taylor Swift can be a devoted cat mom when she spends her time jet-setting and performing to millions of fans around the world. The short answer is that she takes her cats everywhere. And I mean everywhere.

Meredith, Olivia, and Benji are often seen lounging around in Taylor’s cars, dressing rooms, and even her private jet. These kitties have racked up enough frequent flyer miles for everyone.

Taylor also sports a futuristic-looking cat carrier every now and then. It has a porthole-like window for kitties to gaze out of and plenty of breathing holes. Plus, you can wear it on your back like a backpack. Pretty neat, isn’t it?

Thinking of traveling with your feline friends? Check out these amazing travel litter boxes and cat carriers for car trips . Plus, here’s a handy guide to get you through a kitty-friendly road trip .

Does Taylor Swift Have Other Pets?

No, Taylor Swift’s cats get all of her love, affection, and fame. However, Taylor has also been spotted hanging out with her mother’s Great Dane, Kitty. Appropriate name, isn’t it?

While Taylor is a self-proclaimed cat person, she grew up with a couple of dogs. Taylor’s mother, Andrea Swift, had always wanted a “giant dog,” so Kitty was introduced to the Swift family a couple of years ago. Kitty can be seen trying to take a seat on Taylor Swift, outrunning her, and even flying on her private jet, as seen in her Netflix documentary “Miss Americana.”

Final Thoughts on Taylor Swift Cats

So, there you have it, everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s cat names and more. We now know all too well that Taylor is the world’s favorite cat lady, and her lovable furballs would happily defend her title.

From Olivia’s striking poses, Meredith’s feisty personality, and little Benji’s gorgeous blue eyes, you now have enough knowledge to impress the next Swiftie you come across.

Tito Jackson, Jackson 5 Singer and Guitarist, Dies at 70

Alongside Michael and his other brothers, he provided a soundtrack for a generation of young listeners in the 1970s.

A man in a fuchsia jacket holds a guitar in one hand and raises his other.

By Derrick Bryson Taylor

Tito Jackson, a founding member of the Jackson 5, who, along with his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, became a teen idol in the 1970s with a string of hits that included “ABC” and “I’ll Be There,” died on Sunday. He was 70.

A spokesman for his youngest sister, the singer Janet Jackson, said in a statement on Monday that Mr. Jackson died of a heart attack while driving to Oklahoma from New Mexico. The statement did not specify where he died. Mr. Jackson told The Tulsa World in June that he had recently moved to a ranch in Claremore, Okla., about 25 miles northeast of Tulsa.

The Jackson 5, one of the most popular musical acts of their era, were responsible for launching the solo career of Michael Jackson, who became known as the “King of Pop” and was one of the most emulated musicians of all time. Michael Jackson died in 2009 at 50.

The story of the Jackson 5, from their humble beginnings in Gary, Ind., to their various levels of success, has been well documented. It was the subject of a five-hour ABC mini-series in 1992, “The Jacksons: An American Dream.”

Toriano Adaryll Jackson was born on Oct. 15, 1953, in Gary to Joe and Katherine (Scruse) Jackson. Tito is largely remembered for being the guitarist in the group, a skill he picked up by watching his father. The elder Mr. Jackson, who managed the Jackson 5, died in 2018 .
